Car TalkRe: Nigerians Only Japanese Vehicles Mentality Syndrome by omanzo02: 6:23pm On Jan 11, 2013
chromoTop: japanese cars are not ony respected in Nigeria alone but everywhere in the world. I was part of a study group of the Honda cars, and this is one conclusion we came to;
it is very easy to maintain, even a layman can manage out,
cost of ownership ( from purchase, maintenance and scrapping cost) is really low

adaptability! from the coldest Scandinavia to the warmest Ghana it copes very easily.

And like someone said, its spare parts are standardised. All models share some standard parts except for a few complicated other parts.

and very reliable!
Dude,

That study conclusion is pure assumption, every European vehicles can adapt more that japs brands, Nigeria auto technicians are just too lazy to learn, even the latest European cars are easier to work on than the older model and cost of maintenance is also lower, do u know European cars are made to be maintained at about 60000km or once a year or whichever comes first?, good roads play great roll in durability and influence wear and tears in a vehicle and that what Nigeria don't have, so they blame durability on brands. grin grin
Jobs/VacanciesRe: How HR Personals Kill Dreams In Nigeria by omanzo02:
BayoAA: I do not know where you trade, but my 7 years educational life in Europe did not only proof that I studied theoretically but practically through summer internships. I garnered over 2 years hands-on/practical experience thru summer internships. With all due respect, if you did Bachelors degree abroad you will know this. Your certificate does not guarantee you a job anywhere in the world. As stated in my previous post it only secure you and invite for interview.
If I get u right summer internship is usually for a period of 3 months yearly if u are under the 21 years old (here in Belgium), but unlimited above 21, that may get u a consideration from an employer but not against someone/candidates with a continuous hands-on/practical experience.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: How HR Personals Kill Dreams In Nigeria by omanzo02: 9:49pm On Jan 06, 2013
BayoAA: Let us be clear about this, there is no job application in the world where your grade does not matter. You cannot tell me that you acquired your job with 3rd class or Pass. In europe, 2:2 is a universally accepted good-enough grade to land a job. Due to few job openings (supply) and Multide of applicants (demand) (from law of supply and demand), the price goes high (sometimes astronomically)hence in Nigeria, your first class does not even guarantee you an invite for interview as Msc, MBA,MA etc is the order of the day.

This is the price we pay daily for the rotten society we live in called Nigeria

To be invited for an interview, you must meet the requirements of the recruiter. During interview, your capability, knowledge, talent and defense of your "certificates" comes in.
BayoAA,

Funny enough MOST firms or recruiting bureaus don't discriminate with classes of certificate u have, because they feel everyone deserves a chance to prove his/herself before them, even in the high paying professions u won't find thousands of people applying for it because u'll find hundreds or thousands of firms that needs such profession in abundance, and here they believe more in passing over of experience/skill, after 5 years of working experience that is when they will start to take u and your certificate seriously in subsequent job interview.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: How HR Personals Kill Dreams In Nigeria by omanzo02: 8:58pm On Jan 06, 2013
Jarus: Spare us this. What you call certificate is not just paper, it is the summary of your accumulated performance over a number of years. If someone did better than you in those years(evidenced by certificate) there is no way you can prove to me that you are better than him, since he bested you in those years represented by that paper. After all, I don't know any of you before and I can only judge by your past, represented by those certificates.
Jarus,

Spare me that Nigeria's craps, I have seen happenings in both world, certificate in Europe is just a mere proof you studied theoretically for the profession but is not proof you are good at it, that is the perception/belief in recruitment bureaus and in firms here,, even if you are armed with PhD degree is not a guarantee here against someone with common diploma with experience. Skill/experience also earn you more money here than than certificate.
Jobs/VacanciesRe: How HR Personals Kill Dreams In Nigeria by omanzo02: 8:29pm On Jan 06, 2013
In Nigeria's HR circle it's certificate that matter, in developed world your skill is what really matter, certificate is just a proof u studied for the profession but is not a proof u are good in the profession, that is the perception/belief in HR circle in places in Europe, my experience/skill earn me my job that was also contested by candidates armed with higher certificate than me and all were European , that is the irony of life. The day we begin to take value in talent and capabilities, that will be the beginning of Change in Nigeria.

brabus: Hmm! Eyes are itchy to see more updates. So sorry to disappoint.

It’s been a long time since major works has been done on site and there has been little progress as my boys are still on vacation.
However, I popped by the house today to resume work but we couldn't do anything today. The house is still as it is. Project resumes tomorrow.

Watch this space for more updates.

PoliticsRe: Governor Suntai Discharged From German Hospital by omanzo02:
The governor has not recovered at all, the chair he is sitting is a special electrical driven wheel chair for disable, he is not holding the baby very well, his wife and the man sitting to his left are supporting him with their shoulders and hands to keep him upright, his face is expressionless which shows he not fully concious. A lesson to him is that he is dinning in the general cantine because in Western Europe establishments there is no segregation in rank and file, so he dinning and eating where and what every patient's in the hospital get, hospital meal is about €5 - €10 if he has an international insurance cover, if he doesn't he will have pay the standard deposit of about €3500 every week throughout the duration of his treatment, when he is discharged the total cost for treatment, accommodation, and feeding will be deducted from the total amount he deposited and the rest would be refunded to him, he can only ask for a private room and of course he can pay with our stolen money and even inflate the total cost twice.

jites: @ Spyder, thanks i know you would if you can, no he is not knowledgeable about building. He said some builder is building a house close to where he lives and he intends to ask him if he can take on our own building, if not then he will look for any builder who is currently handling a project and if he likes the work they are doing then he would approach them, other than that i dont think there is much he can do, any ideahuh?? if it were here in England you would be able to get a certified builder from a catalogue called the yellow page where every builder who is listed in that book is certified to build, so you can pick anyone from the list really. But thanks. all i can ask for right now is if and when i start building i would be asking for advise and costing information from you if you dont mind so i can compare but in terms of the quality of the work there is nothing i can do about that but i hope my inlaw has enough sense to know from their previous work if they are good and i have also advise him to speak to the actual owners of the projects also so they can give their recommendation. Thanks
spyder880: @ Jites, how I wish I can help, but Sapele is far for me now. Is your inlaw knowledgeable about buildings?
Jite,

Sapele is actually far for Spyder880, Asaba or Agbor should have been a bit favourable, I had wanted him to handle my project there cos of his expertise, but there are still trustworthy and Knowlegeable builders in sapele, my dad and brothers who are knowledgeable in building are keeping track on my builder and project and also sending pictures on every development so my absence is not felt at all, I will see how it has gone when I will there in february, just ask your inlaw/supervisor to screen and investigate the builders before hiring and he should also go to the market to confirm things for himself, and talk to owners of projects they had handled for their reliability and trustworthiness. Shikena.

I will try to post some pictures and development for others to learn from my experience.

Christianity EtcNigerians, Are U Not Tired Of Prayers Yet?, it's only action that forces changes by omanzo02(op): 10:16pm On Dec 17, 2012
Like the saying goes ' God help those that help themselves' {if one really exist though}, our belief in miracle/supernatural solutions to political and personal problems have made us paranoïde to an extent that the politicians see nigerians as retarded and dilusional minds to play on, they even use the same religion to play on our intelligence and hypnotise us not to protest against their excesses, squandering and looting of our resources, because they know all we could do is say "God dey" and go to church or mosque to pray that God intervene or strike them down, which u really know would'nt happen. What I'm trying to say is, God would never come down to change our political landscape if we as a people don't move against our politician, and miracle would not happen if we don't teach our politicians a hard lesson. Egypte, Tunisia, Libya and now Syria all prayed but Allah never came down until they force changes themselves.

GARRI (x7):
If the current threads are not vibrant, educative or informative then the issue isn't because of "garri" or "1st to comment", the real issue is that some folks can't address salient issues without whipping tribal or ethnic sentiments....

Beaf was a curse to NL
Beaf was a blessing to NL, just that Jarus and Aisha were bent on being partial in their judgement. Dude, in Nigeria conposition, no matter how salient political debates might appear it will have a tribal or ethnic trait, reason is that every nationalities are seeking recognition and survival after several years of repression and abuse from the so called 'big 3', if the bigger tribes had protected and encourage the weak, the perception would be different, and Nigeria is not alone in this trend, it's happens also in stable Europe, separatism is the New political trend.

GARRI (x7):
The Political section is still very vibrant. We've got folks like Pointless B, Kats, Gbawe, Afam, NDU Chuks etc who give surgical analysis of issues (most of which are not unduly ladened with tribal and partisan sentiments). The Politics section is still very vibrant, enlightening and educative..

Garri and first to comment are very childish and inconsequential trends which would have died naturally. They have never been acceptable norms as you falsely asserted.

The real monster which NL management needs to address is the tribal bigotry that has become a trademark of NL. Almost Every issue is made an avenue for Igbo vs yoruba wars.
I'm not surprise Garri was the first to defend itself. grin grin, if u call the current trends vibrant, informative and educative then u are really living in wild garri island lol grin angry grin, and the names u reeled out can never fill the big shoes Beaf left. grin

spyder880: I like the idea, I will give serious thought to it.
I think it worth trying, don't forget that's how Ikea started, making furniture and providing details drawing of how to assemble it yourself, today they are the biggest furniture company in the world. Every success begins with an idea, if u improve on it, it can bubble beyond your expectations.
PropertiesRe: Building A 5 Bedroom Duplex In Ebonyi State by omanzo02:
prince_onx: When a contractor use words like preliminary, sub-structure, super-structure, etc while trying to build a 2 bedrooms and a living-room BQ especially for a client that is building for the first time and know nothing about building, I wonder the language/English he will use/speak if he's quoting or building a duplex?
Like you rightly said, that's why Spyder stands out and honest! A lot of people have acquired so much knowledge, ideas, and experience about building just by going through his threads. Even women that will originally say they know nothing about building coment and contribute here too! Why? Because Spyder will tell you what the next plan is, carry out the project, and show you a picture of what it is. He tell you they're starting a foundation tomorrow and after the foundation he show a picture of what it is making is easy for a layman or first time builder to know what he's talking about! Same thing when he start block setting, German floor, walling, lintel, decking, etc! Now compare that to preliminary stage @ N250k? If you agree and pay, who will you blame if they tell you the next day that preliminary stage is just cutting of grass?

@jites: where you disappear go sef? Abi you contractor don make you believe say you never ready? Lets hear from you.
U are on point with the analysis, most builders are funny with languages, these days I just refer people to read thru Spyder's thread for an idea of the building terrain. It's a pity internet access in Nigeria is still for the rich, what spyder is doing is an excellent marketing idea to reach wide range of people and might change how most people deal with builders, and that alone is a milestone.

prince_onx: My late grandfather always quote that "when people want to cheat you they switch to foreign language" in other word big grammar.
A western/white man will take complicated things and make them very simple, while an African/black man will take simple things and make them very complicated
.
@jites: tell your guy to save you/us the headache and go straight to the point and call things the way they are and understandable especially for a first time builder like you. What is preliminary? Is that suppose to be omo-onile fee? Or cutting of grass/bush? What is sub-structural work? Is that digging of foundation? Or setting of blocks? Tell him to brake down his cost in a layman term such as: how many blocks @ what cost each and total, how many bags of cement @ what cost and total, cost of labour @ what stage? etc. How many pieces of doors and windows for a BQ is he quoting you over N200k? and at what cost each? This are things you need to know and ask before anything. Also, as a first time builder, I'll advise you to both get your quote and do this project in stages! That is: get a quote for both material and labour for foundation first, then german floor, then block setting, then lintel, and so on. Worry about the structure skeleton first before finishing!
Dude,

U cracked me up with the bolded, lol grin grin grin grin , that is why people like spyder will keep attracting more customers and believeable, cos he makes complicated things very simple to understand. Spyder, I think u could earn some good money writting a book, making building procedures and languages simpler for Nigerians to see, what do u think?. smiley smiley
