Politics › Re: Nigeria At 61: Colonial Masters Plundered Our Resources – Abdulsalami Abubakar by OmoManU: 3:22pm On Oct 01, 2021 |
Reflect7: SHUT UP. HE IS SAYING THE TRUTH. Oyinbo asss licker.
The British ruled for 80 years, exporting our resources, and at the end we did not have a single power plant or university or expressway or industry.
Kainji dam was our first power plant, commissioned by the Balewa administration in 1964.
Prior to that the British merely imported a few industrial generators to power the GRAs they were living in, while the rest of Nigeria used lanterns and candles.
Nigeria was a near total bush in 1960 at independence with mass illiteracy and malnutrition.
What did your 'perfect white man' do with the trillions he made from our exports in 80 years?
You are VERY LUCKY we gained independence in 1960 which led to mass education investment by the black govts.
Or else by now you would be hunting cockroaches and tapping palm wine in the bush like your illiterate grandpa did under colonial rule. I guess it's right time we have this conversation we have been seriously trying to dodge. I totally agreed with this poster , yes we have problems no doubts but are we where we used to be, hell no! Are things moving at the rate at which they're meant to be moving, hell no too. Let's start from Abuja FCT, at independence that's a totally a place not inexistence at all except but little villages, huts and hamlets, today Abuja is a world class city. Lagos, no Victoria Island, Lekki was a swamp, no FESTAC at independence, today we know what we have in those places, and the same thing can be said of every cities and towns across all the 36 states of Nigeria. Population we were just about around 30 million or so at independence, today over 200 million no country under this planet earth has been able to achieve such massive population growth in the last 60 years, tho it has its pros and cons. Education, from only 1 varsity in 1960 to over 100 or more today, let's forget mushrooms or not, they can be built upon. Many cities and towns in 1960 does not have electricity at all, tho today still epileptic but there's electricity and civilization. We just can go and on about the development that we have achieved as a nation even tho it might be at a very very slow rate but we're developing and we can do more. At this point, I think it's high time we just sit down and have honest discussions within ourselves either to stay together or dissolve. Nigeria, Biafra, Oduduwa land, Arewa and other parts of Nigeria shall be great Happy Independence. |

Klass99: Thank you for saying this. The hardship Buahri/APC has brought upon the land is so bad, a lot of folks now use their private vehicles for town service to supplement their income.
I have seen a woman using her Sienna to pick passengers along the road in VI on her way home, after work hours. Interestingly, I saw the same woman on a different day picking up passengers in the morning on my way to work. Every now and then, I see her in traffic or at bus-stops picking up passengers and I think to myself the hustle is real.
One Uber ride I used last week blew my mind to pieces, it was a very clean and neat Venza. So, fresh and clean I was even afraid to enter I looked at the car description on my app, to make sure the plate number matched the vehicle in front of me and it did. In the course of my trip the driver and I started gisting due to a radio programme we were listening to. Then I found out he had lost his job with Chevron and was using his vehicle for Uber to hold things down.
The people saying he should have known better than to enter a private car, are so naive and clueless about the realities on ground now. Moreover, that robbery incident was well planned, such that, even if you claim to be street smart or an alaye, they would have still scammed you. Planting part of the crew in a crowd of passengers awaiting a ride to work, would never have alerted anyone to the danger lurking round the corner nah!
I dey taya for people ITK on these streets, I swear ! Even the plan of planting crew amongst passengers would work if not private vehicle but danfo because someone would have easily believe it's just the regular ones, may God just keep guiding us all |

Terrence99: So, it is because of 100k he should join the Army? Money that can't buy good Tecno phone. Out of the 3 branches of the Armed forces, it is only the army that has its soldiers complain about welfare. To attract the best, welfare must be a priority. Nobody argues about better welfare, of course it has to be better but realistically right now, I don't just want to be so precise because I don't have exact info at hand but about 6 years ago that I'm aware of, the starting salary for a 2nd lieutenant in the Nigeria Army was like 160k, maybe he don increase now sef and that's minus other allowances and benefits, if you want to argue it, non of those armed forces unit u r mentioning are actually enjoying in the right sense of it or let's even say the whole of the Nigerian civil service system, btw how many organizations in Nigeria even pays in the excess of 100k sef, bro u no get point |

Different strokes for different folks op u get that, many guys are in the army doing short service and doing wonderfully well.
