Foreign AffairsUkraine Says Two More Russian Generals Killed by olugabbie(op): 5:00pm On Apr 23, 2022
The Ukrainian military claims to have "eliminated" two more Russian generals during fighting in the south-eastern Kherson region.

A third general from Russia's 49th General Army was said to have been seriously wounded, and a mobile command centre was destroyed, according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence's intelligence update.

Western experts say more Russian generals have been killed in action in Ukraine than in any other conflict since World War II, reflecting a lack of preparation that may require senior officers to put themselves in harm's way.

Earlier, the UK's own defence intelligence suggested that Ukrainian forces were making successful counter attacks, and continuing to frustrate Russian advances in eastern areas.

That's why I said, to what extent? What I know for sure is that some of those assets will definitely go into aiding Ukraine either directly or indirectly. Here is what I mean, some of these assets make profits even while they're under the control of the West pending the outcome of the war and any follow-up negotiations like you said. When such assets worth hundreds of billions appreciate in value, the profit is always tangible. Therefore, the key element here is the time between the seizure and the release of these assets (a year is like day in international relations). That's exactly how finance works. Time is everything. Like I said, the West will try to aid Ukraine and they will not do it all from thier pockets.
Ok

That can not be determined by you. It will be determined by the outcome of the war. Just pray Russia looses. Because, if Donbas and Kharkiv are seized. Then the 22 battalions of the Russian forces stationed in Belarus will go for Kyiv.

Luhansk has been 80% liberated already as at today. Russian troops are also advancing in Kharkiv. Although little gains were recorded in Donetsk.

This is Germany though, not the West. Just like Germany, many other nations have either assisted or pledged to assist the country, some contributions are more than that of Germany. It says the donation is for reconstruction but the question of who will eventually rebuild Ukraine is not yet on the table cause the war is still ongoing and stopping it is the priority. When it's time to rebuild Ukraine, no sane person would expect the West to do that from their reserves (at least, not the entire amount). The expectation is rather something similar to what happened after Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990. Russian assets seized/frozen by the West are definitely going to play a great role in that. The question is, to what extent? I mean, it's very unlikely that the West would just free all Russian assets and pretend the war never happened, don't you think?
They can't use Russian federation assets (especially it's foreign reserved) seized to rebuild Ukraine. They seized assets will be needed for bargaining in the future.

You don't burn bridges they you will eventually need in future. Some Western politicians have mentioned it. But it was down played.

The Tass news agency reported the claim by the country's defence ministry and described the depot as large.

There was no independent verification of the news, although earlier in the day, Ukraine had said that Russian forces were trying to mount an offensive in the area.

In the city of Kharkiv itself, Ukraine said that Russian shells had struck a wedding hall and the main Barabashovo market, causing casualties.

Interestingly, Ukraine will recover very quickly. Do you know that reconstruction works has already started in Kieve? I believe that most European countries and USA will give huge donations to Ukraine for its repair and return to normalcy.

There is also the possibility of compelling Russia to pay war reparations as a condition for ending the economic sanctions against it.

David may yet beat Goliath again!

But , do you know that Ukraine has forever earned the Respect of Russia?
Never again will Russia underate Ukraine again.

There is nothing special about the defenders. They survive till this day because of the support the are getting from the West. Ukraine started receiving weapon from the West in 2014. The West promise Russia that it will make the war costly for her and this is what is happening now.

1. I actually didn't anticipate I'd have to breakdown advancing democracy in eastern European context to kindergarten level . . . you totally got the interpretation wrong.
And honestly, I shouldn't be having this discussion with you, if I have to come down to that level.

2. Russia has always been a threat to all her neighbors -- and it's been this way for centuries. Reasons why Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, and Poland all sharing borders with Russia joined NATO. Same reason Finland (I'll intentionally skip Finland's past suffering in the hands of Russia) and Sweden are set to join NATO any moment soon. Of all her neighbors, Ukraine is the least likely to be admitted into NATO 'cause it has present territorial disputes, which makes it totally unacceptable into NATO.

3. Ironically, Russia aligned and signed pact with NATO as far back as 1997 to partner with NATO.

4. If only you did read the entire original post and fact-check the points raised, you'd be in a better position to have an intellectual/factual discuss, but you didn't, which is a given around these parts: emotions over facts.
When the baltic states joined NATO, Russia was not a threat to them. Russia was extremely weak militarily and economically. The only thing Russia had then was Nuclear weapon.

After the dissolution of the USSR, all the states (including Russia) that emerged from the fall of the Soviet Union were extremely poor. The baltic states needed help and that was why they join EU & NATO.

Russia on the other hand was saved by Putin. He brought Russia out of the mess and made Russia super power once again. Today Russia is a energy, technology and military super power.

Putin invaded Ukraine because it was showing progress and advancement as a democratic country and moving towards advancing as a modern industrialized country. He couldn’t have that on his doorstep.

Why? Not because of any security threat. No one wants to invade Russia. No, it’s because he couldn’t stand the Russian people seeing the rise in standard of living that the Ukraine was going to see. He couldn’t stand for his people to see how much more pleasant living in a free and democratic country would be.

Once they saw those things, they would demand the same.

NATO expansion had nothing to do with it (Russia already shares borders with NATO or within NATO's reach, and taking Ukraine would only bring NATO closer to Russia anyway). Just like it had nothing to do with his invasions of other countries either.

Russia has limited warm water ports, and a navy that’s near collapse with no more than a dozen fully functional capital ships, a half dozen attack submarines, and eight modern missile submarines. It’s air force has few gen 5 fighters.

Russia has basically zero capability to mount expeditionary warfare (as we see in Ukraine). The logistics system is badly designed, rife with the same corruption issues, and largely only capable of defensive war.

Russia’s biggest enemy though isn’t the US or NATO. It’s Russia's own paranoia combined with the attitude of a schoolyard bully. Russia was welcomed by the west back in the 1990’s. Today, Russia could be like a combination of Poland and Norway -- even better had it wanted to be.

A nation with rich natural resources slowly working to throw off the legacy of communism, but it chose a different route: It chose to be an asshole to her neighbors and then wonder why people don’t like them anymore.

Russia's eternal (Russia's been taking her neighbors' territories for centuries) covetousness for her neighbors' territories, the all-year-round navigable ports of Ukraine, the oil and gas in Crimea and eastern Ukraine, land connection and water to Crimea after illegally annexing same in 2014, amongst many other things is driving this madness.

Ukraine has never been a DEMOCRATIC state under Zelenszky. Zelenszky is an authoritarian leader, just like Putin.

Do your own research.
Foreign AffairsRe: Putin Knows How To Frighten Them. by olugabbie(m): 10:20pm On Apr 21, 2022
ariesbull:
Two days ago, Biden had a conference call with Johnson, Trudeau, Macron, Scholz, Draghi, Duda, Iohannis, Ursula von der Leyen, Charles Michel, Kishida and Stoltenberg about Russia's Special operation in Ukraine. These are the people Putin is fighting in Ukraine, not Zelensky and his toy soldiers.

You don't need to be told what the meeting was all about - Ukraine is melting away despite the West pouring in over $15B worth of arms, psyops, massive propaganda across all media (social & tradititional), Intelligence and communications gathering against Russian troops and their logistics via spy satellites & drones, unprecedented sanctions against any country in the history of the world, cancel culture, blanket ban against Russians, including those in individual sport (Tennis), and openly bullying of other countries, namely China, India, Pakistan, Hungary etc. Yet, Russia's certain victory is what it is - certain!

They came to the realisation that only boots on ground can deter Russia's victory. NATO has over 30K combat-ready troops in the Baltic States alone, ready to be deployed at a moment notice. That was what the call was all about.

To avoid them believing in their propaganda and lies that Russia's nuclear weapons are obsolete, therefore won't fire when needed (I have read this from many Western 'experts'), so yesterday, a day after the call, Putin showed them that propaganda is not reality by revealing what ICBM can do.

Russia test-fired the new RS-28 SARMAT (NATO calls it SATAN II) intercontinental ballistic missile. It has a maximum range of 18,000 km (Moscow to NYC is 7,506 km), maximum speed of 20.7 MACH (25,560 km/h or 7.1 km/s), can carry 10-15 warheads, each with a capacity of up to 750 kilotons, capable of wiping out an entire country at one go and unstoppable by any known air defense system in the world

The missile hit a target 6, 000 km from its launched site. Guess what Putin said after the test? "The missile will provide food for thought for those who try to threaten Russia."

Since yesterday, everywhere has been calm. Even Germany said it no longer sending heavy weapons to Ukraine. The West should tell its lackeys in Ukraine to negotiate in good faith, so as to end the proxy war, otherwise Ukraine would be added to the WhatsApp group of Syria, Libya, Yemen, Afghanistan and Iraq.

Putin doesn't lose a war because he gives his military, achievable objectives, and also explain to them how he can take care of any external impediment. We saw it in Chechnya, Georgia, Syria, Crimea and now Ukraine. As we've seen, the only impediment in Ukraine is NATO troops on ground, and he's making sure that such doesn't happen.

The world is standing on a precipice, the warmongers should look up the meaning of the word - caution - in the dictionary!

Ukraine is staying in the fight because of the support it is getting. This is a country of 40 million population. If just 10% of that population (4 million) decide to stay and fight. Then it will be extremely difficult for the invaders. Russian troops in Ukraine is less than 500,000. No matter their capabilities, it will be difficult to conquer Ukraine.

In addition, the West is pouring weapon worth of billions of dollar into Ukraine. Ukraine being the defender has enough man power already approximately 4 million fighters, with the weapon they are getting from the West, then it will be difficult for any Super power to conquer Ukraine in this kind of circumstance.

Before US go to war with any country. The first thing they do is to strangle the country's ability to fund the war through economic sanctions. Then they place arms embargo on the country to kill it's ability to import arms during the war. When all these are achieved, then they send in their troops. But Russia is facing the opposite. Ukraine is being armed. Infact, they started arming Ukraine since 2014 and sanctions started raining on Russia around that time.

So instead of mocking the Russians. You should be praising them. No country in the West will choose to fight under this harsh circumstances, not even the US.

But they can still win. If they can take Donbas and Kharkiv, then it is game over for Ukraine.
Foreign AffairsRe: Putin's Puppet Followers Are So Disappointed Now by olugabbie(m):

Putin wanted to "demilitarise and denazify" the entire Ukraine. Now he has changed his plan to taking over only the Donbas, which with time, Ukraine will advance and wipe them off, maybe that time they'll only fight to occupy one plot of land in Mariupol and call it "successful".

So disappointed... He underrated the US and NATO!
There are still 22 battalions of Russian troops currently stationed in Belarus close to Kyiv. The Russian troops currently in Ukraine are trying to capture the entire Donbas and Kharkiv. If they succeeded. Russia will not stop. They will likely go for Kyiv, using the troops in Belarus and also Odesa using the troops in Crimea, Kherson & Mariupol.

It is a fact that the US has successfully keep Ukraine in the fight. The weapon, intelligence e.t.c provided by US for the Ukranians are really effective. But Russia can still win. If they can encircle the Ukranians troops in Donbas. Then it is game over for Ukraine. The troops in Donbas are the most elite Ukrainian troops. If Russia destroys them, then the de-militarisation of Ukraine is close to being achieved.

Let us say this is a propaganda. But what does common sense says? You can arm a group in a war. But tracking the weapon given such group can not be tracked.

Libya is a very good example. Also imagine what happened in Afghanistan. The US left billions of dollar worth of weapon behind when they fled the country.

But not when the US go all out to say NO. They can't just run back at once, they need better excuse to back off and a plan to maintain their stands which they're doing already.
It is unacceptable to any super power to surrounded by it adversary/adversaries. Russia can not lose in Ukraine. Although the West won't bend too. But if the sanctions begin to bite and Russian troops start to fall apart in Ukraine. They will use nuclear weapon.

The major issue Russia is facing in Ukraine is lack of man power. They have the equipments. But lack troops that can be poured in Ukraine. The Ukrainians have enough man power but no military equipments. Although the West is filling the void but its not enough.

Russia can not loose.

This is incorrect. Like i always say, in international community. There is no permanent enemy and no permanent friend. The likes of Iran and Venezuela used to be enemies of the West. Now the US needs them to counter Russia. The sanctions imposed on them are being lifted.

Russia is not a major threat to the US. US should be worry about China. China has the capacity to dispose the US as the most powerful country in the world. Sooner or later, the West will know this and when it's time to counter China. They will call upon India and Russia. For them counter China growth effective. They need both India & China on their side.

Some people think Russia needs China more. But i strongly believe that China needs Russia more. China's military and economic growth will be challenged by the West at some point. So when that happen and sanctions start to fly. China will need a relaible supplier (Russia) of energy to support it's massive factories and population. The US can force most of the oil producing states to stop selling oil and gas to China. But they can't stop Russia from selling oil and gas to China.

To counter China, Russia must be on their side.

North Korea is banking on sacrificing her citizens

Kim do not care since its a sacred duty for them to defend him to death

North Korea and South Korea is just like staying in a glass house while your neighbour who stays in mud house wants both you to throw stones

Only reason South Korea do not have nuclear weapon is because USA said nope

But google "Korean Massive Punishment and Retaliation (KMPR)"

Any move by Kim to fire a nuclear weapon on South Korea will be met with a very decisive bombardment

of course, remove nuclear weapon and North Korea will be decimated by South Korea
What most people don't know is that the ability to protect your territory from both internal & external aggressor is the number function of a leader.

If North korea decides to invade the South Korea today, the West may not send troops to the Island (SK) to defend it. Irrespective of the military agreement between the US and South Korea. Because the primary responsibility of the US leaders is to protect their own citizens from any form of destruction FIRST. This may not be achieved by directly confronting North Korea in a war (Nuclear war).

So the economic growth and the development South Korea has enjoyed over the years, can be destroyed within weeks and months in a war with North Korea. Security first and any other things (economic development e.t.c) can follow.

North Korea nuclear weapon is not really a threat to South Korea or the US. Because NK can not defeat the US in a nuclear war. And i dont think they will use it against SK. But it nuclear capability represents security guaranty for the Koreans (NK). No country will dare invade the country. The security guaranty is what the Iranians are seeking too and not to destroy Israel like they make you believe. Because every party is a loser in a nuclear war.
