Super Eagles of Nigeria have moved up 4 places in the new FIFA ranking which was released recently. The Super Eagles moved up 4 places to the 42nd position as they were in the 46th position two months ago. With the new FIFA ranking, Senegal (23) and Tunisia (28) are the only African countries above the Super Eagles. Morocco (45) and Congo DR (46) make complete the top five while Ghana (49), Cameroon (54), Egypt (57), Burkina Faso (58) and Mali (65) complete the top 10. 

Though the Nigerian senior football team recorded a 3-1 win over Seychelles in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier and a friendly 1-0 win over Egypt both in Asaba in March, it had  little impact in the ranking. Belgium leads the world ranking platform and are closely followed by reigning world champions France and Brazil. England are in the Fourth position, after displacing Croatia who drop one place to fifth.  Uruguay, Portugal, Switzerland, Spain and Denmark complete the top 10.

Bola Tinubu, the former Governor of Lagos State who spoke during his 67th birthday celebration on 29 March, narrated how a naval officer slapped him. According to the APC Chieftain, it was an incident he will never forget and it all occurred when he over-charged a naval officer who was returning to the country.

Bola Tinubu who narrated how a naval officer slapped him when he was still a cab driver, said; “One experience I will not forget was when I over-charged a naval officer, who was returning to the country. It was not intentional. Apparently, I didn’t know the direction; there was no GPRS in those days to locate directions. So, he gave me the direction to his house in a Virginia suburb.“I gave him the price and the man responded with a slap to my face. Mr Eazi who talked music and football with Alex Iwobi, Maitland-Niles and Nketiah, disclosed that when Kanu Nwankwo was at at Arsenal, everybody living in his street were Arsenal fans.In the interview which was supported by a partnership between Arsenal and streaming service Tidal, the Nigerian singer said he began supporting Arsenal when the Gunners had former Super Eagles star Kanu Nwankwo as one of its players.

An Islamic cleric, Dr. Agaka, who spoke during his weekly Islamic radio programme in Ilorin disclosed that dowry for Islamic marriage in Nigeria now N13,438. The former Scholar with School for Arabic Studies and Bayero University Kano who further stated that it was permissible for wealthy husbands to pay amounts higher than the official acceptable fee, said the marriage would become invalid and illegal without the dowry being paid.

The Islamic cleric who disclosed that the dowry to be paid in lslamic marriage in Nigeria is now N13, 438,  added that prospective husbands could use cows, parcels of land, gold and other valuables as payment of dowry for their intended wives.

“The dowry in Islam is paid by the man to his wife-to-be as an honour and respect given to her to show his sincerity and commitment to the marriage which also signifies sense of responsibility and obligation" he said.

A Kenyan teacher who donates his salary to poor students, has won a $1M global prize after being crowned the world’s best teacher.


36-year-old science teacher from rural Kenya who emerged winner out of 10,000 nominations from 179 countries, received his prize at a ceremony in Dubai hosted by actor Hugh Jackman. Peter Tabichi, a maths and physics teacher at Keriko secondary school in Pwani Village, who won the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2019, started a “talent nurturing club” and expanded the school’s science club, helping pupils design research projects of such quality that many now qualify for national competitions.

The Kenyan teacher who won the $1M global prize, donates 80% of his salary to help the poorest students at the poorly-equipped and overcrowded school who could not otherwise not afford uniforms and books. It was further gathered that more than 90% of his pupils are from poor families and almost a third are orphans or have only one parent. They reportedly walk 7km along roads that can become impassable in the rainy season to reach the school, and the area can be affected by drought and famine.

Cee-C who got a chance to speak on the third episode of the Big Brother Naija reunion show, told Ebuka that Nina told her that Alex and Tobi had sex in the hotel room.According to Cee-C, the first thing Nina told her on the plane was that 'Alex and Tobi had sex in the hotel room', and it got her laughing so loud because the duo claimed they were besties in the house.  She further revealed that she didn't even know whether to deal with the negativity she was getting from Nigeria or the sex thing.

The pilot who flew the Ethiopian airlines Boeing 737 MAX which crashed was reportedly untrained with the simulator, as claimed by his colleague. According to the deceased's colleague, 29-year-old Yared Getachew, who was the pilot of the Ethiopian Airline Boeing 737 MAX which crashed was untrained on 737 MAX simulator, as he was reportedly due for a  refresher training at the end of March. This training was scheduled to hold, two months after Ethiopian Airlines had received the simulator. 


The March 10 crash alongside the MAX 8 crash in Indonesia in October, reportedly set off one of the biggest inquiries in the aviation history. NAN reported that inquiries focused on whether pilots were sufficiently versed on a new automated systems, as in both cases, the pilots lost control soon after take-off and fought a losing battle to stop their jets plunging down.

President Muhammadu Buhari who has condemned the killings and attacks in Kaduna State, has stated that it is politicized as he told them to stop.The Nigerian President disclosed this that after gunmen on Saturday attacked Nandu-Gbok village in Sanga Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing 10 persons. Punch reported that Sanga is a border town with Nasarawa and Plateau states, where the Deputy Governor-elect, Dr Hadiza Balarabe, hails from.

President Buhari who stated that the Kaduna killings is politicized, further noted that violence could only leave sadness on its trail for the attackers on both sides of the divide and he is deeply troubled by this. 

“I am deeply troubled by the fact that the sanctity of life is now being treated with such a reckless disregard that people derive joy in shedding the blood of others or perceived enemies,” Buhari was quoted as saying in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu.

“No responsible leader would go to bed happy to see his citizens savagely killing one another on account of ethnic and religious bigotry. Violence cannot be the solution to these persistent conflicts as long as people resort to deliberate provocation, revenge and counter-revenge.”“Lack of cooperation by those involved might frustrate government’s efforts towards finding a lasting solution, especially if those efforts are politicised.”

He also expressed his regrets, saying, “Everything is politicised in Nigeria, including the efforts to bring offenders to justice, because their people will rise up in arms to resist their arrests and prosecution.”

Funsho Adeolu who further disclosed that he is called ‘Finest’ by people in the industry, added that he is not a sex symbol as he is just for his wife and kids. 

“It is nothing new. I have always been doing those exercises; just that I don’t upload videos of them on social media. It has been my daily lifestyle for some time now. Everybody has to keep fit, regardless of age.

“From when I was 13 years old to when I was 30, I used to practise tae kwon do. As a matter of fact, I almost got a black belt, and I used to train for a very long time. Now, I decide to exercise by doing something that is convenient for me. Majorly, to exercise, I dance for two hours nonstop. While dancing, I use every part of my body.

“Yes, they call me Finest but it doesn’t make me feel anyhow. It doesn’t make me a sex symbol. Everybody who knows me knows I’m responsible to my wife and children.”

Niniola who disclosed how proud she is of the growth of her younger sister, Teni, in the music industry, also disclosed that she talks to her everyday. Niniola who spoke in an interview with Sunday Scoop, said she talks to Teni everyday as opposed to what some people think, because apart from music, they are also blood sisters. 

“Teni is my baby sister and her success makes me proud. That is my baby doing good and I am very happy for her. That is how a big sister should feel. As a big sister, we talk every day as opposed to what some people think. Apart from music, we are blood sisters.”

The songstress who didn't rule out a collaboration with Teni, urged people to stay vigilant as anything could come up between them. Niniola who further disclosed that 2019 has started off on a good note for her, said  “I have released my first single of 2019, titled Designer, and it is doing well. I plan to release its video very soon.”
