Even though my senses are flawed and limited, they remain the best source of evidence I have that something exists. Logic is the second best source of evidence. I have seen, heard, and touched my mother, and logic tells me she must exist because I have only seen humans originate in mothers' wombs. None of these apply to any deity. |
Good thread. I enjoyed them. |
Lol say no to masturbation? Might as well say no to breathing, especially for single people... |
Actually we should do away entirely with marriage, that way adultery could never happen. |
oglalasioux:One can be explained, detected, and analyzed using scientific principles. The other (witchcraft) cannot. This is a critical difference, and makes such a comparison invalid. |
winetapper:This same argument can be used to justify any religious faith-based belief. I can use a similar argument to prove the existence of the old gods of Africa, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster. I can simply say that you cannot understand the ways of the Flying Spaghetti Monster no matter how much you study, but he exists. |
I don't know of any atheist who believes that Satan, evil spirits, ghosts, and witches exist. However if someone could just produce some evidence that could be tested and proven under scientific conditions, and then replicated by other scientists, I think many of us could be convinced. I'm still waiting. |
winetapper:I wasn't there an am not a doctor. However I've never actually seen a miracle like this replicated in a laboratory in front of scientists; therefore, I must conclude that there was some trick, and that you recovered on your own. People do often get better on their own. |
Placebo effect, confirmation bias, and illusory correlation explain what happened to you, along with some trick by the 'healer'. |
Haroun13:Hahahahahahahaha.....the Arabs are too busy fighting each other to control the world...plus they get bombed by the west when they feel like it. |
bg0074real:Muslims do the exact same thing when you bring up the nonsense in Islam. They say "In order for you to understand Allah has to guide you" or something like that. Christianity, Islam, and Judaism are all man-made nonsensical ideas. |
Wow that is amazing. ![]() Also Marine Le Pen is in the Bible: "Le Pen is mightier than the sword" And Theresa May: "That I May know him...." And Vladimir Putin: "For God hath putin their hearts to fulfil his will...." And Angela Merkel (whose name derives from Angel) is mentioned in many places. The signs are all there! Repent now, for the kingdumb of God is close at hand! |
It represents the fact that the Bible was used to keep black people in slavery, at first physical but now mental. The same picture could be made with the Quran. |
You need to see a psychologist or psychiatrist. These are symptoms of schizophrenia. Get proper professional help immediately. There is nothing in the picture you posted. This is not a religious issue. |
Absurdism is really the only thing I can recommend to you. I don't have any other advice to give. Yes, I also think that life has no inherent meaning, but at least I can choose to try to give my life meaning even if I know it really isn't possible. |
Elbizzcklinz:I agree with you. There are often steps in such major transitions. However given where you are currently, I can say as an atheist that you are almost at the end of your journey. |
Elbizzcklinz:You already are atheist, based on what you have written. Waiting a week is not even necessary. |
Being born once was enough for me. The FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER does not require the rebirth of his followers. |
Because I do not worship anything, I suppose I could be considered a Satanist since Satan does not exist. Satisfied? ![]() |
In Islam, female slaves do not need to cover their hair; in fact, they don't even need to cover their breasts. Who is more free, the Muslim woman or her slave? |
frustratedguy:I've done very well for 30 years without any god or religion, you can too. Keep your head up. And you shouldn't hate something (god) which does not exist. |
I don't know what is wrong with these athiests either. Even a casual look around reveals that there is a creator. Dear athiests: the FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER IS REAL. Accept him and worship him. Eat pasta. Let his long, firm strand of spaghetti deep inside you. It is really worth having the delights of this world only to spend an eternity with stale beer and diseased strippers? |
I'd be Pontius Pilate. Being a Roman governor was a nice and comfortable job, and he would have been from a wealthy family. |
In the far west of Africa, in Senegal, the Fulani (called Peul in this part of the world) called their religion 'Koumen' and a summary of their beliefs and practices can be found in the link below, though you should consider that the information presented comes from a western anthropologist and so his description and interpretation should be taken with a grain of salt. http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1525/aa.1962.64.4.02a00250/pdf |
Obama drinks beer and eats pork. He does not pray Islamic prayers nor fast during Ramadan. Donald Trump does not drink alcohol at all. He also has had more than one wife. Who is more likely to be Muslim? |
The hadiths have nothing to do with Islam. The Quran has nothing to do with Islam. Muslims have nothing to do with Islam. Muhammad has nothing to do with Islam. Allah has nothing to do with Islam. There. Islam is perfect. |
saintgp:Atheist here. I bet he's going to tell you that following Jesus is not a religion, and that no True Christian would behave like the pastors do these days. Just like Muslims will tell you that Islam is not a religion, it's a way of life. It's just another way of confusing people by changing definitions of Christianity and Islam, which is what religious people specialize in (confusing people). |
orisa37:I am doing very well without any god thank you. |
Christopher Hitchens Islam in its origins is just as shady and approximate as those from which it took its borrowings. It makes immense claims for itself, invokes prostrate submission or "surrender" as a maxim to its adherents, and demands deference and respect from nonbelievers into the bargain. There is nothing—absolutely nothing—in its teachings that can even begin to justify such arrogance and presumption. Alexis de Tocqueville I studied the Quran a great deal. I came away from that study with the conviction that by and large there have been few religions in the world as deadly to men as that of Muhammad. As far as I can see, it is the principal cause of the decadence so visible today in the Muslim world and, though less absurd than the polytheism of old, its social and political tendencies are in my opinion more to be feared, and I therefore regard it as a form of decadence rather than a form of progress in relation to paganism itself. Carl Jung We do not know whether Hitler is going to found a new Islam. He is already on the way; he is like Muhammad. The emotion in Germany is Islamic; warlike and Islamic. They are all drunk with a wild god. Edward Gibbon Instead of a perpetual and perfect measure of the divine will, the fragments of the Koran were produced at the discretion of Mahomet; each revelation is suited to the emergencies of his policy or passion; and all contradiction is removed by the saving maxim, that any text of Scripture is abrogated or modified by any subsequent passage. George S. Patton To me it seems certain that the fatalistic teachings of Muhammad and the utter degradation of women is the outstanding cause for the arrested development of the Arab. He is exactly as he was around the year 700, while we have kept on developing. John Adams This book is a long conference of God, the angels, and Mahomet, which that false prophet very grossly invented; sometimes he introduceth God, who speaketh to him, and teacheth him his law, then an angel, among the prophets, and frequently maketh God to speak in the plural. … Thou wilt wonder that such absurdities have infected the best part of the world, and wilt avouch, that the knowledge of what is contained in this book, will render that law contemptible. Mark Twain That is a simple rule, and easy to remember. When I, a thoughtful and unblessed Presbyterian, examine the Koran, I know that beyond any question every Mohammedan is insane; not in all things, but in religious matters. Mustapha Kemal Ataturk For nearly five hundred years, these rules and theories of an Arab Shaikh and the interpretations of generations of lazy and good-for-nothing priests have decided the civil and criminal law of Turkey. They have decided the form of the Constitution, the details of the lives of each Turk, his food, his hours of rising and sleeping the shape of his clothes, the routine of the midwife who produced his children, what he learned in his schools, his customs, his thoughts-even his most intimate habits. Islam – this theology of an immoral Arab – is a dead thing. Possibly it might have suited tribes in the desert. It is no good for modern, progressive state. God’s revelation! There is no God! These are only the chains by which the priests and bad rulers bound the people down. A ruler who needs religion is a weakling. No weaklings should rule. Ahmad al Ma'arri They all err—Moslems, Jews, Christians, and Zoroastrians: Humanity follows two world-wide sects: One, man intelligent without religion, The second, religious without intellect Salomon Reinach From the literary point of view, the Koran has little merit. Declamation, repetition, puerility, a lack of logic and coherence strike the unprepared reader at every turn. It is humiliating to the human intellect to think that this mediocre literature has been the subject of innumerable commentaries, and that millions of men are still wasting time absorbing it. Thomas Paine When I am told that the Koran was written in Heaven and brought to Mahomet by an angel, the account comes too near the same kind of hearsay evidence and second-hand authority as the former (Book of Exodus). I did not see the angel myself, and, therefore, I have a right not to believe it. |
hopefulLandlord:From reading your posts it is clear that you have a spiritual hunger and are in desperate need of the FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER. Turn to him now and know peace, love, and pasta. |
AgentOfAllah:I find it funny when Muslims emphasize the fact that Muhammad was illiterate (of course, it's possible that he wasn't). Being illiterate does not mean that he was stupid, deaf, blind, or not well traveled. Illiterate people also have very good memories to compensate for their illiteracy. |
