princefunmi: 2 reasons - The surface reason (probably the only one you know about) or the enlightened reason ( the one I happen to know about).Actually I was meant to write £1 not £1m Towards the late 80s and early 90s the growth of the small car industry was staggering most especially the front wheel drive cars and this was from Volkswagen, Renault, Peugeot and the Japanese car firms; also BMW was keen on breaking into the all wheels or 4 wheel drive industry. The cost of developing the front drive was a concern. On the other side Honda owned 20 stake in over Group PLC they were still negotiating with BAe the owners of Rover Group PLC to increase their stake further. In 1994 Rover was sold to BMW for £800m, the last British owned car industry has been sold off. What was regarded as the family silver has been sold off. Honda felt betrayed by the Brits, But BMW had acquired a fast route into 2 car industries. Honda was encouraged to continue to provide the engines, chassis and gear box for Rover, but eventually Honda pulled out leaving BMW turning to other car industries to provide these parts for Rover Yes as you mentioned they acquired the technology which they were eager to develop but had some concerns about the cost of developing them. The small car they wanted came inform of the Mini Cooper which was retained when Rover Group PLC was sold to Phoenix The technology from Land Rover helped BMW in developing the X5 Remember that the Land Rover Freelander was built based on Honda's own 4 wheel drive I think its the CRV in Swindon (Honda's plant) BMW provided the Diesel engines for Rover 75 models but in the end they all flopped. Rover was loosing money by the day, but BMW didnt want to break the original agreement they signed when they acquired the Car firm, by moving it back to Germany where they thought it will be cheaper to run. |
DECOtech: please oh, what's the difference between putting a dog on a leash and putting a leash on a dog?The different is the dog could run away then you have to look for another dog to put the leash on.... these are one of the things that led to the collapse of Rover |
AlfaSeltzer: You put a dog that deserves it on a leash. You put a leash on a dog because you have nothing better to do.hmm |
princefunmi: Prove itAnswer this question and the answer relates to my first comment, why did BMW purchase Rover Group PLC and then sell it back 6 years later (actually its was sold back for £1m), what was their motive |
Airforce1: I woulda prefered mikel marry a british or american woman over dat russian.I will have any caucasian lady over a British or American lady an day of the year... A British can leave you for your father |
princefunmi: Then I will have to say, you know nothing about the car industry.Either way I know more than you |
ba7man: @alfa szeltzer just busted the whole Innoson propaganda.Volkswage took over Skoda and Seat and continue to run those firms and supplied parts and engines and modified designs |
princefunmi: What you call mediocrity was the starting point for Kia in 1944 when they started. They started by making bicycle parts. [b]Today they are killing Toyota and Honda who have been in the scene longer than they have been. They are not killing NOTHING!!!!! Kia is there but in the small car, Hatch back, 5 doors, Sedan, estate, Luxury or coupe... Kia is nowhere near dominating any of those market. They might make one model that wins best small car of the year but it doesnt mean they are dominating that market. Do you know how long the "Corolla" dominated the small car industry before the Volkswagen Golf moved in? |
mickyarams: You know you are a silly doughnut, typical black man with a crab mentality. How many cars has your father produced??Volkswagen is the parent company of Audi BMW owns the Mini Open, Vauxhaull and Chevy are all part of the GM group |
They are both hideous the Yoruba movies sells more because they are in mass production, the cost of making them is very low, the English speaking wing of Nollywood have ironed out some "head-scratching" moments you still find in Yoruba movies like someone dying from a car crash that rolled at 2mph into a grass or a gun shot that that sounds like a tray and spoon connecting together |
car crash industry $6bn haba When Bollywood only generates around £1.3bn |
Am trying to think who was the bigger Clown? Alonso or Button both lost 3 place while trying to pass Magnussen |
He has no chance becoming the leader of the Labour party let alone becoming the Prime Minister The last time it was the Black lady Oana King who lost to the Milliband brothers |
DollyParton1: Obama ain't black, dude is mixed race. When will people get that right.Excuse me? If Obama rapes, steals, kills or commits an offence he will be referred to as a BLACK MAN |
You could see why I and many people dont take the whole industry serious!!! Omo Ghetto Blackberry Babes Sharon Stone of Abuja Cassanova And many more..... rubbish I could remember one of the Actresses complaining about the lenght of time been taken to screen the movie half of a yellow sun, REALLY!!! I said!!! When Jada Pinkett-Smith spent 8 months away from a family screening the Matrix (2nd part) |
What about the 90+ fans that died on that day? I agree with manuch, That site need to be sold off.. its decaying by the day |
Carlo has to be careful not to spark off the cry baby (CR7) in the squad |
If that was Miss Genevieve Nnaji who bump into the gate of white house this site would have gone viral. She going places, haters she go and hug> ![]() |
VillageBoi: In the 'context' of things I don't think it's an unfair comparison... the article is talking about 'Nigerian films at Nigerian cinemas and their 'domestic' performance' which is actually important information. And I'm pretty sure the other films mentioned didn't have the 'same' budget. All am saying is that you expect the movie to smash all the box record because it had an unfair advantage over the other movies, Its like comparing the movie Jesus of Nazareth to Mel Gibson's Passion of Christ! One could only go straight to DVD then to the TV but the other smashed records at the cinemas, why? Because of its investment, marketing, directing, producing, casts, cinematigraphy, costume, sound editing, etc and this also gave it an advantage over movies that were handled by amateurs |
Common OP Half of a Yellow Sun vs trailblazers like Last Flight to Abuja ,Phone Swap, Maami and The Return of Jennifer (N10Million). Unfair comparisson!!! Half of a Yellow Sun budget is bigger or more than those 4 movies all together, had Hollywood actors/actresses.... So what do you expect. Compare Half of a Yellow Sun with a movies of similar budget, like Tsotsi, Hotel Rwanda, The Last King of Scotland etc |
thegoodjoehunt3: I just gave you a scenario with Coach Amokachi. For instance, the introduction of Mikel in 2006, led to the end of the Martins drought with two goals in one game in the Nations cup.Okocha wasnt part of the mafia group who starved Yekini, it was the senior players led by Keshi, Ammunike, Iroha, Okon, Finidi, Amokachi etc Okocha and Oliseh were junior members they had no say, Okocha was in the SE team from 1993 WC qualifying that qualified for the first WC, which also got Yekini his second golden booth. How could you say we were Trophyless under Okocha when he was in the team that won the 1994 ANC and Olympics gold (ok thats age related) but Nigeria won another trophy 8 years after he retired.... Most of Martins goals were set up by Kanu and not Mikel |
thegoodjoehunt3: Ikpeba was one of the best strikers in the World going to France 98. He was the highest goal scorer in the French league. Guess what, he flopped at the World Cup. Tell me the way our strikers were flopping during Jay Jay's era was not strange.Oh please!!! Against Spain Nigeria scored 3 goals - he must be doing something right? he scored against Bulgaria and he didnt play the last game game which was a dead rubber |
thegoodjoehunt3: Yekini flopped at the World Cup in 1994 because his team mates refused to give him good services to shine.Dont make me laugh please! so a striker flopped because Okocha hugged the ball too long! is your point, so what was the role of Finidi, Babangida, Ikpeba and all the right and left wingers in the team? are they not meant to create chances for the strikers? Okocha left the international scene I guess in 2006, so tell me in the last 8 years who is to blame? Okocha!! You make it sound as if Nigeria is a one man team! |
thegoodjoehunt3: I am not talking of USA '94. I am talking. Martins, Aghali and Ogbeche. That was when Okocha was a senior player.Martin came into the SE team when Okocha was fading out, Ogbeche was his team mate at PSG but was a reserve player and during the Onigbinde era Ogbeche didnt cut the mustard at the national team, he flopped where Agahowa shined, Agali had one good season with Shalke 04 but he flopped big time at the 2002 Nations cup so you cant say Okocha starved him the ball, yes it does happened but Nigeria is not a one man team and assist comes from all over the field. |

Eberex: More fans in the world? yuk!!!! yet how many came out to celebrate when they won the champion league cup?Are you serious.... I deal with facts not hot air Chelsea: 4th most fans in Europe A German consultancy company, specialised in Sports questions, has carried out a study on the most popular football clubs in Europe. The study has Chelsea as the 4th most popular club. Sport + Markt is a German company based in Cologne. Every year, they publish a study on the most popular clubs by estimating the number of their fans in Europe. I wish I could explain how this was done, the methodology must be fascinating. Unfortunately, the study itself is very expensive and only an executive summary is available for the general public. Nevertheless, that abstract makes for some very interesting reading. Most revealing is a European top 20 of clubs by number of European supporters, a ranking that can be read alongside the annual Deloitte Football Money League. In the top 20, it is not surprising that the top 2 clubs by number of fans are Barcelona and Real Madrid. Barcelona are estimated to have some 57,8 million fans, and Madrid a mere 31,3 million. As can be imagined, these are the only 2 Spanish clubs in the list, highlighting the extreme nature of the imbalance in the Spanish Liga. ManYoo come next, but only just, with 30.6 million. What is an eye-opener is that the study has Chelsea as the 4th best supported club in Europe (albeit some way behind) with 21,4 million supporters. We are guessing that not all of them went to those glorious midweek away matches to Oldham or Orient in the 1980s… England has another 2 clubs in the list: Arsenal are 6th (20.3 million) and the team with the best fans in the world, Liverpool, come in at 9th. Of course, each of their 16,4 million is worth 10 Barça fans, so they should be on top of the list. Beyond the top 20, we see that Tottenham come in at number 33, with a massive 3.3 million fans across Europe. There are 4 Italian clubs in the list: Milan are 7th (18,4 million), closely followed by Inter (8th, on 17,5 million), Juve 10th (13,1 million) and Roma 19th (6 million). Germany has just the one club, not surprisingly Bayern Munich in 5th place on 20,7 million. France`s big two are Marseille (14th, 7,8 million) and Lyon (17th, 6,6 million). What is striking is that Russia has 3 clubs in the list: Zenit St. Petersburg (11th, 12,6 million), CSKA Moscow (12th, 10,5 million) and Spartak Moscow (13th, 9 million). Then again, we have to take into account the sheer size and population of Russia. That is the reason why Turkey, also a massive country, has two entries: Galatasaray (16th 6,8 million) and Fenerbahce (6.1 million). Finally we can note Dynamo Kyiv in 20th, 5,3 million, and the huge weight of Ajax, some 7,1 million supporters in 15th. JEITO: Now I know why Nigeria is not progressing as it should. People only care about what concerns them. No more 'brother's keeper'Would you have said anything if that was Shakira or Lady GaGa? oh its ok for the younger ones to see them Twerking not a Nigerian.... I guess we have this selective criticism, Fine if Halle Berry shows her boobs in a movie, but we should pull out the electric chair if Tonto Dike thinks kisses on a movie set. |
anonimi: Nor mind some of our SLAVE brothers who cannot free themselves even they have been freed from their MENTAL chains but cannot shake it off. Make dem listen to the President of Kalakuta Republic:So we should take the song of an Artist who school in LONDON as Gospel! wow!!! what happened to all the school in Nigeria? |
banega: This man is just simply blessed!! What a great man •Who? Obama.... we all know that, Black man leader of the free world.. An inspiration to other black men. |
Arsenal has the costliest season ticket in Europe, earns more per match than any other club in Europe (£3M+ PER MATCH) But Chelsea still makes more money than Arsenal annually, Chelsea has more fans around the world than Arsenal Chelsea in the only team in the UK who has won a UEFA Grandslam (winning all 4 major UEFA trophies) |
The problem with Blessing is that once someone is ahead of her she begins to chase and thights up.... and Ahoure flies out of the block, If Blessing could improve on her starting, just like Marion Jones did (before her drug or steriod exploit) then she will be cleaning up all the sprint medals |
