Six police have been arrested over the burning of an INEC registration centre in Ezza North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, during last Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections. The six policemen were arrested over their failure to arrest the hoodlums who invaded the Community Secondary School, Okposi Umuoghara (polling unit 07), which served as of Independent National Electoral Commission’s Registration Area Centre and set ablaze electoral materials within the premises and burnt down the school building.

The hoodlums also invaded the INEC RAC at about 2:15am, and attacked the commission’s officials.“After invading the place, they started shooting sporadically, which scared people away, before setting the centre and INEC sensitive materials ablaze,” an eyewitness told Southern City News.

Ebonyi State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Loveth Odah, who confirmed that six policemen have been arrested over the burning of the INEC registration centre, disclosed that the policemen in their statement said the hoodlums came in and put off the generator supplying light to the centre, which made it difficult for them to confront them (hoodlums) to avoid shooting at an innocent ad-hoc or INEC workers who were in the premises.

“The officers are being tried on oath; they were subjected to internal investigation. They are being investigated and the ad-hoc employees are being investigated,” she said.

“The next thing I saw was a girl who called in naked. I was shocked and scared so I dropped the call. My fans started telling me through the comment section that they wanted her and that I should pick her call. So she called back and I picked her call and she started dancing. I read comments out on my live show regularly, so my fans were the ones saying I should tell her to show her backside.

“I was just reading all those comments out; I even forgot it was a live video chat at some point. My friend now dropped a comment that he was willing to give the girl that danced naked N50, 000. I read out his comment and I mentioned that for this prize, she was now contestant number 1 and I announced that if there was anybody that could dance better than her, (they should reveal themselves).

“That was how it happened; the next thing was that they changed the whole thing. Now they are saying I told girls to strip for N50, 000; if I want strippers, I will go to a club in Lagos and I will see enough strippers,” he said.

“I didn’t even bother to read the comments. It wasn’t an easy time for me because it was about females; most of my fans are girls. Even my Instagram statistics show that 70 per cent of my fans are girls while the other 30 per cent are men. I am not scared that it can damage my career; nothing can damage my career.

“I am too blessed for anything in this life to damage my career. Even if someone writes something to damage my career, they are only promoting me. Even the girl that won the money wrote on her status that she was the proud winner of N50, 000 (and) that Nigerians are hypocrites.“I was scared to do the live video after that, but people encouraged me to continue. When I tried it yesterday, I jokingly said no one should go naked again, and everybody laughed. It doesn’t stop my giveaway though. Some fans also give people cash gifts on my live videos,” he added.

I am going to make more noise about this; they need to start renovating these hospitals. A hospital should be a place where people go to and feel comfortable, not going there and coming back with another ailment. I am sure the government is disbursing funds to the health sector, but it is probably being embezzled.

“I saw a lot of people sleeping on the floor, the drip stands were not sufficient. It is not mere hearsay, I saw these things myself. Bed spaces were not even enough, basic things need to be provided. These are minor things that the government needs to look into. I don’t even think the doctors are properly paid.“I am extremely scared of the future of my children and the generation to come in this country. I am doing this for the next generation. These people are just wicked, they go to treat themselves abroad and they know how things are done over there. I have lived abroad for about five years and I know how things are done.

“Here, even the air you breathe in the government hospitals is irritating. This is for the future of our children; I was abroad because my husband was based there. I had to come back to focus on my career. For people that have not come back, they have their reasons. When they even hear about the bad things happening in this country, will they want to come back?” she told Saturday Beats.

Soulja Boy has been arrested and taken into custody for violating his terms of his probation after a gun was found in his house in 2011.

Soulja Boy was arrested while meeting with his probation officer on Friday morning in the San Fernando Valley area of Southern California, as it was gathered that terms of his probation which stem from a 2011 firearms charge, strictly forbid the Chicago-born artist from possessing any guns or ammunition.

He reportedly broke his probation agreement after the police searched his mansion in February, and found an ammunition in his possession following a call from a woman who said she was held hostage. The rapper is currently being held at Van Nuys jail, where he awaits a courtroom appointment later today. R. Kelly has turned himself in to the police, after being indicted on 10 counts charge of sexual abuse with underage girls. 

R. Kelly who was charged with sexual abuse of 4 girls, at least 3 of whom were minors, turned himself in on Friday night at a Chicago police station. The allegations include oral and vaginal sex with a girl between the ages of 13 and 17 ... and the allegations are extremely graphic. 

Michael Avenatti who will be representing one of alleged abused girls, claims Kelly's 2008 trial -- in which he was found not guilty -- was rigged by threats and payoffs, as he claimed that the new sex tape he turned over to prosecutors shows R. Kelly engaging in sex acts with a 14-year-old girl -- vaginal sex, MouthAction, anal sex and urination.

If found guilty of the allegations which is a class 2 felony in Illinois, R. Kelly faces a maximum sentence of 3 to 7 years in prison for each charge.

Three robberry suspects identified as Obinna Opara, 32; Kalanwa Goodluck, 32; and Chimamkpa Eziria, 17 who operate in NYSC uniforms have been arrested by SARS operatives in Imo State. 

One locally made pistol and one foreign made pistol, were recovered from the robbery suspects who operate in NYSC uniforms. Imo State Commissioner of Police, Dasuki Galadanchi, who paraded the suspects before newsmen, said that one Mrs Maria Chijioke and occupants of a Toyota Sienna were recent victims of the suspects. 

"The suspects were arrested between January 21 and 24, at Umerelu Ikwerre Local Government Area in Rivers State, as well as at Mgbeshi in Ohaji and Egbema LGA of Imo State.

“They have made useful statements to the police and confessed to robbing and kidnapping unsuspecting road users along Port-Harcourt-Owerri Road. They also confessed to wearing NYSC uniforms and stopping drivers to seek assistance from them after which they would kidnap occupants of such vehicles for ransom" he said.

Adebayo Shittu, Nigeria's Minister of Communications who reacted to calls for resignation of INEC Boss, Yakubu Mahmood,  spearheaded by Adams Oshiomhole, has stated that the former Edo State Governor must first resign as APC Chairman before asking the INEC boss to. 

The Minister of Communications who spoke on Monday, February 18, with reporters at his Ibadan residence on the rescheduling of the general elections urged Nigerians to give the INEC chairman a benefit of doubt. According to him, if the INEC Chairman resigns, it would affect the conduct of the rescheduled general elections on Saturday, February 23.
“When Oshiomhole supervised a horrible primaries elections of the party, who called for his resignation? I will not support such call for resignation of the INEC chairman. To err is human. We have not seen any political motivation as to what has happened in INEC. If Oshiomhole calls for the resignation of the INEC chairman, he should also be preparing to resign as chairman. Did anybody ask him to resign for the horrible management of primary elections under his watch?

“This is the first election that Professor Yakubu will be conducting, so we need to give him the benefit of doubt and I will advise that all the political parties be vigilant. 'If you bring in another chairman, when does such person begin to learn the process? Or will you on the bases of that call for another rescheduling of the elections? Certainly, it is unacceptable for anyone to ask for the resignation of INEC chairman,” he said.

A 6-year-old pupil identified as Imran, who featured on the February 4 edition of Brekete Family Talk Show on Human Rights Radio/Television, exposed sodomy in a Kuje College. 

The boy's mother, Dr Hannatu Ayuba Usman, an oncologist with the National Hospital, Abuja, and his grandmother, Hajia Salamatu Abubakar Maina who confirmed the boy's ordeal at the School for the Deaf, Kuje, Abuja, disclosed that he just spent one term after he transferred from another school in Kaduna.
The 6-year-old pupil who exposed sodomy and cannibalism at the Kuje College, recounted how he was forced to watch other children slaughtered and how the corpses were roasted and the flesh forcefully shoved down the victims’ throats.  It was further learnt that the boy is in need of surgery in his anus (as he could no longer control faeces) and an MRI scan because of the beating to his head.

The Police confirmed the story and the mother of abused boy who shared a text with sunnewsonline, wrote; 

“This evening the FCT Police command CID confirmed that my son was sexually assaulted, after all the propaganda that it’s a false allegation against the Abuja School for the Deaf, Kuje. The Vatican has expelled 88-year-old U.S. Cardinal Theodore McCarrick, after he was found guilty of soliciting for sex while hearing confession and of sexual crimes against minors and adults.

The former Cardinal who became a power-broker as archbishop of Washington from 2001 to 2006, has been living in seclusion in a remote friary in Kansas, had before now responded publicly to only one of the allegations, saying he has “absolutely no recollection” of an alleged case of sexual abuse of a 16-year-old boy more than 50 years ago.

The media personality who had earlier persuaded the electoral commission's chairman to react to rumours of the postponement of elections, stated that he pities the pity the foreigners, media crew, election monitors, who are already on ground to work.

He further buttressed his claims in an article titled 'Pendulum: Four Years After, We Are Back to Square One'. Read the article below; 

Fellow Nigerians, how time flies indeed. About four years ago, we went through this very ritual, though the election was shifted by six weeks, for reasons we believed was an excuse to get the ruling government better prepared to consolidate its grip on power. Before long, the six weeks arrived, and there was no hiding place. Even as I write this, many doubting Thomases still believe the APC government is not sincerely ready for today’s Presidential election and that it may still spring a surprise on us. Thus, there have been unconfirmed stories of the elections being postponed for a matter of days because of logistic problems. For my own part, I doubt that the authorities will act in such a cavalier manner, particularly as there are numerous local and international observers and world media around. All eyes are on us.

As you know already, my people are never short of conspiracy theories. These have been fuelled by strange events and activities that are occurring very close to E-Day! For example, there have been reports of sporadic fire outbreaks in a few INEC centres, very strange indeed when one considers the proximity of such fires to the election date. However, I have not seen much coverage explaining the magnitude of the respective conflagrations. We have also read reports of some sample ballot papers being found inside many sacks in Kano. Again, no one has come out to explain what any sane human being could be doing with sample ballot papers. The main thing is that PDP is being treated to mind-games in this high-stakes plot, the end of which no one can predict.

Say what you will, I choose to trust two key people in the whole of this election saga. The first is the Chairman of INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu, who has already attained the peak of his academic career and would not want to taint and end his distinguished life as a fiendish villain despised by all and treated like a maggot. So far, Professor Yakubu and INEC have managed to acquit themselves well in the preparation and run up to these general elections. They may have blotted their copy book particularly with regard to INEC’s role in the Osun State governorship elections but as this is one of the election cases currently trundling through the courts, I will say no more. It would be the height of foolishness and foolhardiness on his part to lower the bar as set and measured by what his immediate predecessor, Professor Attahiru Jega, achieved with a resounding ovation, barely four years ago. I refuse to imagine that Professor Yakubu would sacrifice his personal reputation and remarkable life, for politicians whose lives have almost expired.

Two. The other important man I choose to trust, almost blindly, although I know little or nothing about him, is the new Acting Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, who recently took over from the querulous, cantankerous and rambunctious Ibrahim Idris who fought more battles against real and imaginary enemies than he tackled the horrendous security challenges in the land. I have taken time to watch and study Adamu, as meticulously as possible, in the short time since he has been appointed acting I-G. and I’m reasonably convinced that he is educated, intelligent, smart, charismatic and cosmopolitan. I am unsure about some of the decisions he has taken, one relating to the re-deployment of Commissioners of Police in Ogun State. It seems to me that this decision is in good faith and is made because of the disgraceful way in which street urchins and thugs were brought into the arena to hurl stones at the President and other APC leaders during the Presidential rally in Ogun State.  This was a remarkable show of shame orchestrated to serve the interest of an opposition candidate and shows the real tragedy that has befallen APC, as the general elections loom. It is inconceivable that the Police would not take steps to ensure that the mayhem that occurred that day is not allowed to repeat itself during the elections. For me, it would be a calamity if it turns out later that I have wasted all these superlative adjectives on another recklessly irresponsible police officer. It is always a pity seeing some overzealous people throw decorum to the winds in order to please a god with feet of clay. Time will tell.

For whatever it means, and because I bear him no grudge, I have said it numerous times, and reiterate, that I personally like President Muhammadu Buhari. His personal attributes particularly his discipline and abstemiousness are worthy of emulation. He has demonstrated in the past that he is a credible person, although that has been put to question by some of the actions that his government has recently been taking. There is a hint of desperation to cling to power which does not augur well for our country or indeed the President himself.  I therefore will wish, and pray, that President Buhari meant every word he uttered in his various promises to the nation that he’ll execute free, fair and credible elections starting from today. I have no reason to doubt him. He is acclaimed as a man of integrity. This is the time for him to prove that he is indeed a man who is passionate about Nigeria and means his word that the country will not be broken up and Balkanised.  God has been very kind to President Buhari and his family. He practically returned from the dead less than two years ago and has somehow managed to steer the ship of State from then till today. Nigerians have not complained too much about the situation they found themselves. Rather, as is typical, they prayed for the restoration of good health to their President and their prayers were answered. Therefore, if Nigerians reject him at the polls, in a free and fair contest today, or whenever it pleases the almighty INEC, he should thank Allah for the uncommon opportunity and grace given to him for the second chance to serve Nigeria as it’s supreme ruler. He should go home in peace, to enjoy quality time with his gorgeous wife, beautiful children and adorable grandchildren. The Presidency is nobody’s personal property or fiefdom. He should take solace in joining the commendable and enviable company of other incumbent Presidents in Africa, like Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria and John Dramani Mahama of Ghana, who made no fuss before accepting defeat in good faith, no matter the secret pains. President Buhari should remember to call his successful opponent, most likely, Atiku Abubakar, and offer his best wishes. I promise, this gesture will turn out to be an icing on Buhari’s cake for final retirement. His apotheosis would also have been guaranteed instantly.

On the other hand, if Atiku Abubakar, fails in a free and fair contest, he should accept his destiny with equanimity. I can understand that it would be a difficult time for him because it has been a long arduous journey for him to eventually land the presidential candidacy and ticket of a mainstream party. It is natural that he and his supporters will feel very disappointed having worked extremely hard to defeat and unseat President Buhari. Atiku should take solace in the fact that he has fought a good fight. His campaign has proceeded in a decent manner and he has concentrated mainly on the issues and not allowed himself to be dragged into the gutter politics that has sometimes been employed against him by some of his more overenthusiastic and fanatical opponents. Atiku must accept that in every contest, only one person can win. As long as the election is free and fair enough, the over-all interest of the country must be considered. Besides, there are remedies already embedded in the electoral act if there has been any unfairness. Justice may tarry, but it will come eventually, no matter how much people may try to manipulate the system and the judiciary.

My only worry is about President Buhari’s footsoldiers. From their utterances and body language, it is obvious that they are spoiling for war and are only ready to go down fighting. They do not seem to care about the outcome of free and fair elections as long as their candidate does not lose. They have boisterously announced to the world, and the President himself has echoed them, that no one can unseat him. That statement may be considered condescending and outrightly arrogant and capable of pouring petrol into the raging fire.

This is very sad because only four years ago, we witnessed the public ignominy suffered by Elder Peter Godsday Orubebe who was busy throwing tantrums like a baby while results of the contest between Buhari and President Jonathan were being announced. It was such a show of shame. Why would the government that came in after that disastrous melodrama repeat the same nonsense? Indeed, on reflection, it seems to me that this Government has in recent times been following the same path to perdition that the PDP and Jonathan followed towards the end of that administration.  It is like history repeating itself.  There is a surreal element of déjà vu playing out. It is my hope that the same silly season and scenario does not repeat itself come the final collation and announcement of results. Nigeria cannot afford such shame and indignity again.

What is wrong with some of the young folks in APC who behave as if they can’t find other things to do expect government work? And because of their own personal avarice and self-aggrandizement, they are unconcerned about the greater good of the greater number of people and their country. No one should ever think of setting Nigeria on fire again. Nigeria has been too kind to these people, and they should, please, leave Nigeria in peace and not in pieces.

From where I stand, I can see very clearly that whatever happens, whenever this election is held, now or in the near future, the ruling government is clearly in trouble and the ruling party has virtually collapsed, with almost no hope of redemption in sight. A house divided against itself that still wishes to stand tall may be mere wishful thinking. APC has abdicated governance and its leadership has started behaving like Emperors and conquerors. The in-fighting is so much that we no longer know who is actually in charge. In all honesty, how can a party that can no longer direct its own affairs, and a President who seems to be clueless about how to maintain party unity, discipline and loyalty, and is apparently not in charge of virtually anything, ask for people’s votes in good conscience? Such a party cannot deliver good governance, much more the change that was promised four years ago. However, it is ultimately the people’s choice as to which road they want to traverse.

From Lagos to Ogun to Adamawa to Imo to Rivers to Zamfara to Kaduna to Delta, it has been one tale of woe or the other. And it all boils down to the refusal of party chieftains to act as true democrats. What is worse, the party has rubbished some of the key figures that brought it to power, many of who have since returned to where they came from, PDP. The major assets that brought Buhari to power have all collapsed and it mainly liabilities that can be seen all around.

The day of reckoning is here. The People will have their say. The contending gladiators must also ensure that the People must have their way. Their choice must prevail no matter whose ox is gored. Nobody is bigger than Nigeria.

Funke Etti who recounted her accomplishments in an interview with Saturday Beats, stated that her only regret in life is not being done with childbirth at 25. 

Funke Etti who will soon be turning 40 also disclosed that if she had a daughter, she will advice her to get married at 26. She said; 

“I only have one regret in life; if I could turn back the hands of time to when I was 25, I would have loved to achieve a lot of things. For instance, at that age, I would have been done with childbirth. When I see some of my colleagues that have grown children, I admire them. I also consider myself to be lucky and I give glory to God because there are some of my colleagues that are still hoping to have children. I also know that God does things at the appropriate time. When I have a daughter, I will advise her to get married by age 26.

“Motherhood is a very lovely experience but it is not an easy task. I remember those days before I had kids, I could go out around 1am. Once in a while, I would go to a club, just to enjoy myself but now, I have to think of the children before taking any action.”

The United States has again warned Nigerian political leaders of severe sanctions if their comments incite the people to violence that disrupts the smooth conduct of the general election.

The U.S. ambassador to Nigeria, Stuart Symington, also warned public officials not to be deceived by politicians who may issue illegal directives to them using the name of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Mr Symington gave the warning on Thursday in Makurdi, Benue State. He was speaking with journalists after his meeting with the state governor, Samuel Ortom.

According to a report of the encounter monitored on Channels TV, Mr Symington cautioned against taking implementing illegal directives to manipulate the elections.

He said political leaders have a responsibility to ensure that the elections this year are free and fair

“If anybody asks you to do something that is not right and says the boss wants you to do it, or the person at the top wants you to do it, don’t believe him; because the person at the top is honestly saying they want to win a fair election. There is a reason not to believe them,” the envoy said.

Although Mr Symington did not mention President Muhammadu Buhari by name, the president has repeatedly expressed his commitment to free and fair elections. He, like other top presidential candidates, also signed a peace accord, pledging his commitment to peaceful and non-violent conduct irrespective of the outcome of the elections.

On Thursday, Mr Symington advised Nigerians not to believe those who may want to compromise the electoral process. He warned that people are responsible for their own actions.

“The citizens are responsible to their God, second to their conscience and third to the laws of Nigeria, fourth to the court of public opinion in Nigeria and finally international law and the rest of us,” he said.

He said in the few days to the election, people will say things irrespective of their intentions, “either to hate or to stir up violence”.

He warned that such people would be held to account.

Mr Symington spoke two days after a statement by Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, that any military intervention in Nigeria would be resisted.

The statement made by the governor on a national television programme ignited an outcry, with the opposition Peoples Democratic Party warning it may withdraw from the peace accord the political parties signed to promote violence-free elections.


On Wednesday, the European Union election observers reacted to Mr El-Rufai’s remarks by stating that they were in Nigeria on the invitation to monitor the processes of the election and not to interfere in the affairs of the country.

Earlier last month, the US and its western allies, the United Kingdom and the European Union, gave a similar caution following the furore that greeted President Muhammadu Buhari’s suspension of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter Onnoghen.

The police has confirmed that Argentine player, Emiliano Sala's body was recovered from a plane in the English Channel. The announcement was made on Thursday evening after a coroner's examination of the body, which was recovered from the seabed wreckage of the plane on Wednesday.

Though ivestigators have not been able to recover the aircraft after an initial search and rescue operation failed , however Dorset police confirmed that Sala's body was recovered from the plane wreckage. 

“The body brought to Portland Port today has been formally identified by HM Coroner for Dorset as that of professional footballer Emiliano Sala,” Dorset Police said in a statement.

“The families of Mr. Sala and the pilot David Ibbotson have been updated with this news and will continue to be supported by specially-trained family liaison officers. Our thoughts remain with them at this difficult time.”

Recall that the  Piper Malibu aircraft disappeared with Sala and pilot David Ibbotson on board on January 21 , with the 28-year-old en route to Cardiff from having completed a club-record transfer from Ligue 1 side Nantes.

A Nigerian man identified as Peter Nkwuda, reportedly stabbed his neighbour to death over noise at their residence at Oroke Onuoha, Ebonyi Local Government Area of the state on Monday.

The 25-year-old man stabbed his 50-year-old neighbour, Cyril Oko to death, after they got into a heated argument for raising the volume of his sound system to the discomfort of his co-tenants. He was reportedly asked to reduce the volume of the sound system, but reportedly refused. 

However after Cyril barged into his room and reduced the sound system's volume himself, Peter brought out a knife and allegedly stabbed his neighbour in the chest. The deceased reportedly died at the scene as all effort to stop the bleeding, proved abortive. 

Ebonyi state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, who confirmed the incident, said the suspect was arrested after the wife of the deceased Mrs Chisom Nkwuda, reported the incident to the Kpiripkiri Police Station. Police operatives also visited the scene and took the deceased to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki, where he was confirmed dead.
