was the magnitude of the political crisis in the post-colonial Nigeria so grave as to warrant a heartless, bloody coup that culminated in the demise of the leading lights of the Hausa/Fulani and Yoruba kingdoms? Go ask the Nigerian government that issued the coup as oppose to attacking and accusing soliders that just carried out what they were told to do. Would it not have been in better interest of ndigbo if that coup was avoided? Answer my question: Since Nigerian killed off the men involved with the coup, why attack innocent people that did not have a hand in it? If Aguiyi Ironsi was not toppled in July 1966, would there have been the need for Biafran secession bid or civil war? Biafran secession occurred because Nigerians were targeting and killing of Igbo people and minority groups in whom they deemed as Igbo. Do not try to rewrite history. Ojukwu declared Biafra after Gowon failed to fulfill what he promised him (i.e: protection of Easterners indigenous outside of the region he ruled)
Was Ojukwu not a staunch member of the Supreme Millitary Council established by Ironsi in 1966, and what influence did he bring to bear on Ironsi on his( Ironsi) unfavorable military appointments? What sort of question is this?

Why did he not sense a possible counter- coup when ndigbo were being massacred in Jos and other Northern areas, following the Igbo-led coup? What sort of ignorant statement is that? Soldiers attacked political leaders. People took revenge against the soliders by killing them. Innocent men, women and children that in no way had any clue about the attack, nor reason behind it, were still attacked and hunted down after the people that committed the so called crime were already dealt with and in your view, you think that those soldiers being a specific tribe somehow justify the attack of the civilians that in no way had any clue of the event massacre. I am from the Anioma part of Delta and i can tell you the area deserves to be made a state. But those that specialize in politicizing everything concerning Igbos are at it again. They know the South east deserves a state in order to balance the country. They also know Anioma is the only qualified area based on land mass and population that can become a true viable state. But instead of simply creating Anioma as the people already know it and as they requested, they will create confusion by saying they will add parts of Anambra to it. 4. our linking our core founders as bini /ishan or edo people have nothing to do with being bini , we have never said we are bini,but we also acknowledge strong igbo migration into ika , but that also does not make us igbo , but we are ika ethnic nationality.
5. all nigeria ethnic groups came into existence as a result of british influence and this includes bini, yoruba, ijaw , igbo ,hausa, ika and all the rest , so for those who think igbo as an ethnic group has existed from ancient times should go and learn history ,as people choose to follow the ethnic group that will achieve their political aims in nigeria, and ika is clearly a nation as we even have two languages , and when i compare basic owa culture and basic igbo culture , i see they just have few similarities and a whole lot of great differences.

Yorubas are one of the most loved ethnic tribes in Nigeria. We are social and welcoming. Even abroad, most inter-ethnic venues for Nigerian gathering are organized by yorubas (churches, social orgs, events etc). we welcome other nigerian tribes (igbos, edos, etc), we also embrace other africans.
we are also very proud of our culture and language.

During the South African xenophobia episode, you will note that most of the so called "Nigerians" being killed and deported were of igbo tribe.Same with the murders in the North. Given by the claims of ohaneze and the population of the south east, one can argue that the amount of Igbos outside their region searching for greener pastures is twice not just more than the amount of Igbos in the SE. I have facts if you need them.

One of the recurrent themes in the Igbo-vs-everyone threads that I see here in Nairaland is the point of Igbos living outside the SE in mass numbers and showing off/being unfriendly to their hosts. Another often-commented position in this is that the SE is the most uninhabitable region in all of Nigeria, thus the impression of Igbos running away and leaving their homelands in a backward state.

Reading all of these assertions one would think that:

1. There is no abundance of non-Igbos living in the south-east, living and working in peace, with everyone minding their business.
2. The vast majority of Nigerian regions outside the south-east are far from being remote, rural, and underdeveloped.
3. There are no other Nigerian groups known for their migratory culture.
4. That the SE really is the worst and most uninhabitable region in Nigeria.


I also don't get why Igbos are being shouted down and accused of being unsavory guests. I hardly see evidence of this when Igbos are compared to other Nigerian groups. No, I seriously don't.

What I find interesting here is that expatriates do MUCH MUCH worse than what Igbos are being accused of (in terms of being ungrateful "immigrants" ). As much as this is true (and I can prove it) they are left relatively unscathed in the political heat. What's the deal?

I also find it funny that I am speaking of Igbos as if they are foreigners or something. I thought the whole idea of the events during 1967-1970 was to emphasize greatly that Igbos were Nigerians through and through?
