And somebody propose Rabiu Ali gets on the plane to Russia....I know our local league players like you will never believe. Badly groomed set of players but I will never lose hope. |
aodis:Did you think Rabiu Ali was just getting discovered. He is a classic one hit player, not consistency at all. |
tbaba1234:That exactly how I used to watch the local league. The highlight on Super Sports. |
kentebemoney:Seems like Akwa United has really worked on their team with inclusion of some quality player blending with already arrays of stars in their fold. Dont forget they have Gabriel Okechukwu with CHAN Eagles. I have a feeling the team will come alive this season. As for Rangers, they have a sound coach in Gbenga Ogunbote but instability is their achilles hill. Most of the players that made them tick last 2 seasons are all gone ,except for Christian Madu,Godwin Aguda and Ugwu Uwadiegwu. |
tbaba1234:I dont know but I know that I am gonna be following all the proceeding till the league ends. I want to see how Plateau United will do this season. I have my eyes on Kennedy Boboye |
somehow:Bros, lets analyze this weekend opening game. What do you think about Akwa United thrashing of the Flying Antelopes at the NEST of champions ? |
Watch out for Ebube Duru staring for Lobi Stars. Dude is a diamond in the rough, big buy for Lobi Stars who fought Enyimba to acquire the services of the youngster. |
Cletus Itodo still playing soccer? See as little boys take am make caricature. Nigerian local league coaches are bunch of jokers ,starting granpa Itodo ahead of a young and vibrant Igbinobia. Lobi without Edwo and Okpotu look spineless |
somehow:Keeping an eye on Plateau United, Kano Pillars and Enyimba Fc ,especially Plateau United. They have three things going for them (1) Continuity/Momentum (2) The bulk of their players were retained (3) A hardworking and talented coach in Kennedy Boboye. |
Icon79:FLYING ANTELOPES starting off discouragingly . Ways to go, still. |
goldfish80:The land matter na another different story all together. Land matter will can take both your money and claim your life join...Very dangerous. Just be ready to kii pesin |
BluntBoy:The only thing that will make you write this thing up here is because you must have smoked some really good Californian Hydro specie. Firstly, Warri Wolves has been long relegated and we dont know what goes on in that NNL cadre enough to rate Vanzekin. |
ChrisKels:Thats why you dont trust people on face value. You must know them very well before cash gets involved. I have already addressed that on the post you quoted. |
BluntBoy:On what grounds ? |
TheSuperNerd:Guy, ifea aburo egwu... |
ChrisKels:Not just street wise, take your time and do a thorough research about the business you are going into and educate yourself and you might just end up not needing a helper. |
ChrisKels:I dont deal with IDs. I want to know your family, kindred and ancestral land so I can just go there ,take a handful of sand in your ancestral house and DATSALLL. Nwanne, Alusi Okija ka na emesi ife ike. |
The 2017/18 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season is three days away and one player who cannot wait for the games to begin is Plateau United’s Amos Gyang. The diminutive winger is eager to get started because of his desire to prove doubters wrong. Doubters, in Jos, where Plateau United play their home games. It is not an agenda of sorts but an opportunity for him to show Jos fans that he has grown from the little kid in the street who was called 'Mai Doya' (yam seller) because he hawked yams for his mother while playing in youth football circles in Jos a few years back. Gyang, who joined Plateau United from former NPFL champions Kano Pillars told npfl.ng that his experience with opposing fans while growing up in Jos has been a source of motivation for him to show he can succeed playing football. He was the butt of jokes not because his family was so poor he could not afford boots but chiefly due to the fact that he had a tray of yams on his head when he was not playing football in the streets. A lot of coaches also had problems with his stature as they felt he could not cope with the physical demands of the game but he has been able to put all that behind him to play for the likes of Giwa FC, Kano Pillars and now Plateau United. “It wasn’t easy for me in the beginning. A lot of people doubted me because of my stature. Some felt I could not make it in the game but I was willing to fight hard and tell them they were wrong,” Gyang exclusively told npfl.ng in Jos. “I had a lot of difficulty at first because getting boots to play was an issue and my mother was too poor to afford them for me to wear. “In fact, that wasn’t even an issue. The main problem was how to eat, how to feed the family. I had to hawk yams and potatoes to earn extra money for my family. "We could hardly get three square meals in a day. We were schooling and hawking at the same time. During the mid-term break or long vacation, I usually join my mother in her yam business until school resumes. "At a point, her business grew and she took us from a public school to a private one but that didn’t last long as the business collapsed and we were went back to a public school.” That was not the only obstacle Gyang faced. Gyang was also teased a lot especially by opposing fans anytime he scored or assisted a goal. It was a trying period for him but the barrage of insults and expletives hurled at him became a source of inspiration for him. “It got so bad that any time I score a goal in a match around Jos metropolis our opponents will say ‘Mai Doya ya sha goal’ (translates to ‘Yam seller has scored a goal’),” he said. “That was my nickname in the youth circles, I was called ‘Mai Doya.’ I felt bad about it because people were more interested in the fact that I hawked yams for a living than my football skills. “It felt bad that one day when I got called names on the pitch I ran home to my mother and told her I will never hawk yams again. “I was determined to change all that I promised myself that I will make it in the game to prove my doubters wrong and support my mother. I stopped hawking and concentrated on my football career." That setback did not deter Gyang as he kept on playing in youth competitions winning titles and picking up awards within Jos and Bauchi metropolis. A silverlining soon appeared as Saint Murumba College, famous for producing the likes of Segun Odegbami and Obinna Nsofor stepped up and offered him an opportunity to complete his secondary school education. It has been a whirlwind of a career for the winger whose breakthrough into big-time football came when he was selected to represent Plateau State at the National Sports Festival in Lagos in 2012. Gyang shone like a million stars as he emerged as the third best player in the football event and also scooped the second top scorer award. A bevy of clubs was in the queue to sign him. Heartland, Kaduna United and Dolphins (now Rivers United) all made overtures but he ended signing for Giwa FC where he cut his teeth as a professional footballer "I had a good time with the team (Giwa FC) before I went to Pillars and now I’m back to Jos, where it all started. I have a mission to show my people that the ‘yam seller’ is back to his roots and hoping to create records with my home state team Plateau United,” Gyang enthused. “Winning the league again is my personal target and I also want to help my team go as far as possible in the CAF Champions League. “It is an honour to represent my hometown club and I can’t wait for the season to start so I can show Jos fans what I can do. The 2017/18 NPFL season will be tough because as defending champions, a lot of teams will want to beat us whether home and away. “I can’t wait to get started, I’m excited the league is resuming. I hope to give the fans something to cheer and hopefully this time, the tag won’t be ‘yam seller.” This is what I love about Nigerian league, its full of beautiful and inspiring stories. Mai Doya, I will be looking out for ya. I am hoping Plateau United didnt sell 80% of the players that won the league for them. |
Anybody that dupe me will die of strange disease, their names will be called at every powerful shrine east of the Niger! Some people are even scared to do business with me because they think I am into voodoo... ![]() |
realpoacher:Point of correction, never did I say England will beat Nigeria. So, delete your bookmarked item. Abi you don high? |
TheSuperNerd:The French side outplayed them but the English were equally very threatening when they attack. The English had many positives from that match and I honestly did not expect them to put up such a fight and even shake up the star studded French team. The English team is not a walk over and I dare say they will shock a lot of people who has not given them a chance. We can beat them but we have to be in our best. |
Did anybody watch the CHAN Eagles friendly with Cameroon ? |
The England that I watched against France is very technical and disciplined. In fact , I was surprised. That team will shock a lot of people who has always underrated the team because this is definitely a better England side than the last world cup. A lot of their players are in terrific form, Kane, Raheem etc. Nigeria is not gonna have it easy with the team |
safarigirl:More like a realist. I say it like it is ,no sugarcoating. But I agree I am a bit stern, very stern and a disciplinarian. |
Icon4s:I didnt watch the match, so I couldnt have given verdict. However, I feel Iwobi is going through some rough patch and I hope he comes out of it a better player. |
TheSuperNerd:ri Lol...But that is a problem most strikers in the local league have. Very skillful, technical and strong but very annoyingly wasteful in the final third. Even Ahmed Musa has that wastefulness disease but can be very exceptional once in a while. |
darkelf:Is it not same Fred Friday that scored over 30 goals for Lillstrom before he moved to Alkmar. I discover there are thousands of Nigerian players in Europe but vast majority are average or bellow. |
So, it looks like Nacho will continue his romance with the bench if he doesnt move and if he doesnt move and continue to sit on the bench what is the guarantee he will make it to Russia. Taking a rusty player is setting yourself up for failure. Alili egbuo mu! |
PreciousBro:If you change the f you must equally change the l. ifemelumma to ihemeremma the borrowed version. The name is a northern/Anambra name but you want to corrupt it. |
Elparaiso:Are you a male or female ? |
[/b] TheSuperNerd: Omanbala is just angry shaa. He doesn't feel happy seeing the likes of Coutinho, Neymar, Sane, Sterling dominate the headlines every other week... He wants to see two of our proclaimed golden boys Nacho and Alex up there too. He is just being generally vexed. Goldfish said it,out of over 170 million Nigerians we [couldnt] produce a single world class player ? We rather take bunch of some average players and create new standard for world class, place them there just so we can open our mouth and say we have top players. And when other people disagree with us we call them angry |
TheGoodJoe:nse s You like going in circle debating things that a common sense should solve. Is Iheanacho improving or not abi you need glasses. Just the other day,he technically scored an own goal because of his infamous first touch. Please, dont go and start writing a book on top my head. |
