Politics / Soldiers Attacked My Convoy, NOT Boko Haram, Says Borno Governor by oluemmakay(m): 11:32pm On Aug 04, 2020
Babagana Zulum, governor of Borno state, says the attack on his convoy was carried out by soldiers.

On Wednesday, the governor’s convoy was attacked in Baga while on his way to some internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in Kukawa local government area of the state.

The attack was initially believed to have been carried out by Boko Haram insurgents but speaking with reporters, Zulum attributed it to a sabotage from the army.

“You heard what happened at Baga. It is a complete sabotage. The issue is not about the president. The soldiers and equipment are on ground. We have a total number of about 1,181 soldiers in Baga. I think the problem is in the command or control structure which has to be looked into,” Zulum said.

“I cannot end my interview without clearly stating what happened. As far as I am concerned, there was no Boko Haram inside the town yesterday. That was a serious shooting by the Nigerian armed forces who are residing in Baga. The situation is very embarrassing.

“I think we shall give them some sufficient time because Baga is very important. The shores of the Lake Chad provide employment opportunities to about 10 million people in the north-east.”

In January, he accused the troops of extorting road users.

Crime / Trending Criminal Tactics In Lagos:a Lady Recount Her Experience by oluemmakay(m): 8:53am On Jun 30, 2020
Today I was about to board a keke headed to ilasa from jakande estate isolo suddenly a guy tapped me from behind and I shunned him. He left but immediately he did another came I thought he was a passenger just like me only for him to threaten me.
Saying if I didn’t want to die I should go and apologize to the guy that I was flying their color and still being rude while still trying to understand what was happening he lifted his shirt and showed me something that looked like a gun, I froze.
This was about 1pm in broad daylight but I was scared stiff, I went to apologize but then a third appeared saying he was the number 1 of the cult and that didn’t I know there was a cult war going on in that area that I was an informant.
He accused me of calling someone, he asked me to walk with him, I made sure to stay close and In sight where people could still see me I was shaking at this point, confused and helpless, I unlocked my phone showed him my call log and messages.
While all this was happening he was signaling the other two guys who started everything, then I realized they were about 6 positioned in different places but close I got even more scared at this point begging and crying that I was sorry.
That he should let me go he said I shouldn’t cry or panic that I was safe with him, he was making phone calls asking them not to shoot me that I wasn’t the one while all this was happening people were passing going about their business, I felt helpless.
Then he made a statement that made me realize that they weren’t cultists but kidnappers, he said that I was going to see a keke drive by and park that I should enter it that I would be safe, that was when I realized I was in even more danger than I thought.
After he said that something woke up in me and I realized I had only a few minutes to either save myself or that was the end, The supposed number 1 guy turned to signal on of the guys and I made a run for it I crossed the road without looking.
I ran as fast as I could crying, I was to scared to stop or tell anyone I kept running until I got to my friends shop at jakande gate told her and her boss what just happened and they tried to comfort me, I was scared and in shock, I am still in shock.
I’m sharing this so ladies can be aware, I have never experienced such, Ladies please be careful especially when you are alone whether day or night, Lagos isn’t safe. May God continue to keep us safe.
I’m grateful to be here to tell this story it could have been something different.
Politics / Power Grid Has Collapsed 108 Times After Privatisation – TCN by oluemmakay(m): 4:00am On Jun 30, 2020
The nation’s electricity grid has collapsed 108 times after the power sector was privatised, data from the Transmission Company of Nigeria have shown.

The TCN, which manages the national grid, is still fully owned and operated by the government.

While the TCN says the grid has a wheeling capacity of 8,100MW, the highest power generation ever attained in the country stands at 5,375MW.

The sector was privatised by the President Goodluck Jonathan administration with 11 electricity distribution companies and six generation companies handed over to core investors on November 1, 2013.

Between November 1, 2013 and May 2020, the number of total grid collapse recorded was 83 while the grid partially collapsed 25 times.

A total system collapse means total blackout nationwide, while partial system collapse is a failure of a section of the grid, according to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission

The grid has continued to suffer system collapse over the years amid lack of spinning reserve that is meant to forestall such occurrences.

Spinning reserve is the generation capacity that is online but unloaded and that can respond within 10 minutes to compensate for generation or transmission outages.

Although five power stations are meant to provide spinning reserves, sometimes none may have actual reserve.

The power stations are Egbin, Delta, Olorunsogo NIPP, Geregu NIPP and Omotosho NIPP.

The Nigerian Economic Summit Group recently advised the Federal Government to complete the power and energy sector deregulation process by opening up the transmission segment of the power value chain to private participation and investments.

The group said in its 2020 Macroeconomic Outlook,

“In doing this, three criteria should be considered for willing and prospective investors – managerial experience, technical expertise and financial capabilities.

“These are key to the success of the power/energy sector reform road map in Nigeria.”

The system operator, an arm of the TCN, put the nation’s installed generation capacity at 12,910.40MW; available capacity at 7,652.60MW; transmission wheeling capacity at 8,100MW; and the peak generation ever attained at 5,375MW.

In another development, the leadership of the National Assembly on Monday met and convinced electricity distribution companies to defer the plan to hike tariffs till the first quarter of 2021.

This was contained in a statement issued late Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the Senate President on Media and Publicity, Ola Awoniyi.

The statement read, “The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, and other principal officers of the two chambers met at the National Assembly with the chief executive of the government electricity regulatory body and Discos across the country.

“The meeting agreed to defer the planned hike till first quarter of next year while the leadership of the National Assembly promised to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari on the issue.”

“The agreement here is that there is not going to be any increase in the tariffs on July 1st,” Lawan was quoted to have said at the end of the meeting.

Politics / COVID-19: NCDC Issues New Guidelines For Worship Centres by oluemmakay(m): 5:07am On Jun 14, 2020
As the Presidential Task Force, PTF, on COVID-19, reviews restriction measures, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, on Saturday issued new guidelines for places of worship across the country, warning against any form of direct contact.

In the new guidelines signed by the Director-General of NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu, practices such as handshakes as peace signs are discouraged.

According to the Agency, “practices that require sharing of materials should be limited. For example, ablution should be performed at home.”

The NCDC guidelines also demanded that religious centres be disinfected routinely, before and after worship.

It states that “there should be no entry without face masks. All attendees and religious leaders must wear a face mask. People who are sick should not go to places of worship. There should be temperature screening on entry.

“Hand washing facilities and hand sanitisers should be provided at the point of entries and strategic points, and attendance at religious settings should not exceed 1/3 of sitting capacity.”

They also demanded that religious centres be clearly marked such that people sit and maintain a two-metres distance from each other.

The NCDC guidelines also provide additional requirements to ensure that places of worship are safe.

According to Ihekweazu, other guidelines for worship places can be downloaded via NCDC website in order to reduce the risk of infection in places of worship.

He said NCDC would continue to work with states to provide technical assistance and resources to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect the health of Nigerians.

His words: “In several countries, COVID-19 outbreaks have been linked to large gatherings, including religious and non-religious gatherings.

“In the absence of a vaccine, Nigeria and the rest of the world must depend on public health, social measures and supportive management of confirmed cases.

“We urge all Nigerians to take individual and collective responsibility by adhering to public health advice.”

On the June 2, the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 announced the relaxation of the previous ban placed on religious settings, allowing faith groups to meet while adhering to public health and social measures.

Or the Lab test is wrong.
