Like OP said, If you need to come here, Pls plan very well and one of the best route is if you can use F1 visa though the tuition fee is still much but I have seen people with little funds getting GA/TA/RA and living fine.

Do GRE and get good scores and then you will might be fortunate to get a good ride(scholarship), dont tell the VO that you are going for a conference in new york and you show up at California.

Dont tell tell the CBP at POE that your conference/visit will last for one week and show up with two fully loaded luggage and fully loaded hand lugage, You are on your own grin grin

Your Conference is 5 days, You booked hotel of $500 for 5 days and when asked about the cash you have at POE, You can only show them $300. You are on your own. cheesy cheesy

These people at POE have many stuffs to do. Once you dont give them something to doubt on, You will be fine. Pls do your homework well.

Make your passing at POE very smooth by helping the immigration officers to do their jobs. the only way to do that is you have verifiable documents and make sure your answers are straight forward. You are saving them some stress and also helping yourself.

Lastly, dont believe any friend of yours saying he is living large in america and posting different types of cars on fbk. dont fall victim. Be wise!

My eyes don see no be small I swear

You are right on your post, but the bolded one, it depends on the categories of Nigerians you are hanging with. There are lots of Nigerians actually living big and fine here. If you have met graduate students on scholarship who are getting paid while schooling and the ones that graduated and working and maybe the Nigerians that are citizens and finished school Mostly in medicine and IT fields. They are earning big. Apart from those categories, you are right especially if they came in thru b1/b2, the struggle will be tough. You can’t even rent a house on your name. You’ll have to start watching your back the moment your visa expires. We see it here all the time

all I wanted was to know what the $5 can Afford down there.

Gracias.

No that’s fine. I Get it. Foods are cheap here and it’s almost not a problem except you want to buy imported foods like Africa dishes and sorts. $5 can get you few food stuffs tho!

Thanks bro.
But I saw in one website that if you have C4 and above in English and mathematics, that there os no need for TOEFL.
How true is this?

Well, TOEFL is not a must for Nigerian applicants because here, Nigeria is considered an English Speaking Country, but SAT is required for undergraduate applicants the same way GRE is required for graduate applicants depending on the program

But for someone that has WAEC result with nice grades i English and Mathematics, which other exams are required?
And please, what should be my budget (in figures)

With good waec result, you should write SAT/TOEFL exams which are not that difficult compared to GRE (for masters/phd applicants). If you do good with SAT, you have 95% of getting a full ride scholarship. The only budget you would need is flight ticket and the money to travel with. SAT shouldn’t be that cost about 60k naira or so.

BJ, how much will it cost me in total to apply for a first degree in the science field in any state in the USA (school fees, house rent and visa processing fees inclusive)

School fees depends on your program of study, rents depends on the part of the country and visa processing is one hell of a hurdle by writing qualifying exams and transcripts evaluation together with schools application fees, but it will be worth it if you end up getting a student visa. Let’s say student visas is almost like half citizenship because you have access to most of what citizens has access to, but not all until you graduate from college and you will get even more opportunities with work authorization permits

Good thread and nice guesture! Blowjobs I wish you all the very best, but for others wishing to come here by all means, I know naija is hard and all that, but atleast try to come in with a student visa route if you really want to have a soft landing and enjoy your American dream! Tuition can be waived if you got in with teaching or graduate assistantship or scholarship of some kinds. American schools do grant assistantship to good students. Coming in with b1/b2 for a hustler is really harsh. You can’t even open a bank account or get credit cards, drivers license/SSN card/StateID, car loans and all sort of things which are accessible to student visa holders. Secondly, you can only do what we call “under the table” jobs to pay your bills. Don’t expect anyone to accommodate you for free. Nah, that don’t happen here. Blowjobs is just one out of million kind of lucky. I have been here as a student for a while and seeing how Nigerians with b1/b2 struggle to survive is not fun. Whatever anyone tells you is all sugarcoating. You will STRUGGLE for real! The class of visa you came in through will determine your standing.

Nigeria

If I were you, I'll just finish my Undergraduate in Nigeria with very good GPA. You have a great advantage of discovering this path this early as it'll give you more reasons and time to graduate with good grade and blast your GRE/TOEFL.

You are more likely to get visa as a masters student than a transfer student. Some stories just don't sound well to the VOs.

CGPA of 2.9956 in a reputable federal government university . So you mean it is possible if i put in all efforts.? I believe I can be very successful in GRE. I am so motivated to correct the mistakes during my UG.

Thanks for your reply

With your GPA, you'll hit 3.something after evaluation so yes its very very possible if you blast GRE and TOEFL. All the best

Good evening everyone.

My visa delayed at Abuja embassy yesterday 19th July by an african-american lady probably in her early to mid 30s

See below my transcripts- Kindly let me know what part I Bleeped and how i can do better next time

Vo: good morning
Me: good morning, how are you today?
Vo: can I av ur passport nd I-20
Me: I obliged
Vo: why are you going to the US?
Me: Am going to the US for my masters in public health at Georgia Southern University
Vo: why Georgia Southern university
Me: Asides the fact that Georgia Southern University has a great program curriculum that fits my graduate study needs, I am particularly interested in an on-going research real healthcare reforms focusing on primary care access in under-served population and the rural areas of hwich my community is presently underserved health wise. This will help me address the healthcare challenges when i return back home (Honestly she wasn't listening because she just kept typing and nodding till she noticed i had finished answering her question)
Vo: what do you do currently?
Me: I work with a health consulting firm as a public health specialist on the CDC/PEPFAR funded ACTION Plus up program where i support over 50 private health facilities in delivering quality HIV/AIDS services to people infected and affected by the disease. I also build the capacity of the health facility staff on proper monitoring of HIV patients. (she was nodding again and staring at her screen so i just thought she was seeing it on my DS160- well guess i was wrong)
Vo: who will be sponsoring you?
Me: My brother and my mum
Vo: (She calls his name because it's on my I-20) what does he do?
Me: He works with the federal department of transport and he is also in the US army
Vo: Do you have he's account statement with you?
Me: Yes i do
Vo: Can I see it? and your mums' to if you have it
Me: Pass the account statements to her
VO: (She looks at my brother's statement) why will he be willing to use all his savings to pay for your tuition?
Me: My mum will be supporting him with the tuition, so he wont be paying all alone (In my mind, what if he decides to use his whole savings sha)
VO: Your mum doesn't seem to have enough as well to cover for one year tuition
Me: Like i said earlier the one year tuition will come for both parties and not just one person. I also have savings myself
VO: I will be putting your application under administrative processing for now, She hands me the yellow paper and write admin processing on it
Me: How long before a decision is made? Meanwhile she kept both financial statements and my passport with her, but returned my I-20
VO: I can't tell, but you will receive an email in that regards
Me: Thank you. (Then started to head out)

Feeling very disappointed i called my people and told them the outcome of the interview and they were very positive that they (VOs) probably needed to do more verification on the accounts i presented. A few hours letter, my mum confirmed from her account manager that an email came from the Embassy regarding her account statement i presented. Well my bro did not get any verification on his account.

BTW..... I saw about 6 applicants but i can't for sure say any of us got a approval yesterday

Today i decided to check my passport status since i was yet to receive any email as to what next, i saw a REFUSAL

I would be reapplying again but most likely lagos this time. Kindly go through my transcripts and let me know what i can do better next time

Hello Ma/sir...i posted a question and I got a reply from the admin and am sorry about that but my answer wasn't answered..and I don't feel welcome...that was my first time of messaging....My question is **am a graduate of IT,I studied in India and I back home to process a US visa to study (liberal art and science)..Which is far different from my degree course..Secondly the admission I got was of associate degree....What do you advise me to say when the question comes up...tnx

I saw your post on the other thread, but couldn't reply you there because its only the Visa Officer that replies there.
With what I'm seeing up there, you have a lot of work to do.

Why would you apply for an associate degree after getting a Bsc in India?

Why are you going for liberal art and science after graduating in IT?

Did you go thru the process yourself or you used an agent?

I don't even know what to advise because your story don't sound straight. I wish you all the best

People should stop panicking unnecessarily about POE. The rules are clear and it's a public knowledge. NOT MORE THAN 30 DAYS BEFORE THE START OF YOUR PROGRAM

the other guy that posted his cousin's friend issue is just creating unnecessary tension. How will someone travel to US months after the resumption date and expect not to be turned back?

Just makesure you travel according to the stated rules and you will be fine. Makesure you are with your I-20 and other necessary documents too. It's not as difficult as people portray it to be as long as your name has not been on any kind of redflag in the CBP database.

Relax guys!!!

I explained the whole sevis payment to him but still he wasn't convinced. He asked for my ID and after playing with his computer for some minutes, he told me he couldn't make the payment. I felt embarrassed but I didn't wanna cause a scene, I just walked away and went to another place to make the payment.
