@pitodenz, maddox

Welcome to the group. Pito, i don add you before now.

@maddox

if we will wait for the Electricity issue to be resolved before we start enjoying the good things of life then we don enter trouble. my main concern is mediocrity and nepotism, once round pegs are in right holes, out problems will start disappearing one by one.

@pito

how u want make we delete your post for nairaland. na twinstaiye Job be that now.

maddoxoj:
Hi all,
I can see things are moving swiftly. I surely miss tracking any bird these days. Anyone who's tracking any dishes in Abuja soon can call me (08098-maddox [623369]) to join in. I wan warm hand small!

Oh, about that Nigcomsat1 thing, I checked the tech info of the bird and confirmed that it is one of these "latest" satellites that run exclusively on solar power. They're usually equipped with dual-polar solar sensors (North and south solar sensors) for the "winged" satellites or the entire exterior is surrounded with solar sensors (for the round satellites). These designs are, of course, to maximise exposure to sunlight as the bird moves along. These kinds of birds are more efficient when they work but fail woefully when they, you know it, fail. if any of the solar sensors fails, it means the rechargeable batteries that power the entire bird would discharge without any source of recharge and that's the end. Barring that, these kinds of birds are usually less likely to explode on blast-off (which is very common) and they are lighter (no fuel and generator to carry) making it possible to carry more payload.

However, I'm still of the opinion that Nigeria should forget about this satellite business for now. It's not a simple market to operate in. It's an expensive business. You just don't own one satellite, you have to own own a fleet of them and have at least two birds in one slot. Do you think Intelsat 7/10 is one bird? or Eutelsat W4/SESAT, Nilesat, Hotbird, Eurobird, Intelsat 10-02, etc.? We should get serious. I'm appealing to all Nairaland FTA forum members (including our honorary citizens in Ghana, Ethiopia, etc) to join me in signing a protest letter demanding the government to retrieve the cost of that bird from the chinks and put it in a trust fund to be administered by members of this forum.

I'm dead serious. As soon as five people accent to this petition I'd post a url with the petition and space for people to append their signatures. Meanwhile, guys should start raising suggestions on how WE (Nairaland FTA forum members) would apply the cash when it's given to us. I'm waiting. kiss
I belive that the biggest black nation on the planet needs a satellite, whether or not the goverment should be buying and putting it in space is another issue.

but like everything else, the government finances it and then sell it to themselves as private citizens, we know the whole story and vicious cycle of corruption and greed.

imagine all the grand plan that was on the table for that bird before it came. majority of nigerians can benefit from it. Just image NIlesat moving their collection of transponders to that bird for coverage for sub saharan africa or what a couple of data channels for internet will do for the prices and quality of internet access.

@ all,
new discovery by ekonibaje and enitan2002, there's a new satellite at 45W, you can get it from 65cm and above dish size, the signal is concentrated, check that out, that might be the next stop of RDv, so be on thew watch, 3GBOSA for all of us, check out the link
http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/intel1r_eurnafr.html
http://www.lyngsat.com/intel1r.html

the name is intelsat 1R
what you are talking about is the satellite with globecast Africa feed on it. i don;t think that is a new satellite, besides RDV is not moving to another satellite, they are just encrypted for a reason.

regarding the group your email address should guarantee you entry. also check your email for the invite i sent.

@ bodejohn,
try and check your mail by tomorrow morning, you must have seen a message from me by then.

@ olofofo,
is badaru the one doing the installation or your humble self (u fit do am sef?). Well I wish you goodluck, and make sure your appointment with me on the 6th decemebr still stand. Badaru also said if I call on him (which i've had done already), he's willing also to be part of the inspection team on that day. So how do you want the movement plan to be? I hope this is not too early oooo, because as for me i love planning far ahead, even if i don't know what tomorro will be.
Expecting your reply, when did you put up that your motorised 1.8m dish? You have been evading that question.
am doing the installation myself.

the motoried should be about 6 months old , I think.

Guys I do not know about the RDV data posted on this forum, 12557V,3332.But I just checked their site and I found this

Satellite: SIRUS 4
Position: 5 degrees
Frequence: 12556MHZ
Symbole rate:3333
F.E.C:   2/3
Polarite: Verticale
please let the forum experts  explain if this could be the reason for the off air of RDV
it's the same thing just off by 1 because it was from a blind scan. they are not off air, but are scrambled.

Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Official Thread of Free To Air Satellite TV (Part 2) by olofofo(m): 2:34pm On Nov 26, 2008
@enitan

I really do not share the concern of you guys regarding the free flow of information and how it might affect pay TV operators leaning on RDV to scrammble their operations. I really do not think it works that way.

Group Excaf Telecom, the owner of RDV is  major Pay TV operator in Senegal and they know what they are doing. if they chose to encrypt  RDV, that will be their perogative and it will mean that all their viewers even in Senagal will be scrambled.  people should stop giving HITV and DSTV too much props. No be the same DSTV wey dey give their programs free on Tanzania and Kenya?

let's just hope for the best and pray that this scrambling is temporary. I believe that come Saturday, they will be back on Air and if not Life goes on.

Enitan and others, do not let this Affect the way information flows on this channels or else this will no longer be an interesting place for hobbyist like us.

PS: Am installing Nilesat this weekend with 2.4m PAN
