The Pentagon postponed a planned test this week of a Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) amid signs of nuclear tensions with Russia. "Today, I want to talk a little bit about something that we are not going to do," Pentagon press secretary John Kirby said during a Wednesday press briefing. "And I want to explain why last weekend, as you saw, President Putin directed a special alert of Russian nuclear forces." Last week, Putin ordered the Russian defense minister and the chief of the military's general staff to put the nuclear deterrent forces in a "special regime of combat duty." The move signals tensions could boil over into a nuclear war. "Now, in this time of heightened tensions, the United States and other members of the international community rightly saw this as a dangerous and irresponsible — and as I've said before — an unnecessary step," Kirby continued. "Both the United States and Russia have long agreed that nuclear employment could have devastating consequences," Kirby added. He noted the two nations recently agreed that nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought. "Such provocative rhetoric and possible changes to nuclear posture involving the most consequential weapons in our respective arsenals is unacceptable," Kirby said. Kirby said Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin has postponed the planned ICBM test "in an effort to demonstrate we have no intention in engaging in any actions that can be misunderstood or misconstrued. "And we did not take this decision lightly, but instead to demonstrate that we are a responsible nuclear power." Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., condemned the Pentagon's decision as "disappointing," describing the ICBM test as "critical to ensure our nuke deterrent stays effective." "Deterrence means projecting strength & resolve – not sacrificing readiness for hollow gestures," the senator added on Twitter. CoronaVirusPro:It is called war. Soldiers and civilians are expected to die for sure. Ukrainian military is far stronger than Iraqis military that was defeated by the US. There no military in the world that will invade Nigeria without loosing soldiers despite our weak military. Engaging a country with a population of 40 million people with less than 200,000 soldiers is not a joke. Weapon are being sent to Ukraine on daily basis. It is Russia against the world. They will even loose more soldiers. Russia is not fighting Ukraine alone. It is fighting the whole world alone. This has never happened in the history of the world. |
SeaTrade:The idea of sanctioning states is to turn citizens against the government by making them suffer. It won't be effective if ordinary citizens are not targeted. They expect the citizens to rise against their government. In the case of Russia. The politicians and the oligarchs have been expecting sanctions targeting them since 2014. So they were prepared. This is an experiment for the West. They have fired all their bullets. If these sanctions fail to destroy Russia. Then it is game over for them. Russia will definitely cut ties with the West and look for partners in South America, Asia and African. The world is big enough to maneuver. Heavy sanctions have been placed on states by the West Cuba, Iran e.t.c and they have failed to yield desired result. Those states (countries) still stand today. |
CoronaVirusPro:You don't expect Putin to abandon the battle field. The worst of all sanctions has been levelled against Russia. Arms are being deployed to Ukraine. It is too late for Putin to call for cease fire. The only compensation for all the trouble brought upon Russia by the West is Kiev. Putin will take Kiev no matter how long it's takes. |
VERDA:The european countries (except Russia and some few countries) are under the influence of the US. None of them is competing with the US. They are working with the US. China on the other side is considered a threat to the US. You need to ask yourself why is China a threat? It is a threat because it is competing with the US. So the US is using everything it gat to bring down China. |
VERDA:This is one of the problem we are facing in the world. People attaching emotion to everything. Is like some people find it hard to comprehend what they read. I highlighted the disadvantages of a unipolar world with example. Where exactly did i mention Russia? |
ken6488:Russia is interested in destroying Ukrainian military totally. |
Frank Gardner BBC Security Correspondent President Putin "would rather decimate Ukraine than have it in the Western camp" says the BBC's Frank Gardner. He told BBC Breakfast, the Russians had so far held back some of their worst weapons but "the gloves are going to come off" in the "second phase" of the invasion. "The difficult balancing act for the West is how to push Putin far enough to punish him for this, to stop this war, but not push him so far that he lashes out and does something really horrendous." Gardner said it was unlikely there was anyone close to Putin advising caution. He said Putin had spent the past two years during the pandemic closeted with advisors planning this attack. Putin "has concentrated power in his hands. No-one is talking to him," Gardner warned. Source:-bbc.com |
Maxymilliano:I am sure when they get to the war front, they will regret their existence on earth. |
WoundedLamb:Most people use common sense to judge the situation in eastern europe rather than do little research to understand what is going on there. Before 2014 and up till now, there are pro-Russians and pro-West in Ukraine. So in 2014, the pro-Russian government was overthrown by the pro-West. The current president Zelenszky was their leader. He became the president and started cracking down on the pro-Russians. TV stations & media houses belonging to the pro-Russians were closed, the owners were arrested. Government critics were areested. Many pro-Russians had to flee the country. In the same year the pro-Russians in different part of Ukraine started demanding for independence. They started carrying arms against the government in different part of the country. In Crimea, Luhansk, Donetsk e.t.c. The same thing happened in Egypt when Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi plotted a coup against the Morsi. Morsi took power when Mubarak was forced to step down by the Egyptians. Morsi an islamist became the president. Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi forcefully remove Morsi and locked him up. Then he started cracking down of the Islamists. Thousands were arrested. Many were killed. (Mohamed Aboutrika) The former Egyptian footballer and former african footballer of the was added to a terror list by his native Egypt for alleged ties to the outlawed Muslim Brotherhood. Russia & Ukraine were good before 2014.

raymondhillmimi:Most people don't hate the US. People want see a world where countries will be treated fairly US invaded Iraq on lies. They lied to the whole world that Iraq has weapon of mass destruction. Iraq has been ruined. Iraqis are suffering now. People don't sympatise with the Iraqis because we have been brainwashed. They tag them terrorists for wanting to take back their country from the US imposed government. Libyans used to be the luckiest people on earth. Gaddafi gave them everything they need. Now Libyans are the most unfortunate people. NATO has destroyed the country completely. The Libyans realise this and attacked the US consolate and killed the US ambassador to Libya. The same thing was done in Yogoslavia, cuba e.t.c. The US forcefully remove government s of sovereign countries and impose new governments on the people. All these astrocities were carried out and not a single sanction was levelled against the US. This is why i don't support a unipolar world. In a unipolar world. There is only one master (US). This one master can do anything that others are not allowed to do. But if we have a multipolar world. The most powerful country on earth (US) can be challenged and call to order. |
Moxil:It is true. Presently the US still import oil from Russia. You can google it. |
NwaNimo1:This kind of action may backfire. The Russians will never stop using phones. Another phone maker will take their place. Russia is a market for apple. Now apple has abandon the market. So if China invades Taiwan in the future, the international community will expect apple to do the same. They will be forced to abandon a market of more than one billion people. |
victorsola:Of course you don't expect this to be work over, since weapon are being poured into Ukraine. |
Svlla:The Ukrainian pilot will not be able to fly the Western fighter jets. They can only fly soviet era fighter jets like Mig-29 & SU-27. |

omale88:The news says no long ago, we reported that ... |
omale88: omale88:Lol! It was reported. Try and scroll down. The thing is there is a lots of propaganda going on. And sometimes is like the Ukrainians are confused. Zelenszky at some point said he was ready to talk about neutrality with the Russians and later he said they will defend the country. There was a time UK said Russian has lost 450 soldiers. Ukraine its 1000 plus. I think when the war is over. We shall know the truth. |
Siwisheswereesh:The troops came in from Belarus. Some of Ukraineian troops are held up in Donbass by the seperatists and Russian force.. Some are held up in Kharkiv. The troops in other places will not abandon the frontline for Kiev. |
omale88:https://www.bbc.com/news/live/world-europe-60542877 Just visit bbc.com and look for it. They give update on the every few mins. So you may need to scroll down. |
Siwisheswereesh:According to the mayor. Nothing can go in and nothing can go out. Which mean the Russians may not attack. As it is now supply (food & weapon) can not go in. It is a big deal. The same tactics was used in Syria to retake several cities. THe Russians were able to force their way into Kiev. The city defenders couldn't stop them. So they gain entrance into while awaiting re-enforcements. They city defenders had to abandon their defense line outside the city & went into the city to engage the Russians. Russian re-enforcements came from different directions and the troops inside city retreated. The Ukrainians thought they had successful repel the Russian, not knowing it was a tactics to send them into the city and surround them from all sides. |
Siwisheswereesh:Russia can not occupy the entire country. A country that has population of 40 million people can not be occupy with 150000 troops. It is impossible. They Russians have mapped out key cities in Ukraine. Kiev, Odesa, Mariopol, Kharkiv e.t.c, without these cities.l, there is no Ukraine. They intend to seize these cities. But Kiev is the most important. Taliban was able to bounce because the US didn't occupy the entire Country. |
The bulk of Russian forces have not engaged yet. The Russians thought with few troops they can take key locations in the country and hold them till their main forces move in to occupy cities. But this tactics didn't work. Now they have re-stratigies. Kiev Kyiv) has been encircled. Nothing can go in and nothing can go out. No weapon can go in. The Russians will continue to carry out missile and air strikes on the city till they are comfortable that the bulk of their forces can go in and occupy the city successful. |
Kyiv’s mayor has been speaking to the Associated Press and says the city is now "encircled" by Russian forces. Vitali Klitschko was asked whether there were plans to evacuate civilians should Russian troops seize the capital. “We can’t do that, because all ways are blocked,” he said. “Right now we are encircled.” Air raids have been sounding in the city as residents face another night under the threat of air strikes. obedience4:You welcome bro! Also, both US and Russia have ground based radar that can detect ICBM when fired from anywhere in the world. Apart from ground base radar. The US AEGIS defense systems is equipped a very powerful radar which can also detect ballistic missiles. The AEGIS systems are strategically placed in Europeans water and Asia. The AEGIS is expected to shot down ICBM. The Russians claim the S-400 can shot down ICBM. But they have other systems that are specifically designed to shot down ICBM. Systems like S-550 are designed for this. The US and Russia are far ahead of other countries in terms of effectively delivering nuclear weapon to enemy's territory/territories. And also effectively defend themselves again ICBM, atleast on paper. But both have issues with cruise missiles. Cruise missile is a nightmare to all defense systems & that is the major reason why Putin does not want it's country to be sorrounded by NATO. Although Russia has advantage over the West in the use of tactical nuclear weapon, mainly because it has hypersonic missiles (Zircon & Kinzhal missiles). But the US is working day and night on it own hypersonic missile program and sooner or later, the US will field it's own hypersonic Missiles. Putin is not really a mad man. He can see what most people can't. The baltic states are not a problem for Putin. Russia can take them out within minutes in a major conflict. But if Ukraine, Finland & Sweden join NATO. Then they will be too much to handle for Russia. The super powers are playing some politics that people no nothing about. The US & allies are trying to put themselves in a position that will give them advantage over Russia in a major conflict (nuclear war) & Putin knows this. |
wingmanIII:I still don't know why the Russians have decided not to use their best military equipments. Fighter jets like SU-35 ,SU-30 & the very big SU-34 have not been used. The likes of SU-35 & SU-30 can comfortably protect the SU-25 bomber from being shot down. Likewise the helicopters. Tanks like the T-90 has not been used. The Russians are using mainly the old T-72 tanks. SU-34 can carry twice the payload of SU-25. It also has air-air capabilities. Also bombers like TU-22m can be used to take out bulk of Ukrainian soldiers & equipments at once. Gunship like MI-28 night hunters will be very effective if they can use it. May be the Russians underestimate the Ukrainians. Putin has invaded and there is no going back. He will definitely get what he want. But at what cost? |
obedience4:Russia also possesses a nuclear "triad," meaning it's able to deploy its nuclear arsenal through land, sea, and air. This is done through intercontinental ballistic missiles, sea-launched ballistic missiles, and strategic bombers. Russia has 10 or more Ballistic Missile Submarine. The US is also a known nuclear TRIAD country. Only the US & Russia have nuclear TRIAD capabilities. China is also working hard to a have its own Nuclear TRIAD. Presently it deliver its nuclear weapons via land and sea. France can only deliver its nuclear weapons via aircraft (Dassault Rafale fighter jet and submarines). The country's Dassault Rafale fighter jet can deploy a nuclear weapon with a warhead 20 times the size of the bomb dropped on Hiroshima. If the warhead of that size were to drop over Washington, DC, it would result in some 280,000 casualties, according to Nuclear Secrecy's calculations. UK can only deliver nuclear weapons through the sea only (Nuckear-Powered Ballistic Missile Submarine). The has just four Ballistic Missile Submarines. India can deliver it's own nuclear arsenal via land & sea. Likewise North Korea. Pakistan can do through land and air. |
zigzagluv:The bulk of Russian troops have not engaged yet. |
godliman:Nuclear war will affect everybody. |
