Politics › Re: Depots Deserted As Petrol Landing Cost Hits ₦720/Litre by Omodua(m): 10:21am On Oct 07, 2023 |
nairalanda1: We have no domestic refining because in 1973, we decided to subsidise fuel...which meant that eventually we sold fuel below the cost of its production. Not just fuel...kerosene, diesel, etc.
For a while we could afford it since the population of people using the refined products was not large enough (in the 1980's far more people used firewood than kerosene, and gas to cook.). But eventually we could not. And the queues started up, first in the mid 1970's. The refineries started collapsing in the 1990's when Southerners were in charge of NNPC.
The honest truth is simple. Any company making things needs to make a profit to pay for running costs. Subsides of the kind we practice in Nigeria do not pay for running costs effectively. Then our growing population means that most of the oil revenue has to go to funding things like salaries and projects, and the like. Add the fact that as at today, 20% of our revenue comes from taxes and other things, the 80% comes from oil....and you would see why we do not have working refinereis
Venezuela sells fuel at N40 or less per liter. And they have lost refining capacity over the last 20 years . To the point they can no longer help countries like Cuba with free subsidised oil. (Cuba is having to ration power as a result).
Iran has managed to keep refining and subsides. Their debt also makes ours look like chickenfeed. Iran wants to remove subsides. They can't because it means revolution.
If you want working refineries, make it profitable to run refineries....and that means letting the market set prices for fuel. Anything else is just inviting more and more debt, more and more import and less and less domestic refining.
Mele Kyari and Ibe Kalichuku have both called for removal of subsides. Kyari has even explained why subsides have to go self hundreds of times, and how they hinder NNPC's op. But you folk want N40 fuel...so you pretend he is the problem Thanks for the insight. |

ideynl1: I am beginning the feel pity for Tinubu. But his agbado supporters are making things worse.
At the end, this disgrace we have taken interhnational will affect everyone of us, who identify as Nigerian. It’s indeed unfortunate situation.
I think this issue ought to have been handled better by Tinubu. There should have been a kind of reconciliation attempts by him to other contestants and not let this issue blow to this extent. This could have been better managed.
Indeed this will affect all of us all as Nigerians.
Although I’m not a Tinubu supporter, but as long as Nigeria and Nigerian court are concerned, he will still find his way out. But the damage that has been done will haunt every Nigerian who does any academic or professional activities outside of Nigeria.
Be you Obidient, Batist, Atikulator, this certificate issue will affect everyone. Tinubu didn’t handle this matter better. I don’t mean sending attack dogs on social media to defend him, but at the start of this case, he should have found a way to properly handle this matter. The case has gone out of hand now, unfortunately. Well said bro. Tinubu didn't handle the saga well. Allowed emotions and pride to override him. The matter is made worse by Bayo Onanuga and his supporters with hateful comments instead of reconciliatory comments. I don't know he will handle this even though our compromised Court will vindicate him or set him free. |

FreeStuffsNG: Calm down. If you have problem with your identity, speak for yourself. I am not confused about who I am and where I belong. I have made my point on how sane fair minded people all over the world collaborate by reciprocity. If you want to keep holding your own resources to yourself, don't turn around and blame others if they do same.
Even within SE, situations that make reciprocity absolutely necessary is not new and when Anambra state recently insisted it will only recruit its own indigenes alone, indigenes of other states will require reciprocity from their own states for justice.
If you don't want to be a Nigerian, it's none of my business. The last time I checked, southeast is inside Nigeria and has people and patriotic Nigerians representing it at all levels of government and armed Forces in Nigeria. If you are in doubt, here's SE inside Nigeria like poor tiny Lesotho that lives off like a parasite on SA, inside SA Self determination is enshrined in United Nations Charter. You can't live with a people who are culturally and religiously diverse. Just like strange bedfellows. And this is why people of southeast wants to exit Nigeria. The progress of the people has been eroded because it occupies space with wrong people. If we are same country, why should a renegade and simpleton, aka Bayo Onanuga open his dirty mouth to insult a whole ethnic group even though he has Lagos identity complex phobia? Enough of pretensions. Let's go our separate ways so no lazy brat who has mortgaged his heritage would come and spew nonsense! |

FreeStuffsNG: Brilliant! Reciprocity is done everywhere in the world. It's the best way to collaborate and can be domesticated too.
That's why all the SW states must adopt it too as adviced here : LAGOS GUBER & PLIGHT OF IGBO: Law Of Reciprocity Is The Solution https://www.nairaland.com/7612989/lagos-guber-plight-igbo-law
Let's collaborate by reciprocity so we can have equitable and sustainable relationship among ourselves and the states. It helps us place value on what we each offer to one another and de-escalate our fault lines.
Every resource must be exchanged by reciprocity for collaboration. Every state has resources to exchange so bring it to the table and use for exchange.
You can not keep holding to your own resources tightly and deplete those of others you demonstrably hate and resent as your host. It's a recipe for intertribal injustice and anarchy.
Let's collaborate by reciprocity and respect and love for each other. God bless Nigeria for ever! Check my signature for free stuffs! Stop your infantile posturing. Igbo is ready to exit Nigeria. But felons like you don't want her to exit. Not long ago, a political neophyte and eeeedi*t, Bayo Onanuga opened his stinking mouth to insult Igbo as a race over their voting patterns in Lagos. He was angry because they didn't vote APC. Bayo Onanuga forgot that he is not original Lagos protégy. Like others, he came to appropriate the political heritage of Lagos in the name of Oduduwa. His parents were groundnut sellers who migrated from the North to Ijebu Ode in 1920s. So,he is the least person to cast aspersion on Igbos because he has foggy Yoruba identity complex phobia of northern ancestry. South East is ready to exit Nigeria and everybody will have rest instead of throwing insults. |

The SSN did not show female gender, it is the transcript from SouthWest College that shows F gender which the registrar asserted that it was likely an error from SouthWest College while printing the transcript, because the SSN which shows all valid information about Tinubu is also on the same transcript and the gender there is Male. FreeStuffsNG: To set the record straight and to educate us on the right use of these English words, I will like to let us know that what HE Atiku, the former Vice President and defeated candidate of the PDP in the last Presidential election, held today is a Press Conference, not a World Press Conference
What is a Press Conference?
A press conference or news conference is a media event in which notable individuals or organizations invite journalists to hear them speak and ask questions. Press conferences are often held by politicians, corporations, non-governmental organizations, as well as organizers for newsworthy events.
The Error?
There's nothing like World Press Conference. Press conference is press conference.
Even if it's attended by international media organisations, it is still a press conference, not a world press conference.
Unfortunately, the press conference held by HE Alhaji Atiku today was poorly attended by the local media , 100% dominated by local press as one can gleam from those in attendance and the media brands on the microphones in front of him. The only non-Nigerian media name is VOA which still has a local Hausa service that caters to listeners from Northern Nigeria.
It was a press conference and not world press conference.
Please stop making this mistake. I hope this helps. Regards. You're a problem unto yourself. You're yet to come to terms with reality. There is limit to supportership. You're now making yourself a laughing stock with your disposition on Tinubu's certificate forgery which CSU disowned/distanced themselves from.
