MikoB: Anyway if you count Russia as Europe, here they don't really count Russia as Europe, because she borders Europe Asia and America, moreover its so obvious now that Russia can't stand UK france Germany or even Italy without nuclear, do you know france was making aircraft carrier for Russia before the contract was stoped because of crimea, and also supplies her many ammunitions, and let me burst your bubble with this fact, france is no 1 when it comes to most war won by any country. Russia is a corrupt country, that does not really have modern day equipments for war, we all can see this with the war in Ukraine. Lol! Is like saying because the US failed in Afghanistan, they can't take on North Korea or China. Different war, different tactics. Russian bomber fleet of TU-160 and TU-22m will desimate those countries mentioned above. While her Hypersonic missiles (Zircon & Khinzal) will be used to destroy their defense systems. |
Foreign Affairs › Re: Why Has Putin’s Army Struggled Against Ukraine? by olugabbie(m): 8:12am On Mar 19, 2022 |
Cousin9999: The Russian army’s missteps have played out in videos circulated on social media around the world — armored vehicles bogged down in mud and entire tank convoys ambushed by Ukrainian troops.
For days, satellite images showed a massive Russian military convey stretching 40 miles long sitting stalled outside Kyiv. Once considered among the most powerful fighting forces in the world, the Russian army now appears vulnerable.
That perceived weakness on a global stage has some worried that Putin will escalate the conflict to overcompensate for his army’s lack of progress.
“It looks to me like they’re probably going to hit the cities much, much harder and then only go in with troops after they have destroyed much of the cities,” retired Army Lt. Col. Daniel Davis told NewsNation. “I do fear it could get a lot worse.”
Davis said Russia does not have enough troops to attack each major city one-by-one. Instead, he expects Putin’s forces to use missiles to bombard population centers, given their significant combat power.
Other sectors of Russia’s military have also underperformed. Once thought to be a sure thing, the Russian air force has not established air superiority over Ukraine. That means air support for ground forces has been limited, another contributing factor to the slowed advance.
Continues in next post None of the US generals that have commented on the conflict mentioned that the Russian military is weak. Including experts. When the US left Afghanistan, people were disappointed. But that does not mean the US military is weak. The Generals, the experts, and most of the analyst know the true capability of the Russian military. |

joyandfaith: Russia-Ukraine war Russia’s war and peace scenarios in Ukraine And the unique role of an unlikely mediator, China.
Marwan Bishara Marwan Bishara Senior political analyst at Al Jazeera. Published On 18 Mar 2022 18 Mar 2022
As the Russian invasion of Ukraine entered its fourth week, there were murmurs about a possible understanding between the two sides over the contours of a diplomatic solution, beginning with Kyiv abandoning future membership of NATO.
The bilateral talks between Russia and Ukraine were persisting, despite Moscow’s continuous bombardment of Ukrainian cities and maximalist demands that Kyiv recognises its claims to Crimea and the eastern regions and downsizes its military.
But suddenly, the United States “poured cold water” on the hopes of any diplomatic solution.
US President Joe Biden labelled his Russian counterpart, President Vladimir Putin, “a war criminal”, and instructed his administration to investigate Russia’s “war crimes”, in a clear attempt at undermining the negotiations, which Washington considers superfluous.
By demonising Putin as a “war criminal”, Washington made it clear that it will accept no compromise as long as the Russian leader rules over the Kremlin, and is ready to continue the fight against Russia until the last Ukrainian standing, alas.
The hawkish American position may further dissuade Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and disincentivize president Putin for whom any peace deal would only be meaningful if it involves the lifting of the US/Western sanctions.
Squeezed between the Russian and American maximalist positions, Zelenskyy is left with little or no room for diplomatic manoeuvring.
All of which opens the way for a number of war scenarios that would dictate the nature of the peace to come – depending on the war’s duration and outcome.
The first such scenario involves Russia deploying greater forces and more lethal weapons to achieve faster comprehensive victory, and take control of the capital before imposing “hegemonic peace” on Ukraine that includes partitioning of the country.
But this may prove a mirage as Ukrainians refuse to surrender and continue to resist the Russian occupation with Western support.
This opens the possibility for a second scenario: Ukraine devolving into a “second Afghanistan”, which if you recall, led to Moscow’s defeat in 1989 and paved the way for the collapse of the Soviet Union, but only after a decade of war devastated the war-torn country.
Now, Putin may be a lot of things, but he is no fool, and seems to have learned from Moscow’s (and Washington’s) past mistake, ie, avoid the total occupation of another vast country like Afghanistan, even if it does not have such rough mountainous terrain.
That’s why his strategy, dubbed “special military operation”, thus far has had limited objectives, notably to force a regime change or change of behaviour in Kyiv, and ensure permanent control over “Russian majority” areas in eastern Ukraine, including Crimea, in the context of an “asymmetrical peace” that favours Russia on the long run.
But then again, no military strategy no matter how brilliant survives major war. Wars, especially long wars, have a way of changing established assumptions and desired outcomes. They also cause unintended and dangerous consequences.
Putin’s strategy has already been undermined by at least three wrong assumptions about Russian military capability and modernisation, Ukrainian capacity and willingness for resistance, and Western unity and determination to punish Russia.
Regardless of whether the Russian invasion is “on schedule” or not, Russia has already paid a higher price militarily, economically and diplomatically than it originally anticipated.
And now that the Kremlin’s hopes for a swift end to the war has evaporated, the White House is digging in for a long-term conflict to weaken and destabilise Russia, regardless of how ambitious or limited its war objectives.
President Biden has clearly made the decision to raise the stakes with Russia, committing to arming the Ukrainians come what may.
This is a recipe for disaster. It will needlessly prolong the conflict, causing further suffering and destruction in Ukraine. And it could also widen the scope of the war well beyond Ukraine, conventionally or otherwise.
Russian threats to hit NATO military aid convoys to Ukraine could drag in the neighbours and lead to major escalation involving Western forces.
Historically, great powers like Russia and the US have proven unwilling or incapable of ending wars even when they knew they couldn’t win, such as in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. In every single one of these wars, fearing the loss of political legitimacy and strategic prestige, great powers persisted in fighting recklessly and at great cost to themselves and their victims.
In that way, Putin’s threat of “consequences greater than any you have faced in history” in retaliation to NATO meddling in Ukraine, could only be understood as a nuclear threat.
This necessitates an urgent third option: an internationally sanctioned peace process.
With Europe fully mobilised behind the US, and the UN totally paralysed, this global threat to world peace and security should, at the very least, shake China out of its passivity to take up its international responsibility as an aspiring great power.
As the only permanent member of the UN Security Council not directly involved in the war, China has every interest in shaping the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine considering its strategic and political ramifications on China’s own future in Asia and beyond.
Time has run out on China’s strategy of buck-passing when it comes to global matters; it is time to get serious.
Beijing has neither condemned nor defended the Russian invasion and abstained during the voting on Russia at the UN throughout the conflict. China therefore continues to have more leverage with Russia and more diplomatic freedom of manoeuvre than any other influential global player. It also has greater clout than all other aspiring mediators to mediate a ceasefire and potential peace accord between Russia and Ukraine.
Although, sadly, Beijing has no experience in such a role, it has proven a quick learner, and has much to gain from being a major arbiter in the Global North. Its constructive, albeit secondary, role in negotiating the Iran nuclear deal was an important first step.
Hopefully, and as importantly, playing the role of international peacemaker could help moderate China’s own approach towards Taiwan and others.
President Biden may be right to ask President Xi Jinping to not assist the Russian invasion, but he should also ask him to pressure Russia into a diplomatic settlement.
China must move now and move quickly if it is to have any major influence over the two parties that remain willing to talk peace despite the escalating violence. But it needs not move alone.
Forming an international quartet or sort, that includes the likes of Germany, Turkey and the UN, might go a long way in convincing both Moscow and Kyiv to get serious about peace.
As the war escalates, time is of the essence to restore peace before it is too late.

Russia and China are the only two countries that have the capacity to challenge the West, militarily and economically. The West needed the opportunity to stop the growth of Russian military and economy. Now they have the opportunity. They are using the conflict in Ukraine to weaken Russia. They keep send two important weapon to Ukraine (anti-tank & anti-aircraft). These weapons will make it difficult for Russia to have a quick victory in Ukraine. Also, they have levelled harsh SANCTIONS on Russia with the aim of crippling Russian ability to fund the war and damage her economy. China needs Russia more than Russia needs it. Bro! Always do your findings before posting information online.
The US has two defense systems that are primarily designed to neutralise ICBM (strategic missile).
They are:-
1. Ship based AEGIS defense system 2. Ground-Based Midcourse Defense
Russia answer to ICBM are A-135 anti-ballistic missile system, A-35 anti-ballistic missile system and the S-550. Israel has Arrow 3, and Indian has Prithvi Defence Vehicle Mark-II.
The Patriot and THAAD are designed primarily to neutralise tactical missile. Likewise the david sling, S-300, S-400 e.t.c |

Stormtrooper11: The j-16 is not for sale. The Egyptians cancelled their order of the Russian built Su-35 because of CAATSA sanctions. Presently, we can't buy Russian fighter aircraft because of the Ukrainian invasion. Even before the invasion, it's difficult to purchase Russian equipment due to sanctions. In fact, presently 5 MI 35m purchased by the Nigerian Air force are still stuck in Russia because of the sanctions. Trade with Russia is banned.
It's difficult to buy American equipment. They're expensive, takes long-term to deliver. Right now, 12 Ah-1z supercobra gunships purchased by the Nigerian Air force have been delayed by the United States. We're not in the good books of the United States, especially when they are under a Democrat party administration. We could only get the Super Tucanos because Donald Trump, a republican allowed it.
The best plane we can get right now, is the Chinese J-10C. We could get em if we want em. But the Nigerian Air force hierarchy probably have their eyes on the Jf17 block 3 cos we already operate the block 2. Egypt received some SU-35. |

The US (the West) war doctrine is to defeat the enemy before invasion. Impose sanctions to kill the enemy ability to fund the war. Impose arms embargo to stop the enemy from buy additional weapon. Then after all these are put in place, they launch the invasion. US did this to Iraq and despite the arms embargo and sanctions impose on Iraq, they still lost a lots of aircrafts and tanks. This is the reality of war. Ukrainian military is far stronger than the Iraqis military defeated by the US. Now imagine the situation Russia is in. Sanctions are being levelled against Russia on daily basis and Ukraine is being flooded with weapon. So it is going to be difficult. Despite this Russia keep advancing Concerning military strength. It is a fact that you can't compare NATO military strength with Russia. NATO is made up of 30 countries and that is why the war between NATO & Russia wil not be fought with fighter jets and tanks. The war has being restricted to the eastern part of Ukraine. But now Russia has extended it's missile attack to the western part of Ukraine which is very close to Poland. Infact the military base that was hit has hosted several military drills with NATO. Russia warned that weapon supply convoy will be a legitimate target for attack and to back up her threat, she has started attacking targets in the West. The West should think twice before sending military convoy to Ukraine. They should be de-escalating the crisis not escalating it.
Like i mentioned yesterday. NATO is a military alliance on paper and not in reality. The article five (an attack on one is an attack on others) is not going to work in reality. Although it will work as a detterence.
Poland wanted to give Ukraine it's Soviet era fighter jets. The US gave poland the permission to send them to Ukraine. Poland sent the fighter jets to US base in Germany and told the US (the most powerful country in world) to send them to Ukraine. Both the US and Germany refuse to take the responsible of sending the fighter jets to Ukraine. Even the United Kingdom was silent about it. If the Polish government is sure that the alliance will protect Poland, the aircrafts would have been delivered by Poland directly to Ukraine.
All the US & UK needed to do is to re-assure Poland that it's security is guaranteed, rather than passing the responsibility from one NATO member to another. This is a sign of the loopholes in the alliance. A threat of a world war will break the alliance. No country will allow Russia to fire ICBM into it's territory, all in the name of protecting another NATO member. This is a fact.
NATO is powerful. Everyone knows that, as long as they are united. But real threat of a nuclear war will destroy the unity. |

Comradewhy: Against his own benefit? Surrendering to Russia for Putin's own gain? so that Ukraine cannot join NATO. Ukraine cannot join the EU. The Ukraine has to give up all the territory held by the Russians, the removal of the entire elected government including the President, the complete disarmament of the Ukraine, the acceptance of a Putin dictator as puppet as the new leader of the Ukraine, no funding to rebuild what was destroyed, recognition that the Crimea and the so called pro Russian separatist areas are new republics.
In essence, all the lives lost and all the destruction accomplished nothing for the Ukrainians. They would be worse off than ever before and be subservient to Putin including his secret police to root out the traitors who fought against him. Ukraine won’t surrender because , if it does, there will be no Ukraine and it wouldn’t save lives. It would result in a brutal occupation with lethal purges of ‘dissidents’. No way. It is clear that Ukraine can not join NATO, no matter the outcome of the war. Here is the logic. The donbas region is gone already. Even if Russia retreat, she will defend the Donbas with everything necessary. Crimea is long gone. What are the Russians request? 1. De-militarise meaning surrender. Russia don't have enough forces to take the whole Ukraine. Russian forces in Ukraine right now can only destroy it, they can't keep it. Ukraine is the 2nd largest country in Europe. 2. Declare Donbas an independent territory. Russia is in control of about 60% of Donbas region already. The Ukrainians can not take back the whole of the Donbas. 3. Recognise Crimea as part of Russia officially. Crimea is gone already. Ukraine can not get it back. 4. Ban your country from joining NATO and constitutionalise it. This makes sense to me, because if this war drag on. Ukraine will become a failed states like Libya eventually. |

Next time, our govt should save money to buy the Russian made Sukhoi SU-25, SU-27 and other variants of it that we probably would be able to afford. Russian planes are miles cheaper than the ones from the west. JF-17 is not a third generation fighter jet. It is fourth generation fighter jet. SU-25 is a third generation light weight bomber. While SU-27 is probably a fourth generation fighter. Egypt bought SU-35. While Algeria has SU-30. If Nigeria wants to go for Russian fighter jet. I will recommend SU-30 for air superiority and SU-34 for air to ground attack. The US F-16 too is a fantastic fighter. We can as well go for chinese J-16. Others like the SU-35, Rafale, Euro Typhoon & F-15 may be too expensive. |
