JAWBONE:Aregbe has never been good for Osun. His socialist government was a disaster. At the start it made sense to build infrastructure but infrastructure should be tied to growth and development. Not infrastructure into debt and huge ton of financial recklessness. That's what Aregbe did. I can give you numerous examples. The dualisation of that Osogbo -Gbongan road at 29 Billion naira as at 2012 (factor in inflation now) and it is about 60Billion naira for a road without any economic value. There are no industries on the road or any large scale farming. What the road needed was resurfacing in major areas and not dualisation. Anytime i travel that road. I can count on my fingers how many cars passes through. Till today that road is incomplete and billions down the drain. I am sure he used it to sipphon money. The other projects Oyes , ofood, o-whatever were just brainless. You are paying graduates 10k monthly to cut grass and sweep roads when you can use this same money to upskill them to fend for themselves. Don't let me even talk about improverishing people due to capital flight. That contract to Sam and Sam as the sole contractor for the purchase of school uniform was nothing but wicked. You definitely knew it was for political patronage. I cannot wrap my head how a so called Governor would purposely kill local mom and pop shops. Award the whole contract for sewing, buying uniform material of a whole state to one single contractor which never had a single presence in the state and barred any other business from importing or sewing same. I can go on and on about his economic policies. He should never have been a local government chairman let alone Governor. |
zealousayo:When i say Nigerians are their problems. It is a fact. We can never grow. This same civil servants issues. Civil servant state without anything to show for it. Just paying salaries. Civil servants are one of the biggest problems of Osun. Wish that state could get a governor with half a good brain and cut the civil service by half . Half of them are doing nothing especially those in Ministries and Local governments. They go there just to warm chairs and wait for the end of the month to receive salaries. You cannot move them to other jobs because they don't have the skills and would not skill up and would be the first to carry placards to protest at the slightest mention of a test. The civil service is a mafia in Nigeria. Half would not last 3months in a private entity without getting multiple queries and eventual sack because of none existent KPIs. Ogo ta , ogo o ta, Owo alaru a pe. Na the doctors, teachers, nurses under the state government i just pity. The collective uselessness of the other sectors would never allow them get their dues. Una go dey alright though. Like I said, Nigerians want development but they abdicate their personal responsibilities. As for the incoming Governor. All the best. Two things would happen. He eithers borrows his way to satisfy the endless list of "people" who think they had a hand in his election and waiting for their reward and also tries deliver on infrastructure while plunging the state into more debt. Or he does the sane thing of cutting off the leeches and run more prudently. Saving the state but putting himself in bad spotlight with his so called "open the vault" and "spend the" supporters (money that is non existent). We all know what he would do. So good luck to osun people. Hopefully a miracle happens, some oil sprouts out from the ground and wins the state billions of dollars in Revenue. Or probably the people would sit up one day and note that genuine development comes from them applying themselves with a bit of support from government. Osogbo has almost 24 hours light in the last 30 years. The only existing industries are pure water factories, shopping complexes and Petrol stations. I thought the general notion in Nigeria was that electricity has been the bane of underdevelopment. |
A lot of you read too much meaning to local elections. Osun PDP and APC have always been strong. They both have their supporters. Margin of victory is always around 20k votes which doesn't really portend that a party is strong or weak. And they are always dynamic. Same people who chased out AKande and brought in Oyinlola. Chased out same Oyinlola and brought in Aregbe. When Aregbe was incoming you would think the party would rule for 50 years but same people who voted Aregbe have gone back to vote PDP. Should tell you their elections are very dynamic and no single Party holds sway. I am sure if APC holds their team well and Adeleke doesn't really perform(hopefully he does) but I don't see him do much and the song MIGHT likely change. (The debt profile to available resources,) is extremely low and Osun is mostly a civil servant state where the people are averse to changing their style and hit the ground running but want a bouyant government that would doll out the cash in austere times. So don't really read too much meaning to this for National elections. You can quote this and come back in 2023 and verify such. |
The stupidity in this thread is the Netflix , hulu for me. Like $20 subscription na im you dey carey for head. If anything. That shows you this person is as fake as anything. You want a lady in North America to fall for Netflix and Hulu? French? Guy go rewrite your scam script. This one no work. |
SIRTee15:Don't let his obedient followers catch you. As usual people vying for office thinking they would just go there and talk something and everyone would start following such rules. No radical policies, no foresight as regards the realities of governance. They think governance is done in Silos. I can assure you the first 1 year of an Obi's government might be spent striking. Nigerians are bunch of gullible people. They keep falling for same scam. They think piety comes from living a frugal life and that qualifies someone for the highest office. Yeah we have a big issue with big government and wasteful spending but that's like 2% of the issues bedeviling the country. The major issue of the country is that we don't pay the real cost of almost everything and expect excellent service delivery. A whole house pays about N500 in a month for lawma fees and expect excellent service delivery and at such ridiculously low fees a lot still won't pay such fees. We pay 45Naira per kwh and expect 247 power delivery without looking at the associated cost of generating power and transmission. But same people would power their house using generator and spend an average of 2000 per day on fuel cost or (N60,000/month) with all the generator noise and fumes and stress of maintenance. Let Nepa deliver a bill of 20k per month after average of 8 hours per day to the same set of people and you would see them shouting themselves hoarse about how NEPA are theives and whatnot. No where in the wolrd would you expect to pay $100 per session in University fees and expect quality education and here our Messiah is stating he would divert subsidy money from one form of welfarism to another. They live in an eldorado and would never face the reality of things. In 2011 It was I had no shoes and trekked 20km to school. In 2015, It was he had only a single account with a bank. Didn't have money for forms and owned only a single house in Duara. In 2023. It is my son does not have a car. I saved money. I join Economy class when flying and carry my bag alone. They would be alright. Instead of asking critical questions as regards how these critical issues facing us can be solved, nah they hear some soundbites here and there and believe that magically solves all the issues. |
ednut1:Honestly. A lot of suffering from the poverty mentality in this country and it is seemingly from the so called educated people and youths with. I had crusie control on my car but I still had to control when to turn it off and brake . Drove a newer version with adaptable cruise control and motion sensor and wow. That thing was pure heaven for driving. The adaptable suspension was just something else. Also lots of Nigerians don't consider things like safety, better engine designs. Imagine someone comparing a car from 2003 with one from 2022 in terms of safety? You are 100% likely to die in an accident while driving a 2003 Corolla than a 2015 Corolla. Facts. They want to discard decards of R& in terms of better engine performance and emission control because of cars fending off potholes? It is interesting how Nigerians think. |
Appleyard:100% Ngierian government is corrupt but we cant rule out questioning the intergrity of such equipment built in 1979 that has not worked for a single day. Even if Dangote was given such for free. I am 100% sure he is stripping it and building from scratch. Why would you want to upgrade the engine of a 40 year old contraption? When you have newer and efficient technologies in steel mining and rolling now? |
mamawa123:Anyone who has followed this would know Russia was just giant on paper with nukes and extreme corruption. They just think throwing bodies and mass of equipment is what wins war in the 21st century. Look at the best car they have been able to produce? The Lada, absolute contraption like something from 1930. Hopefully this tells war should show Nigerian Politicians to stop Investing billions into reviving Ajaokuta, that thing was a junk built by Russians. 2 Trillion naira would not bring that ish back. Rather cut our losses and scrap the metal and move on. Hopefully all these fan boys of Russia mouthing off here would go get some work and reposition their lives. Wish Nairaland would just ban those trolls. |
Likely SUID. Baby probably slept on its stomach , face down and blocked it's breathing path. Very heartbreaking |
Put her in a creche. The pandemic affected children's psych alot . Especially those who were born during the period of WFH. They lived in a house where it is only the mum and dad they see daily so their world revolves around those two people. Also this is an age where their understanding of time is still non existent. So they can't measure that daddy is coming back. So they tend to cling so as not to lose you. Once she starts getting to meet other kids and faces she would calm down. Also, if you have family members like parents or younger siblings who are free you can sllow them come stay with you for some months. It is essential they sleep over. That gives her comfort that they are "trusted". Kids are weird . Lol. With the variety of faces she sees from this. She would relax a bit. |
WoundedLamb:Thank you so much for this. A lot of young people without people skills. Why the need for a uselss confrontation? "Oh , apologies. I didn't see you" and you go on your merry way. |
babaolofin:Money can be a crazy motivator. Anyways, i hope MTN in the interest of all parties does a thorough investigation and use the findings to create better corporate governance rules to avoid such reoccurring. |
Not absolving him of any wrong doing but if you do a due diligence now, you might discover this is a vendor that wasn't given a job fighting back using their in house contacts. From the write up you can sense this isn't really about sexual harassment but about the office he covers. I may be wrong but the writing is on the wall. |
Rollsnjaguar:He should go ahead and use Nuclear weapons.. So much of a super power on paper that you have to threaten your next neighbor with nuclear arms because you are getting your ass beaten. Super power that hundreds of tanks are breaking up few miles in. All you ignorant dolts on Nairaland spewing rubbish. Russia this, Russian that. Should wake up and ask what has this incursion gained for Putin? EU is more united. Germany that has been foot dragging about spending on Arms is spending x10 of their military budget in a single year just announced in a matter of days. Finland and Sweden speeding up their addition to NATO... Sanctions completely crippling the Russian economy and even some East Asian countries joining in to put sanctions on Russia. Thousands of Russian soldiers dead, tanks and equipment destroyed. So what has he gained exactly? One would think with all the hype you guys give him he would know better than to invade a sovereign nation. If the Russian military and tank performance in Ukraine is anything to go by. I can see why Ajaokuta steel mill has never worked. Useless set of decrepit machines they sold Nigeria. Super power on paper with absolute ass lickers in government. |
Asquare84:Tact. Tact. Tact. There is office politics everywhere you go. Your concern should be 100% on delivering the job. If your SOP requires someone sends a monthly request. Call them first to ask that their reports is due and you would appreciate if they can send it to you. There is a way you can speak with authority but still respect the receiver of the request. I have had to make requests from people far and above my level. Call ahead and ask them. Then follow up with an email after the time they promised delivery. It comes with managing your job responsibilities. If there is a project, call them first and get their input. Respect each person, their thought processes and argue only on t*he facts and not the persons opinion. You need to be very open and flexible about things. Anyone of them that does a bit of work positively or shows alignment to your goals. Try publicly praising them for the job. You have to overcompensate. Your success in that role would hinge on handling/managing all conflicting emotions and egos. Don't start off with sending queries up and down. You would set yourself up for a toxic work environment and i can guarantee you. You would not gain much traction with such. |
Believe Nigeria Police Force at your own Peril . Worst set of liars on earth |
Emmnk:Very easy. What the requirements state is you should be able to show proof that you have certain amount of money and should keep it till PR which takes an average of 6months to process. The circumstances around why it exceeded those timeframes was beyond you and IRCC'S control. Your application is more than 2 years old and definitely no one would expect you to put your life on hold keeping money for a PR process that has exceeded it's agreed timeline. Do a Letter of Explanation when submitting the evidence citing why the initial one was pulled. You withdrew it back to buy a car or whatever you used the money for(pay for an emergency hospital bill for a family member, funeral for a family member, supplement your business finances because of the Pandemic ) . State you did this after a year of not getting any feedback and nothing happened from their end. Provide proof of such transactions. Next is to do a gift deed for the bulk money you have now and attach that as your new POF or if you had to resell something to raise the cash..then go on and provide the evidence for such. The most important thing is that you now have the funds and it isn't a loan or something alike and you provide evidences for such transactions. |
It is actually interesting how many Nigerians do not understand basic Finance. A house you live in is not an asset. It can only be an asset when it is an income generating business or the value you get in return year in year out far outweighs the cost you pay to rent a house. First in this scenario, building a house is a lose-lose. With whatever money he is saving(3000*30days=90,000*24months) N2,160,000. I am sure he is going to be building a house in an extremely remote area of Abuja if not a village completely outside of Abuja. I.e means he is going to be far away from his potential customers which means extended travel times, potential loss of customers and patronage because of distance. This is very valid. We don't give jobs out to a backup HVAC technician anymore because he moved to Ikorodu. His lead time was way above what we could accommodate(we needed someone who could come in in 30 to 1hour max during a need) and i am sure he must have lost other potential customers because of same. Even if he rents out the house, i am sure a house in such remote areas with the funds used to build would not fetch him more than 150k in a year as rent. Compare that to the stress he is undergoing, risk of accidents, loss of income and no one needs to tell you to get the car to enhance your business needs. A car used to facilitate a business or means of income is part of cost of doing business and not a "liability". As long as the cost of purchase and maintenance is not above the "expected returns" from such enhancement. @bluntdude |
Can't imagine what would push someone to the point they would want to saboteur your work to the point of calling your boss or shouting when you are on an official Teams meeting. Like seriously? So that means if you had an issue with her and you had a physical meeting in the office she wouldn't mind barging in to cause ruckus? That person has mental issues and isn't in the right frame of mind. Even my worst enemy wouldn't try to do that. That's beyond evil for someone you are married to. They want to cause you pain so bad she has no limits. Please take her for psychiatric evaluation. That's not how a sane human behaves . |
Caseless:The above mirrors some of my challenges with them. I only used them then when i needed to do transactions that needed visiting a bank branch since i knew they would have the least queue. ![]() They needed to understand that the current generation are extremely impatient and want things on the go. They don't care for brand loyalty and history. So recurrent hitches is a big turn off and the little customers they have would move business. |
iboboyswag:Doubt anything was wrong with them just their understanding of the problems and the way they approached resolving it. Personally i think they just tried way too much to innovate and bring in young people and that really didn't work because they half assed it. No one cares how young your tellers and analysts are if that doesn't turn out to innovative products. For example, look at their mobile banking app. Other Banks like Gtb, Zenith , Access had sleek platforms that ran on very fast and intuitive platforms as far back as 2011 or even earlier. Union bank for all the wrong reasons in the world opted for an etranzact based platform. I have never had a good time with etranzact and it didn't take me more than 3 weeks to dump the Union Bank account and app i opened some 3 to 4 years ago. To buy recharge cards was war, sometimes checking balance or making transfers was hectic as the service was always offline or just threw up errors. Also the GUI was extremely basic and wasn't user friendly. Also go to NYSC camps, universities and other higher institutions, Union bank is non existent. Those are the next generation of the labour force , how are they tapping into such markets? In the last one year I can't remember ever sending money to a Union Bank account and i do lots of transactions. Even Old Banks like Wema have levelled up and changed that "old skool" perception about their brand. We all know 95% of Nigerian Banks are more into retail banking and not investment in the real sector of the economy so I doubt where Union was expecting to make money from. Hopefully the new investors would be able to steer the bank to the right direction. Leaner overhead and more remote products. |
Pearlmadeit:Sorry to hear that this was a bit hard But honestly looking at the topic, it is actually a straightforward argumentative essay. For the first point, State taxes are sometimes used to curb businesses from doing things in a way and force them to innovate. Give examples of single use plastics and how such taxes have made more businesses to use more bio degradable materials for packaging. Now go into details of industrial pollution, like sewage issues, air pollution. Give examples and state what increased taxes would do to curb such. Cite examples of Volkswagen and how they were given heavy penalties and how they were forced to recall thousands of cars for cheating on their car emissions tests and how this has affected their brand and sales worldwide. For the counter, state things like carbon tax or incentive, mention things like ESGs, legislation by government to include criminal purnishments for going against industrial pollution regulations. Give examples for both. Then give two paragraphs of sitting on the fence stating you believe a combination of both would work in reducing industrial pollution. ![]() I think once you map out the topic in your head and lay down the points you need to talk about. It shouldn't be really that hard to flow through and come up with something good. Best wishes though . I hope the results come out very good for you guys |
ShenTeh:It's agonizing bro. You would think easy access to information would help literacy but nah we just have lots of misinformed people happily swimming in ignorance. One has to chip in once in a while else Nairaland would just be filled with such misinformation and the sad thing is lots of young impressionable people come here for information and such gibberish might actually shape their thoughts if not corrected. |
SeriouslySense:Lol. We don't debate to win arguments. Is there a cash prize at the end? The country with the most skillful, young and dynamic population would be the one to win the current economic race. And Nigeria is actually doing extremely badly in such areas. I have seen people looking for Laravel developers with take home of N1M or more per month but couldn't find the right candidates. The ones with the skills have been lured by these same UK. And that's the theme in almost all IT, health and even lots of non IT jobs. |
SeriouslySense:They don't have substitutes . Go and look at their birth rates(which is extremely low) and average working population(they have an ageing working population) . They need immigrants more to be able to to sustain their economy. Robots and automation yeah... But that's more like 20 to 30 years from now and even as at then. You would need someone programming those AI? |
Sterope:I honestly have not read much into and wouldn't want to speculate but if that was one of their reasons then they just took 1 step forward and 5 step back. US and Canada would grab such opportunities. Intl students asides the cultural diversity and intellect they bring in are one critical area any country would want to attract by all means. I don't think the Uk is stupid enough to go that route. For instance, all Intl students contributed $22 billion in 2019 to Canada's economy and helped sustain over 170,000 jobs. That's not a small number and a sizeable chunk of those are definitely Nigerians. |
SeriouslySense:I don't need to tell you anything. Truck drivers not relevant? Key aspect of your suplly chain process not Relevant? Goods would just disappear from manufacturers to the citizens households? Off the top of my hand , i can count nothing less than 14 nurses and health workers that i personally know who left for the UK. Let alone over 100 colleagues who have left Nigeria in the last one year to fill roles that are hard to fill by the UK. That should tell you what it actually means. Also If the UK Deputy High Commissioner is putting out communications and articles to try clarify that it was for "scientific reasons" just to "douse the tension" and remove the need for such retaliatory acts by Nigeria. That should tell you all you need to know about who would feel the needless ban and counter ban more. Also maybe you tell the UK to stop being childish as banning flights from select countries if you allow others in isn't a good way of actually stopping the variant spreading as we have known. Only effective way is you ban all countries. |
SeriouslySense:Facts actually differ to what you state. If anything you are the one who sounds moronic. Nigerians are the 5th largest nationality providing manpower to the UK's NHS. Let the country close its borders for such flights and see how extremely hard the UK would be hit. Just Truck drivers shortage is what they had recently that they went into a frenzy. Wait till they have a significant number of their manpower sources dry off in the middle of a pandemic. Over 10k Nigerians work in the NHS. (Image 1) In 2019 to 2020 academic session the UK lost about 29% of students from Nigeria to other countries. Here's a think tank strategizing on how the UK can win back those students and increase enrollment from Nigeria. https://monitor.icef.com/2021/09/measuring-the-economic-impact-of-foreign-students-in-the-uk-and-the-countrys-competitive-position-in-international-recruitment/ Don't let me even talk about the number of Nigerians currently filling positions in many skills that are in shortage in the UK even to the point that they are offering Nigerians with such skilla full sponsorship and £4000 pounds if anyone they recommends emigrates to the UK and spends 3 months with the companies. If you know nothing. STFU. Why do you think they introduced Post study work permits recently asides Brexit?

@op. Every business needs Risk Management. That was one recurring theme in all your pursuits. You never did your home work. There are lots of things you should consider when setting up a biz but the most important thing is safety of your goods. You seem to be the carefree type and felt doing things the hard way or "hustling" or "rudged" your way through things would bring you success . 1. You were going to deliver nylons and didn't even do a safety check of the area you were going? Yeah, no one expect Sars to pick you up, but i wouldn't be caught walking about around Mile 2 under bridge or Anthony under bridge at 9pm. 2. You were going to sell soap but never considered where to keep the soap in the eventuality of rain or change in weather. Were you expecting to carry the soap around till you finished selling? What if you needed a week to complete selling? Did you factor in the probability of that? Did you test the market with a few pieces and sampled opinions before going all the way down? One pattern i can detect from your story is you just follow people's lead about doing businesses without carrying out due diligence about what the efforts and expected returns are. I hope you try and do more soul searching. Businesses are tough to run but they are much more tougher and you would burn your hands if the basic motivating factor is to "find" something to do and make money. What value are you adding? What makes yours different? Also how alive are you to the factors affecting your business surroundings? |
DrTee1:Pained? Why would i? I am more disgusted and feel absolute pity for the women around you. I hope you tell your wife the pains of labour she felt or would feel is actually she "acting up". I hope she does us a favour and smacks your face with backhand. If your claims of being a doctor or health practitioner is true. Then your initial takes even makes it worse. Just listen to your self. That Pain threshold can be calculated eliminates the pain and response to such? "Pain threshold can be calculated and mitigated?" "Men would do childbirth with fashion." Lol. How about we do a test and ram your ass hole with a pestle and wait for you not to flinch? |
DrTee1:Absolute rubbish. Try menstrual pain for 1 hour then come back here and type this rubbish. Also the Fulani women talk is half truths. Don't say what you don't know. How many Fulani women have you experienced giving birth? Yes they might by their body structure and infant size not experience much pain. I have witnessed home births from women down south without even a word and i have had to send a Fulani student to the clinic because of menstrual pain. We all have thresholds of pain and it would vary from women to women. To actually now belittle child birth pain as just some women "acting up" isn't only idiotic but wicked. If Men go through 1/4 menstrual pain or 1/10 labour pain the world would have created a machine to stop menstruation and give birth outside the human body. Can't imagine an adult with access to the internet would type what you wrote up there. |
Amotolongbo:Lots of you don't have real life understanding of issues and think resources are infinite and just throw processes at every societal issue. We all know how limited the resources of these universities are. So you expect the Uni to dip it's hand into its pocket to finance the process of impounding cars? Also how do you expect them to implement such tasks? Setup a Road safety/policing unit? Put guards and cameras everywhere to watch drivers and also purchase patrol cars to be chasing such reckless drivers? Who pays for such oversight? There's less than a 1% chance that a worker or lecturer drives recklessly to show off . That's the handiwork of students, so banning driving on campus by students would cut such acts by 99%. There's already a process of checks at the University gate, so this would cost them little to implement. They just need to filter drivers by their ID cards. Simple Make una dey do cost analysis please. Not everything is black and white. |
