PhonesConserving Your Data Usage(modem USERS) by onegig(op): 6:51pm On Mar 14, 2013
In situations whereby you have capped subscription. Here's how to conserve your data balance on windows systems.

Here are some tips:

Avoid ‘data rich’ sites that contain streaming videos, large pictures, animation.
Turn of Automatic windows updates. Here's how to turn off automatic updates.
Open Windows Update by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, clicking All Programs, and then clicking Windows Update.
In the left pane, click Change settings.
Choose the option "Notify me about updates but don't download"
4. Click on ok or apply and you are done.
Check for viruses as they can eat into your data allowance. If you use avast, avg and the rest disable automatic updates as these updates gulp a large chunk of your data balance.
Don’t use file-sharing/torrent sites. When you use file sharing or torrent applications on your system, you are inadvertently consuming large swats of your data balance as these applications share existing files you have with numerous users thereby costing you examples of this files are bitTorrent, uttorent and the rest.. Goodluck!

PhonesBlackberry Z10 Camera: The Worst Low-light Performance We’ve Seen In A Long Time by onegig(op): 1:08pm On Mar 14, 2013
For the old BlackBerry, a handset's camera was an ancillary feature. But the new hip BlackBerry is supposed to be tuned into how regular people—not just suits—use their phones. The BlackBerry Z10's camera has a chance to prove it's better than the rest. And if our initial low-light camera test is any indication, the camera is a complete failure.

When you're in a dark bar or out on the town at night making memories with your co-workers/friends/family you want your smartphone camera to take a nice photo without having to use flash. This is what low-light performance is all about. As we saw the last time we put a series of flagship phones together, handset shooters have come a long way.

To see if the BlackBerry Z10 could keep up with the pack, we tested its low-light performance against the Apple iPhone 5, Nokia Lumia 920, and Samsung Galaxy S III. We put it to a pretty tough test, burying the above novelty statue in the deepest darkest corner of the office. We didn't use any flash, but if a camera came with built-in night or low-light setting we tried it out to see if it worked better than the automatic setting.

The Z10 didn't even hold the dimmest, most-pathetic light to the other cameras in our test. Look at that photo above on the left. It is an abject and miserable failure. Because this is a particularly difficult shooting setting, all of the photos have problems with noise, distortion, and detail, but we've haven't seen something so crummy as the Z10 in a long time. The Z10 even has a "night" setting that was completely useless. This is some four-years-ago crap.

We've still got some more testing to do with the cameras before we crown a winner—and before we write the Z10 off completely—but this initial test doesn't bode well.

To install Windows 7 using the Custom option without formatting the hard disk

Setup should start automatically. If it doesn't, click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click Computer, double-click your DVD drive to open the Windows 7 installation disc, and then double-click setup.exe.

ComputersGetting The Most Out Of Your Laptop Battery by onegig(op): 10:44am On Mar 14, 2013
Yes!!! Congratulations!!! You have done it. The first man from your village to buy a brand new computer system. I know the feeling, the feeling of elation, that feeling that yes you have conquered and arrived.

Although you are all smiles now but I know it has not been easy toiling the length and breadth of the country contributing daily esusu from your “menstrual salary” for so long and now you have landed the bouncing baby laptop.
However my bloda, it’s not yet Uhuru. I know you must have taken the system to your pastor, Woli, Daddy GO, Imam or Dibia to help you bless it and cast away the evil spirits that might want to rub you of your laptop and I can see that the laptop is still shimmering from the holy water sprinkled all over it.
But here’s a fact, the Holy water might mesmerize the Agberos eyes to think your laptop is a bag full of Garri Ijebu but sorry bro the Holy water will not prevent you from destroying the system by the reckless way you handle your laptop and battery.

I have heard tales of people complaining about how they bought their systems within three months back but now the batteries can not hold power for more than 25 minutes before the laptop shuts down.
Every battery has a designed capacity—basically the amount of charge that it's designed to hold. Over time batteries lose their ability to hold a charge. It’s however important to take care of your battery to make sure you get the most life out of it. Some of the telltale signs that your battery is going bad are shorter use times, and subsequently, shorter times to recharge.

What can we now do to get the most of our battery life?

Here’s a list to help you get more out of your battery.
1. Only use a charger and power cord supplied by the manufacturer. In cases of burnt chargers make sure you get a replacement with the same voltage rating.

2. Don't let your battery get too hot (or too cold). A hot battery is a sign of trouble and usually means that your battery isn't working properly. You should stop using it right away. Also, make sure that your battery isn't exposed to extreme temperatures. Batteries are designed to work best at room temperatures. Your battery loses it’s capacity when hot.

3. Use your battery to keep it fresh. Don't keep your computer plugged in all the time.

4. It's a good idea to discharge totally and then recharge your laptop battery about once a month.

5. When using your system normally you should let your battery run down to an average of 30-40% before you recharge it or connect the charger.

6. For gamers, It’s preferable to play games while you are connected directly to a power source(i.e. you have removed your battery.) Due to the excessive heat been generated while you play games. Also avoid using your laptops where there’s poor ventilation like in congested rooms or placing your laptop on foams or on your sofa. By doing this you are blocking the air vents and thus causing excessive heat and further damaging your battery and the system.

7. You are going on a trip and won’t be using your system for long periods. Charge your battery to 70%, shut down and remove the battery and keep it wrapped in a location with normal room temperature. Avoid using (or even storing) batteries in extreme temperature conditions. Keeping your laptop battery in your car hood is a very bad idea.

8. Do not discharge your battery totally so often as once you discharge your battery totally you lose about 2-4% of it’s totally capacity. Lets say you totally discharge your battery 5 times in a day due to you playing your favourite games while there’s no light source you are risking loosing your total battery capacity in few months time.

9. Reduce the battery consumption on your system by disabling excessive screen-savers, unused applications and dimming the screen brightness. You may also click on the battery and select the Power saver mode to reduce battery consumption.

CultureAre Gadgets Taking Us Away From Real Social Discussions? by onegig(op): 1:11pm On Mar 07, 2013
It's no news that gadgets like Smart phones , portable computers , Ipads are the happening things in our society and this gadgets have allowed social connections to be more easier as people don't need to visit physically their friends and family before communicating and with apps from facebook, twitter, whatsapp and 2go communication is more cheaper and cost effective .

However, as much as these things are good and fantastic ideas are they really taking away real socials discussions from people? Gone are the days when you are on a bus ride you get to chat up with fellow commuters but now people are just so busy with their gadgets. A friend narrated how bad he felt when he was in bus travelling down to the east and the lady sitting next to him was totally oblivious of his existence apart from the greetings they shared at the start of the journey all through the 7-8 hours journey the girl was starring at her phone and just smiling to herself thus shutting out the people in her surroundings and hindering healthful social connections or talk.

Also, I have always had to seize friends’ phones or tell them to keep it in their pockets when we go outing. What's the essence of us sharing a moment while all through that period you are staring at your phone and leaving physical based conversations out?

Communication is not only about sending texts or calling but what about your body language, eye movements, the way you say the words and the pitch the words were delivered all these makes communication not only interesting but also effective.
Question : Are these gadgets taking us away from real physical discussions?

ComputersIs Your System Too Slow? Here's The Help You Need by onegig(op):
In the present world a computer is not a thing of luxury but that of necessity and this items do cost us a handful but seriously how do we go about maintaining them..

In recent times I have been besieged by people seeking help for their systems and laptops. They complain my system is too slow and take considerable time to load programs and doing simple tasks like opening a web browser takes minutes. We live in a fast paced world and you may wonder if it is worth computing at all if you have to consider how long it takes to do anything.

The truth is by default when your computer arrives it has many services and unneeded programs that can be turned off or deleted without harm. Also with a machine that has slowed over time, many things can be done to improve the speed.
So follow us on a little tweaking of your system to ensure maximum speed.

First, make sure you have Enough Memory

To check what is your system memory go to
Choose Start Button → Computer → System properties
With Windows 7 and Vista, you really should have at least 1 GB of memory and 2 GB is a more comfortable amount. Installing a new RAM is a fairly easy thing to do but you need to identify what type of RAM your computer uses before buying upgrades. We have many types of RAM like SDRAM, DDRAM and so on. You can check what type of RAM you use by following these steps on this link

http://onegig..com/2013/06/determine-what-type-of-memory-your.html

Be Sure To Clean Up Your Desktop

It's funny when i see clients have their desktop screen filled with files and folders ranging from large movie files to all kinds of programs and shortcuts. If you have a lot of big files there, that means there's trouble. It's better to open your documents folder and copy those large document files to the my document folder also copy all movie files and other unwanted folders to their appropriate locations, they don't belong on the desktop. Only leave important shortcuts that you need on the desktop screen.

Uninstall Those Unneeded Applications To Free Up Memory

Yes uninstall those unneeded programs. Ever wondered why your system is so slow when you have as much as 100 different software running. I once repaired the system of a lecturer of mine and he had software ranging from audacity, chicken invaders, football manager to virtual dj. I was like what the hell and quote me he has never used any of those applications. Also it's common amongst users to have as much as 3-5 different software serving the same purpose. A client brought a slow system to me and this is what I found.
For music alone he had iTunes, Real player, VLC, Gom player, Windows media player and zoom player all this serving the same purpose. My suggestion is choose a maximum of two and uninstall the rest; they only contribute to the slowing of your system. To learn how to uninstall a program click here.

Keep Your Antivirus Up to Date and Scan Your Disks
It's like refusing to change your car oil but expecting maximum performance. When you don't regularly update your antivirus program and do a full scan of your computer.
I do recommend a full scan once in two weeks if you use your system heavily. Another thing people using cracked antivirus software need to know is, it does more harm than good to your system. If you don't have an up to date antivirus program, and don't want to pay for a new one there are several high quality free ones available. Personally i will recommend Microsoft security essentials.
Click the link below to get more info about Microsoft security essentials.
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/security-essentials-download

Also I have seen people having two, three antivirus on the same system. The truth is friend it is not healthy as they run scans simultaneously and eat away resources meant to be used for running other system software.
And lastly to minimize resources your antivirus takes while running you can set it to always scan your system at nights or at periods you know you don’t usually use it that much lets say Sundays by 6Am or whatever suits you.

Stop Unneeded Startup Programs
New installation of software often adds unneeded startup entries in any of several different hidden locations. These programs will start when Windows starts and take up resources. The best way to do this is to follow the steps:

Press the windows key + r on your keyboard. I.e. Press the windows key and r at the same time. When the run page pops up by the bottom left corner. Type in msconfig and press enter key. Once the msconfig page comes up click the STARTUP tab and uncheck all unfamiliar things listed except items such as antivirus, wireless , Bluetooth and graphics driver(igfx) all others should be unchecked. Click apply when done. Restart your system and you should notice the difference.

Defragment Your Hard Drive Regularly
Windows Vista and 7 now includes an automatic defragment system that is enabled by default. However if you are not sure and want to set it manually start by choosing Start → Programs → Accessories → System Tools → Disk Defragmenter.
This should be done once in 2 months if possible and the process normally take several hours. So again do it at night or while you are at work and not using your pc.

Remove Those Unneeded Files
Hard disk begins to fragment files noticeably and slow down after passing the 50% full mark. For this reason, it is said that the single most important investment one can make to improve the performance of a PC is to purchase the largest hard drive possible. This situation will change with the advent of solid state hard drives as the files don't fragment meaningfully in these sorts of devices. At any rate if you have a hard drive and it's over 50% full, use a program like CCleaner or Microsoft's disk utility to get rid of unneeded files. Also uninstalling unneeded software can improve performance for disk space reasons and because programs often install right click options which disappear after uninstalling. This is valuable because menus are often built on the fly and take time to rebuild each time you open them. With fewer options there's faster performance.
Also i personally advice my clients to get CCleaner , it's one hell of a good cleaning software .
Here's the link to download CCleaner. go to www.piriform.com and select download ccleaner. choose download the free version.

Turn Off those Animations and designer mouse buttons.
I thought armed robbers where around when I started a friends system and all i heard on startup where gunshots and booming sounds of landmines.WTF!! It's commonplace to see different animations or programs on our system. Very common amongst us are the desktop screensavers we have and the girl dancing by the bottom right corner of most systems, but if you must know this brother, it slows your system down considerably. Also remove those annoying toolbars and never download an application just for the sake of downloading without understanding what it is used for.
The normal mouse pointers are okay, you don’t need a hand pointing to and clapping when you want to click something, to restore default mouse options go to control panel-mouse-under the pointers tab click use default, press ok and you are done.

Turn Off Fancy Desktop Backgrounds, and Screensavers
Elaborate background pictures and fancy screensavers can take up an enormous amount of
RAM memory and Hard disk space. Also windows gadgets have been know to slow down system considerably. if you happen to use Vista or Win 7 close all the windows gadgets by clicking the red x close button by the top right corner. They have also been know to be a source of malicious attacks as third party developers have used gadgets to steal or pass viruses on to unsuspecting users. That's why gadgets won't be shipping with windows 8.

Good luck. If you have any further questions you can contact me here or check the blog link below for more updates..

Why can't we join hands and build something out of scratch?

This thread would be about this- Getting minds here to talk and positively create something like a start up biz,

We would be presenting great ideas and seek ways of funding of such. so please If you are interested just signify here.
