I object to your characterization of atheists! I am the most agreeable person you have ever met. Just look at this: Jews say that Christians and Muslims are wrong Christians say that Jews and Muslims are wrong Muslims say that Jews and Christians are wrong. I agree with all of them! 2 Likes |
Religion / Re: How Did Black People Come Into The World? Explanation Needed by onetrack(m): 8:42pm On Sep 26, 2016 |
MrPresident1: Er, no. Default color can be said to exist, but each region (linked to latitude) has a default color. In northern Europe this would be very pale skin. Along the equator this would be black skin. At latitudes in between, some shade of brown or olive. And as long as people are living far from the equator, they will not become black again. |

Islam for Muslims / Re: Quran Is The Only Unchangeable And Incorruptible Holy Book by onetrack(m): 10:52am On Sep 22, 2016 |
FriendChoice: It is right in front of you. The Quran had multiple early versions and verses removed. This is confirmed in the hadiths and in the early versions found of the Quran. Your choice to see it or not to see it. 2 Likes |

FriendChoice: And another one. Stoning to death as a penalty for adultery does not appear in the Quran. The verse was removed. "...Umar b. Khattab sat on the pulpit of Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) and said: Verily Allah sent Muhammad (may peace be upon him) with truth and He sent down the Book upon him, and the verse of stoning was included in what was sent down to him. We recited it, retained it in our memory and understood it. Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) awarded the punishment of stoning to death (to the married adulterer and adulteress) and, after him, we also awarded the punishment of stoning, I am afraid that with the lapse of time, the people (may forget it) and may say: We do not find the punishment of stoning in the Book of Allah, and thus go astray by abandoning this duty prescribed by Allah. stoning is a duty laid down in Allah's Book for married men and women who commit adultery when proof is established, or it there is pregnancy, or a confession...." FriendChoice: You can plow through this book which discusses extensively the differing versions of the Quran in the Sana'a manuscript: https://www.scribd.com/doc/110978941/Sanaa-1-and-the-Origins-of-the-Qur-An And you can look at this hadith from Sahih Muslim (book 12, 156): Abu Harb b. Abu al-Aswad reported on the authority of his father that Abu Musa al-Ash'ari sent for the reciters of Basra. They came to him and they were three hundred in number. They recited the Qur'an and he said: You are the best among the inhabitants of Basra, for you are the reciters among them. So continue to recite it. (But bear in mind) that your reciting for a long time may not harden your hearts as were hardened the hearts of those before you. We used to recite a surah which resembled in length and severity to (Surah) Bara'at. I have, however, forgotten it with the exception of this which I remember out of it:" If there were two valleys full of riches, for the son of Adam, he would long for a third valley, and nothing would fill the stomach of the son of Adam but dust." And we used so recite a surah which resembled one of the surahs of Musabbihat, and I have forgotten it, but remember (this much) out of it:" Oh people who believe, why do you say that which you do not practise" (lxi 2.) and" that is recorded in your necks as a witness (against you) and you would be asked about it on the Day of Resurrection" (xvii. 13). 2 Likes |

1. Your post contradicts the hadiths and the versions of the Quran found in Yemen, France, and Turkey. 2. There are many books written by men which are much better than the Quran in their expression and eloquence. 3 Likes |

There are multiple versions of the early Quran. There are hadiths which mention verses which were not included in the final version. Sorry but the Quran has been edited as well. 3 Likes |

Religion / Re: by onetrack(m): 9:50am On Sep 20, 2016 |
FriendChoice: Exactly my point. Allah cannot be 'all merciful' and punish anyone, even those who have not asked for forgiveness. And I would never wish eternal fire and torment on people who don't respect me, I'm a lot more merciful than that. Allah is not all merciful. He seems to be the opposite. 1 Like |

FriendChoice: Sura 1 verse 1: "In the name of Allah , the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful." If I understand 'entirely merciful' correctly, then that must mean he automatically pardons all sins, therefore no one goes to hell. If he sets any conditions then he cannot claim to be 'entirely merciful'. Imagine somebody saying that they are 'entirely knowledgeable' but they don't actually know everything. It does not make sense. 2 Likes |

FriendChoice: The very first verse of the first sura contains a very glaring contradiction with the rest of the book. Allah is anything but all-merciful. 2 Likes |

I agree that Christianity is full of confusion, and if you go a bit deeper into Islam, you will also find plenty of confusion as well. Islam's appeal to reason is like this: any reasonable person should see that the Quran is the word of God, plain and simple. I've gone through the Quran carefully and found lots of errors and contradictions and therefore it is not reasonable for me to see it is the word of some god. But in the end Islam demands that you accept it under threats of eternal torture, just like Christianity. This is not an appeal to reason. 2 Likes |

larisoft: It's virtually impossible to disprove the existence of something, especially if that something is presumed to be able to hide itself. I cannot disprove there is a flying pink unicorn circling my house, but I see no reason to believe that there is one because I have zero evidence to prove its existence. I am agnostic like you but my opinion is that there is no all-powerful, omniscient god watching us do horrible things to each other, which is where the 'atheist' part comes in. 4 Likes 1 Share |

larisoft: You perceive it wrongly. I am open to the existence of other beings, but the proof of such doesn't really exist. There is no way to test a hypothesis about the existence of gods. The majority of atheists hold a position similar to my own. We are waiting for evidence that we can test ourselves. I have no faith in anything. In any case all religions are completely man-made--that I am sure of--and are not evidence of anything divine. 2 Likes |

Empiree: Uh. Let me give my personal story. I have twice been on flights that had to make emergency landings--one of them because one of the engines malfunctioned and stopped working. I did not pray or invoke any god or even think about such things. The other time the plane never lost any power but the navigation system malfunctioned. I was reading the God Delusion on the flight. I kept reading. I have been on a couple of other flights through very rough weather where other passengers were shouting. Once again, no prayer from me. End of stories. An atheist 4 Likes |
