Religion / Re: Why I Become An Agnostic by onetrack(m): 9:35pm On Sep 08, 2016 |
seggzz, I agree with you, but you do realize that most atheists are agnostic as well. You will rarely meet an atheist who thinks that they can disprove the existence of any god. This includes myself. I am not 100% certain that there are no gods. |

Reyginus: Because one (gnostic or agnostic) describes a state of knowing, while the other (religion) expresses a belief. These are fundamentally different aspects. There are decent descriptions of agnostic atheism on several websites, with which I agree. A gnostic theist, therefore, believes in some god and is certain that they exist. An agnostic theist, by contrast, believes in some god but is not sure that this god exists, or at least admits that he has no way of knowing. You cannot be a Christian Muslim as far as I know because they hold fundamentally opposing beliefs (although Chrislam is a thing ) |

Religion / Re: Everyone Pray For Sonofluc1fer Who's On NAIRALAND, He Is POSSESSED.. by onetrack(m): 5:05pm On Sep 05, 2016 |
Reyginus: Agnostic atheism is not an impossible position for the reasons I explained. You insist that atheists claim to know that there is no god, which is not necessarily true. I do not make that claim, I simply do not have any belief in any god, I do not know that there is no god--this is the agnostic part of what I am saying. As far as atheists insulting religious people, well I can't say I insult religious people, but remember that believing in a god and having a religion are two different things. God(s) cannot be disproved, but religion certainly can, and has been disproven. I can't claim to know that there is no god but I am certain that religions do not come from any god. Most people are religious because of their parents and that is it. It's hard to watch the crazy pastors and gullible believers without laughing, to be honest. 1 Like |

Reyginus: The word agnostic does not express a belief system; it expresses a state of not knowing. As an agnostic atheist, I do not believe in any god, but I cannot say that I know that there are no gods. 1 Like |

Religion / Re: Everyone Pray For Sonofluc1fer Who's On NAIRALAND, He Is POSSESSED.. by onetrack(m): 10:58am On Sep 04, 2016 |
Reyginus: "Agnostic atheist" is an accepted theological position; one is about knowledge and the other is about belief. |

Reyginus: It might be a better analogy to use an animal which no one has ever seen before and which has only existed in legends. If you said you have a flying horse in your room I would not believe you at all. However, I don't personally know any atheist, including myself, who says that god does not exist 100%. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Reyginus: And being rational means I have to accept the talking snake mentioned in the Bible as true? And Eve was created from a rib? And "god" would only forgive our sins if we believe that his son got put to death for these sins? |
Religion / Re: Atheism Contradicts Newtons First Law by onetrack(m): 6:05am On Sep 03, 2016 |
We atheists make no assumptions about the origins of the universe, if there even are any origins. What you are doing is using the argument "we don't understand therefore it must be god" which I do not accept. 6 Likes 1 Share |

Any religion that is so sensitive to criticism must be built on a very fragile base. Followers of this religion must realize at some level the lack of rational basis for its existence. |

Politics / Re: Economy: Buhari Rejects IMF And World Bank Prescriptions by onetrack(m): 8:33am On Aug 19, 2016 |
Interesting that most of the money the IMF has given out of the last ten years has been to developed European countries. They don't know how to manage their economies either, and the European Central Bank has been using extreme and desperate measures to keep many European countries from collapsing. The IMF has actively participated in the destruction of Greece, which has gone from a 1st world country to a 3rd world country in just 10 years. Do not trust the IMF. Listen to what they have to say but decisions must reflect local realities and the IMF should not have a say in whatever happens, no matter how much money they dangle before the government. 4 Likes |

Religion / Re: 3 BAD Trends For Atheists by onetrack(m): 5:24am On Aug 16, 2016 |
The idea that atheism is declining in popularity is irrelevant to me (if it's even true), since I am in a country of 99% believers. If I cared about being part of a crowd I would never be an atheist in the first place. I am atheist for other reasons. |

Religion / Re: Is It Rational To Believe In Afterlife [A Discussion] by onetrack(m): 9:30am On Aug 13, 2016 |
Seun: False beliefs can lead to bad decisions but also good decisions. Someone who believes that some angry, spiteful god is watching them might prevent them from stealing for example. Also, while you and I might be able to handle the harsh truth, not everyone can. We know that some people just have a more fragile emotional makeup than others. By the way I definitely give my 'harsh truth' opinion to anyone who asks. I have no problem telling people that death is final, and yes, I have disturbed some people by saying it. But I don't wish to keep forcing my belief on anyone who just does not want to hear it. |
Religion / Re: Is It Rational To Believe In Afterlife [A Discussion] by onetrack(m): 4:41pm On Aug 12, 2016 |
johnydon22: I agree; I'd rather know the harsh true than be told a pleasant lie, but not everybody is strong enough to deal with that and as long as they don't hurt themselves or others, I would say that the rational thing to do is to let them believe their comforting lie. |
