Walter Onnoghen, the embattled Chief Justice of Nigeria who has asked Danladi Umar, Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) Chairman, to hands off his trial because he is on a mission to please his masters. 

Onnoghen who filed a new motion before the CCT through his lawyers, while responding to a directive by the CCT chairman, asking him to appear for trial, described the CCT chairman as the “prosecutor, judge and jury who has constructively convicted” him without either hearing from the defendant or his being formally arraigned before him.

The Nation reported that he described Umar as a “tainted arbiter” who is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged bribery, and further stated that he has showed acts of partisanship and “demonstrated favourable dispositions towards the respondent.”

“The honourable tribunal, especially the Chairman, has constituted himself as the prosecutor and accuser of the defendant/applicant and cannot in good and clear conscience continue to be part of the proceedings and trial of the applicant,” the motion read.

“The partiality of the honourable Chairman of the tribunal is not in doubt as there are manifest cases of real likelihood of bias on the part of the Chairman of the tribunal against the applicant by reason inter alia of the disclosures above.

“The applicant has no confidence in the honourable Chairman of the tribunal to do justice fairly between parties in this case as he is a man on a mission to please his masters.”

He urged the tribunal to issue an order “directing the honourable Chairman of the tribunal, Honourable Danladi Umar to disqualify/recuse himself from further participating in the adjudication of this case on the ground of real likelihood of bias.”

A man who used renal failure patients’ pictures to defraud Nigerians, has been arrested in Abuja. 

The suspect identified as 40-year-old Goodluck Onyewenyi, reportedly raised over N4.7m by writing to wealthy individuals to seek their financial support for patients needing kidney transplant. The man used the renal failure patients’ pictures to defraud Nigerians by soliciting for money from unsuspecting members of the public, which he then pocketed.

Goodluck Onyewenyi who used the photo of family friend who died in 2014 to perpetrate the sad act, opened a bank account in the name of the patient to defraud unsuspecting members of the public. On his own part, the arrested suspect who did not deny the crime claimed the money he raised was taken by an NGO. 

“It is very unfortunate; it is not intentional but the NGO is not available now; that is why I’m taking the blame for everything. I and the family have reached an agreement to sell my car, but I am surprised to find myself here (at the police command). We are trying to settle the matter,” he claimed.

The police has arrested one of the Lagos hotelier and manager’s killers, and a manhunt has been launched for the other suspects involved. '

Vincent Ehizojie was arrested after the CCTV footage in the toilet of the hotel revealed the killers of Olusola, who had return from London less than a year ago to oversee the affairs of the hotel, and Omikunle. The gang which consisted of the sacked workers and some others still in the employ of the hotel, allegedly drugged the manager, tied his hands and feet and strangled him. They then moved took the access card to Olusola’s room from the murdered manager, before tying up the UK returnee and also killing her. 

It was learnt that Ehizojie and two staff members, Henry Lolo and Okechi Ezi, conspired with two contract employees, simply identified as Dubai and Dangote, to rob the London returnee of her hard-earned money, added that they did so with the belief that they had no future in the hotel.

Food served to other staff members who were not part of the plan, was laced with sleep-inducing stimulant known as S.K.

A young  boy who was apprehended today in Bolade area of Oshodi, Lagos, wore his sister's panties after stealing it for an undisclosed reason. The young boy who has long been handed over to the police, wore his sister's panties before wearing his jean to conceal the underwear from public notice.

This is coming after we reported that the Nigerian Police Force in new tweets,  disclosed that they can’t investigate stealing of panties for rituals because it is not empirically verifiable.

According to the unidentified lady, Mfoniso is disgracing himself and his family by advertising what pays his bill online.

Edo State has recorded 30 cases of Lassa fever, as confirmed by Innocent Alenoghena, the Director, Primary Health Care Services in Etsako-West Local Government Area, Edo. 

Mr Alenoghena who spoke during a sensitisation/awareness campaign against the increase of Lassa fever in the area, said the 30 persons diagnosed to be suffering from the ailment were currently at the Irrua Specialist Hospital, Irrua.

NAN reported that he said; 

“About 30 persons have been infected with the disease in the council area. Lassa fever disease is fast spreading across the local government.

“Edo State has the highest number of persons infected with the disease with Etsako West topping the chart. The LGC has declared a state of emergency on the Lassa fever epidemic, following the scourge of the disease in the area"

The National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has removed Governor Rochas Okorocha as Imo campaign coordinator, few days after the committee chaired by Mathew Omegara summoned the Imo State governor and six others to appear before it.

National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, who confirmed that the APC has removed Okorocha as Imo campaign coordinator, said the decision followed the recommendation of the disciplinary committee set up by the Imo APC over allegations of anti-party activities levelled against the governor and others.

Punch reported that he said; 

“What has happened in Imo shows that the APC means business. Once they have complied with all the rules, no problem. When they bring the recommendation to the NWC, we will look at it.”

 “The APC had directed governors to take over the campaign of the party in the state. Where it has no governor, it directed governorship candidate to take over. Since Okorocha has displayed anti-party traits, you can’t expect him to be part of our strategic meetings again.”

“The party should be appreciated that it is possible to query a governor and recommend him for suspension,” he added.

Nigerians have taken to Twitter, to react to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo canceling his interview with Ebuka on Rubbin Minds today.

The cancellation announcement was made by Laolu Akande, a spokesperson for Mr Osinbajo, who in his tweet on Sunday afternoon disclosed that his boss will not be appearing on Channels Television‘s ‘Rubbin’ Minds’ because of campaign exigencies.

“Sincere apologies that VP Osinbajo cant make ‘Rubbing Minds’ this afternoon on Channels TV.

“Being a live programme, the exigencies of campaign timing make it impossible for VP to appear on show as scheduled today. We’re working with producers to reschedule his participation ASAP,” Mr Akande said.
