Hello theist,
I am an atheist which means i beleive in the supernatural...

I don't think atheist means what you think it means.
Religion / Re: Why I Become An Agnostic by onetrack(m): 9:35pm On Sep 08, 2016
seggzz, I agree with you, but you do realize that most atheists are agnostic as well. You will rarely meet an atheist who thinks that they can disprove the existence of any god. This includes myself. I am not 100% certain that there are no gods.

So why can't somebody a Christian Muslim but can be an agnostic Christian?

Because one (gnostic or agnostic) describes a state of knowing, while the other (religion) expresses a belief. These are fundamentally different aspects. There are decent descriptions of agnostic atheism on several websites, with which I agree.

A gnostic theist, therefore, believes in some god and is certain that they exist. An agnostic theist, by contrast, believes in some god but is not sure that this god exists, or at least admits that he has no way of knowing.

You cannot be a Christian Muslim as far as I know because they hold fundamentally opposing beliefs (although Chrislam is a thing tongue )

The same thing with your atheism too. A belief is not necessarily a belief system. Agnostic atheism is an impossible position. It's not only irrational but also ridiculous. I'd like to know whoever coined the term.

Atheists are simply those who believe there's no God and claim to know there's no God. Why do you disdain Christain teachings and claim of God's Existence if it's just a belief and not a conviction of God's absence?

You guys disdain the idea of a God and even insult the religionists for allowing themselves to be brainwashed but now I should agree that you've got no conviction there's God?

Before I address your other point I'd like to know why Atheists disdain, insult, and even pity religious minds if indeed they are not hundred percent sure there's no God? This is like an emotional position/argument but I'd like to see how you respond to it.

Agnostic atheism is not an impossible position for the reasons I explained. You insist that atheists claim to know that there is no god, which is not necessarily true. I do not make that claim, I simply do not have any belief in any god, I do not know that there is no god--this is the agnostic part of what I am saying.

As far as atheists insulting religious people, well I can't say I insult religious people, but remember that believing in a god and having a religion are two different things. God(s) cannot be disproved, but religion certainly can, and has been disproven.

I can't claim to know that there is no god but I am certain that religions do not come from any god. Most people are religious because of their parents and that is it. It's hard to watch the crazy pastors and gullible believers without laughing, to be honest.

But I didn't say they are the same thing. You can show me if I did. Your agnostic and atheism are belief systems that requires Knowledge. How can one stand by two different ideas at the same time? Can I be a black white?

The word agnostic does not express a belief system; it expresses a state of not knowing.

As an agnostic atheist, I do not believe in any god, but I cannot say that I know that there are no gods.

How can one be about knowledge and the other about belief with both are about belief and knowledge. I'd like to have access to whoever coined that name. Can I say I am Christian Muslim? Or that I am a married bachelor?

Belief and knowledge are not the same thing. I can have an opinion about something without actually having much knowledge about it.

Reyginus:
I think it's the other way round. How can you claim two contradictory positions at the same time and want to be seen as sane? You are either agnostic or atheist. You can't be both.

"Agnostic atheist" is an accepted theological position; one is about knowledge and the other is about belief.

Lol. Dumb. Is God an exclusive of the Christian doctrine or bible? That would be impeding the argument.

Let me use an analogy. If you tell me there's an elephant in your room I'd not believe you if you can't really show me. That's rational. But I will not hold a position that there's no elephant in your room.

I might say, I'm not sure there's an elephant in your room, knowing your penchant for petty lies. That's rational. What is irrational is saying that 'I am hundred percent sure' there's no elephant in your room. A room I'm yet to enter. How do you plead?

It might be a better analogy to use an animal which no one has ever seen before and which has only existed in legends. If you said you have a flying horse in your room I would not believe you at all. However, I don't personally know any atheist, including myself, who says that god does not exist 100%.

I may not be talking about you. Atheism as a system is too irrational. It's more irrational than Theism. I know a lot of smart people know this. When people call themselves Atheist it's either they know this or too ignorant.

And being rational means I have to accept the talking snake mentioned in the Bible as true? And Eve was created from a rib? And "god" would only forgive our sins if we believe that his son got put to death for these sins? grin
Religion / Re: Atheism Contradicts Newtons First Law by onetrack(m): 6:05am On Sep 03, 2016
We atheists make no assumptions about the origins of the universe, if there even are any origins. What you are doing is using the argument "we don't understand therefore it must be god" which I do not accept.

Any religion that is so sensitive to criticism must be built on a very fragile base. Followers of this religion must realize at some level the lack of rational basis for its existence.

Interesting that most of the money the IMF has given out of the last ten years has been to developed European countries. They don't know how to manage their economies either, and the European Central Bank has been using extreme and desperate measures to keep many European countries from collapsing.

The IMF has actively participated in the destruction of Greece, which has gone from a 1st world country to a 3rd world country in just 10 years.

Do not trust the IMF. Listen to what they have to say but decisions must reflect local realities and the IMF should not have a say in whatever happens, no matter how much money they dangle before the government.

At least you admitted that our ignorance is sophisticated, whatever that means...I guess that's a compliment.

And you are correct that we do in fact rely on science as a way of knowing, and so do you by the fact that you are typing on a computer which was developed by scientific research and not by prayer.

Religion / Re: Is It Rational To Believe In Afterlife [A Discussion] by onetrack(m): 9:30am On Aug 13, 2016
Seun:
Comforting lies are generally harmful, and the belief in the afterlife is no exception. False beliefs lead to bad decisions, which are harmful. Mortality isn't a particularly harsh truth. Even young children can handle it: "one day you'll go to sleep and never wake up." What's the big deal?

False beliefs can lead to bad decisions but also good decisions. Someone who believes that some angry, spiteful god is watching them might prevent them from stealing for example.

Also, while you and I might be able to handle the harsh truth, not everyone can. We know that some people just have a more fragile emotional makeup than others.

By the way I definitely give my 'harsh truth' opinion to anyone who asks. I have no problem telling people that death is final, and yes, I have disturbed some people by saying it. But I don't wish to keep forcing my belief on anyone who just does not want to hear it.

Oh good points so in this case you recommmend what the Church call Pius fraud

Personally to me our progress should be measured by the sincerity of our questions and the depth of our answers and our willingness to agree with what is true rather than what feels good

I agree; I'd rather know the harsh true than be told a pleasant lie, but not everybody is strong enough to deal with that and as long as they don't hurt themselves or others, I would say that the rational thing to do is to let them believe their comforting lie.
