Enigma: @twinstaiye (Oga Moderator)
First I have a question: the FTA FAQ thread does not seem to be Sticky (or am I missing something?)
Second, I have an idea: we can use that thread to provide links to some specific useful information on the other thread and maybe some other general things:
Example 1: HOW TO INTERPRETE LYNGSAT DATA
Example 2: One post that can be modified as we get new information giving the satellites that can be received in Naija/West Africa like this one SATELLITES AND CHANNELS THAT CAN BE RECEIVED IN NIGERIA AND WEST AFRICA
That one can simply be copied and pasted and then be modified as things change.
Example 3: could be a post containing 2 or 3 links to the main posts that explain keys.
And many other things like that , I would be quite happy to be responsible for doing it; at least it would be a specific contribution to the FAQs. great idea enigma. |

enitan2002: @ all there's high tendency that stv1&2 will join its francophone compatriots on sirius very soon. also remember that canal international is also based in cameroun,so their nationals wont install 2 different dish sets for different directions. I've made a decision that when am back in lagos,i will have to sacrifice nss7 for sirius,and i wont also be suprise if canalsat already possess some tps on that bird. @enitan
what i meant is that RDV is a FTA channel, no one can sue them for spoiling business for them in nigeria, unlike Showtime that is a Pay TV provider. so you can not compare the two cases. as long as RDv has the right from showtime to retransmit. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by olofofo(m): 5:07pm On Nov 23, 2008 |
@enigma
the queston of wether on a law has been broke is the truly the real issue. one will really need to understand the broadcasting and copyright laws in nigeria to go any further on that. also one might want to ask the kind of license that was issued to Metro by the Nigerian Broadcastin commision, i can bet it does not include retransmitting programs whose right is owned by another company that was issued license by the same NBC.
@enitan
RDV could have conveniently argue that their channel is on satellite FTA for access to people in senegal, wether or not they are received elsewhere is not their business. as long as they are not officially selling access cards outside of senegal. |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by olofofo(m): 4:33pm On Nov 23, 2008 |
Enigma: Well, there are several issues and I won't deal with all of them here; if any of the parties to the case needs legal assistance, I will be prepared to provide a professional legal opinion in respect of the issues. I will just raise one or two things to think about.
1. Has Metro violated HiTV's rights? Remember that Metro had Showtime card/subscription?
2. Question 1 above involves the proper interpretation of several provisions of the Copyright Act.
3. Apart from HiTV's rights, has Metro broken a law in simply receiving Showtime pictures in Nigeria?
4. Is it illegal to use a Showtime card in Nigeria to watch Showtime?
5. On the other hand, is Metro breaking the law (or someone else's copyright) by retransmitting and reselling Showtime pictures? [Interestingly, what Metro did also happens in Spain - and, similarly some 'noise' was being made about the retransmitters recently; in some Scandinavian countries, if the signal is free then you can retransmit it]
I will just leave things like that, so that readers can see that the issues are not wholly straightforward I think where Metro has gone wrong is in retransmitting English premiership when HITV has exclusive right to do so in the nigerian market, No court in nigeria will be on their side. Also, Showtime does not have rights to broadcast the premiership to anywhere else apart from the middle east. so it goes without saying that the Metro guys just wanted to make a quick buck. also remember that the owner of HITV, Barrister Toyin Subair, is one o fthe pioneer Copyright Lawyers in Nigeria. Good luck with Metro's case. |

toxnaija: Adebosun, welcome to the thread.Please check all the past pages as they have all your enquiries answered.Some of these questions for the old members are like rewinding a ten-hour movie that is about ending.Hope you understand.
all, I called mide2008 yesterday to gist generally.He told me about the Echolink decoder that opens Showtime/Art and also the European Hotbird TPS/Premiere.It goes for N40000 including one year subscription.You refill the card at a very cheap rate of N8000 annually from Echolink directly.He is about to get it from his installer friend.Please send all enquiries to him and badaru oooo and not me. why is it that many members find it hard to call except they need very vital info?the only persons that impressed me are gofitec and folo28.they always call to give and collect info,they don't even do the midnite stuff.we are supposed to be hobbyists,spending money to get fun.I call members everyday for at least 10 minutes to gist about the fta world.please lets take this thread a notch higher. you can watch some great music/fashion stations like VHI,FASHION TV,WIK KID CARTOON,PUNJAB on paksat1 at 38* east C-BAND please confirm paksat1 is receivable on 1.8 motorized make i start dey hunt am? |

all my W3 channels are where they were with me here.
what king of decoder is ola using? my strong 4663x will not collect frequency outside of that zone, without reporting error.
what pitodenz mean is that:
the signal strength of RD on sirius is about 90% + on my 4663x and yes iof you change your position to W3 u can still watch RDV to at reduced signal level. same thing happens with W4 and ARABSAT 2B as well, meaning u wan watch hitv and ALjazeera on the same position. sort of like the middle way of the two positions. |

I believe the frequency range for KU on satellite is between 10700-12750, what you provided is out of that range. |

ADEBOSUN: @olofofo sori boderin u.does d dish av 2stand very high/wil a bungalow roof do.n where can i get som1 to do d instalatn not really high, just enough to get a clear view of the skyline without obstruction. a decked building or bungalow is always the best. but if you don't have that, something that gives you a clear view of est and west is ok. sorry i missed out a decoder. if you are going to use it for hubby, i'd recommend you get two decoders, the old STRONG 4652 which is good for tracking birds as well as the newer 4663x series with added features, but if you can not afford it, just buy the newer kind of decoder , it goes for 7500. |

Enigma: In Nigeria, it may not be illegal especially if the broadcast does not originate from Nigeria. The main ones that may be illegal in Nigeria to watch without subscription are those originating in Nigeria i.e. DSTV, MyTV, HiTV, Trend etc.
PS I will find the time to properly research Nigerian law on the subject and give definitive statement - some time soon, hopefully. Eni ti won ba mu ni Olehe who gets caught is the thief |
