lionlee216: You are right on your post, but the bolded one, it depends on the categories of Nigerians you are hanging with. There are lots of Nigerians actually living big and fine here. If you have met graduate students on scholarship who are getting paid while schooling and the ones that graduated and working and maybe the Nigerians that are citizens and finished school Mostly in medicine and IT fields. They are earning big. Apart from those categories, you are right especially if they came in thru b1/b2, the struggle will be tough. You can’t even rent a house on your name. You’ll have to start watching your back the moment your visa expires. We see it here all the time #omoluabi |

FuckYaAll: No that’s fine. I Get it. Foods are cheap here and it’s almost not a problem except you want to buy imported foods like Africa dishes and sorts. $5 can get you few food stuffs tho! #omoluabi 1 Like |

SireHamlet: Well, TOEFL is not a must for Nigerian applicants because here, Nigeria is considered an English Speaking Country, but SAT is required for undergraduate applicants the same way GRE is required for graduate applicants depending on the program #omoluabi 2 Likes |

SireHamlet: With good waec result, you should write SAT/TOEFL exams which are not that difficult compared to GRE (for masters/phd applicants). If you do good with SAT, you have 95% of getting a full ride scholarship. The only budget you would need is flight ticket and the money to travel with. SAT shouldn’t be that cost about 60k naira or so. #omoluabi 4 Likes |

SireHamlet: School fees depends on your program of study, rents depends on the part of the country and visa processing is one hell of a hurdle by writing qualifying exams and transcripts evaluation together with schools application fees, but it will be worth it if you end up getting a student visa. Let’s say student visas is almost like half citizenship because you have access to most of what citizens has access to, but not all until you graduate from college and you will get even more opportunities with work authorization permits #omoluabi 10 Likes |

Good thread and nice guesture! Blowjobs I wish you all the very best, but for others wishing to come here by all means, I know naija is hard and all that, but atleast try to come in with a student visa route if you really want to have a soft landing and enjoy your American dream! Tuition can be waived if you got in with teaching or graduate assistantship or scholarship of some kinds. American schools do grant assistantship to good students. Coming in with b1/b2 for a hustler is really harsh. You can’t even open a bank account or get credit cards, drivers license/SSN card/StateID, car loans and all sort of things which are accessible to student visa holders. Secondly, you can only do what we call “under the table” jobs to pay your bills. Don’t expect anyone to accommodate you for free. Nah, that don’t happen here. Blowjobs is just one out of million kind of lucky. I have been here as a student for a while and seeing how Nigerians with b1/b2 struggle to survive is not fun. Whatever anyone tells you is all sugarcoating. You will STRUGGLE for real! The class of visa you came in through will determine your standing. #Omoluabi 38 Likes |

Ibukunoluwa01: If I were you, I'll just finish my Undergraduate in Nigeria with very good GPA. You have a great advantage of discovering this path this early as it'll give you more reasons and time to graduate with good grade and blast your GRE/TOEFL. You are more likely to get visa as a masters student than a transfer student. Some stories just don't sound well to the VOs. |

omilaomila: Bro don't mind that guy. The moniker Gbemisolarh is a fraud. First of all, he is a male disguising as a female. I know about two people on this forum whom he has talked to and he ended up being a male and I have proves. Secondly, all his stories are just not right. I know this is not my business, but it just irritates me as I can't decipher whatever game he is playing. I'm still taking my time and following his stories tho 3 Likes |

Eliza12345: I saw your post on the other thread, but couldn't reply you there because its only the Visa Officer that replies there. With what I'm seeing up there, you have a lot of work to do. Why would you apply for an associate degree after getting a Bsc in India? Why are you going for liberal art and science after graduating in IT? Did you go thru the process yourself or you used an agent? I don't even know what to advise because your story don't sound straight. I wish you all the best |

People should stop panicking unnecessarily about POE. The rules are clear and it's a public knowledge. NOT MORE THAN 30 DAYS BEFORE THE START OF YOUR PROGRAM the other guy that posted his cousin's friend issue is just creating unnecessary tension. How will someone travel to US months after the resumption date and expect not to be turned back? Just makesure you travel according to the stated rules and you will be fine. Makesure you are with your I-20 and other necessary documents too. It's not as difficult as people portray it to be as long as your name has not been on any kind of redflag in the CBP database. Relax guys!!! 1 Like |
