According to what I heard and all going on in the video, was that they were hazardous materials.
Hazardous materials have a specific list. Even in the nurse report she said sharps were left behind. Which is a discrepancy from what the doctors said. According to the doctors only waste matter was left behind. Anyhoo I think this trend is fast becoming one of hate and unnecessary slandering. Nursing is a respectable profession and one that is vital. No one is disputing this. So mutual ward respect is key. This trend is specific to the occurrence that occurred and the nurse on duty was wrong for her actions no matter how it is looked at. Could all parties have handled it more maturely; yes. Could the fact that they were both women play a big role in how things turned out; yes.

Sorry and who are you? And which village are you from. Because where I am from we do not hate success. If you know what the average education of further medical training entails you won't be so estatic, condescending and myopic.

A doctor is also part of a medical team. Can you work on your own? Why do you go to great lengths to train quacks to work for you if you can do everything on your own? In primary health centres, public health nurses diagnose patients and treat them. So it all depends on what your job is. In US, Nurse practitioners diagnose and treat patients. And normally, as Nurses, we have Nursing diagnosis that we use and write for patients to take care of them in the ward. So what are you saying?
A doctor can clerk, treat, support and post monitor a patient. Only a doctor on the ground is allowed for standard requirements but if a hospital has only a nurse on duty during working hours with no justable cause it can be sanctioned. Once again I didn't create the delegation of duties, hate it or love it. It doesn't change this role. Nairaland is faceless, go to a hospital setting and make these claims not here.

A nurse practitioner is different. You need to go to post grad school and do a separate licence for that. In Nigeria there is nothing like a nurse practitioner.

Seems you're ignorant of how clinical practice works worldwide. A Nurse is NOT a doctor's assistant. Each has his or her job to do. If a doctor wants to set an IV line, he can do it himself and if he can't, he will politely ask the nurse to help him. It is not a Nurse's duty to cut plaster for a doctor. She can only assist if the doctor requires it. Nurses have their jobs to do on the ward, not to follow doctors about when they are doing their own work. Nollywood movies and the quack nurses trained by doctors you see in private hospitals have clouded your senses
Where did you train? Everyone should work with pride. I personally have respect for all members of the health team. Scrubbing and discarding of waste (except sharps and hazards) after a procedure is universally that of the nursing team. This includes monitoring the patient and if the procedure was done in the theatre wheeling the patient back to the wards. It is a job done with pride in saner nations. But in Nigeria people like this sister here see it as deregulatory and demeaning.

The hierarchy that exists in Medicine should be amongst doctors. Doctors are not bosses to Nurses. It's better you get that right now. They are colleagues. What a doctor can do , a nurse may not be able to do, and what a Nurse can do, a doctor cannot do. A Nurse cannot spend five years in the university plus one year internship and expect her to be an errand girl for one doctor. If a procedure is not a Nurses procedure, it is not part of one's duty. There are clear cut duties for every medical professional, and cleaning up after doctors is not a part of Nurses procedure.
A nurse is part of a medical team. Can you work on your own? Can you diagnose a patient? Then what are you saying. Except you know what you are saying this is no argument here.

The link has nothing to do with what the issue at hand.
According to WHO it states that every hazardous object should be discarded by the person who generated it, be it a nurse or a doctor.

Then in the western world, I know some female nurses who are theatre nurses, that says they don't experience what Nigerian nurses are experiencing, that every surgeon discards and clears the operating table after surgery.
Though some forget, and they call their attention to it, and they apologize and do the right then.

You all should do the right then, and stop these it's not in my job description
That was not hazardous substances. The doctors stated that they discarded all sharps. What is left is materials for scrubbing. Guaze, blood and so on. There is nothing hazardous about it. It is because the doctor in question was a house officer, I know how nurses try to use their might on young doctors as pay back. Why not lock up a reg or consultant. What she did was wrong on every level plain and simple. Only in Nigeria.

Half baked doctor. I hold an undergrad from Lagos, post grad in surgery in the UK and a surgery fellowship in Australia where i currently live and work. Introduce yourself. Because we are on nairaland is no excuse to be ignorant. Go and learn what medicine is all about and the tree of medical command. I didn't create it and neither did you. That matron I am sure did not have a bachelors. Maybe went to nursing school and advanced her career. Even nurses with a bachelors still receive directions from doctors. If you don't like it or understand it next time you have an emergency surgery have a nurse attend to you. This is not berating of any profession but in health a chain of command exists. Educate yourself please.

Doctors have some responsibility in disposing biohazardous material
Why should someone be employed to "clean up after doctors"
Is anyone employed to wipe people's asses when they use toilets?
If you use a face mask you should dispose it yourself. If you use sharps you should discard appropriately.
I am not commenting on the incident above because I do not think we have all the facts but employing cleaner to clean up after doctors is a bizarre suggestion
Disposal of biohazardous material is a serious matter with all round responsibility and doctors have a key role in this effort; not leaving biological/hazardous material about creating risks to other staff and patients
I am a doc. This is unacceptable not because of hierarchy but locking that door is imprisonment of a health professional in the discharge of her duty. For the entire ARD to strike they know what happened is bad. Now back to the life long nurse doctor discord. Whether this nurse like it or not, hierarchy exists in medicine. Even if a doctor has only spent one day in the profession, a doctor is always head. It is like the military. This hierarchy exists because there needs to be a clear line of command obedience to save lives. Now to the question of who cleans up after a surgery. Theatre nurses are called scrub nurse for a reason. They are in charge of basic set up before the surgery, assisting in handing instruments and cleaning afterward, or delegating to their nursing assistants. Simple and plain. The matron needs to be sanctioned and anywhere in the world the same will follow. And charges can even be pressed against her for imprisonment in sane environments.
Christianity EtcRe: Let The Dead Bury The Dead (What Jesus Actually Meant?) by olusegxz: 11:52am On Jun 19, 2022
This is a very deep verse in the bible. And like most verses in the bible have more than more meaning because the bible is alive it is not a book with just one unilateral dimension meaning hence why teachings differ sometimes, in most times neither is wrong or right. So application of verses are specific to what they are used for. Eg the verse seek ye first the kingdom of God. I remember in uni then we had a student who instead of reading a night to exams he will be doing all night virgil. Now that is not bad but ofcourse he failed. The scripture is alive meaning its relevance is directly attached to what it is used for. So this verse Jesus did not mean don't bury your father or don't spend time with unbelievers. It means as a Christian you need to be able to manage your time and your self, so you can do what needs to be in the physical in such a way that your spiritual walk is not affected otherwise the dead will have to bury the dead. If you do not do things at the right time then it will also affect your spiritual life. In this case the man wanted to give buring his father as an excuse to not do the work of God, the moral here is he should not replace the work of God but find a way to have done that and still do the work of God. He should have properly assessed a period to do that, that would not affect his walk with God otherwise someone else will do it, a someone else that may not exist. And this applies with other things in our lives also.

Let me advise you, first of all Congratulations, nothing bad about pregnancy, do not abort just accept her with the pregnancy because if you abort it, it will surely hunt you in the future. Now let me give one secret advice as you say her parent be deeper, I fear oo yawa go dey but the solution is not hard but the outcome dey wicked if something goes wrong...discuss with the girl and tell her she needs to hide and pretend to be kidnaped, let her stay like a week or two then go back home and lie that she was raped, when she returned, if her parent knows you before go there and visit her so later when they discovered she is pregnant and are angry just take style to tell them not to do that and that you will take care of her and maybe tell them someone needs a child and she can give the baby to her. Also, let them know you can take her far away from church people during her pregnancy period and after delivery till she is fully recovered. They will later know you both planned it but you will surely be free then when all have died down...best of luck.
Emmmm this is not living in bondage part 4. It's real life biko.
HealthRe: Just Got Someone Pregnant... Advise Needed by olusegxz:
I don't have the answers so I will only give a passing advise.

1. Do you love her. I assume you do since you have been together for 2 years. While people will say otherwise love is key. I ask this because why are you here talking about abortion or not when you should be talking about marriage. You are NOT too young to marry is neither is she. Sit your mom down first explain to her, tell your mom you love her and want to marry her. She will tell your dad. Both of them will now meet her parents and promise her education will continue. They will rather she is married then born out of wedlock.

2. You don't love her. Well this one follows the same advise except if you don't love her don't marry her. Explain to your parents still. Let them see her parents and promise to take care of the child. And that her education would NOT be affected.

3. Well the two above are the two candid advise I have. I am a doctor and I can tell you that any termination has side effects. Especially for her. It can affect her future fertility if drugs are used and other complications if a curettage is used. But and this is a but, let your parents, her parents and both of you all meet and decide what's best. Let the decision come from her parents and her. Under no circumstances and I repeat no circumstances should you do anything without both parents knowing. Do not use any cheap drugs to induce abortion in her and a properly done medical procedure in a top standard clinic if that is the collective decision will cost nothing less than N300,000 (which I know you may not have). A good clinic is vital for her mental health afterwards because she may never forget. That she is early does not mean, abortion is still abortion. A standard place will include proper counselling and all. So it is essential that both parents are involved. But as I said if you love her, marry her and let your parents help until you graduate. It's time to be a man, the time to be enjoying free kitty is over. Good luck.

I believe it's over now. Tinubu has shown us what politics is about. Someone said politics is telling someone to go to hell in such a way that they look forward to it. If you know you know. When Tinubu ranted the other day he knew he had bagged this primary but he did it to expose Osinbajo and Buhari. He is definitely coming for them. Because the truth is he put two of them there.

This is why in politics loyalty is number one. Considering someone hand picked you, someone who never spent a dime to lobby for position and got VP on a platter of gold. The north now deceived you that they will pick you and you betrayed your benefactor. Naa even though I know Tinubu is not our answer na for this sole reason I want him to win at least this APC primary, election is another matter. But except something different, unprecedented and out of our character as Nigerians of voting for money, and using political thuggery, Tinubu will win that one too. Tinubu single handedly pretty much created this party and they almost pushed him out. Well it's not over till its over but osinbajo can do the needful and retrace his steps. Tinubu picked him because he trusted the guy for years so that betrayal go pain am pass anything. And tinubu no dey forgive see ambode political career is ruined forever even though he worked. EducationRe: Doctor Who Witnessed Sylvester Oromoni's Autopsy Speaks (Video) by olusegxz:
As a doctor I have some pressing questions and observations.

1. The school said they have a hospital 3 minutes away. When the nurse in the sick bay saw that the 'wound' was getting worse why was he not taken to the hospital and the parents called from there. It is better to err on the side of an emergency than to treat a student injury with kid gloves and then it becomes a catastrophe like this. I remember vividly back in my secondary schools days in Adesoye college once the sick bay feels they can't handle your case they send you to the appointed hospital immediately. What do they want parents in benin to do about a sick child in Lagos over the phone. Error number 1 from the school.

2. Now some people may dispute this but the narrative about drinking a poisonous substance killed this case. Bullying is bullying. It is not until someone drinks something that the person was bullied. Once that narrative came in all they need to do is to find a poisonous substance in the tissue during autopsy. It can't be hidden. They should have simply stuck to a narrative of bullying or intimidation and not poisoning. I believe he was bullied but he could not have been poisoned. If he was poisoned he won't even make the journey from benin to Lagos.

3. Conclusion on this case. Yes sadly this boy died of septiceamia but the real question is was it really from football? When was the football incident and who was there to verify. For septiceamia to occur injury has to be deep and exposed and there would have been marked pus and the leg would be swollen remarkably. Yes the leg was swollen but what caused it. Was he kicking stone. Even as a doctor this is the first time I am hearing playing football lead to an injury that caused a whole septiceamia. A healthy boy. That rate of spread is usually seen in diabetes patients or patients with very low immunity. Did he have low white blood cells or what. Was he leukaemic. What other underlying diseases did they find that warranted this huge diagnosis. A boy with active white blood cells that should kill the infection in 2 or 3 days. Something is not right. Since they said it is septiceamia from the ankle they need to seriously probe how football caused that or that was just what he said to the school. How are they sure that he wasn't beaten or as some seniors do then will try to rake you down from your ankle and warn you that if you fall you are done. I don't know but except the ball is stone which kind injury caused septiceamia with multiple organ failure like that.

I just have to rant. RIP this case really made me sad. Everyone from the school, to the parents, to the hospital he was that didn't detect the septiceamia, to even all of us. Failed this boy. A young boy like that should not die a very painful death like that. The police think because he was not poisioned case closed. What about the cuts on his head why was that not probed. There are many things that could have happened that would not necessary show evidently during an autopsy. Autopsy tell the findings not how they got there. They need to find things to query and not say oh he was not bullied he died natural. That septiceamia from ankle injury if it was caused by a deliberate act to cause injury from bullying then it is not natural. For example if someone is slapped, you can lose your tooth and that can cause a cyst, that can later become a cystic tumour that can lead to death. Just from a slap. If they do autopsy do they think they will see anything that will show it was a slap that started it? They will say it was a dentigerous cyst. And that will conclude the autopsy. That leg was an injury nursed for a long time and autopsy would not show what started it conclusively. So in that case it should be a case of his word against theirs this is a circumstancial case and they are hard to prove. Any form of trauma to the body should be queried. The ankle injury should be queried extensively. Stop lieing to us it was football. They should probe the football event we want to know when it happened and all the people who were there. If it's true other students who were there would have come out to say so and explain the terrible injury he had that caused all this.

Honestly black races is a very special being. Everything about us is disorganized.
You don't know what you saying. Indian men are the worst because the women pay dowry to marry men. Men feel too entitled even in their marriages. Also there is mercy killing, women endure all the domestic issues in foreign land and never air their dirty linen so nobody knows, they fear repercussions back home. Google mercy killing. I know a girl who threatened to divorce the husband, he used style to take her to india for holiday and killed her. No joke. Up till now the man is still alive because they said he is mental but within their tribe they accepted it was mercy killing. No trip o. The lady was a dentist google it. HealthRe: The Doctors Want To Amputate My Mum's Leg. Advice Needed by olusegxz: 12:23pm On Nov 06, 2021
I understand your concerns and please accept our empathy. As a medical professional there are a few things you should note. 1. What is the expertise of the consultant handling the case. 2. What hospital are you and where. Equipment of the facility is key to maintain blood in the leg it's super expensive. 3. Most importantly what is your financial capability. Whatever you decide, you need to act fast. Getting a second professional opinion is allowed in medicine. You need to find a top endocrinologist and an orthopedic to do an urgent review. Usually DM complications can be severe but treatable using surgical debridement but post surgical healing is an issue. In Nigeria except you are in a top hospital they won't have the equipment to keep blood flowing to her extremities so the standard is to ask you to cut the leg to save her life. If you are financially constrained or can't raise up to 15m to take her abroad then amputate. Don't waste money doing debridement here some private hospitals may suggest this but as she is DM this surgery and post recovery is too complex. Even our president goes abroad where they have well equipped facilities. So my advise 1. Get A quick second opinion in Nigeria for your conscience (They will say amputate). 2. Amputate here in Nigeria (Do it in a tertiary facility with proper post care). 3. Take her to Germany or suggested referrals they are best in doing debridement as most of their citizens have DM. Good luck and God will heal her but do your part and let Him do the rest. That's how God works.
CareerRe: I Need A Career Advice On Which Country To Travel To by olusegxz: 2:51am On Jul 28, 2021
Technically you have not received any visa so both are still 0% certainty.

Even with all your documentation without an actual visa then all is zero. So this question is like asking us to hatch your chickens and sell them before they hatched.

So the big question is see what visa you get. If it is a work visa you will have terms and conditions attached. See which one suits you more.

But assuming you have both visas in hand.

You can decide on which visa comes out first to make a decision. It will be fool hardy to reject one visa and then the other one does not come.

If you have both. Then I can tell you for free that Germany is a better option. I can go into details about racism and job oppurtunity (should incase you seek other jobs) in spain but then which western country is not racist. Germany is just friendlier to immigrants and that's fact and it's more stable. Settle there, find work, raise your family. Forget language, do as your mates have done. Get a language app listen everyday, in 6 months you will be fluent. Don't mind people saying go to USA, Canada I know people doing better in Germany.

That said as someone said here Germany visa is super hard to get now. That's why I said wait till visa dey hand first.

If Spain comes first prepare to go there and wait for Germany one if they give you time.

But get back to us when you actually get the visas. Good luck man.

I'm a programmer working and living in Nigeria but I recently got a job in Europe, Spain to be precise with an opportunity to travel and live in Barcelona.

Every documentation has been concluded pending the issuance of a travel visa .

But I recently got another opportunity to work in Germany, Berlin to be precise with a higher pay although the documentation has not commenced yet.

Right now I'm confused on which of the offers to choose and I need advice please.

The offer from Spain is 90% set while that of Germany is about 50% ready but both of them are very feasible.

This is how autobiographies are vetted. By looking for breaks or cracks in a narration. Toke makinwa could have just cooked up a story to make a book. yes, your second point is correct. now do you know examinations are written as junior officers? the exams stops after capt to major...you don't write exams from major to Lt. col..you go for courses. have you seen a stagnant major?(I.e someone stuck in major rank for years without promotion to Lt.col) it's rarely seen. but there are dozens of officers stuck at captain rank because the exam written to become a senior officer(major is the hardest). i know many capts that have been retired cos they failed the promotion exam thrice. that's why it is very hard to see the army retire a major except it's an executive commission.
After major, ranks come based on courses not exams unlike junior officers. Another hard rank to attain is crossing from colonel to brig.Gen(going to war college et all) cos that's moving to another level senior officers echelon. you can ask around or make research on this. these are facts
I have been following the arguments on both sides. You are looking at the major rank as a bc (If you are an insider you will know what that means.). Now, major is in no means a small rank. Barack men can attest to this. Its hard work to reach. Majors are respected but are still very much field boys, mostly commanding batallions or acting as 2ic. But when you say senior officer, you must have red neck. Technically thats from colonel but from Lt col you are regarded as a senior officer. You cannot call yourself a senior officer as major. Go and ask any uniform.
