Crime / See What Happened To 3 Corpers That Raped Their Teenage Student In Rivers State by onismate: 4:48am On Apr 01, 2016
Note: Not the true life story of the author, but was narrated to him while wrote.
I don’t support rape neither will in get involve with it. And I will always support the prosecution of any rapist.
I was posted to Borno state for my NYSC which I didn’t like. I was given opportunity to redeploy in Nassarawa state were we camped. I redeployed to Rivers state where I was posted to Degema Local Government.
I reported to my PPA. I was given a house with 4 rooms I shared with 3 other male 2015 batch A corpers. I am batch B.
As time went on, I couldn’t cope with what I was experiencing in the compound with my fellow corpers. Each time am in their midst, they don’t talk about reasonable things. They only talk about the women they had slept with. Their many adventures with women, women with biggest bum-bum and bust in the community. These guys go as far as toast market women and the female students they teach. They just talk about stupid things and they barely go to the school they are posted to. I wasn’t just confortable being with them. I began contemplating renting another apartment just to leave that place just barely one month I began staying there.
Second week in February, I came back from school. I discovered that the whole compound looked scattered. The spring handle on one of my buckets I kept outside had been removed. The other two buckets had been broken with so many things scattered. It was unusual to me before I saw a guy, an unknown face coming out of one of my friend’s rooms. The guy was looking mean like a killer. Before I could ask any question, another guy came out of my second guy’s room. He was just scattering the rooms and bringing out my guy’s television set, standing fan and some other valuables. At first I was scared but I had to summon courage because I can’t just see an unknown face taking my neighbour’s property and won’t find out what’s wrong. “Bros abeg wetin dey happen,” I asked, but both of them were not talking. I walked up to the one parking of one of my guy’s things. I saw that the room of one of my friends, the third guy was open. I walked in and saw my three friends stake naked with bruises on their body, with tears on their faces. The three were kneeling down. There were other 3 guys with axe and one of them with a gun in the room. I was so afraid. I wanted to run out of the place but thought that, “what of if as I was trying to run and they shoot me nko.” I tried to relax myself and asked what was going on, no one was talking. Everyone kept mute. “Tell him wetin dey happen nah,” one of the guy said. That was where one of the guys said that my three friends are bad and wicked. That they raped her teenage sister while still sleeping with another. I couldn’t just understand what he said. Na there the guy come begin gist. He said one of my friends was dating one of his sisters, then he began asking out the other teenage sister out. And the teenage sister happens to be one of his students in school. But the teenage girl refused. He had to lure her to his house and three of them raped her. I pitied him as he narrated. He said that the three guys had also slept with the sister one of them was dating. But the one that was paining him was the raping of his teenage sister. And the incident happened in late January and my guys had no remorse for it so he was ready to deal with them because he’s a cultist. Another thing the guy said was that the rape happened in late January and he confronted them (my friends). After much pleas, they agreed for a settlement of N100,000 so that they won’t report the rape issue to the principal of the school and Local Government inspector (L.I). Because if the case is reported, that would be a thorough punishment. But till that moment, the guys had refused to pay up the money. And he decided to come with his cultist friend to deal with them. One of my friends said they don’t have money, that if I have any money up to N10,000 that I should just give it to them for that moment that they will pay me later. So that the guys can release them. I felt pity for them. They had been beaten badly that they were all crying. I didn’t have money with me but I told them I didn’t have any money with me but in my account. I told them that I will go withdraw some money from ATM and give to them money. But the bad guys said two of them must follow me to take the money from the ATM. But I refused. They said that was the only way to confirm the money and release my guys. My guys began begging me to allow the two guys follow me. I was only doing it to save them. I went into my room to get my ATM card, and something struck my mind. “What if all these were set up to defraud me? What if it wasn’t a set up but at the ATM point I will be forced to withdraw all my money?” I thought about it for a moment. It won’t be wise for those cult guys to follow me to the ATM point, and perhaps what my friends did was wrong. Raping your own student was bad. “They should just face their consequences, abi na me send them,” I thought to myself. I changed my mind on helping them. As I was thinking of what and how to leave the place, a friend of mine worked in and I told him what was happening. He said we should help him. I told him that I can’t. na so my friend carry the thing for head and said he can’t just watch as they maltreat our friends. Na so the guys follow my friend to ATM machine and they came back with N20,000. When my friend came back, he said they made him swear that if the guys didn’t pay up the remaining N80,000 within 3 days, he will be the one to pay and if he doesn’t they will come for him. “You see how he take involve himself? Thank Jehovah that I opted out of it.” But the raped girl’s brother and his cultist friends still took away my 3 friend’s T.V set and other valuables along.
Two days later, I had already moved out of the compound into my new house. I no want wahala. Before I left, my three friends had already disappeared. They didn’t tell me where they were going. The guy who helped them was calling me that the cultist guys had been calling and disturbing him over the balance of the remaining money and the where about of my 3 friends, that they can’t find my 3 friends, and they are coming for him. I didn’t know what to do or say. Since he decided to get involved with what didn’t concern him so he was receiving the consequences. He had to leave Degema for his life.
But thank God Almighty, after one week the matter was sorted out. My 3 guys had to pay N165,000 to the cultist guys as settlement and refunded the other guy his N20,000.
Left for me, I didn’t like what my friends did. Rape is a bad crime. I believe they have learnt their lessons. In their bid to cover up the crime they have to receive their punishments.

Politics / My Observation And Where INEC Went Wrong On Rivers Re-run Election by onismate: 5:26am On Mar 30, 2016
The last Rivers Re-Run election was full of violence and very bloody with people calling for the heads of Former Governor Amaechi and the present Governor, Wike. Both men of have been tagged demons for not been able to hold, control their men who went on rampage and killing each other’s opponent supporters.
But as an INEC Presiding officer for my polling unit in that last Rivers Re-run, here is what I think about the election and the flaws of INEC and Federal Government. From my observation, INEC was not ready for the election at all. Here is why:
1. Delay at the sharing and commencement of the election: INEC said the election was supposed to start by 8am but it took them till 9:30am for the arrival of election materials to our RAC center. Before materials were shared and everything put in place for us to leave to our polling units, it was around 1:30pm, which is not supposed to be. So the elections started late. INEC should try to keep to time.
2. No availability of Transportation to convey Adhoc staffs and materials to their polling units: Now this one is so worrisome. After the materials had been distributed to us, there was no means of transportation provided by INEC to convey us to our polling units. All that brought the first heavy fight and violence in my RAC center when one of the heavy weight party in Nigeria carried corpers who were presiding officers for their wards in their hilux car. The other heavy weight party refused. They locked the gate of the RAC that the car conveying those corpers won’t leave that compound. And that they were taking the corpers to an unknown destination to rig the election. The other party denied it that they were just trying to help convey the corpers since INEC didn’t make provision. Na so the thing start ooo. There were gunshots and fight. Na so the corpers finally leave the car, carry materials for their head come jump enter okada without security and went to their polling units. INEC failed in this aspect. They ought to have provided everything needed for the elections. Imagine if hoodlums intercepted those materials from those corpers!
3. They provided armless security for us for each polling unit: in Rivers state, Christianity is their main religion, after Christianity is politics. Politics is their second religion. They don’t joke with politics in Rivers state. For a state prone to violence, if INEC was ready that they want a violent free and fair election, one security official attached to a polling unit was not enough. Infact even the one security official was not armed.** just imagine** The female security officer attached to my unit had nothing but only her uniform as an official of NSCDS to prove she was a security personnel. No gun or even weapon at all. When my election material was snatched, na she first run for her life. This is a lesson to INEC. For the local Governments remaining for the elections, they should make sure to deploy at least 6 police armed men to a polling unit to avoid harassment and breakdown of law and order. Even as a Presiding officer, I was harassed my hoodlums and even voters.
4. Avoid Materials Error: INEC should try and avoid errors and mistakes due to the sensitivity of their work. 75% of the card readers provided for the election was not working. Most of us were left with no choice than to make use of manual authentication method. Another blunder committed by INEC was omitting PDP in the result sheets. I was nearly beaten in my polling unit because of that, as if I was INEC. INEC should be careful next time because these errors can incite violence because other parties would think INEC wants to rig election for another party.
5. Insurance for INEC Adhoc staff who participate in the elections: The Federal Government and INEC should provide a suitable insurance scheme for people, most especially corp members participating in the election because it seem politicians are using them as sacrificial lambs. And they are also prone to dangers in the work field. No body prays for the death of anyone but insurance will go a long way just incase of any unforeseen circumstances.

Romance / How Uniport Girl Dealt With Him After Promising Her A Job Without Fulfilling It by onismate: 5:18am On Mar 25, 2016
It was a free for all for some male corp members who used advantage they were giving as presiding officers (P.Os) of their polling unit to unleash their quest on some female University of Port Harcourt girls who were looking to eat from the Rivers Election re-run money.
It all started when INEC officials on Friday 18/03/2016 pasted the list of Presiding officials (P.O) and their assistance(A.P.O) for the Rivers state 2016 election re-run. Funny enough, almost all the whole corpers posted to Onelga LGA are to be presiding officers. And so many Uniport girls that came around to check their names couldn’t see theirs. That means they are not going to act as INEC Ad-hoc staff. Many of them had to start mingling with corpers who either their APO1, APO2 or APO3 were not available so they could replace them. Trust some male corpers nah. Them no wan dull the moment. They have seen an advantage and they were ready to capitalize on it. For me, my APO1 and APO2 was available. Infact they located me. My corper friend only found his APO1. One of the Uniport girls began disturbing him for her to work as APO2 for him. Na my friend come dey do shakara for her. Ome of the girls approached me to work as APO3 for me but I turned them down. Abeg I no want wahala. I warned my friend to be patient till the next day which was the election because his second APO might just show up. But my friend no gree. Infact he told the Uniport girl that he can only allow her work as his APO2 if she sleeps with him. At first the girl rejected it but later foolishly accepted. And the girl came with her friend who started pressuring me to work as my APO3. I turned it down even after much pleas. Because I can only look for another APO the election day if I am sure the other(s) were not available.
The next day, after my friend had enjoyed himself with the Uniport girl in his room at the corpers lodge, behold, his APO2 showed up. Na there problem start. Uniport girl refused to back out. infact she was the one who exposed my friend that he slept with her promising to make her APO2. INEC officers no wan hear that one. The list they had pasted that contains our APOs was the one they were using. My friend’s Original and authentic APO said “lai-lai, he was not giving up his original position to anyone.” Na so the uniport girl grab my friend INEC bag that contains his materials for his polling unit. She grabbed it and wanted to destroy it until the security officials had to take her out of the place. He threatened to deal with my friend if he didn’t give her N9,000. Na so this babe wait for my friend oo, because she’s from that community. After the election she connived with some boys and forcefully collected N15,000 given to him by one of the top politicians in the unit he worked. The thing pain my friend. But I warned him. I hope he learnt his lessons.

NYSC / So It Took The Death Of A Corper For Rivers State To Reinstate State Allowee! by onismate: 5:56am On Mar 24, 2016
So it took the death of a corp member, Samuel okonta for the Rivers state Government to Reinstate their state allowances paid to corpers. It was a pity that the late corper involved couldn’t enjoy it. When Governor Wike visited the NYSC Rivers state secretariat and state coordinator, Mrs Ngozi Watarali to commiserate the death of a corp member, Samuel Okonta during the last Re-run election.
The Rivers state Government stopped paying corp members allowee in 2012 when Amaechi was the Governor. And till the day of the election re-run, 19/03/2016 there was no hope of the state allowee payment. And it was because of the extra cash corpers were looking for that was what made so many of us corpers to participate in the election. We were looking to make extra income. Thereby risking our lives in this bloody election.
Dear Samuel okonta, it was a pity that it was the reason of your death that Rivers state reinstated their state allowee to corpers, and even increased it from N10,000 to N15,000 to corpers serving outside Port Harcourt, and from N5,000 to N10,000 to corpers serving in Port Harcourt. Rest in Peace to the dead. You didn’t leave to enjoy the state allowee. Na even all us they clamour for the state allowee. Na when you come die, that was when Rivers state Governor wike visited and reinstated state allowee, (because of your death). We love you our fellow corp member and we pray that God give you the fortitude to bear the loss.
RIP bro.

NYSC / Rivers Re-run: Corper Narrates How He Was Beaten, Robbed At His Polling Unit by onismate: 4:46am On Mar 23, 2016
Please Note: for reference purpose, am using “Party P1 and Party P2” to describe two of the parties involved in this elections. Am not using their real names..both parties are the 2 major parties in Nigeria.
I have head couple of negative commentsabout Rivers state elections.
Last year 2015, the corpers lodge in Buguma, Asari toru LGA was set on fire because of the power tussle. Politicians in Rivers state turn themselves to animals during elections. It all started when the 2015 state house of Assembly, Representatives and senatorial election results in Rivers whereannulled by tribunal. So that means there would be a fresh election for all the positions. So many corpers like me had already made up there mind that they won’t participate as INEC adhoc staffs for security reasons.
Few monts later as the election re-run was fixed, tension increased in Rivers and Buguma my Placeof primary assignment with various killings. Many indigenes were disappearing. The week of the election, INEC came and trained us. The tension was still high. So many corpers opted out. We had already been told that corpers will be Presiding officers (P.Os) for their polling unit. So many corpers opted out of the election due to the fears, past experiences and what was going on in that Asari-Toru LGA. Coupled with the fact that the military men at the entrance of the town intercepted a casket fullof guns and other weapons. They were been transported into the Buguma to cause havoc during the election Re-run. Gradually, some corp members were opting out of the elections. The worst partof it was that the town crier said that all boys should leave the town, if not heads will roll.2 days to the elections, Buguma town was becoming empty, indigenes were leaving the town in mass just for safety. So many people had advised corpers to boycott the election unless we are guaranteed of our safety. Even when one of my students, when we were playing football on Thursday (2 days to re-run) said that the people that will come into the town the election day will be terror, and infact that all of us will run away. Andhis brother is one of the bad people that will come into the town. I and my fellow corp members took the threat seriously but with assurance from the Army closetoour lodge that the town is safe. Not until the day of the election Re-run, 19/03/2016. It’s official, “I am the Presiding officer (P.O) of my polling unit in Buguma, Asari Toru local Government. Election materials were given to I and my other fellow corp members that are P.Os of their units. As at 1:40pm when everything had been handed over to me, I took my materials to my unit. On getting there, trying to set up the arena to start the elections, I started hearing loud gun shots. Suddenly one hoodlum who I guessed was supporting one of the megaparties which I tagged “party P1.” The guyjust rushed to me and grabbed the INEC bag from me. In that INEC bag has the election results sheets, the card reader and other sensitive materials. Na so fear catch me I come run go one side. The security attached to me didn’t help matters. She is an NSCDC official. She ranaway. As the hoodlum was taking my bagaway, why some voters fled, one of the voters who I presumed was an agent of Party P2 rushed the hoodlum and began beating him until he fled. Infact that Party P2 agent and his other supporters promised that if they find any Party P1 supporter or agent in that polling unit andward, they will kill them. Before I knew what was happening, a woman who was hanging a logo and slogan of Party P1 on her neck fled. Fear gripped me. My APO tried to calmed me down. He said I should relax that they will protect me. At that moment, I wasn’t myself .Few minutes later as the voting process began, the card reader stopped working. They machine was not capturing anything. Na there I see another side of Buguma people. They asked me to use the manual method which I refused because INEC has warned without the card reader capturing any card, no voting process should be allowed. The voters began attacking me verbally. I just kept my calm. Thank God for my APO1 who is from that town. And infact, my unit and the place the election was taking place is his compound. He tried calming the voters down. I had to pack up the materials and went back to the RAC to see if the card reader could be rectified. When I got back to the RAC, I saw some corp members from other units. They saidthey were not going back to their units because hoodlums were shooting guns. Na so I begin rethink ooo because I no wan lose my life. But my APO1 was with me. He was encouraging me that if manual method was approved, we shouldgo back. After some minutes that it was discovered that 75% of the card readers issued to us were not functioning properly, my SPO said I should use accredit voters manually. I and the femalesecurity and my 2 APOs went back to the polling unit. On our way back, one of the agents working for Party P2 rushed me. He said he will deal with me that I was working for party P1. He nearly physically attacked me until my APO1 spoke their language and began pleading with him to leave me. It was glaring that that ward was dominated by party P2 they were all ready to do anything to win that ward. As I was going to my unit, Many hoodlums and some party P2 agents were just following me. I wasn’t confortable anymore. I was full of fear but my APO1 was trying to calm me down. All of them want to use me to achieve their purpose. When I got to my unit, I began manually accrediting voters as they voted, with great fear in me. Suddenly we began hearing gunshots and people began running away. Before I knew what was happening, many of the voters had ran away. The security official assigned to myunit had immediately changed to mufti and disappeared, leaving me behind. As I was about trying to put the card reader and result sheets into my personal bag so I will leave the place, about two hefty guys with matchets ran to me and began slapping and hitting me. They asked me to give them the result sheets. I gave them everything. They even took my phones and the money with me. As they moved, I ran for my dear life. Bullets were just flying in the air like knockouts. I ran to the military check points and saw many of my fellow corp members. Many of them were physically assaulted with their phones and money collected from them. We were taken to the INEC office inside their local council were we wrote a statement concerning our lost items. It was there and then that the electoral officials signed that the election in that local government is cancelled due to the massive violence.
Many of us corpers left the town immediately for safety. I have never seen an election that is so violent like this in my life. The worse part of it is that federal Government will assign an unarmed security agent to a polling unit. What is the essence of providing security in this kind of area without them being armed! May God help us.

Politics / Election Re-run In Rivers State: Advise To Corpers As Peace Returns To Buguma by onismate: 4:08am On Mar 15, 2016
Buguma is a small town and capital of Asari-Toru local Government. A town surrounded by water and synonymous with violence and militancy. Many believed that the Niger Delta militancy first started here with top heavy weight ex-militants like Asari Dokubo being an indigene of this town.

An uneasy calmness returns Buguma, the headquarters of Asari Toru local Government Area of Rivers state. Recall that on Monday 7/03/2016, a popular indigene who is reported to be an APC chieftain in the community was killed and burnt after it was reported that the mother of the caretaker chairman (CTC) of Asari-Toru LGA was kidnapped on Sunday 6/03/2016 in Port Harcourt on her way to church. It was alleged that the murdered APC chieftain was attacked because of his jubilation in the town over the kidnap of the CTC's mother. The incident brought tension to the town, Buguma. But it seemed that the few security officers deployed on that Monday 7/03/2016 couldn’t do much because there was an attack on Wednesday 9/03/2016 by unknown gun men alleged to be working for some top politicians in the L.G.A . The attack on Wednesday saw another top indigene of the community killed too and few others shot by gun. And security officials are yet to apprehend the attackers.

Currently, a look into Buguma town, the town has become Is a shadow of itself commercial activities reduced to it’s a minimum. A look into the streets, So many shops of traders have been locked down with their owners who had fled to Port Harcourt for a while due to safety reasons.
All these attacks are coming few days to the rerun election for state house Assembly, federal house of Representatives and the senate in Rivers state.

The Nigerian Army has deployed more soldiers to the Buguma town. The soldiers had been raiding homes of some top thugs and miscreants. According to reports, soldiers had recovered guns and dangerous weapons from the homes of those thugs. They are also making sure that the corp members at the corpers lodge in the town are safe and secured. The soldiers have intensified a “stop and search” method in other to prevent hoodlums from bringing in weapons into the town.

Now this is a safety message to corp members serving in Rivers state;

All corp members serving in violent prone communities like Onelga LGA (Omoku, Ogba), Ahoada East/west, Asari-Toru, Gokana, Akuku-Toru. Corp members are advised to conduct themselves before and after the election. Make sure there I.D cards are always with them for proper identification. And if there is any form of life threatening violence in your community of service, please you are advised to leave the place immediately if there is an opportunity, for safety reasons. Your life is more important than any other thing else. Protect yourself.

Jobs/Vacancies / How I Got A Good Job Because Of The Personal CDS Project I Did When I Served by onismate: 6:23am On Mar 10, 2016
Now who says you can't get a job because of the personal CDS project you did in NYSC? Who says that proper documentation of the good work you did online can't get you a job? Well, am a living testimony.. This is my story...

I served in a small community in Akwa Ibom state. And my place of primary assignment was a small community secondary school with a population of 30.
In 2014, 3 months before my NYSC passing out parade (POP). I was thinking what I would do for my community. I had spent 8 months there. At first when I came into the community, there was no electricity power, no constant browsing network. So I thought of what to do that will be less expensive since I can’t give them power. I finally settled on giving text books to my school and notebooks, writing materials to the students. I spent about N12,000 of my money to buy the books and other things. The day I donated the materials to the school and students, one of my colleague and fellow corper took pictures. I didn’t really see it as a big deal with the photos because we call him “blogger.” He has a website. He said in some big communities and PPAs, what I did, some big media houses would have carried it on their stations and print media. Me sef I no even send. I just saw it as normal thing. “And why should I go to the media because I want to donate some things, charity work.” So blogger said he would upload the story and photos of what I did on his website. Other corpers laughed. Some were like “who will see those photos,” considering that it was still a young and not even popular website. It was only corpers in that small community that know he has a website and calls him blogger. I felt nobody again knows his website. Some even call him “Fake blogger.”
So blogger convinced me to allow him post my story and the photos of what I did on his website. Some of my colleagues felt maybe he would use it to make money on his website. He said it would boost my moral and for proper documentation. For me, I didn’t really make any real deal about what he wants to do. Maybe because I never knew how far that story could go. Na so I tell him to “go ahead” and use the story. Me sef no put importance on the thing sef. Because I ask myself, “who know me?” He finally posted the story and all the photos on his website. I saw it and it would have been vanguard, punch and other big news media. But I encouraged him. He encouraged other corpers to do the same thing I did, document photos of what they did for their community and put them online, we never can tell who will see it. Some of us corpers then didn’t see anything in it.
After passing out, all of us went to our different ways. I searched for a good job but couldn’t get one. I had to settle for a teaching job in a local school in Lagos where I was paid N15,000. I thought 3 classes and 4 subjects. It was stressful.
In late 2015, a friend of mine told me that an international NGO affiliated to United nation was recruiting. When I saw the requirements for the job, I was discouraged because they were much. Though my friend told me that if I get the job the pay is so good that one month salary can even change my life. The incentives and traveling to countries was part of the job. Part of the job requirements was that applicant would have 3 years’ experience in humanitarian work. That one I never get. I told my friend that I couldn’t meet up to most of the requirements. She encouraged me to apply atleast I still have nothing to lose. I applied and continued with my teaching job.
0ne month I was surprised when I got a call from the organization to come for oral interview in Abuja. I went for the interview. When one of the staffs of the organization addressed us, he said we were 500 people that applied for the job but they scaled it down to 25 of us. And the interview started. When it got to my turn, I entered and I saw it was two white men were in charge. The first question one of them asked me was why I didn’t add the personal community development service (CDS) I did during my service year as an experience. Na so I begin look the man. I was confused and couldn’t recollect or remember what he was talking about. There was a laptop in front of him. He saw I was confused so he turned the laptop to me to see. He showed me the news, photos of what I did in my PPA over a year ago, were I gave text book, notebooks and writing materials to students. The webpage was my former colleague, blogger’s website. I had even forgotten about all those things. He (interviewer) apparently Googled it out. immediately I saw it, I didn’t know what to reply him why I didn’t add it to my work experience. “Or are you not the person?” he asked. Because it was my name and photos that was there on the website. I smiled and told him I was the one though forgot to add it. He seemed disappointed. He said that kind of thing does not need to be forgotten easily to be added to my CV. “This is actually a great work that must be added to your CV regularly.” He said. He said next time I should be adding it to my CV. The other interviewer said “Would there be even next time? There won’t be any next time because you will work for us. You won’t look for another job.” Apparently I had been hired. I was so happy as I was told to stand and go to the HR department. As I stood up and was leaving, one of the interviewer called me back. He said if they were to go through my qualifications and requirements for the job, I didn’t even meet up to some of them. But it was what I did during my service year, from what they saw on the photos stood me out. The little I had, I was able to give back to my PPA. “Keep it up. It will be great working with you,” one of them said. I was happy as I left there. I received my appointment and began my job. That was how I got the job ooo and since then my life had not remain the same. Getting any country visa is not even a problem to me. Me that was even thinking if I will even travel out Nigeria in my life time. Infact na people, organizations for outside country dey ask when my organization will come for a project in their Countries.
So my advice to people, most especially corp members, no matter where you are serving, please give back to your community genuinely and make sure you document and share it online. The internet is a big place where many organizations, companies come to get information about applicants. So you never can tell who will see it and you receive reward for your hardwork. I know corpers are complaining that it’s not worth giving back because the Government is not paying much. But God will surely reward you.
For Christian the Blogger, he’s doing great and I have now come to appreciate what he did in 2014. I didn’t appreciate it then. But now I really do and eating from it.

Crime / His Uncle Was Kidnapped, Released Without Paying Any Ramsome by onismate: 5:29am On Mar 08, 2016
I am telling this story for each and every one of us to be careful. Kidnappers are on rampage in Nigeria, from Port Harcourt to Kano, Kaduna, Enugu, Owerri and Lagos which seem less penetrative by kidnappers. Kidnapping cases are just increasing in Lagos. How my uncle escaped from their deadly hands was a great miracle.

Two weeks back, late February 2016 precisely. My uncle who is a Pastor in Lagos was taking his daughter school that Thursday morning on the mainland when he was intercepted by a group of men with guns. And he was with his daughter and the driver of the car. But God being so gracious, the driver managed to escape with his daughter while the kidnappers took my uncle to an undisclosed thick bush area in Ijebu-Ode in Ogun state. According to my uncle, he said when they were taking him to that bush part, they were walking into a thick bush that looked like forest. The kidnappers were making calls to their counterparts, I guess to know how to strategize and demand for ramsome. But it was unfortunate that over 15 calls they made were not going through. The ones that went through, the people they called were not picking the calls. It looked as if they were just on their own. My uncle said he didn’t know what came over him that he busted into laugher on seeing what was going on. He just developed that boldness. He told them they can’t get anything thing from him. That he’s just a man of God. And that they can only get Jesus for kidnapping him. Say dem no go get any money. Na so dem do oooo. And he had only N7,000 with him. The kidnappers collected the N7,000. They gave him N500 out of the money for transportation and released him. He came back home unhurt.

Kidnappers are on rampage, and it seemed kidnapping business is booming. The Government should act fast.

Politics / The experiences i had that made me lose respect for Nigerian police by onismate: 4:15am On Mar 01, 2016
The Nigerian Army and police force are there to protect the state and its citizens. Many have complained that the two security agencies are fond of assaulting innocent civilians. It is quite true. But as a serving corp member, I have come to realize some few things about the Nigerian police force and the Nigerian Army, there relationship with Corp members and their respect for them.

I love the two Nigerian agencies of the Army and police force. But as a corper, from my experiences, I seems to prefer the Nigerian military than the police in terms of the way they treat corpers. Am saying it from couple of experiences I have had with these two agencies.

I could remember couple of times I had been stranded on the highway in the state and place of primary assignment (PPA). I waited and when the Nigerian police car was passing by, I waved for them to stop and see if they can carry me, but, lai-lai. They never stopped. They just zoomed off, even with my corper uniform, them no even fit stop. But when the Nigerian Army was driving by with their car, I just waved just once for them to stop. Immediately they slowed down and stopped. They carried me immediately to a safe place where I was able to get a car to my destination.

Another scenario occurred when I was travelling. The driver of the motorcycle that carried me stopped and said he was no longer going towards my direction due to security reasons. Na so I just dey in the middle of nowhere. A car that was passing by which had police men inside, I waved if they could stop and help but dem no stop at all, even with my NYSC crested shirt. But thank God that at my front was a military check point. One of the army men sighted me from afar and waved me to come over. I came and he asked why I was there and were I was going. I told him. This soldier began stopping cars going towards my direction. Finally we got one which is a private car, and I entered. He wrote down the number plate of the car, collected the driver’s phone number and mine. He said I should get in contact with him once I get to my destination. And did same when I got to my destination.

Another scenario occurred one particular morning when I was on my way to community development service (CDS) in rumuokoro in Port Harcourt. The roundabout junction was congested. For those of us familiar with Port Harcourt city. There is no traffic light. Some kids were going to school, nobody was interested to stop cars for some moments so the school kids can cross. I didn’t just know what came over me, I just left where I was and went to the roundabout and raised my right hand up to stop the car coming from the left. Thank God I was wearing NYSC uniform. As I raised my hand up to the left, the cars coming stopped. I turned to the right. Funny enough the car coming was a Nigerian Army car carrying soldiers with guns. At first I was scared of stopping them but I summoned the courage and raised my hand and they stopped. I turned to the other junction to stop the cars coming from that direction so to make way for the school kids to cross the road. As I raised my hand up for the cars to stop, the driver was proving stubborn. He tried to smuggle his way. Na so the three of the soldiers came down from the car and asked the man to stop, and that if he moves, he would be dealt with. He stopped. Immediately I saw what was going on, chaiii, I was so happy. It looked as if I was flying high and was untop of the world. I held the cars till the school kids crossed before the army moved. They (Army) saluted me as they were leaving. Other cars moved till I saw a police van coming from another direction. I tried stopping them so they won’t disorganize the movements, they didn’t even listen. Infact the one in the front seat asked me to get out of the way. Trust Nigerians nah. Na so I comot and they passed and as they were passing, other cars behind them followed thereby disorganizing movements. Na so another gridlock start. Na so I waka leave them comot for there.

With all these, I feel the Army loves and respects corpers than the Nigerian police. Am not saying this for us to bash the Nigerian police but for them to learn. My Local Government of PPA is a great place though with high rate of kidnapping and fighting. Some corpers were kidnapped there last year and indigenes are being kidnapped regularly. But na Baba God they protect us. Nigerian soldiers are more in numbers with their check points more than Nigerian police. So they are not taking chances. Anything relating to corpers, they try to make us safe no matter what it takes. But the Nigerian police will just drive pass us. Them no care.

Shout out to Nigerian Army, even the soldiers in far north east fighting insurgency. Shout out to the Nigerian police force too.

NYSC / Lassa-Fever: Rivers Corpers Go To The Streets For Sensitization by onismate: 5:02pm On Feb 24, 2016
Early 2016, a female secondary school student was bitten by a rat, she threw up continuously with heavy fever and high body temperature. Fear gripped her family members. No one could detect what was going on with the student at that moment and it the rise of Lassa fever in Nigeria. Many felt it was typhoid fever or ordinary without going to the clinic. No teaching corper wants to lose their student. But thank God she’s alive and has recovered.
In our bid to make the world a better place, sickness and disease free environment, corp members in Rivers state has taken it upon itself to sensitize people in the state on Lassa fever. The Department of Disease Control services of Rivers state primary health care management Board deemed it fit to partner with the Corp members to project their message to market women and other places. The sensitization started in Buguma in Asari-Toru LGA of Rivers state with the President Of the community development service (CDS), Corpr Okhakumhe Gideon coordinating the environmental campaign and sensitization. Corper Gideon was supported by Vice President, Corper Oladenoye David Olamiyo and Corper Chinagorom Ikechukwu, with massive input from other corp members.
According to the CDS President, Corper Gideon, he said they started the sensitization from the market to help educate market women, most especially Garri sellers on their food protection against Lassa fever, and to maintain healthy living. This project was also supported by NYSC and Rivers state Government.
Note: Please let’s try and keep our environment clean, food healthy. Here are couple of photos from the sensitization campaign.

Romance / How Long Throat Nearly Led Me Into Trouble On Valentines Day by onismate: 9:36am On Feb 20, 2016
I love FOC, which corper doesn’t like it? FOC is a phrase used as “free of charge.” This is where people, most especially corpers were any of NYSC emblem, signifying us as corpers. They stand on the way side waiting and looking for a car or motorcycle that wil carry them to their destination free of charge. So any car wey carry corpers for free without collecting a dime from them becomes FOC for that day. And the thing dey sweet all corpers because it saves money for us. When nice and compassionate drivers see us, they would love to help us.

On the 12th of February 2016, as usual I managed to see foc that was going to Tema junction in Asari-Toru LGA. I was leaving Degema and headed to Buguma to see a female friend and a fellow corper, Tessy. I was to spend the night there and the next morning we go to Port Harcourt. From Tema I saw another foc that took me to Buguma.

The next day 13th, at about 9am,I and tessy left Buguma for Port Harcourt. We saw a motorcycle that carried us free of charge from Buguma to Tema junction because it was easier seeing free FOCs going to Port Harcourt from direction.

When I and Tessy got to Tema junction close to the Army check point there. Barely 10 minutes we stood there, a car drove by. It was a black Honda accord. Na so we stop the car oo. It came to where we were and stopped. Car wined down and it was 2 young men seating inside. One driving and the other at the other seat. The one sitting at the other end asked if we were going towards Choba and Uniport area. Na so we tell him say na Port Harcourt. They said though they were stopping at Choba but they will stop us in Port Harcourt. Na so we enter the back seat. They asked were we will stop in Port Harcourt. We told them it’s “My-one,” and they said they will drop us there. Na so we begin chat ooo. They introduced themselves. The one driving said his name was Preye and the other John. They said they are oil workers but they have house in Abonuma. From small talks we entered love, relationships, sex and valentine. The driver began talking about his ex. Me just dey look dey laugh. My friend Tessy was fully in the conversation. I tried to chip in before john asked if I had a boyfriend. I tell him say I get but he dey Lagos. We talked till we got to My-one and they dropped us. They collected our mobile numbers. They said they will like us to join them on valentine lunch the next day in a restaurant in Abonuma. I guessed Preye saw the expression on my face, as if I was to turn it down. He said I shouldn’t worry about transportation, that they will come and pick us from Tema junction to Abonuma. Tessy said we would be there. I myself wasn’t convinced but not to look ungrateful because they carried us in their car. I nodded in affirmation that we will surely come out at Tema junction before 12pm the next day. When they drove off, I told Tessy that I don’t think I can make it to Abonuma that valentine’s day. “Do you have a date? Its anyone taking you out tomorrow?” she asked. “No,” I answered. “Then why don’t to come, abi you wan just stay for Degema?” she yelled at me. She said if I can’t go, she will go on her own. Tessy said if we stay back it will be boring, and we can’t just stay idle. Someone just offered to take us out so we just follow. But me I was more concerned about our safety. They are just random people we just entered their car. “If you were concerned about your safety and you don’t know them, then why did you entered their car,” Tessy asked.

We did what we went to Port harcout to do and returned back to Buguma. Preye and john called us and we talked for long minutes.

It was February 14th and what woke me up was John’s call. It seemed they had shared themselves among us. Preye went for Tessy while John is coming for me. Well I had made up my mind to go to Abonuma.

12pm we had prepared and gone to Tema junction to wait for the guys. Barely 15 minutes time, the guys showed up with their car and off to Abonuma we went. They took us to one small private bar in a restaurant. The restaurant had a big bar but the guys paid for a private bar. It was only one table in that bar which we occupied. The environment was just unusual. There was only one attendant and no one or customer was there. The guys said they wanted us to have a private time. Na so dem order for pepper soup and spirit. The pepper soup was so pepperish we had to order for water. But they said their water has finished and they had sent somebody to go get water. The guys told us to dilute our tongues with the spirit. Though we were actually doing that to still wait for the water. So as we dey lick pepper soup, if the thing don dey hot for our mouth we go use the spirit step am down. The guys still ordered for Smirnoff and other strong alcoholic drinks. But I noticed something, as time went on, the drinking water was not made available, and the guys were not taking pepper soup. They were eating suya and ordering more pepper soup for us. Infact they were even urging us to be taking more of the alcohol. I wasn’t just confortable with it. My friend Tessy was busy consuming the alcohol without thinking she will get high. I stopped taking the pepper soup, though it was delicious one couldn’t just resist it. But I had to stop because of the pepper. And the more I take it, the more I will clamour for water which was not available. And the more alcohol consumption, the more I will get high.

Till about 3:30pm, no water yet. I began suspecting foul play. My girlfriend no even mind. She was just consuming alcohol as if there was no tomorrow. She was already getting high. Na so I tell them say we want go. They said we can’t just go like that, and that we should still wait till 7pm. Say dem go carry us go Buguma. I began suspecting that they just want to get us high and lay with us. My friend Tessy refused to stand up for us to go. Her highest na still 50% and if we should still stay, something will happen. I myself, I was even beginning to feel somehow. Immediately I just stood up and drag my tessy that we should leave. John stood up and began begging that we should still stay. “Lai-lai” I said. Tessy said she wasn’t leaving. I dragged her from the chair. John held my waist. Before I knew what was happening, he was squeezing my breast. I managed to move myself out of him. I began shouting and screaming. Na so Preye grab tessy and dropped her on the floor. He dipped his hand into her under skirt and tour her pants. Na so I began screaming and ran outside the bar to the big bar and began screaming “rape, rape.” Luckily, some police men on uniform were there drinking. It was them that prevented Preye and John from raping my friend. It was there I learnt that it wasn’t the first time such a thing was going on in that restaurant. And corpers are the ones most affected. Men will bring them there, get them high and sleep with them. We were told that sometimes up to 6 to 7 women would be brought there and got high with alcohol and rape them but yet authorities won’t close down the bar. We left the place while I went to Degema. Tessy went back to Buguma. Thank God I and my friend have learnt our lessons.

NYSC / How greedy corpers escaped being used as rituals in Rivers state by onismate: 5:04am On Feb 17, 2016
“From Oproama to Degema, from Degema to Krakrama, from Krakrama to Angulama, from Angulama to Abalama, Abalama to Buguma, still Rivers state refuses to pay NYSC state Allowee.”

The above is the slogan we corpers in Rivers state use in consolidating ourselves. Many corpers expected goldmine when posted to the oil filled rich state. But were so disappointed that the N10,000 monthly state allowance paid to corp members serving in Rivers state had been stopped for over 2 years. And things in Rivers state are so expensive that corpers have resulted in looking for alternative ways to make more money as back up. But getting that reasonable job for corpers is somewhat difficult with any stringent terms attached to it. Even me sef, I wasn’t left out. My eyes were wide open, seeking for good tutorial work that is convenient for me to earn more money.

I was posted to Asari Toru local Government Area. An island of its own, surrounded by water with few job opportunities. I just braced myself to love the place. Though I envied my friends posted to Portharcourt main towns and most especially Onelga LGA were my very good friend Barry is. Barry had been giving me convincing gists about Onelga LGA where he’s serving. He said they have too many Oil wells in the community. At the back of their corpers lodge was an oil well. Infact barry even said they gave N10,000 each to corpers in Omoku community when 2016 Batch A first came. Na so my adrenalin rise when he tell me that. I was jealous and wished I was posted there. I wished for relocation so I will move to Onelga. All those things propelled me. My eyes come dey shook. Any were wey i see opportunity to make more money, I just want to dive in. Na there spirit of lack of contentment come inside me oo. Greediness, even when I saw that corpers had been relocated out of that community due to the fighting’s and restiveness. Me sef they envy.

On the 10th of January 2016, my friend Barry called me that one of the popular politicians in their area would be visiting on the 15th. And they will be sharing money. He said the last time some politicians visited in Egi and Ogba community, each corper collected N10,000. “chaiii see money,” I thought to myself. But this time, it will be happening in Omoku. I just imagined it, “If a corper can collect just N10,000 then, what about now when election is around the corner in Rivers state. Na like N20,000 to N30,000 them go give.” When I told some of my friends in my lodge in Buguma, everyone was interested in following me to Omoku. “Na how many people I wan com carry?” I thought to myself.

On the 15th of January, early in the morning, I took only Patricia with me as we sneaked out of the lodge. At first was skeptical about taking a female with me, but due to her pleas I had to take her along. We were only having the NYSC cap on us. Barry had already told me that he would be waiting for us in Omoku. From Buguma we boarded a car going to Choba. We were not familiar with the routes. From there we come enter road to Ogba. When we got to Ogba, we saw a Keke man that said he was going to Omoku. We asked him how much and he said since we are corpers he won’t charge us, it’s free. Na so we enter come thank the man oooo.

As the Keke was moving, I noticed that it was moving too slow, and the driver was making a call. From the conversation, he was telling the caller that he was on his way to deliver something a package to Omoku and he would be conveying money that they will be going to be giving to the community his boss(the politician coming) will be sharing. “As I overheard that from the keke driver, na so my body begin pop up like pop -corn.” “Obviously my going to Omoku won’t be in vein. I must come back with something,” I thought to myself. After the keke man had finished making call, Patricia was just gentle and wasn’t saying anything. I began asking the Keke man about Omoku and the politician. He began telling us that he was on his way to put some arrangements in place. “Shebi una be corpers,” he asked. We told him “yes” that we are corpers. “No worry, una go chop money tire. They will give una N50,000 for one corper,” he said again. “Is this man really serious or he’s joking,” I thought to myself. But he was still talking and saying that he will even help us to be part of the corpers to participate in the Rivers state election Re-run. And we will make plenty money. I was so happy as I heard all those things. I and Patricia were so engrossed in what the Keke man was saying that we lost concentration on where we were going. Not until the keke stopped in the middle of nowhere. Na so the driver begin complain say the engine has stopped working. And the road was just a lonely road. I was just surprised that no car was going or coming. The keke man began working on the engine. Na so we come down oo. He began talking about dollars he kept at the back of the passenger’s seat. Immediately I heard “Dollars,” my mind just went to “Scam, 419.” Before I knew what was happening, the keke driver went to the back of the seat and brought out a ghana-must-go bag full of Dollar notes. Immediately I saw it, na so my eye big. “Yay,” Patricia shouted. I became confused. My greediness increased that I forgot that I was formally thinking what was going o was a scam. It just looked as if I had been hypnotized. The keke man started complaining that he doesn’t know how to get the money across to them in Omoku. I encouraged him that I will help him so he repair the keke so we could move fast to Omoku to drop the money. The keke driver said he had an idea. That we should take the money to the bush and share it. But he said before we can share the money we have to remove a charm that had been used to protect it, because the money had already been dedicated to idol and we can’t just use it until a pastor prays on it. I told the keke man that he doesn’t need any pastor to pray into it. That I can just do the prayers and every evil thing will go out. Na so the keke man talk say he doesn’t trust us. And that our prayers were not powerful. I thought I was the only one that was greedy, Patricia too greedy. She was even telling the Keke man if we can find a man of God around that will pray into the money. Before we knew what was happening a car drove to where we were packed. The car stopped and two men in suit came out of the car. One was carrying a Bible in his hand. As they were coming towards our direction, the keke driver immediately locked the Ghana must go bag so they will not know the content. The two men started asking what was happening. As the keke man was trying to carry the money back into the keke, one of the men asked him what the content of the bag was. The keke man told him it was clothes.

“Let me see them,” the man said. The keke driver refused. They began arguing and the man said he will call the police and tell them that we are arm robbers. Later on the keke driver showed them the contents. Na so them open mouth come shout. “Where did you people get this money?” one of the men asked. He brought out his phone that he was going to call the police. Na so the keke driver begin beg oo. I and Patricia began begging that we were just corpers oo.

The keke driver began telling them that he needed pastor that will pray for the money so the charm in it will disappear. That we all will share the money equally if the charm is nullified. The men said they were pastors that they can do it. Na so the keke man say make them pray into the money. The men said they will not do it there.

They said they will take the money to their church which is not far from the place. At that time, I didn’t know what came over me. I became scared and tired of the journey and adventure. I told the men and the keke driver that I and patricia are no longer interested, that we are going back. Patricia sef refused, she said she would follow the men. The men refused. They said I must follow them since I was part of the keke driver. I was so afraid. I finally followed them. The keke man left his keke. Patricia was not afraid at all.

The way she spoke and interacted with the men seems as if they had known themselves for a long time. I began feeling uneasy. It was all dawned on me that it was 419. Patricia was seating close to me at the back seat of the car. I was trying to whisper and call her attention about the scam but she was far from her normal sef. I guessed the charm was working heavily on her.

The more I try to whisper into her ears, she would shout at me. We were taking to one bush part that only GOD knows were. They took us to a house inside a bush. I told them I was no longer interested, but they still refused. As we came out of the car, I dragged Patricia so we leave. She was proving so stubborn.

Immediately I remembered something. I had once heard something that when one of my cousin was hypnotized by a 419ner, it was his friend that gave him a dirty slap. The slapped made him regain himself from the charm they used on him before he could sell all his properties. Immediately I remembered that, I felt it will work. I loaded Patricia a hot slap on his right cheek. But nothing happened. Infact, the men began quarrelling for me why I slapped her. Patricia slapped me back sef. It was glaring that the slap didn’t work. I tried to see if I can just grab her so I could take her out of that place. She no come gree. She was shouting and hitting me. I began suspecting all of them were working together. The two pastors asked me to leave her or else they will kill me. Na so I come run commot for that place.

They began chasing me. I ran so fast. I thought I would see traces of human being but I didn’t. I was getting tired and weak. As I turned back, it seemed they were no longer chasing me. I got to a place and saw a guy wearing an NYSC uniform and another wearing a police uniform walking towards me. I was just running towards them. I was so happy that I and Patricia will be safe since it was a police. When they saw me running towards their direction, they moved faster to where I was. The police man began asking me what was going. I told him. The corper asked me to calm down. Felt safe that I was in the hand of a security and a corper. The police man brought out his phone and began making calls. I laid on the ground because I was tired. After the call, the police man told me to stand up. He said I shouldn’t worry that his team was coming and they will rescue Patricia. Before I knew what was happening, a Jeep rode to the place. And it was the keke driver, the pastors and an old man that was inside the car. Patricia was not with them. Before I knew what was happening, the police man gave me a dirty slap on my left cheek and asked me to jump into the jeep. I began begging him.

The corper, the policeman and keke driver dragged me into the jeep. It was now dawned on me that all of them were working together. Another car rode into the place carrying patricia and some other men and a woman inside it. Patricia was crying. Na so them carry us commot for that place. I was pleading for them to let me go. One of the men inside the my car slapped me and that I shut up. The police man hit me on my waist. They took us to another thick bushy place. I was just praying in my mind. I thought it was the end as I prayed for God to forgive my sins and accept my soul in his bosom. Inside the bush they took us to, there was a hut there were we met about 6 people naked and tied to a tree. One of the people tied to the tree, blood was gushing out his eyes. They asked us to remove our clothes. Patricia was crying. On my mind, I was regretting embarking on the journey.

The worst part of it was that our phones, bags and wallets had been collected from us. So no communication to the outside world. The police man brought out two guns and said that if we don’t remove our clothes, he will kill us. Immediately one of them received a call, after the call, he told others that they should take us out of the place that he had been asked to bring us somewhere. I was already removing my clothes when he told me to wear them back. They pushed us back into the car and drove off. I began feeling feverish. I come begin vomit. Na so the police begin slap me as he opened the car and brought me out. I was just throwing up. I felt weak.

Others came out of the car because it seemed it was taking time. Suddenly we heard, “What is that? What’s going on there?” As the policeman wanted to rush back to his car to get his gun. An army man came out of the bush with a gun and asked that no one should move or he will deal with us. It seemed the Army man went to poo because his trouser was not properly zipped and was below waist. One of the men said that I was ill and they were taking us somewhere. Patricia began shouting and said it was a lie that they were kidnappers.

I struggled to say it was true. The men began saying it was a lie. Immediately the Army man said all of us should raise our hands up. He blew a whistle. Before we knew what was happening, about 5 Army guys arrived. They requested for our ID cards. I told them that the 419ners collected it from us. My ID card was inside my wallet that they collected. They told the three of us wearing NYSC uniform to move to come closer. The soldiers asked that our ID card be given to us. Na so them give us our phones and ID cards. But the other guy wearing corpers uniform was not able to provide a valid ID card. It was dawned on them that it was all planned and the guy was a fake corper including the Police man.

They began begging that they would settle the soldiers so they could let them go. Na so the soldiers used their guns to begin to hit. They beat the fake corper and police men so hard. I and Patricia was taking out of the place. I came to realize that we were taken to Ahoada East local Government In that Rivers state. The kidnappers, 419ners were arrested. Another Army car came and took us back to Buguma. That was how we escaped from being used for rituals.

Akkord4gov:
This is one of the numerous reasons I can't support NYSC to be scrap. If it is used in a positive way,it is good and corpers can even bring the real change we need in our society.

God will reward all corpers that tried/are trying to impact not only knowledge but also value and manner to the students

I don't know what devil will do to those that sleep around with their students oooo

Awareness is one of the greatest and strongest gift to the less knowledgeable. Young people are falling preys to sexual atrocities, and we have decided to take actions.

NYSC / Corper Marks His Valentine With His Students In Oproama (Photos) by onismate: 5:52am On Feb 12, 2016
“When the purpose of a thing is not known, abuse is inevitable.” Surely the statement is truth. This was like the question asked to a JSS 2 female student of Comprehensive secondary school, Oproama. She was who she will show love to on valentine’s day. She pointed to an SS 3 male student. “So how will you show love to him,” she was asked. She said both of them will go swimming together, bath together. A massive laughter sprung up after she said that. Nobody expected her to say “they will bath together.” But that was how her knowledge could carry about valentine. She is one of the few gullible young people who barely know what valentine entails and how it should be properly celebrated.

February 14 every year is always associated with Valentine. It’s a time where friends, families, loved ones share gifts amongst themselves. Agape love is displayed. But it’s unfortunate that the purpose of it has been abused nowadays. Today valentine celebration has always been disastrous for gullible young people, most especially ladies. The sexual acts engaged that day is on a high rate. After a one day valentine sexual act on February 14th, the result most times comes in November.

With the kind of atrocities going on among young people these days, it prompted the administration of comprehensive secondary school (CSS), Oproama in Rivers state with corp members to embark on valentine awareness campaign seminar. The staff, corp members and the students of CSS Oproama were all involved in the seminar. The occasion took place on 12th February, 2016.

The event created an avenue for corp members to enlighten the students on valentine, the celebrations and how not to fall prey, thereby engaging in sexual act that will destroy their future.

They were also questions and answer from students, corp members and staff. And we believe that the partnership of CSS, Oproama administration, staff and corp members posted to the school, we have been able to impact on the students and valentine, how to show love the right way to avoid nemesis on the young students. In all, it was a fun filled event with “a touch of red” as dress code.

As a corp member, I think this is the best valentine we can celebrate with our students. We have been able to enlighten them, and i believed they have learned so many things. Here are couple of photos from the events...

Travel / My Unexpected Hilarious Journey To NYSC Orientation Camp From Sagamu by onismate: 4:17am On Feb 10, 2016
October 28th 2015 was a hilarious day I would never forget in a hurry. After I had printed out my NYSC call-up letter the previous day. I saw that I had been posted to Cross River state. I made inquiries on how to get to Obubra, cross river orientation camp. After much inquiry, I got my information about the place and getting there.

On October 28th, I woke up as early enough, took my bath, did my final arrangements on the bag I was travelling with, ready to zoom off to Obubra in cross river state from my Abeokuta base. I was excited that i was going to NYSC camp.

Na so I board car from Abeokuta to Sagamu. I was to take a bus from Sagamu to Port Harcourt. From there, I would get a car going to Cross river. We spent 30 minutes before the car finished loading. Na so we enter the car finish. The man sitting behind me told the driver not to waste too much time. That we had spent much time loading. So make he speed the car well well. I just kept quiet. Na my journey to NYSC orientation camp na im dey my mind. Barely 10 minutes the car took off from sagamu, a small drama occurred in the car. “Heeeeeeeh! Driver, na so this car go drive reach Port Harcourt today?” the man behind me screamed. The other two beside him started shouting that the driver was driving slow, he should increase the speed. The driver simply ignored them and was moving je-jely on his own. I began wondering why they were complaining, for Christ sake the journey just started. But the men, I call them “the three Judas.” Dem no wan hear. They were just complaining that the car was moving too slow. Other passengers began to tell the three Judas to calm down, that the journey just began.

Na so dat one pass, another peace enveloped the car. Though the car was moving at a moderately appreciative speed, but I was comfortable with it, likewise other passengers except for the three Judas.

We got to Ore, the three Judas began murmuring again, that when are we going to get to Portharcort if the driver was moving as slowly as a snail. As one of the Judas said the driver was moving the car like a snail, some of us in the car busted into laughter. Before we knew what was happening, na so the 3 Judas begin para ooo. One of them was hitting his hand on the chair. I kept all of them quiet. As the drama was still going on, the driver never said anything. When I peeped to see the speed the driver was using, it was 100. And I began wondering, with 100, what else does these Judas want! For the car to start flying or what! Or for the car to disappear.

When we got to Benin, we got down to ease ourselves and eat. After eating, we entered the car and the driver started the car, but we discovered the three Judas were not inside the bus. Na so we begin look for them. The driver was very angry when we couldn’t find them. And they were not travelling with any load. The driver told the rest of us to enter that he was leaving. We concluded that maybe the 3 Judas had followed another car since they have been complaining that our car was slow. As the car was about moving, na so the 3 Judas came from only God knows were. They began shouting at the driver. That was he trying to leave them. But we waited for over 45 minutes and even looking for them. “Where una go nah,” one of the woman asked one of the Judas. “madam abeg no ask me stupid question,” the Judas said. He began abusing the woman. Trust women nah. The woman fired back. Na so other passengers join the woman to they abuse the Judas. Now come ask me, were were they coming from. We had been waiting for them. Infact the driver was even nice enough to wait. If it were to be other drivers, them go just abandom them and go their way.

After about 10 minutes of abusing and arguments. The three Judas realy abused the driver that he was too slow in driving. At a time I pitied him. The driver finally opened the car for the three Judas to enter. The car moved and another drama begun with the three Judas cursing out the driver to increase the speed of the car. The driver said he wasn’t going to increase any speed, the one he was currently using was okay. Come see the three Judas oooo. Dem no gree. The atmosphere in the car had turned upside down. People supporting the driver, lashing out the three Judas. Me sef, I come tire. I have never been in this kind of journey before. No rest of mind. I was just praying in my mind that the car shouldn’t have an accident. The three Judas have finally turned to 3 demons. They are now demons tormenting us inside the bus. “Na were these 3 devils come inside this car?” one of the women said. Indeed, they are devils because the whole atmosphere in the car was not comfortable. The driver of the car had to stop at a nearby Petrol filling station. He took his car keys and went into the shop at the filling station. The driver no gree come out again. “Abeg which kind journey be this one?” I thought to myself. We opened the car and went to the shop the driver entered. We met the shock of our lives there. The driver was sleeping untop of a long bench inside the shop. Chaiiii, see gobe. So this man just abandoned us and came there to sleep. It seemed to me that the devil indeed has descended on us. We fell into his trap. Na so we begin call the driver ooo. He said he was no longer going any more. The three Judas don frustrate him life. Ahhh, wetin this man want make we do now. We began demanding for our money back. One of the judas began making calls. I overheard him telling the person that the driver of the car he was in is a kidnapper and has gone mad. That the driver brought them to unknown were they would kill them. Kaiii, you see the kind lie wey this Judas dey lie. Before I knew what was happening, the other two Judas began threatening the driver. Driver talk say him no go go again unless the the three Judas left his car and he was ready to give them part of their money. The three Judas no gree.

The police later came to settle the case. The 3 Judas were given part of their money and were placed in another car that was going to Port harcourt. According to one of my fellow passenger, the car the three Judas were asked to later enter drives at a speed of 120. So make them enter dey go. The driver later entered the car and we left. He apologized to us. We actually knew it wasn’t his fault. The three Judas wanted a car that runs so fast, which might even take them to their grave. So he(driver) wasn’t ready to do that.

When we got to Agbo in Delta state, the diversion to Portharcourt road. We saw the three Judas and their car which we suspected developed fault. Immediately they saw us, they were waving at the driver to stop. For where, driver no stop. Every one in the car were laughing. Driver talk say him no want get hipper tension. We got to Port harcourt safely. From there, I saw other prospective corpers going to Obubra. Na there I follow them come reach orientation camp.

Jobs/Vacancies / How Lil Kesh's Song, "Efejoku" Made Me Lose A Job Offer by onismate: 4:31am On Feb 03, 2016
I had seen couple of people come up online to complain about unemployment. I took it so easily not until I graduated and finished my NYSC that I began feeling the heat of unemployment and job hunting fire. Being a serious unemployed in Nigeria Is frustrating and intimidating.

My first ever job I applied for my NYSC, after the application, with even my 2.1 grade I wasn’t even invited for any form of test or interview. Na so I begin apply oo and yet nothing positive showed forth. One that pained me was the one I and 4 of my friends applied for. 4 of my friends were called and I was left behind. That one pain me sote I began crying. I felt intimidated, that I wasn’t good enough. I felt dejected and down casted. I felt I wasn’t up to my peers standard. All that made me strong.

Late 2015, November precisely I applied for a job in Abuja in an Auditing firm. A friend of mine sent me the link to apply. After applying, I was waiting for a feedback till the end of December. Yet no call or email, or even flash came from them. Na so I just forget about them, filling 2015 has gone with it.

On the 5th of January 2016 I visited my friend of mine in wuse. When I got there he was having a mini indoor party with his wife to be. They were playing “Efejoku” by Lil kesh. They were feeling the song. Immediately my phone rang. I checked the number calling and it wasn’t a number saved on my phone. I went to a corner that I could be able to speak audibly with the caller. I picked the call and it was a female voice. She said her name was Mabel and she was calling from the auditing firm I applied for the past year. Immediately I heard that, I immediately composed myself. But I was shocked the questions she started asking me. At first I thought it was a joke or complement but later, no be complement oo. Below was how our conversation went.

Mabel---- Good afternoon. My name is mabel, I believe am speaking with ********?

Me – Good afternoon .Yes you are.

Mabel---- Am from ******* Auditing firm. You applied for one of our vacant posts

Me ------- Yes I did.

Na here the call come turn another thing.

Mabel ------ Ehmm, what kind of song is that ?

Me---- Song! Which song?

Mabel—The song at the background. Or are you not the one playing that song

Then I realized she was talking about the song “efejoku” playing at my own end. I never knew she was hearing it because I was not close to the parlour where the song is being played. I was quit far from the speakers. I told her it’s my friend’s place.

Mabel ---- Why do you people like all these kind of wordly songs?

Me no know wetin to answer her. I thought she was calling to tell me that I have made it and their company had recruited me. I no come know the one wey she dey talk about song.

Me------ *silence**

Mabel---- It seems this is the kind of song you like too, you and your friends?

Me ---- Not at all ma, I …..

She cuts in

Mabel --- Our company wants responsible and sound people. Not mad men.

Me--- (I didn’t know what to tell her) Am in my friends place.

Mabel --- Your friend’s place? You guys stay in a ghetto area because we don’t want employees to bring thugs and ghetto into our company.

Me--- No ma aaa oooo. Am not in a ghetto.

Before I could finish she has cut the call. I was very pained and angry. My friend asked me to go to their office in Wuse the next day.

The next day I went to their office. I met with one of the staffs who asked me to wait for one Mr. James na so I begin wait till the Mr. James came. I explained what happened the previous day to him. He laughed and asked me to come back the next day. When I came back the next day, the Mr james directed me to one Mrs Dammy. I guessed she was the one that called the other day. But it was unfortunate that the Mrs Dammy was not around. I was asked to wait. Na so I wait reach 4pm, work close. I came back the next day, security no come allow me enter. Few days ago I got a text from an unknown number which I believe it’s from the firm. The text read. “Sorry we can’t employ you. We don’t employ thugs in ******* firm.” The thing pain me again. That was how I lost this job.
