lawani:
But they have nothing in common historically that make them associated with Ijesa history as is the case with Akure. The Deji of Akure title is Ijesa in origin and the dialects are also more or less the same. For instance, Efon Alaaye speak the same exact dialect with Ijesa but are not historically associated with the Ijesa apart from being neighbors. However the Efon are not more associated with the rest of Ekiti state than they are to the Ijesa. Ekiti is not one unit.
You are muddling Yoruba history up!

Efon Alaaye was created by Obalufon Alayemore when he abdicated the throne for Oranmiyan, when the latter came back from sojourning to reign as Ooni . Although Obalufon Alaayemore returned back to reign for second time after Oranmiyan.

Obalufon Alaayemore relocated to Efon Alaaye with supporters and founded the town. So, do not align Ijesha with Efon Alaaye's historical setup history.

Finally,I agree with you that Ekiti for sure are of different ancestry but are related whole heartedly. Most alarming is the Ora ife and Obatala descendants more in Ekiti than what people not know.
Culture › Re: Should Nigeria Ban Islam Like Angola And Slovakia? Muslims are killing people. by Olu317(m):
superclosestool:
As far as I know, Islam has brought an effective administrative system to northern Nigeria. And the culture itself is constantly changing, and people don't speak exactly the same language as their respective ancient ancestors. Doesn't it strike you as odd that you can embrace Christianity, which the Europeans imposed on Nigeria, but see Islam, which came with the merchants, as your enemy? The Abrahamic religions are not that different from each other, Christianity and Islam have a lot in common, you think they are totally different because of the one-sided propaganda in the media, the chaos in the Muslim countries today is a legacy of the colonial era, the country has no effective governance system, poverty and chaos afflict everyone, the problem is not Islam itself, Saudi Arabia and Iran, which were never colonised, or countries like Syria and Egypt, which have established effective systems of governance after the colonial era, are much better off. Unless foreigners step in, as in Syria, it is hard to get into chaos. Mexico, where Catholicism is widespread, is Mired in drug trafficking and warlords. But that has nothing to do with Catholicism, and everything to do with Mexican officials' incompetence. Nigeria is a multicultural country. People need to respect each other, not discriminate against each other. This is the premise of national stability. The other thing to disappoint you is that there is no ill will against Muslims in China and Myanmar. China and Myanmar are not racist countries and there is no religious discrimination. Mosques can be found all over China and Myanmar. They are in harmony with Buddhist temples, Taoist temples and even Christian churches. Burma's warlords sometimes fight each other, and your claim to wipe out Muslims is just a one-sided media exaggeration of warlord warfare. China has two autonomous regions where the majority of the population believes in Islam, the Uyghur people of Xinjiang and the Hui people of Ningxia. Can you guess another name for Islam in China? that is Hui.
So much read awrong books do lead to over assumption over comparing Islam with her oppressive dictates to Christianity which cohabits with indigenous religious beliefs system.

Permit me clarify that Crusaders were rogues who killed original christians missionaries and hijacked the religion which became modified and readjusted several times even until different sects crept up to begun anew era in Christianity

Apart from the fiat to fused Christianity and Islam as Abrahamic religion remains the biggest fraud of this century. Christianity and Islam differs in tenets..

Islamists singlehandedly killed thousands of Christians and chased ten of thousads away in Saudi Arabia and other Arabia peninsula.

Infact , there are Christian Arabic inscriptions that were found in Saudi Arabia that predated Islam. The question is, Why killed Christians in ancient Arabia if indeed they share same religious belief system with Islam ?

This is what you need to consider so that you wont you need to think for people because Islam is highly intolerant in many places of world especially in places where she is finding it hard to have absolute control of the state.

Hence,Nigeria cannot be what you may imagined it to be in the future since, there are diverse school of thought, desired educational system which there are more than two ideologies : Islamic , Western and indigenous school of thought respectively.

The only solution is for each ethnic group within same proximity developed according to the desired system with other available system to be provided while a Confederacy system allow such state to control what she has to pay taxes to Sovereignity, follow constitution law covering all units for all to thrive at each given pace.

Pls Stop this argument. I'll contribute my little as an Akure prince. For the records, Owa of Ijesha doesn't give Akure any crown, Akure crown was brought from Ile-Ife, it was just the name, 'Deji' that was adopted as the title.
Although right now, Akure is Akure, but the fact is we're more of Ekiti than any Yoruba subgroup. Akure royal house is related maternally to Ijesha rulling house, and nothing more.

PlatinumTimesng:
Babajide Oba First-class traditional leader Lawrence Oluwole, the Oluoke of Oke-Igbo in the Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been removed from office.

The Kugbaigbe Ruling House, which would have produced the king to occupy the then-vacant stool of the town, was acknowledged by a State High Court sitting in Ondo city as not being a member, therefore invalidating the appointment of the monarch.

The appointment of the king by the state government had been contested in court by two princes from the Aare Kugbaigbe Ruling House, Rufus Adekanye and Temitope Adeoye, who served as Head and Secretary of the House, respectively. The town's Kingmakers also joined the lawsuit.

The plaintiffs revealed that the defendant was not a member of the Aare Kugbaigbe Ruling House, which in turn was to propose a candidate to the throne because the stool is still vacant, in the lawsuit filed by their attorney Olusola Ebiseni.

Oluwole was not a part of the ruling house that would eventually produce the monarch, as Justice Ademola Enikuemehin acknowledged in his decision.

In light of this, Enikuemehin issued an order stating that "the Olu-Oke of Oke-Igbo Chieftaincy in the Ile-Oluji/Oke-Igbo Local Government Area of Ondo State is subject to the Declaration in Part two of Justice Adeloye Judicial Commission Of Inquiry On Chieftaincy Matters and the Chiefs Law CAP 27 Volume 1 Laws of Ondo State 2006."

He stated further that "Under the Olu-Oke of Oke-Igbo Declaration contained in Part Two of Justice Adeloye Judicial Commission Of Inquiry On Chieftaincy Matters, eligibility to the throne is restricted to the descendants of (1) Odo Eleyowo (2) Aare Kugbaigbe (3) Kuole Oloje (4) Aderin Ologbenla (5) Ajibike Adedimeji of the male linage who is thus constituted as the five Ruling Houses of the Chieftaincy.

Only members of the aforementioned Aare Kugbaigbe Ruling House of the male linage are qualified to be proposed as the candidate(s) and be made an Oba at the turn of the Ruling House, according to and by virtue of the Oke-Igbo Declaration contained in Part Two of Justice Adeloye Judicial Commission Of Inquiry On Chieftaincy Matters.

It is the turn of the Are Kugbaigbe Ruling House to offer candidate(s) to occupy the currently vacant stool of the Olu-Oke of Oke-Igbo Chieftaincy, according to the Olu-Oke of Oke-Igbo Declaration contained in Part Two of Justice Adeloye Judicial Commission Of Inquiry On Chieftaincy Matters.

"The fifth defendant (Oba Oluwole), not being a descendant of the Aare Kugbaigbe, is not a member of the Aare Kugbaigbe Ruling House and, therefore, is not qualified under the declaration to be proposed as a candidate for the vacant stool of or be made the Olu-Oke of Oke-Igbo."

Additionally, the court issued an injunction prohibiting "the fifth defendant from further parading himself or permitting himself to be paraded as or accorded the rights and privileges pertaining to the person, title, and office of the Olu-Oke of Oke-Igbo."

In it, the defendants were forbidden from "jointly and severally parading as or further according to the fifth defendant the recognition, rights and privileges, of the Olu-Oke of Oke-Igbo."

Egyptians demand an end to the falsification of Queen Cleopatra's history: Almost 60k Sign the Petition to Stop Netflix's new Documentary
Netflix’s new series “Queen Cleopatra,” produced by Jada Pinkett Smith, wife of Will Smith, a petition to cancel the show has gained significant traction online. Over 60,000 people have already signed the petition, which calls for the cancellation of the show due to concerns surrounding historical inaccuracies and cultural appropriation.
Critics argue that the series, which chronicles the life of the last pharaoh of ancient Egypt, Cleopatra VII, is riddled with historical inaccuracies that perpetuate misconceptions about the real origin of the Queen. The contentious series has spurred heated discussions on social media about historical revisionism, racism, supremacism, and ethnicity. Additionally, concerns have been raised about the casting of the main character, with some arguing that the actress chosen to play Cleopatra is not representative of the historical figure’s ethnicity.

Maha Shehata and Aikk Yasser organized the petition to halt the upcoming documentary because it was “falsifying history.” The creators of the petition claim that Egyptians who believed that Egyptian history was being misrepresented were responsible for its creation.
A group’s desire to claim Egypt’s history and deprive the true Egyptians of it is being pushed via the pseudoscience known as “afrocentrism.” They are still trying to fabricate history using fraudulent articles and no supporting proof, according to the petition’s opening statement.
Controversy and Representation: The Debate Over Queen Cleopatra’s Portrayal

The debate surrounding the portrayal of Queen Cleopatra in Netflix’s new series has sparked significant discussion on social media platforms. Central to the debate is the question of whether Cleopatra should be portrayed as a black queen or if another representation is more historically accurate.
Cleopatra VII, the last pharaoh of ancient Egypt, was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, which descended from Ptolemy I, a Macedonian Greek general who served under Alexander the Great. As a result, some argue that Cleopatra’s ancestry was primarily Greek, and thus, she should not be portrayed as a black queen.
Others, however, assert that presenting Cleopatra as a black queen could contribute to a more inclusive and diverse representation of historical figures in film and television.
The debate on social media has led to a wide range of opinions, with some users advocating for more historically accurate portrayals and others stressing the importance of diverse representation in media. As with any historical figure, it can be challenging to determine the exact appearance of Cleopatra, which leaves room for interpretation and artistic license. The conversation surrounding the representation of Queen Cleopatra highlights the complexities of portraying historical figures in modern media and raises questions about the responsibilities of filmmakers and producers when depicting history.

These people keeps breaking noses of Busts and kept lying about the era of Black people in Egypt. No wonder, the world is gradually seeing the evidence in black and white about the might of the Ancient Egyptians.

Popo and Gun are two separate entities but merged together in this write up.

Popo was founded by Oduduwa descendants and some Gun are also Yorubas as a result of naturalisation, marriage, assimilation into Yoruba culture and some are not.

Influence of Oloyo, was through how Gun, came through Ajase, so also Popo descendants etc to Badagry, where Awori also had settlement.

Apa is the oldest settlement in Badagry settlement and owns the largest land. Infact, she owns where the Black Gold is found in Badagry environment.

Even if we were to calculate from your agreed date of Benin domination, late 1400s to 1897 is still over 400 years, is this what you called short lived. This was the same period Rome colonised Britain.

Benin didn't fall or was defeated by any of her neighbours. Benin only fell to Britain in 1897. All problems Benin had were internal, princes fighting themselves.

1. By early 1500s Benin defeated Ida

2. Between 1550 to 1600s Benin was in charge of Lagos.

3. By 1818 Benin supplied guns to yoruba people to fight themselves in Kiriji war.

4. By 1824, the Alaafin of Oyo told the British that he has sent for help from the Oba of Benin to send troops to help the Alaafin defeat his yoruba neighbours.

5. In 1897 Benin fell to the British.
Lol.

How on earth do shortlived meant to you ? And so, it is my calculations and not European account of voyage and interaction between Bini and Portugal ? Educate yourself

Anyway, whatever you think, it is glorifying to Bini kingdom, you can posit on them but be honest with your information as I have done. So,Bini's gloryi is based on gun and Canon that were acquired from Portugal

So what was Britain, USA and other earlier kingdoms glories based on? Boxing, karate and kung-fu grin grin grin

Joke aside, Benin was already a dominant force before the arrival of Europeans, guns and Canon. The Europeans met a highly organised society in Benin when they first arrived.

The law and order they met on ground was not due to guns and Canon.

Benin domination of the entire area before the arrival of the Portuguese was not due to guns and Canon.
There was no Bini domination of entire area. Please, state how such came to be grin .

Information to this position of yours does not exist, so, stop falsehood. In as much as Idah was a problem to Bini kingdom in late 1400s and 1500s, then it was obvious the acquired ammunitions gave more output to Bini kingdom's glory. No, doubt about it but short lived.

At a time in history, the relationship between Portugal and Bini capsized which led to dwindling fortune of Oba Bini, his chiefs as well as Ohen Olokun, Ekaladerhan descendant, the chief priest of Olokun deity, whom was always given Ekpan, annually for Olokun festival grin

I will advise you to go and read the works of Samuel Johnson the history of yoruba for more insight, smj personally witnessed the yoruba Civil War and how benins supplied weapons to the yorubas to kill themselves so try not to overbloat yourself

There was nothing like ogiso it has always been oba, ogiso were mythical discussions that were influenced by portoguese missionaries who asked the benins in the past if they also believed on sky king too like Jesus
You actually need good recommended eye glasses grin . After the failure by Ruy De Sequeira, who was the first Portuguese to arrived at Gwato in 1472. From the second arrival of the Portuguese John Alfonso D'Aveiro who made contact with Oba Ozolua 1486, there were trading which brought exposure to Biniland. But, more around early 1500s AD that Oba Esigie became desirous for defense and laterexpansionism, then acquisition of gun and other ammunitions surfaced which gave her advantage over communities to the West and East.

This ammunition was what were used to chase away Idah warriors who were at the
entrance to Biniland. So,Bini's gloryi is based on gun and Canon that were acquired from Portugal cheesy

Kindly educate yourself to understand history of gun in west Africa, using interaction between Bini and Portugal trade as a case study. Perhaps , you will understand better.

Infact, decline came to be on the part of Bini because it became suspicious when the Portuguese government tactically withdrew such supply due to the fact that,"Christianity" that was introduced by them was not expanding.

Yet arms were what the Bini king and officials were after to acquire, which is obviously meant for subjugation and abuse of power. This was the the end of it all.

You see,all along the Bini warriors were not extraordinary warriors but hoped on gun supply and Canon got from Portugal. But at the end, when Bini kingdom ran out of suppply from Portugal, the kingdom retuned back to her normal status.

Ogiso are myth, olu you nor dey hear word you just want that shrine keeper called ooni to be falsely overlord of benin monarch lol... Yorubas and history stealing pity your ancestors were slaves to ours

The Benin country was one of the African kingdom most visited by the europeans, And so many European ethnographers visited the kingdom to collect cultural information of the country benin, the most of european documentation written about benin kingdom are still yet to be explored , and even translated to English, sometimes the benin soldiers were hired by the europeans with the consent of the oba of benin, when the europeans needed to explore the hinterland of foreign old Nigerian territories

The ogisos (sky kings)
To find the truth behind ogiso dynasty if they truly existed we need to first interpret the Benin traditional worship believe system

The Benin traditional belief system is based on pure animism were they believe everyone that dies their spirit wonders around on earth to protect their loved ones... And an alter would be set for the deceased as a means to communicate to the dead spirit, the benins traditional system also believed on powerful monarchs the king of sea(olokun) and the king of the earth ( oba of benin) overtime the oba of benin became more powerful than than olokun... And had control over it
The benins believed on life on earth after death and and associated no spirituality to the sky, the benins believe in the gods of the wind, sun who comes together to bring rain they also believed these God's were on earth and not in the heavens

The question now is how did the ogiso narrative come into being ... If benins never associated relevance to heaven

Overtime the european Christian influence warranted some benins who were questioned by European ethnographers to give answers to these ethnographers that believe would suite them and not necessarily reality ...
The ogiso narrative was born out of european Christianity narrative of a sky king the benins were aware of this Christian narrative of Jesus christ through European missionaries and they gave answers to what they felt would be appealing.... And when the europeans enquired further on the existence of the ogiso the benins told the europeans that the ogiso ruled in the time of the earth had no sun or moon

Oba esigie who welcomed Christianity into benin after the Benin-idah war brought the osa(God) the sky king narrative who oversees everyone on earth.... From his time you will begin to hear edo names with the acronym osa

If ogiso were truly myth like what we have seeing then the title oba have always indigenous

The act making ogiso narrative real in benin history was an act to make the kingdom look older...
Let me pretend that Ogiso is a myth, but does Igodomigodo turned Bini not recognise Ekaladerhan as Ogiso Owodo's son ?

If you like or not,it doesnt change the face of fact. So,deal with it. If Ooni was a slave, how come Oba Bini still pay homage to the oldest crown in Yorubaland of ileife under the information of my ancestor's throne ?

Importantly Oba Esigie never wanted Christianity in Bini land if you do not know. Rather, the Portugese ambassador in the person of John Alfonso D'AVeiro advice Oba Esigie to accept Christianity which would lead to access to Gun,Cannon of that era and eventually it materialised which led to the rise and fall of Bini Kingdom.

And from this, the might of Bini in 1500s cheesy grin. So, do not paint it as if Oba Bini singlehandedly adore the Portuguese form of Christianity or any christian faith. This is far from the truth. Hence, wealth and Weapon was what Oba chased after during that era.

You see, I can even give information on certain area where such canon were used in Yorubaland before and thereafter the Edo warriors who were seen as invicible were mortal and chased away grin

Ogiso was what they were using as a title and yes, when a new dynasty sprung up, the new system takes over which easily led to the change of name and title bearing.

The ile ibinu as exonym is quite right which also need consideration for it to be well established in the influence on the monarchial system, language, Art metal working etc .

So it will be absurdity to condemn the new identity from eleventh century or thereabout and pushed backwards to old order. Afterall there are account to that effect that there were many Yoruba migrant into Bini via Oranmiyan and before him.

I indeed have respect for someone as you who expose truth as it is because authentic Historical account is always against emotion,no matter who is at the receiving end.

Permit me to advise here that ,there is no need to lay curse on social media on self or born and unborn children because of information that has to do with ancestry.

Ekun is tiger please 🐅
Ẹkun is tiger.
This name actually existed in some places where Yorubas had once lived.

In all kingdoms in Yoruba land, the cat family identified with kings is Tiger which shows the might of a king. Hence, panegyric such as ọma ẹkun/ọmọ ẹkun .......

Interestingly, Tiger is stronger than Lion in all ramification, which is contrary to the perspective the Western world hold as pointing to Lion as the strongest Cat ,even identified as the strongest animal at a point in time.

Today, Lion is being called the bravest animal when fact has emerged that such view of being the strongest animal in the jungle is seemingly far away from authentic information.

So,the Tiger actually existed time immemorial in Yoruba worldview ,which is the reason name was given to it. There are many things yet undiscovered about Yoruba ethnic history.

Finally, are you aware cat (the smallest in the family )is associated with longevity -longlife ? Elédùmárè will deliver Yoruba people from hatred toward their tradition.

This is akin to what I have been saying ,but someone accused be of trying to discredit Yoruba, the thing is that many minority tribes history as falsely been made to be subsumed by major tribes, like the case of ogori and magongo which as been subsumed to a Yoruba subgroup which might even be wrong.

Many tribes close to the Yoruba like the edos and even smaller tribes like ogori, egun etc have a forced ile-ife origin link.

There needs to be a broader perspective to the history of minority groups .The ile-ife myth needs proper research it's to one sided.

The Yoruba have tried to link almost every tribe under an ile-ife origin, further consideration as to be made to determine the veracity of these claims
Well, I do know that the oldest identified ancestor in Yoruba land of ileife is Ora ife. This personality had many descendants across Yoruba land. Matrilineal linked to present Ooni dynasty.

It is a fact that,Ileife have record of immigrants to and emigrants from ileife. So, it will always be plausible for the said people who were of Yoruba stock who emigrated to other land to had influence and pronounced their own history more which is embedded in their own form of civilization.

Imperatively, wherever Yoruba descendants are, there is a challenge on identity crisis with other ethnic subgroups which make such place, a bit complex with ancestral link to Ileife, especially with such personality as Odua, who is a father figure who represent his own ancestors, relatives and descendants even others groups who are not originally of the same stocks.

Therefore, if getting certain fact accurate, then, it will not be extremely wrong to hear Ogori Magogo as having some stocks among them as people of Ileife and from other places aswell. Tapa, Baruba, Edoid groups, etc cannot be excluded from many Yoruba establishment.

Of a note , Yoruba language with its civilization and embodiment of way of life, is impactful , wherever it is found. For instance, I know many groups in Cuba who are modern day mulattoes and claim, ancestral link to Yoruba, even adherents to ifaodu tradition. This can be said to exist in other South and North America setup.

So, it will be flawful to discredit other people who had made every established system thrive in one way or the other in Yoruba land.

And if such groups of people had became part of the family lineage associated with Yoruba, then it is logical to accept who ever claims to be Yoruboid stock. This has nothing to do with forceful claimants of other people's heritage.

scholes0 I like the way you place words, but I would want you to have an understanding of some of these issues, what we find is that to obtain legitimacy from the People, the yoruboid set of Binis seem to want to "yorubanize" Bini history both local and "foreign", whatever we do we should understand that Bini is not really one sect and everyone has the right to tell their history regardless of who is more famous and prominent and we also have a right to accept what we should accept, we have seven main kings in Benin which are (1)Oba of Benin
(2.)Ogie-amien of Utantan
(3)Iyase of Udo
(4) Enogie of Ugo
5 Okaevbo of Urhonigbe
6 Enogie of Egor
7. Elawure of Usen
These stools

it is only perhaps in the mouth of yoruba affiliated kings and people that you will hear of Ogiso coming from Ife, which are the Oba of Benin and Olu-awure of Usen and other yoruba affiliated people, we had moonlight tales in Benin then growing up when Benin was not this urban, it should still be there in the villages, not for once did I hear of any Ogiso coming from Ife, I only read it for the first time on nairaland .

The Oba and the Usen people are not qualified to tell the history of the Ogisos, they don't have the locus-standi to tell it. The Ogisos and her history predates their existence in Benin. The history of the Ogisos is entirely a local business. a business of the aborigines
I doubt Ogiso coming from ileife. Most account written to glorify the link between ileife and Ogiso is seemingly fabicated.

I have never seen Ora descendants overall King Obaluru of Ora ife dynasty mentioning Ogiso as a descendant of Ora ife

1.The name Ogiso is meaningless in Yoruba language, unless proven right to have meaning

2. I know not of a house in historical research in Ileife who claim ancestor of Ogiso.

3.The fusion of Bini history is due to the assertion of some groups wanting to suppress other people's history, which is damning to our history as a whole.

History of Otan-Ile
Otan –ile is the fourth largest town in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State. At about 13th Century Prince Akindugba, one of the sons of Oduduwa left Ile-ife as other Princes did. He headed for Umayinyin (New Ijare) in Ondo State where he sojourned for a period. This was the third installation of Oodua of his Princes when each founded a kingdom outside ile-ife (See Ife Genesis of Yoruba Race by Dr. Fabumi p.30) his brother, OIwa Ajibogun had settled earlier before him at Ibokun establishing Ijesa Kingdom. Ajibogun realizing the war prowess of his brother Akindugba, did not want him too far away from him.
On arrival of Otan-Ile. He Akindugba saw a footpath which he traced to Oloyo Stream on crossing to the side, he sawan old man Eleesu who wanted him to settle very near Him. Here he had been referred to as Baba Otan. He settled his two wives Otinhunmi and Olamoke and his children with Ajila. Ajila his host later realized Akiondugba’s royalty. When at night his velveteen throne sheet was spread, his beaded crown and staff (Opa Afole) were displayed. Ajila thereby shouted “Kabiyesi” as royal greetins. Ita Ajila is the seat of Oodoru (head of all masquerades) who normally gave the highest judgment especially capital punishment before colonial days and English laws became operative in Nigeria. The nes soon spread through the whole area and among all small settlement thereabout and they all recognized him Olotan as their Oba. Arigbolori’s house at Ajila is still accorded the honour of that first recognition and homage is still paid today whenever a new Olotan is installed.
There are many important Senior Chiefs in the Town like Obaala, Odofin Asao, Saloro, Risawe, Osunta, ejemu, Osolo, Lejoka, Saba, and a host of others. Among the women chief s also are Yeyesemure, Yeyerisa, Yeyedofin, Yeye Jumo and a host of others. Each came from various other towns in Yoruba land to settle with Olotan. Olotan of Otan –ile was father to Owa Otan Aiyegbaju formerly known as Otan Koto. Prince Olamodi who founded Otan – Aiyegbaju was the son of Oba Olotan Adegbola. Olotan of Otan-ile was also the father of Aragbiji, Oogbo his son was the First Aragbiji. There are Identical Chiefs, Streets and House – hold at Otan Aiyegbaju with those at Otan-ile, Otan Aiyegbaju being an offshoot of Otan ile.
Otan –Ile took active part in Kiriji war and famous Warrior like Fakuyigbe, Lukotun, Ologun Odo, Oguntuyi and Agbeusi, Aipa Oge Era Lese were all from Otan – ile. The first Aafin (Palace) was at lmotin where Otinhunmi had her grave. The Latest and Present Aafin (Palace ) is now at the market place where we are celebrating on today. Places, of historical interest in the town include Ile Arigbolori, Olujoda, Ajila, Ile Odofin Ogboni, which are involved in the affairs of Olotan installation. Also places like Olua. Imotin (where and unfaithful new wife is dealth with traditionally. Igbo Igbale and Ile Orisa Inigbo. The traditional drums in town are Bata-Koto Gbedu (Royal Drum) I Agbe, Ipesi (Historical) drum that ushered in the first Olotan, Apiiri, Ibembe, Ugbin, Ilu Aje, Kenge.
The listed drums are used when most of the following festivals are observed.

Brief History of Olotan of Otan-Ile
Olotan-Ile
Olotan of Ota-Ile in Obokun Local Government of Osun State is a direct Prince of Oduduwa – Olofin Adimula of Ile-Ife.
Olotan of Otan-Ile was crowned at the same time with seventeen others – among them were Oloyo of Oyo (Alaafin) Awujale of Ijebu, Olowu of Owu – Abeokuta, Deji of Akure, Elekole of Ikole, Olowo of Owo, Owa Obokun among others.

Akenzua, Akindugba (1st Olotan) and Ajibogun, Owa of Ilesa (then) were all brothers of same stock; Akindugba being a senior brother to Ajibogun.

Olotan Akindugba, a notable warrior, gave Loobaro now Loro of Ilesa to Owa his junior brother to help Owa in case of wars as an adviser. As a warrior, he had no rival, no conqueror throughtout Yoruba land.
Olotan is a crown beaded Oba directly from Ile Ife. He brought with him while leaving Ile-Ife Opa Afole. His war emblem for conquest, beaded crown, beaded staff and beaded shoes, all royal apparels and are still preserved till date.
Olotan of Otan-Ile allowed one of his princes to settle at Otan-Koto now known as Otan Aiyegbaju. This second Otan is an offshoot of Otan-Ile (Otan Odo-Ile) and she has identical history, customs, rites, ceremonies, taboos, streets and chieftaincy titles with Otan-Ile till today. Interaction, funerals all still held the two towns closely.
Olotan has a street in Benin-City till date to commemorate his royal sojourn briefly at Benin to help jointly with Owa Ajibogun to solve a royal problem as advised by Ifa oracle centuries ago.
Akindugba was immortalized at Igbo Oluwa a place for annual celebration by Omo Owas and the whole town, known as “Oroke festival”. The cave is preserved from fire incident, wanton cultivation and indiscriminate hunting for posterity. Children born if a fire accident should occur have ‘burn marks’ at various parts of their bodies.
All indigenes of Otan-Ile at home and abroad never eat or taste dog meat as forbidden by Olotan. This emanated from an incident of fire occurrence in the palace in the absence of all occupants and the watch dog carried the prince on his royal cloth (ite omode) to a nearby clinghill to save his life.
Olotan has first class chiefs – Iwarafa or Kingmakers, second class and third class chiefs as well as lower ranks called ‘Isogan, Jagunna and ‘Emeses’ who do not wear beads cultivated by Olotan. There are such grades and wearing of beads among women chiefs as well.
His descendants established both Otan Aiyegbaju and Iragbiji who both share similar customs and cultures with Otan-Ile.
Olotan as a beaded crown Oba has Ogbonis, Elegbes and Looguns under him for administrative purposes in the ancient town.
Olotan has a camp at Imesi-Ile during Yoruba inter-tribal wars. Lukotun and other warriors of note were immediate aides of Ogedengbe during Ekiti/Ijesa Parapo war against Oyos.
It is only recently, 19th Century precisely under British Rule that Otan-Ile came under the same District Officer with other Obas in Ijesaland. He was not under any Oba in the whole of Ijesaland originally and the Olotan’s shrine exists till today within the confines of the Ooni’s palace at Ile-Ife.
The present Olotan, His Royal majesty Oba Samuel Sunday Olatokun Fagberade (JP) is the 29th Olotan of Otan-Ile as enunciated by Dr.Fabunmi in Ile-Ife – Genesis of the Yorubas”

This history is not plausible. There is no where oduduwa existed in 13th century in ileife account.

It is better many of these kings go to ileife to meet their ancestral kings who are their representative overlords kings of their households to clarify on their family back ground and stop fabrication of story.

29th king of Otan ile cannot be a direct descent of oduduwa. Even Oranmiyan who reigned in late 1170AD and later Ooni of ife wasn't Oduduwa direct descent.

What Yoruba axis would Ohafia people have migrated from if that’s the case?

I feel like there’s a certain synergy between certain parts of Imo State and Ekiti/Oyo Yorubas in some very distant way (purple introverted intuition tells me so) but Ohafia people are more Cross River than anything else non-Igbo. I mean, look at you. You can’t even spell Ohafia properly.
My interviewee who is in his fifties said, his ancestors migrated from Yoruba land axis centuries ago. The said man is a traditionalist

And this man did not claim to be Yoruba before me even if he mentioned to me that his ancestral migration is from a place that is Idanre axis in Yoruba land. He is even married to an awori woman.

Though synergy willalways exist among people as long as there is mutual understanding . Besides, history from Yoruba people of Ekiti and Ilaje extraction mention the story of some renowned blacksmiths who lived in these Yoruba towns and beyond before colonial era and their identities were revealed in 1940s..
