PoliticsAnambra2017: IPOB Youths Attack Governor Willie Obiano In Church. by OneHead(op):
IPOB Protest at St Joseph’s Catholic Church Ekwulobia

By

James Eze

The growing popularity of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) may soon suffer a setback if the leadership of the organization does not step up quickly to check the increasing excesses of its members.

This is because a group of IPOB members stormed the St Joseph Pro-Cathedral Catholic Church Ekwulobia today chanting “No Election” on top of their voices in a bid to press home the group’s position that the Anambra gubernatorial election that has been scheduled for November 18 should not hold.

Catholic faithful who had gathered to worship their God in solemnity and peace were surprised at the unexpected intrusion of the self-determination activists who were restricted at the gate. The only possible explanation for their action may have been the presence of the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano who had arrived the church early to celebrate with the Catholic Youths of the parish who were marking their 2017 Youth Day.Thankfully, there was no incident however as the Mass went on smoothly with the officiating priest assuring the congregants that there was nothing to fear.

Governor Obiano later addressed the congregation urging the youths to dedicate their lives to Christ especially at this moment in the nation’s history which places undue pressure on young people. The Governor further reassured the people that the coming gubernatorial election would hold as scheduled and urged everyone to strive to maintain the peace that Anambra had become known for.

The Governor later made his way out of the church premises peacefully with the protesters declaring their “No Election” stand as his motorcade drove past them. His departure was easy and peaceful. Again, no incident.

However, some church members who spoke after the mass expressed surprise about the group’s intrusion during a Catholic Mass urging their leaders to check the trend before it begins to whittle down the group’s popularity among the people.

On Saturday, Alledged IPOB youths attacked PPA's Guber faithful, G.C.Ezeemo at a Biafran Veteran burial in Ihiala, Anambra state,

Seeing The Other Side – Even The Opposition Rejoices
========================

The kind of reports that emanated from certain quarters is the most uncharitable one can ever imagine from even the Devil himself. That these group of persons were angling to capture anything but good in all the issues generated by the burial, tells how devious opposition politics has become in our Society.

The video below was captured by the media agents of one of the opposition figures in the upcoming Anambra Gubernatorial elections. The video shows brotherhood and uncommon solidarity amongst our leaders – that’s what I see.

Commotion in Owerri As 300 Deaf and dumb Protest, Block Entry Gate Of Imo State Govt. House Demand N12m Subvention...

Members of Imo State Association of the Deaf, numbering over 300 on Monday, blocked the entry gate of the Imo State Government House, Owerri, in protest,

The protesters tried to force themselves into the premises of the government house but were resisted by the security men on duty at the entry gate.
The security men fired several gunshot into the air.

The protesters said they wanted to see Governor Rochas Okorocha, over alleged neglect and abandonment of their ‘welfare packages and annual subventions.’
Their chairman, Mr. Uzoma Edwards, who spoke to newsmen through an interpreter, a Catholic Church Reverend sister, said that for the past 12 years, their annual subventions totaling N12m had not been released to the association.
The group also alleged that the government had ‘grossly marginalised’ members of the association in employment, empowerment opportunities and official programmes.

The protesters said the state government treated them ‘badly’ because they cannot talk and had no ability to air their grievances through verbal communication.
The association’s chairman said members were angry that the state government had yet to approve its proposal for the state to host the sixth edition of the National Deaf Football Championship in 2018.

BusinessOwing A Bank And Cannot Repay Bank Loan Due To Harsh Conditions[Share This Tip] by OneHead(op): 6:34am On Jul 21, 2017
The banks have also noticed that majority of their borrowing customers have been unable to repay various types of loans they borrow to support their businesses and have reacted by mounting serious pressure on them to perform.

Some banks have even engaged the services of mean looking loan recovering agents to help.

The inability of borrowing customers to repay loans on time or not at all, reduces the capacity of banks to honour withdrawal demands from depositors.

Banks are required by CBN to deduct from their profit and/or capital any loan not repaid as at and when due. It’s called “Provisioning” in banking parlance.

Provisioning or deducting long unpaid loans of bank customers from bank’s profit or capital could make a bank post losses hence making it impossible to pay dividends to bank shareholders. Also, it could wipe off the bank’s capital and capacity to give more loans.

You want to repay bank loan and you can no longer meet obligations as at when due owing to the prevailing or harsh economic conditions, you have done no wrong.

Your condition will be deemed an offence if you fail to engage your bank on time.

If you find yourself in a bad debt situation, I advise that you demand to meet your branch manager if possible, in company of your lawyer. Narrate to the manager your difficulties in meeting your repayment obligations with evidence.

Tell the manager that it is your desire to meet the obligations as at when due but are being hampered by ever amorphous economic changes and challenges.

Demand for a restructure of the facility which will give you an extended time to repay based on your current but realistic cash flow.

Today’s branch manager is under pressure recover your bad and would want to hound you to agree to agree to a shorter repayment timelines but muster enough grit or resist the pressure. Stick to your proposal.

It your loan was an overdraft facility, demand for the removal of turnover covenant and clean-up cycle requirements that allow your bank to penalize you if you fail to meet a certain turnover levels because you can no longer guarantee sales levels and be able to pay down in time for the facility to be rolled over.

Gauge the countenance of the manager and if you suspect stubbornness, demand to see the head of the Bank’s Risk Management department or the supervising executive director.

Some relationship managers and bank managers could be annoyingly impossible and straight-jacketed. Many of them have no business background.

If your delinquent loans was Term Loan facility request that the bank extends the tenor of the term loan which should automatically reduce the amount of money you need to pay to service the facility.

The tenor shall be arrived at by ascertaining the minimum amount you can comfortably generate given the prevailing “bad market”. This is doable too; but expect some resistance from your relationship managers.

Also, demand that the bank reduces the interest rate on your loans in consideration of the bad economic realities. This, you may not get if your rates are below 25% p.a.

The rate concession you may get may depend on the size of the loan. Only a foolish banker would levy an uncollected interests. You may be lucky to get something better.

Your bank may ask that you bring additional collateral as a comfort. Give them, if you have and demand for interest rate reduction as you have reduced their risk by so doing.(read more on link below)

Yes, the lower the risk, the lower the returns or interest charged. Collaterals improve the risk rating of loans.

More importantly, ensure that you receive an offer letter conveying the agreed restructuring before you turn in the documents of the additional collateral in the spirit of mutual carefulness or caution.

When a loan goes bad the previously wonderful relationship between the banker and a customer would turn sour and would resemble that between a snake charmer and the snake being charmed. All must be at alert.

Also, do not ever think or assume that your discussion with a bank or the oral assurance from a bank official that your loan has been restructured is a deal.

Only a letter from the bank conveying an approval of your demands or negotiated agreement is considered a commitment.

Be warned! Bank’s management can overrule (and they always do) any oral assurance by any bank official irrespective of his or her rank. And once a promise to a customer is overruled, the official would start speaking in parables or become evasive while scheming with the recovery agents to foreclose your collateral because you can’t repay bank loan.

If while felling grieved about the bad turn of economic events, you react negatively by avoiding your banks in the hope that things would change for good, you are digging a big grave for your business.

Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has put in place systems that make it impossible for any bank borrower who allows his loan to go bad in one bank, to borrow from any other bank in Nigeria.

Banks are required to report all bad loan owners, stating the name of the business and their owners in an electronic register accessible to all the banks by a push of a button.

But, if you engage your banks early enough and get your loan restructured, you will avert hurting your business and yourself.

No bank will foreclose your collateral if you engage them on time. They all know that the economy is rough and with time you could meet up and repay bank loan.

You may need to have as friends, smart lawyers that will help you wade off any threat of economic strangulation from some bankers.

Not all humans including bankers are patient and understanding. Your faith in God could be shaken your darling bank’s disposition to your business misfortune.

At this trying time, I repeat, you need a prayer warrior in your lawyers. I mean, smart lawyers! Be bold to disengage your if he prefers instituting court cases to deny the loan than to take some legal steps to force the bank to the negotiation table.

A client is the lawyer’s source of daily bread. Note that a lawyer has nothing to lose if your case is messed up. Therefore, open your eyes as fish in water.

Also, you need to court the friendship of some grounded practicing or retired bankers to help you analyze delinquent loan restructure proposals or offer offers from your bank.

It is in your own self enlightened interest to initiate steps to find a solution to your bad loans with your bank, see more tips.

PoliticsSenate Moves To Scrap Financial Intelligence Unit From EFCC - NAAIJA by OneHead(op): 10:21am On Jul 20, 2017
The Senate said it would initiate a bill for a law to make Nigeria Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) autonomous.

This is coming on the heels of the suspension of Nigeria from the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units, the highest inter-governmental association of intelligence agencies in the world.

The Senate said it would make the Unit legally and operationally autonomous with powers to employ, reward, train, promote and discipline of its workforce independently.

It also resolved to empower NFIU in line with international best practices, to exchange and relate with all countries on issues affecting its mandate at bilateral levels.

These resolutions followed a motion on “Dire implications of the suspension of Nigeria from the Egmont Group of Financial Intelligence Units“ sponsored by Chairman, Committee on Anti-Corruption and Financial Crimes, Sen. Chukwuka Utazi.

Utazi said that Nigeria was suspended until January, 2018 at the group’s meeting in China earlier in July, and that the group threaten to expel the country if it failed to meet the standards of financial intelligence oprations.

According to Utazi, Nigeria’s suspension from the group was because the NFIU has not been granted operational autonomy and the unit was still domiciled within the EFCC.

Another reason, he said, was the meddlesomeness of the Acting Chairman of EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, in the affairs of the unit, explaining that Magu was interfering in the operations and staffing of the unit.

He noted that by virtue of Nigeria’s membership of Egmont group, the country enjoyed privileged information which was crucial to the universal and local war against corruption and terrorism financing.

The committee chairman said that one of the immediate effects of Nigeria’s suspension from the group was that the Egmont Secure Web had been shut against Nigeria.

He said that apart from the suspension, the group had given Nigeria up till December to address the issues or be expelled, adding that this would attract international sanctions against the country’s financial system.

“Nigeria can ill-afford to be blacklisted as the implications are dire, not only to our aspiration for membership of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) into which so much energy and time have been invested.

“An expulsion might also, under certain conditions, attract the imposition of financial transaction limit, including the withdrawal by some countries of scholarships to students of Nigerian origin,” he said.

Utazi lamented that the effort of the committee to avoid the suspension was not complemented by the executive arm of government.

“We will not renege; this is the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and we are going to live up to the billing of this body and ensure we do things rightly.

Supporting the motion, Deputy President of the Senate, Sen. Ike Ekweremadu, said that based on the matter, there was a huge debate by the 7th Senate.

“The NFIU used to be a department in the EFCC. So what they do is to gather financial intelligence about bank transactions

“And, because they get international funding and they are very influential, there was a huge debate where to domicile it, whether in the CBN or Office of the Attorney-General. There was an inter-agency rivalry.

“Egmont is complaining that all the staff members of NFIU are all from EFCC; they said this was not right.”

Ekweremadu said what was needful was to direct the committee to hold a meeting with the stakeholders to come up with best practices.

In his contribution, Sen. Shehu Sani, said that Egmont was one international institution that served as a compass to countries that were committed to fighting corruption.

“If actually we are committed to fighting corruption, it must be done smartly and intelligently.

“Intelligently, in the sense that we must belong to internationally acclaimed groups like Egmont in which our activities will tally with similar countries worldwide that share our goals.

“What this parliament can do is to rescue the situation. December is the deadline. The deadline which we either meet up or we are expelled from it.

“If we are desirous of achieving results in our anti-corruption fight, then we must not afford to be expelled by an institution that knows and have the mechanism to support our own local national laws and agencies,” Sani said.

Similarly, Sen. Foster Ogola (PDP-Bayelsa) said that the issue was very crucial to the survival of Nigeria.

“The economy will be in shambles because the expulsion of Nigeria from this foremost anti-corruption unit of the world, backed by the United Nations, will spell doom for businesses in Nigeria.

“That is why we need credible institutions to fight corruption,” Foster said.

On his part, Sen. Dino Melaye (APC-Kogi) said the suspension would affect Nigeria’s ratings by global organisations.

“Separating the NFIU from the EFCC will show that we are sincere in the fight against corruption. Today, we all know that there is a serious interference with the activities and operations of the NFIU.”

In his remarks, President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, said that the suspension was a setback to the fight against corruption.

“And, as such, we must move swiftly because we cannot afford to be cut off from the Egmont Group.

“We must move swiftly and ensure that this suspension is lifted and one of the things we need to do is to ensure that we pass this bill as soon as possible and give independence to NFIU. Other activities that must have led to this must be stopped.

“The committee on anti-corruption will carry out their oversight to ensure that the sooner we get the suspension lifted the better for our image and the fight against corruption,” Saraki said.

Egmont is a network of national financial intelligence units and is the highest inter-governmental association of intelligence agencies in the world.

“It has membership of 152 countries or state parties, which sit regularly for the purpose of sharing criminal intelligence and financial information bothering on money laundering, terrorism financing and proliferation of arms.”

PoliticsPeter Obi Celebrates His 56th Birthday. His Challenges And Legendary by OneHead(op): 7:25am On Jul 19, 2017
Peter Obi at 56

Written By

Valentine Obienyem.

Today, the 19th day of July, 2017, the man regarded as one of the best in governance, at any tier, in the annals of our country turns 56. As usual, drums would be rolled out by some of his admirers who believe excellence ought to be celebrated. They contend that if for nothing else, it is a means of promoting merit as role models in name and indeed. In a country where even imbeciles garbed in purple fall over one another seeking attention, it is about time the society set up a clear template for granting honour to whom it is due.

In another vein, beyond panegyrics by his enthusiasts, most people will just wish him a perfunctory ‘Happy Birthday’.

In this piece, I set out to re-examine, through the memories of his tenure, what good governance is all about and to encourage Nigerians to look up to him as the man who came into governance through entirely different route, with an entirely different mentality and left it as nobody has done in the history of governance in Nigeria. For me, this is decent birthday present that would also instruct those in governance on the right way to go.

Born on July 19, 1961, Peter Gregory Obi started his life in the rustic city of Onitsha, and obtained his initial formal education in Onitsha and Nsukka. He has since attended some of the best tertiary institutions in the world in his thirst for intellectual insemination to boost his competences.

How shall we rank him? Which of us possesses so varied the Knowledge to understand him adequately? As an experiment in perspective, let us see him through his dramatic entrance into government and what he did while there as distinct from business as usual.

Before him, news emanating from the State was not palatable at all. It was always stories of intrigues, squander mania, rape and rapine. Visions and memories of the State tormented all persons of goodwill; an involuntary gloom penetrated our souls, chilling their imaginations. The Bakassi group and their co-predators worsened the situation as they turned our dear State into a vast Golgotha of carnage, an arena for horror, where her children tore and destroyed one another with the clear conscience of nature. Concerned like other decent people, Peter Obi developed an urge to turn these barbarisms into civilization and this was what compelled him to seek election into public office.

He campaigned vigorously and was seen as the best candidate for the job. In many respects he was different: He was softened to tolerance by education and experiences as a top board-room man. He relied on persuasion and effective marketing of his programme of action to garner support and votes. Alas, his opponents, hardened by the streets and subterfuge, stole his mandate.

Evidently, Almighty God always has special interest in Peter Obi’s affairs; and for every indignity he suffered, he came out stronger and as a reference point for the country and Nigeria-watchers. By regaining his stolen mandate through the courts, he became a locus calssicus in that regard, not just from the point of law, but from establishing a commendable precedent as the first Nigerian to have done so. A study of the circumstances that led to that feat will easily show that it was due largely to the grace of God and his perseverance and ability to remain focused.

A few months into his tenure, some renegades in the State House of Assembly led by Hon. Mike Belonwu contrived his impeachment. It was not hidden that the impeachment process that came to its peak on the visit of the then President Olusegun Obasanjo, had some of its roots in the swelling resentment against his parsimony; how, rather than business as usual, he was using the resources of the State to work for the State and her people. Consider one of the reasons why he was impeached: the House used to "add and share"; accusing him of re-building the burnt Government House with less than 50% of the actual money budgeted for that purpose. This may sound incredible, but it is true.

It was the mark of the rascality of the time that the house ended up impeaching him. Convinced of the rightness of his conduct in office, Peter Obi challenged the action of the House of Assembly in court; and set another record as the first State Governor to come back into office from impeachment.

As the Governor, he had many challenges, but as customary with him, his usually calm and thoughtful temperament often saved him from unsavoury situations. Despite his convictions that the condition of Anambra required early decisions and quick implementation of policies, Obi, in the freshman year of his government, submitted himself to robust debate over the State’s many problems. He started with a profound bow to planning by establishing the Ministry of Planning.

He did not have to rush into new projects - mostly unplanned - when there were many projects started by his predecessor which needed to be completed.

As a board-room guru, he subjected his decisions to the Executive Council [EXCO] for proper debate and consideration. He did this because he was the captain of the ship and was in control. Till this day, his erstwhile Commissioners recall their exhilarating times with him. One of them is the highly-respected Dr. Patrick Obi who revealed that the then Governor was often “Prolonging Council meetings, always returning to the question – Is this just? Is that useful? He subjected each question to exact and elaborate analysis".

On Peter Obi’s capacity for work, the cerebral & forthright Professor Chinyere Okunna says: "I have never seen him tired, I never found his mind lacking in inspiration, even when weary in body. Never did a man more wholly devote himself to the work in hand, nor better devote his time to what he had to do”.

He was yet to conclude his first term when elections were conducted. As far as everybody was concerned, that was his end. Dr. Andy Uba was already sworn in as the Governor before Peter Obi’s erudite lawyer succeeded in his tenure interpretation case. I recall that as soon as Dr. Onyechi Ikpeazu, SAN mentioned that, Femi Falana, SAN picked up the gauntlet and turned the matter into a forensic debate. Some intellectual charlatans have recently tried to appropriate the copyrights, but we have the records. The end of that saga was the successful interpretation of the tenure matter, which induced another significant political earthquake - the staggering of elections in Nigeria. Peter Obi thus became a key architect of the overhaul of the political landscape in the country.

One of the major challenges of his tenure was the issue of security. Though the entire South-East was having security challenges at the time he assumed office, the case of Anambra was horrendous as the State had little relationship with legitimate security agencies. In the first instance, he restored this strategic relationship with those agencies; supporting them as no other Government in the State has ever done, including donations of over 500 vehicles, among which were Armoured Personnel Carriers and Armoured patrol vehicles.

Reflecting on the far-reaching measures he took on securing the State, one has to admire Peter Obi’s ingenuity of compelling a society to improve its ways of protecting itself from crime and criminality, including armed robbery, kidnapping, and cultism. For instance, while the likes of Ofe Awkwu, Ngwu Ekeluomu, Osisi ka Ngwu were literally parading as unchecked despots of the underworld, he came up with a legislation which enabled the destruction of buildings used to keep kidnap victims. To further enhance security, his administration provided at least one security patrol van to each of the 177 communities in the State as well as to various other organizations as markets and Churches. When one of the dare-devil kidnappers, Evans, was caught recently, he confessed the truth that propaganda has held hostage for long: that it was Peter Obi that made criminals to run out of Anambra State because he made the place an operational hell for them. At another event when Obi was asked about security in Anambra State during his tenure, he replied rather cryptically in Igbo: “Woke nuchaa ogu, nwanyi enweluakuko” [“After a man fights the battle, the woman takes on the story”].

With his overall achievements, the State, which until his tenure was treated as a pariah, was opened again to the world. It was at this time that several Envoys of countries represented in Nigeria started to visit the State for collaborative projects and programmes. These include: United States, Britain, Russia, European Union, South Africa, Belgium, Israel, The Netherlands and Canada. In the same vein, Development Partners such as UNDP, UNICEF, The World Bank, DfID, and UNESCO began to take active interest in the State. Indeed, hitherto, many of them had nothing to do with the State. Under the Obi administration, Anambra State was consistently adjudged one of the best States in development partnership and commitment to reforms for good governance.

Before his tenure, the manufacturing sector – not to be confused with commerce -- was comatose. The few operators that hung on groaned under the debilitating effects of an uncongenial environment of bad roads, low patronage, excessive [and mostly illegal] taxation, insecurity, no government support, among others. The Obi administration resuscitated this critical sector not by the inundation of propaganda, but by practical steps -- including development of an Industrial Policy for the State, consultations with operators and concrete enablement for them -- which yielded tremendous results and boosted the socio-economy of the State and environs. Link roads, other relevant infrastructure and logistic support were provided for such vibrant manufacturing outfits as Innoson Vehicles, Chikason, Cutix Cable, Juhel Pharmaceuticals, Krisoral, Orange Drugs, EkuloGroup, and many others. The administration also attracted giant manufacturers like Intafact, INNOSON, Neimet, and Distel.

Among others, Innoson Group has continued to acknowledge that the patronage of the Obi administration ensured the survival of its vehicle manufacturing company – with the purchase of billions of Naira worth of vehicles and personal introductions to The Presidency and other State Governors.

Easily one of the unsurpassed attainments of Peter Obi was in education. Here, he achieved another first on January 1, 2009, with his return of schools to their original owner-proprietors – Voluntary Agencies, including Churches – with commendable results. While the management of the schools was transferred to the agencies, the State Government retained the funding responsibilities, including capital projects, staff salaries and emoluments, and other recurrent expenditures. Such was the impact of this momentous decision that Obi administration stabilized basic education in the State. Among other outcomes, Anambra State leaped from its usual 24th place of the 36 States in many external examinations to Number One in results of both the National Examination Council [NECO]and West African Examination Council [WAEC]examinations for three consecutive years. Indeed, this revolutionary partnership and phenomenal achievement informed the World Bank-commissioned study group led by the renowned Professor Paul Collier of Oxford University.

Under the Obi tenure, Anambra State was the first in the Federation to procure and distribute over 30,000 computers to secondary schools. These included 22,500 from HP, which the Managing Director HP (Africa and Middle-East) described as their largest such procurement in the Middle-East and Africa. In the same vein, Internet access was provided to more than 500 secondary schools, which the CEO of Galaxy Backbone then (Mr. Gerald Ilukwe) characterized as incomparable to any other in the country. Microsoft Academies were also established in those secondary schools – a project the then Head of Microsoft in Nigeria (Mr. Ken Span) described as the biggest of such in Africa to date.
Similarly, secondary schools in the State got over 700 buses, while bore-holes were sunk and classroom blocks constructed in several schools in the 177 communities of the State.

Having determined that the partnership with the voluntary agencies/Churches was working, he steadily extended the formula to other critical sectors. In the health sector, for instance, the symbiotic relationship resulted in a tremendous boost to health care delivery across the State with investments of grants, structures and supplies to the tune of several billions of Naira. Among the beneficiary-organizations – whose transformation made positive impacts on the sector – are: Iyienu Hospital, Ogidi; Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala; St. Charles Borromeo Hospital, Onitsha; Diocesan Hospital , Amichi; Holy Rosary Hospital, Waterside, Onitsha; and St. Joseph Hospital, Adazi-Nnukwu. The Obi administration also constructed the Joseph Nwilo Heart Centre at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Adazi-Nnukwu, where heart operations are now being performed satisfactorily.

The grooming of health-care professionals similarly received serious attention. By the end of Peter Obi’s tenure in 2014, over 12 health institutions, including two hospitals, had secured accreditation for their courses and programmes. Interestingly, prior to his assumption of office in 2006, no health institution in Anambra State was duly accredited.

Predictably, the achievements of Peter Obi as Governor elicited several authentic, verifiable commendations and awards. Among others, he won the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation US$1 million prize for best-performing State in immunization in the South-East. With complementary funding from Government, he used the money to construct 10 Maternal and Child Care Centres across the State, particularly in rural communities, in partnership with the Churches.

One of the acts of Obi that nobody would wish away is his ability, against the convention, to clear debts owed pensioners running into over 37 billion Naira; his consistency in paying workers’ salaries; and commitment to paying contractors on certificates generated – and yet being able to leave in excess of N100 billion [including set-aside funds] in the State treasury for his successor. This is one of the features that define him from others that seek the governance of the people. How he did it will one day become a topical issue in this country. Another marvel is that even with that huge savings, he still recorded more achievements than most others that owed hundreds of billions.

Commenting on Peter Obi inclination to hard-work, one of his Commissioners, Chief Joe Martins Uzodike noted that “Mr. Peter Obi wore himself out as he did others; the engine was too strong for the body. He crowded a life-time of events into twenty years because he compressed a week into a day. He came to his desk about 7am. It is only those not in Nigeria that would not appreciate what he did for Anambra State and how he is sadly being repaid today. But like his other travails, he takes them with equanimity”.

On her part, his wife, the oil behind the strong engine, Mrs. Margaret Obi is perplexed that what he suffered has not driven him to insanity. She asserted that her husband remains the person he used to be: “He still eats well and sleeps like a baby. He could go to sleep at will, at any hour and in any place wherever he needs repose”.

The man himself revealed that he keeps different affairs arranged in his head or memory as in a closet with several drawers: “When I wish to turn from business, I close the drawer that contains it, and open that which contains another. If I wish to sleep, I shut up all the drawers and I am soon asleep”.

Rather than seek by what magic or inspiration Obi achieved all this and get close to him to achieve a fraction of his goodness by prestige imitation, they are busy running round the lunatic asylum. When they discovered it would not lead them to anywhere, they resorted to propaganda and elevated it to a State industry, almost a monopoly.

As he turns 56 and is increasingly relevant because he has something to offer, may we raise our glasses and cling to his continued good health and pray to God to always lead him aright.

CrimeGovernor Ambode Suspends Baale Of Shangisha For Faking Kidnap by OneHead(op): 4:53pm On Jul 14, 2017
Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode on Thursday approved the immediate suspension of the Baale of Shangisha in Magodo, Chief Yusuf Ogundare for faking his kidnap which allegedly took place on July 5 along Center for Management Development (CMD) Road in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of the State.

In a memo with reference number OLGAS.83/S./Vol.1 dated July 13, 2017 addressed to the Sole Administrator of Ikosi-Isheri LCDA and signed by the State’s Commissioner for Local Government and Community Affairs, Hon Teslim Folami, Governor Ambode directed Ogundare to stop parading himself henceforth as the Baale of the community till further notice.

According to the memo, Folami said: “I am directed to convey the approval of His Excellency, Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of the suspension of Chief Yusuf Ogundare, Baale of Shangisha with immediate effect in accordance with Section 38 subsection 1 of the Obas and Chiefs Laws of Lagos State which states that “the Governor may suspend or depose any Oba or chief whether appointed or after commencement of this law, if he is satisfied that such suspension of disposition is required according to customary law or is necessary in the interest of peace and good government.

“You are to communicate the decision to the chieftain to stop parading himself as Baale of Shangisha with immediate effect.”

There’s Vacancy In Aso Rock, Needs Occupant – PDP Rep.

Ogundare’s suspension was approved by the Governor moments after the Lagos State Police Command paraded him alongside his younger brother, Mohammed Adams for conspiring to fake the alleged kidnap.

Adams, on the fateful day, reported the alleged kidnap incidence to the police.

Speaking while parading the two suspects, the State’s Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni said the Command on July 5 received the report of Ogundare’s alleged kidnap, and immediately swung into action in collaboration with other security agencies especially the Department of State Service (DSS).

Owoseni said luck however ran out on Ogundare when he was apprehended by men of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) in Alausa area of the State on July 11 after he was dropped in a suspicious manner by a car which sped off immediately.

Giving details of how Ogundare was apprehended, Owoseni said: “On July 11 at about 10pm, a team of RRS patrol officers working around Alausa had sighted a vehicle drop a male adult in a suspicious manner close by Shoprite along the Secretariat road. The speed with which that car drove off attracted them to that spot and fortunately before they got to the spot, the car had taken off and a quick enquiry revealed that it was the Baale that was allegedly kidnapped.

“Immediately after while Ogundare was being debriefed, he sold a dummy that the kidnappers dropped him off but unknowingly to him, it had been found out that on the 5th of July, the day he was allegedly kidnapped in Lagos, investigation had revealed that he was driving around in Ibadan around Ashi; he went to Ilorin, he went to Iwo, he was just on a frolic.

“And unknowingly to him as well that because of information that had gotten to security services that his younger brother and his wife were being questioned and were actually in custody because of some discrepancies that were noticed in the interaction they had with security agencies, and in furtherance of the synergy existing between the Police and DSS, we jointly compared notes and our findings were such that the act of the chief was despicable and amounted to crying wolf where there is none,” Owoseni said.

He said while making reports, Adams had told security agencies that he was with the Baale at CMD Hotel when some people who claimed they wanted to buy land whisked them away and later dropped him, but investigation revealed that he (Adams) was not at any time in the hotel with the Baale but was only at the restaurant of the hotel, and after some minutes, he left, and the wife of the Baale actually drove the Venza car allegedly used to abduct the supposed victim into the hotel.

The CP added that after the suspects were confronted with the indisputable facts, they had no choice than to confess faking the kidnap.

The CP said immediately after Ogundare was allegedly kidnapped, Adams went to the community and called the town crier to order the whole community to close shops and markets should not open, an action aimed at inciting members of the community against the State Government.

He said the objective of the suspects was to falsely accuse the Oba of Shangisha as the brain behind the kidnapping, which they indeed did, as a vengeance to him being installed the Oba instead of Ogundare, and also embarrassed the State Government and as well as security agencies for arresting him (Ogundare) when he falsely displayed the plate number of Oba of Shangisha on his car.

Also speaking, the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Adeniji Kazeem also demanded the unconditional release of the six children kidnapped from Igbonla Model College since May 25.

He said it was disheartening that while the State Government and security agencies were working round the clock to secure the release of the children, some unscrupulous persons deemed it fit to raise false alarm.

He said it was situations as this that prompted the Governor to sign the Anti-Kidnapping bill into law, assuring that the Government would not hesitate to prosecute anyone who runs fowl of the law.

He said just as the law prescribes life imprisonment for kidnapping in the State, same also applies for any person who fakes their own kidnap.

“Nothing can be more despicable and heinous than to raise false alarm where there is none. This is even more despicable when we consider the plight of these children that were recently kidnapped and are still being held by the kidnappers.

“Let me sound a very serious note of warning that we have zero tolerance for crimes against the State. No matter how high or low you may be in the society, you can be assured that we will bring you to justice if you commit a crime.

He also urged them not to rest on their oars but continue to go all out to ensure that the State remains safe and secured for residents and investors.

CrimeEvans Is A Case Study On Why Marriages Should Resist Break-ups - Film Maker by OneHead(op): 2:12pm On Jul 12, 2017
[MUST READ]Evans And The Lessons By Emeka Tai Obasi

Last month, precisely on June 10(how can I ever forget any big event on my birthday?), the most sophisticated and intelligent criminal since Independent Nigeria was nabbed in Lagos, precisely at his residence in Magodo Estate.

I became instantly interested. As a writer who revels in the Thriller genre, Evans provided every index of a bestselling novel. And, of course, a blockbuster movie. Two days later I got a call from an unknown number that turned out one of my numerous clients in the Nollywood industry. He was interested in scripting the activities of Evans. Next day another called, interested in scripting same subject. Less than 24 hours later a third called.

I ended up settling with the first caller…not necessarily on first-call-first-served basis but rather that the first producer convinced me he would not spare resources in producing the movie exactly the way I’d script it. I warned him it’d take me one month to script as I was still researching and studying everything about the Nnewi-born kidnap kingpin.
Yes, Nnewi-born. Evans real name, Chukwudi Chukwudumeje Onwuamadike, hails from Umudim, Nnewi…Umudim and my own Nza, Ozubulu have common boundary. Of course I didn’t use the name Nnewi in my script…I know much better than that but let me say this in writing once more – I’m proud, very proud of my own town Ozubulu but there’s one town that I respect more than any other town in Africa.

That town is Nnewi.

There’s something about any origin of Nnewi…he’s ever competing in whatever he does. He strives to be the best in any endeavor. When the cliché, ‘’Warri no dey carry last’’came out, I laughed. Nnewi is the only town I know that doesn’t carry last in any endeavor. In fact, you’d always see him amongst the firsts. Any Nnewi man or woman is ever smart…some mistake it for selfishness…term it anything but it boils down to the fact he’s ever a fierce competitor in any endeavor he/she undertakes.

If you’re into business and want to prosper, follow the footsteps of the Nnewi man. He may not willingly teach you if you’re not truly from Nnewi town but you have to be smart to learn from him without going for his advice. But most people, instead of bending to learn from the bests, end up wallowing in envy. Instead of respecting the ingenuity of one God has abundantly blessed ends up scandalizing such successes with mundane insinuations. Stand up and salute the Nnewi man anywhere you are. God has made him a genius. Any Nnewi man anywhere that is not successful should blame himself for failing to discover the hidden talent God willingly endowed him with.

Was there any richer businessman in West Africa than Sir Louis Ojukwu? Was there any more courageous Igbo man that could have led Biafra than his own son, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu? Was there any better transporter than Ekene Dili Chukwu? What about Chikason, Cosharis, Ibeto, Innoson, Capital Oil? Were there many Finance ministers more respected than Dr. Chu Okongwu? Is there any clearing and forwarding agent bigger than Denca Services? What about Nwafor Orizu? Examples are legion. But what gladdens the heart more than any other is when one takes a trip to the town. Nnewi should be the most indigenous industrialised town in West Africa…all set up by sons of the town.

So when I was researching and studying the activities of Evans, I discovered that the super intelligent man only applied the Nnewi brain wrongly. The press didn’t tell us half of Evans’ ingenuity. The Police do not want the public to know exactly what they went through before subduing and arresting the kingpin.

Any day ACP Abba Kyari opens up on the real intelligence and counter-intelligence tussle involved in the Evans debacle, Nigerians will wow. For security purposes yes, but I suspect for something much more incriminating, the public are being fed with kindergarten stuff.

The quality of security information that flew to Evans is not possible without coming from some dubious few in the very top of handling our security affairs. The way Evans managed funds and conveniently handled his ransoms in foreign currencies was not possible without some astute assistance from dubious bankers. The way Evans managed to stay off electronic tracking even though he smartly used Thuraya and Vertu phones was not possible without collaboration with some bad eggs deep in the technical departments of GSM network providers. I noticed inconsistent tales while carrying out my investigations but I was very careful with scripting. I wouldn’t want Censors’ Board withholding my producer’s work when done.

There are many other tales that didn’t add up …why would a sixth-sense-operating brain like Evans go for Amaka even when he was certain she was being used as bait? The police didn’t want the public to know exactly why Evans went to his mistress’ house that early June 10 morning. As a writer I know better and made educated guesses.

Though Evans script took up all my energy in a month of researching and scripting it was interestingly challenging. I may have written one of my best five scripts ever. If the producer lives up to his promises of producing the work as written, spending enough funds to capture the intentions and succinctly deliver them on screen, I’d say watch out!

But besides all these entertainment prospects, what do we take home from Evans?

I have no doubt the kidnap president would have effectively competed with the likes of Innoson if the secondary school dropout hadn’t veered off into negativity. But what would have been Evans’ positive ingenuity was destroyed by a broken marriage. If both parents had withered their differences and stayed together, given their son enough education and put him on the right path, they’d today be enjoying the fruits from a multi-billionaire in any genuine business endeavour.

Evans is a case study on why marriages should resist break-ups and even when it becomes absolutely inevitable, a woman should be very careful while insisting on taking her male child/ren and bringing him/them up on her own. That is exactly how Evans got his freedom to dive into crime – from a mother who wanted to prove to him that she cared more than the father and hence failed to use that cane where necessary.
