mank1234: You can't disprove it divinity without first disproving God's existence m for the former proceeds from the later. Testable evidence of evolution? Please share. I'm eager to learn. Evolution: look at antibiotic resistance, breed of dogs, etc. Artificial selection works on the same principles and is testable. Religion is not divine because of 1: errors and inconsistencies in all of them, and 2: the holy books are made of the same material as any other book. Using Occams Razor, I deduce that these books are also of human origin like any other book. |

Kindly change your 'supposed' real name which is not onetrack or don't derail this thread, not interested in your submission Yes, my real name contains a reference to the Jewish god, but I'm not about to change it because I don't care enough about this issue, and I'm certainly not going to change it just because some offended Christian wants me to. That's laughable. |

mank1234: In cosmology/astronomy, some of the ideas are just assumptions; some of the ideas are even conflicting ideas. Should we therefore dismiss them without further discussion? Evolution too is based on assumption. Should we therefore dismiss it too since we can't proof it? Furthermore evolution cannot even explain, the existence of animals in pairs (male and female) even by assumption. The quote says that it may be dismissed without evidence, not that it should be or must be. Many of the great discoveries came from wild hypotheses which later had to be proved. The problem is that many theist say that their god exists and that their religion is true. I cannot disprove the existence of their god(s) but religion being divine can be easily disproved. Evolution is absolutely not based on assumption, but on very careful and testable evidence. |

My name has a reference to god in it, but since I don't believe he exists, I'm not worried about his wrath. As for people who might be butthurt about it, I could not care less about what they think.
In fact I should probably change my name to Yahweh or Allah. |

mank1234: It is wrong to believe everything can be tested scientifically. Very very wrong.
Even in the sphere of science, frequencies above a certain level cannot be measured, some wavelength of light cannot be detected. Until theory of relativity came about, our understanding of the universe was very limited. Is it possible that there are still laws/theories undiscovered? Yes very well.
So, for me I'll say develop your science tool very well, then and only then will you be able to proof scientifically that the creator of the universe exist. For me there's God and he has always existed In theory everything should be testable scientifically. While we don't yet have the means to do so for everything, anyone who says that something is true must be prepared to show testable evidence. Otherwise it can be dismissed without further discussion. "What is claimed without evidence can be dismissed without evidence." Christopher Hitchens. |

Christianity Etc › Re: Confusion?: Atheists Disassociating Themselves from the Bigotry of New Atheism by onetrack(m): 7:23pm On Oct 01, 2016 |
OK so there is some disagreement about what atheists should do. Fine with me; debate and discussion should be a part of any thinker's repertoire.
I personally tend to take the side of Dawkins, Harris, and Hitchens (PBUH) in the sense that atheists need at least some of us to be outspoken in the same sense that missionaries and preachers are. It is not for every atheist to speak openly about their non-belief, but at least some of us should be. People who grow up in deeply religious communities need to see that there is an alternative way of looking at the world. |

Ontarget: Just as the earthly realm and the space realm follows different laws and patterns, the realm of God is different on its own working system. On earth anything we throw up must surely come down, but it doesn't work like that in the space realm. In the earth and space realms everything that has a beginning must have and ending, but it doesn't work like that in the realm of God with an entirely different working system. Do you have any evidence that we can examine or test scientifically? This is quite a claim you are making. |
