Atiku Abubakar, the PDP Presidential candidate in the 2019 election has demanded an apology and N500m from Lauretta Onochie over an alleged defamation. Atiku through his lawyer Mike Ozekhome, threatened to begin a N2 billion suit against her if she refused to meet his demands, following her claims that he was placed on a watch list in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

However in a letter which countered the claim, Atiku Abubakar demanded an apology and N500m from Lauretta Onochie over the alleged defamation. He further asked her to publish a retraction in six national newspapers and one international daily, as well as on social media.

The letter reads: “Your odious publication is clearly also aimed at rubbishing our client’s image and reputation,” the letter read.“It has caused him national and international backlash and embarrassment and done incalculable damage to him. Your publication has also caused our client, in the eyes of reasonable members of the public, unspeakable odium, obloquy, hatred, ridicule and psychological trauma.“He has thereby been subjected to the shame and infamy of being viewed by members of the public as not only corrupt, but as a terrorist and sponsor of terrorism. Numerous telephone calls, emails, visits, letters and private social media chats by his family members, friends, political and business associates, and international statesmen and women in the last few days attest to the alarm and serious concerns generated by your false publication.”

Openly Nigerian gay Man Reveals why he turned down a wedding invite this weekend

Stonebwoy has denied claims of being arrested and handcuffed after he pulled a gun on Shatta Wale, at the VGMA Awards which was held last night. In a statement which countered the report, he stated that chaos at the Awatds was brought under control when the Ghana police intervened. The singer who also revealed that the police team ensured his safety till he got home, also thanked them for their service.

The Buhari administration has reportedly hired the services of an American image-laundering and lobbying firm with offices in the United Kingdom and the United States, whose job description is to undertake ‘outreach and relationship building with various stakeholders’ . According to Premium Times, this came barely a month after Atiku Abubakar hired the services of lobbying firm Fein & DelValle PLLC, founded by a former Justice Department employee, Bruce Fein, to help push narratives that support his challenge of the result of the presidential election among top US politicians.  It was gathered that Atiku who hired the lobbying firm in April, agreed to pay the lobbying firm $30,000 (about N10.8 million) to cover costs and expenses for the services.

In response to Atiku's move, it was gathered that Buhari administration through the office of the Solicitor-General of the Federation, Ministry of Justice, hired another American lobbying firm, Pagefield Global, with offices in London and Washington for about N10 million monthly. Pagefield Global who were hired on May 2, are expected to give “public affairs and public relations advice and monitoring, undertaking outreach and relationship building with various stakeholders and the media in connection with legal disputes that the Solicitor General is conducting on behalf of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”In a bid to avoid public scrutiny, the Nigerian government opted for a non-written contract with Pagefield Global and it was gathered that Pagefield Global will deal directly with Dayo Apata, Nigeria’s Solicitor General.

When contacted, Mr Apata denied knowledge of the contract. However when told that his name was mentioned in the document as the contact person in the Ministry of Justice, he said he needed to look at the documents and “confirm with his boss and then get back to you.”

The management of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LUTH, has queried its registrar over an offending social media post. Dr Abike Alegi was accused of affirming claims of one of the doctors, who alleged the hospital's management said that there was no money to employ new resident doctors.The management of LUTH who queried the registrar over the offending social media post, asked her to provide evidence for the allegations.

It reads in part; 

“We have received a report and confirmed your recent postings on the social media (LUTH Association of Resident Doctors WhatsApp group) on Monday, May 6, 2019, where you affirmed allegations made by your colleagues and also made a serious allegation against the hospital management. You affirmed the allegation of ‘No money to employ residents too’ made by Dr Edward Jolayemi against the management and you posted as follows, ‘I tire o, but they are quick to stop salary once you pass the exam, but can’t employ new hands.’ These are very serious allegations and the management would like you to substantiate them by providing evidence(s) at your disposal. Please forward your explanation and evidence(s) to the undersigned before the close of work (4pm) on Friday, May 10, 2019."

Punch however reported that the ARD in a statement on Monday co-signed by its President and the General Secretary, Dr Kayode Makinde and Dr Jubril Kuku respectively, accused the management of the hospital of spying on members of the association. The group further condemned the query issued to its members.

Ruggedman who in a new press statement, has stated that he had no hand in Naira Marley's arrest as speculated by many. Ruggedman who revealed that he has no hand in Naira Marley's arrest, added that all he did was to caution the young artist who has influence, against making utterances about an issue that by global standard is considered a crime.

He further disclosed that despite the disrespect to his person, he's got nothing against him and only longed for him to be discerning and utilize his position of influence appropriately.

His statement reads in part;

I have read and heard all sorts of comments pertaining to the Naira Marley case and seen the misinformation making the rounds which is quite unfortunate to say the least. I do not know Naira Marley personally, the same way I do not know the over 300 Nigerians I have gotten justice for against police brutality. I hereby state categorically that I had nothing to do with his arrest. We all must recall that he glorified fraud on a public platform where security agencies like the Police, NDLEA and EFCC are also on. I am sure they saw his posts and captions the same way we all did. I, however, was the one that cautioned him. I guess this was what led all the darts and arrows my way as a literal mortal retribution to my person.

A 'hot' business currently going on in Ghana at the moment is the sale of water from dead bodies to Ghanaian Pastors who pay as much as N487k (GH¢7000) for it. A morgue attendant in an interview with Atinka TV, said that the water from the remains of dead people deposited at the various hospitals in Ghana are on high demand and is now a cash cow at most mortuaries in Ghana.

The morgue attendant who stated that they are not well paid, added that the sale of the water from dead bodies to Pastors who use it for their rituals to perform their miracles is now one of their main source of revenue. The man who disclosed that Ghanaian Pastors now pay as much as N487k (GH¢7000) for water from dead bodies, also revealed that some families prefer to wash their dead relatives at the mortuary before taking them home for burial.

“Some people prefer to bath their corpse at the mortuary. So when the attendants mop up the wet floor, they squeeze the dirty water into containers which they keep and sell to some pastors,” the morgue attendant said.
