“Welcome to Lagos” slogan seen at the entrance of Lagos state doesn’t mean you are welcome to Lagos city. That was exactly what I was told after what happened to me 15/10/2016. Indeed as a first timer in the city, if one is not smart, they would be dealt with, defrauded, scammed by dubious people. But in my own case, I didn’t know if to say I was careless or just dull. This is not my first time of coming to Lagos. I had made up my mind to leave in the city. I preferred Abuja or Port Harcourt. I just want to come to Lagos for business, visit and leave. That was my dream as at 5, 4 years ago. I didn’t enjoy the Lagos kind of life. The hustles, bustles, go-slows and rowdy areas. I wanted a cool environmental life in Abuja. But as life would have it, most jobs calling my way are from Lagos so I had to take a decision and move to Lagos, which I did. On the 15th October 2016, I had packed my bags, I was ready to finally relocate myself to Lagos. With my bags like a sky diver, a missionary worker ready to take over a village. I moved. “Welcome to Lagos” was what I saw in a big banner. I stopped in Ojota, with my bag containing my laptop and some other stuffs behind my back, and my big travelling bag I held with my hand. “Lagos here I come.” I had my earpiece on my ears with my infinix phone in my trouser pocket. I was blasting music. In the streets of Lagos, you might not get correct answers to your questions because people can will barely answer you. You dare not trust just anyone. As I landed in Ojota, I was contemplating if I could get a cab going to Iyana paja directly from there. As I asked one of the passersby, she didn’t even respond to me. Maybe she think say I be 419. But thanks to one of the guys standing there. He said I should enter a cab going to oshodi, from there I will get a cab going to Iyana paja. Na so I enter oshodi car. I and some other guys dropped at the market. A very rowdy, crowded and busy area with pedestrian bridge. I had my phone on my hand, my earpiece plugged to it. I placed the phone inside my trouser pocket as I climbed the bridge towards the other side where I was hearing “Iyana paja, egbeda.” I was forming Jagaban as I carried my big bag on my hand as I climbed the bridge like “Jonny just come Lagos.” It was so crowded. Many people going, others coming. It was just like a movie to me. As I was walking towards the other direction to board cab going to Iyana paja. My earpiece connected to my phone dropped out of my pocket. I looked at the pocket where my phone was, it was empty. I touched it to know if it wasn’t what I was thinking. My dear, it was it oooo. My phone had gone. ‘who stole my phone?’ and the place was crowded. “Who will I ask?” “How will I ask?” So it won’t look as if am accusing passersby. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Kaiiiii, I have been pick pocketed. Now all those weird stories I have been hearing concerning pickpockets. All those this are all true. Rather than trying to embarrass myself, I pretended as if nothing happened I entered cab going to Iyana paja. I was so weak. I brought out my wallet from my other pocket and held it with my hand. I checked to confirm if my laptop was inside the school bag I was hanging across my shoulders. It was there. I was just bitter that I have been duped in Lagos. I was so sad and angry. When I got to Iyana paja, as I was trying to bring out my travelling bag, that was when I discovered that my bag has been cut open. “Chineke.” I was so frustrated that I had to carry the bag on my head like an old woman that went to Cotonou to buy oranges for her kids. I was so devastated. Dem don do me “welcome to Lagos.” I dey complain say economic hard times dey hold me to ransom. The little money I have will now be to buy a new phone! And the phone that was stolen, my both lines are my hot numbers. My family, friends, clients and business partners will be trying to reach me. I got to Ikotun where I would stay at about 6:15pm. I was rendered phoneless. I dropped my bag and went to ATM to withdraw. I just wanted to get a small touchlight phone and retrieve my sim so to get intouch with family and friends to tell them I arrived safely even when I have been scammed. I got a small Tecno phone of N4,500 at a shop nearby. I asked the man if he retrieves lost or stolen sim/numbers because there are so many mini sim and phone shops in that place. He said he doesn’t but I can do it from any of the people I was seeing. He asked me the network I want to welcome back. I told him Glo and Airtel. He warned me never to do any welcome back for Glo with those people because they will just eat my N500. He said I should wait, exercise patience till Monday and go to the Glo mini office close by to do it. For Airtel, he said I should try it with those guys that it might work. Na so I say ‘Okay, thank you,’ and come leave the shop. As I was leaving the place, a young lady ran to me. She said she learnt I wanted to retrieve my lost lines, that she can do it for me. I said “yes” that I wanted to retrieve both my Glo and Airtel lines. She said she could do all of them and they will start working instantly. Each of them is N500. So I will spend N1000 for the two networks. She said it was the phone seller that directed her to me so she could help me. But I remembered it was the same phone seller that told me never to trust any of them there. Na so I tell the girl say na only Airtel I go do, say Glo, dem don direct me go there office. So I wanted to do Airtel alone because I wasn’t convinced about the Glo. But I didn’t have my Airtel number of heart. She took me to her colleague. I wanted to use his phone to call one of my sister so she could text me my Airtel number. But the colleague no gree. Na so I waka leave there go dey think of my life. The next day afternoon which was a Sunday, I went back to the place where I bought my phone because it was a busy area and market. Everyday na market for there. I saw one of the guys selling sim cards of various network. I asked if he does Airtel sim number retrieval, he said he does it and it will work instantly. He said it’s N500. Na so I carry N500 give him. He took down my name and some other details and my old Airtel number. He gave me the new Sim and said my old line will be active at night. “I thought you said it would start working instantly?” I asked. Na so the guy change mouth. Infact the guy sef no even snap me any photo, he didn’t capture any of my image or requested for I.D card. Some other guys there said that is how it’s being done there. I was surprised since I am still new in Lagos. Na so I leave dey expect say my old line will be active. Night came and it was the next day, my old line was not still active. Even the new Airtel line, I was sent a message to go register it. I went back to the place I bought the Airtel sim, lo and behold I could find the guys that sold the Sim to me. Na new set of people I see for there. My money, N500 don go be that. I fell for the maga. I have been maga-ed. One of the guys selling Sim there was truthful to me. He said I should go to Airtel office to retrieve my line and Glo shop nearby. He said none of them there can retrieve any line there though I can register but can’t retrieve line there. Well my eyes don open. I had to go to Glo store nearby to retrieve my Glo line. Infact it took 2 weeks for the line to become active after much stress. Chaiii, I have never seen such a thing like that. It seem everything in Lagos is just stressful. Any one I narrated this issue to will tell me, “welcome to Lagos.” My sister said the sign post I saw “Welcome to Lagos,” when I was entering the city doesn’t mean I was welcome to the city. You just have to be rugged and smart in this city. http://hovabuzz.com/frontline/1277-welcome-to-lagos-my-experience-with-pickpocketing-in-lagos |

Some Incidents That May Take Place if MMM Nigeria Don’t Unfreezes Participants Accounts in January It has not been an easy period this past few days for MMM Nigerian participants after it was MMM froze the accounts of their participants preventing any from Getting help (GH) till mid-January 2017. Baba make I no lie you, so many people whey get money for the system they fast and pray. Many are hopeful that the system and authorizes/admins of MMM would surely unfreeze the accounts, thereby making MMM stronger and better. But what of it never comes back, “God forbid!” like someone reading this will say. No one prays for an evil and am not praying for that for people who have their money in the Ponzi scheme. But come to think of it, imagine what would happen if the system didn’t unfreeze the accounts thereby being a permanent crash of the total system in Nigeria, what will happen? Note: I am not a prophet nor do I wish people bad but considering the situation of our country Nigeria now. Considering how Nigerians are, our personality and the way we think and do our things. Here are few things that may happen if MMM Nigeria didn’t come back by January 2017. Super Guilder Chuddy Ugorji Anayo would be under attack – Mehn trust Nigerians. There has been speculations that Chuddy Ugorji is behind the MMM Nigeria and he is behind the present crash of the scheme because he withdrew a large chunk of amount. With the speculation, if the MMM Nigeria Ponzi scheme never come back that means people would believe the speculations and Chuddy Ugorji’s life and family would be in danger. People wey dia money don go go find the guy. Them want collect dia money. Infact if people see the guy for street dem go stone him. Participants would come for other Guilders- Guilders who had made too money from the system won’t have to leave a lavish life because people who had lost their money, their eyes would be on guilders because they would feel they are the ones that stole their money. Guilders would face series of attack, verbally and probably physical. Some MMM participants still feels that guilders are in charge of their money. Dem never understand how MMM dey work. They only keep their money and let the guilder that introduced them complete the rest work for them. Some Kids/people will drop out of school – This one is certain that many kids would will stay at home courtesy of their parents carelessness of investing their school fees on MMM. Even students, undergraduate that their school fees has been given to them, they rather put the money on MMM. Imagine were dem go get school fees to pay. High Blood Pressure – Many people blood pressure go increase. ****I see heart attack **** some who had dropped their life savings in the scheme would definitely hear it hot. Some people will not pay house rent- Some people who had already put their house rent in MMM, the landlord had already started calling. But dem go tell landlord to wait till January. When January go come and you no go see money collect. You better prepare a better excuse to the landlord. Marriages would be shaken – As at this moment my neighbor Mr Gbadebo’s marriage is threatened because the wife took N865,000 he gave to her for their building project and put it in MMM. The couples re not talking to each other now. So when MMM refused to come back from vacation! What will now happen to them? Many marriages will be threatened by this MMM crash because of family money put in the Ponzi scheme. Organizations would sack some of their staffs –For this kind recession were many they find job n aim organization dey sack. Some people go hear am. I learnt some accountants took some part of their organization’s money to do MMM. And the organization has started threatening as they discovered. That one na sack nah. I hope there is no death – I just hope if MMM doesn’t come back from vacation no one would commit suicide or kill any one for it. http://hovabuzz.com/frontline/1268-some-incidents-that-may-take-place-if-mmm-nigeria-don-t-unfreezes-participants-accounts-in-january |

For the past couple of days, on air personality, Toke makinwa has been trending online with her book, “On Becoming.” The book is about her upbringing, growing up, past relationship and failed marriage to fitness trainer Maje Ayida. But Toke’s book focused more on her failed relationship with Maje Ayida. So many believed that the book “On Becoming,” is too revealing. They were so many secrets and dirty acts committed against her by her estranged husband, Maje. But Toke has come out to say she didn’t publish the contents to spite on Maje. She only did it to free her mind off the burdens and advise her fellow women on issues of relationship, emotional abuse and self-esteem/worth. With the publish of the book, “On Becoming” by Toke, many, most especially have been blasting Maje Ayida with harsh words. Even the other woman Maje left Toke for, she was not left out as people insulted her. Maje’s image has been tarnished. Imagine an ex openly and publicly saying that you infected her with STDs. Hmmmmm. Toke said Maje infected her with STD. I sat down to imagine if it was Maje Ayida that published that Book, “On Becoming,” and said all those revealing things about Toke. What would have happened? Here are 6 (six) things I feel would happen if it was Maje that published those revealing content. 1. Image tarnishing – If it was Maje Ayida that published those contents about Toke, it would have Tarnished Toke’s image. Don’t get me wrong. Am not saying Maje’s image is not tarnished as toke published it. But Imagine that Maje reveal that Toke infected her with STD (Sexually transmitted disease). Her image would have been damaged. The shame, humiliation, loss of self-pride. 2. Loss of endorsement, jobs – All the hair, cream, beauty companies that endorsed and ready to work with her will pull out. Imagine your husband publicly accusing you of infidelity. Many companies and organizations won’t like to work that kind of personality. Make she no go tempt married workers. 3. Responsible men/suitors won’t want to Associate with Her- Responsible men who would be willing to love and marry her, potential suitors would run from her. Who wants to be infected with STD or HIV? Who wants to be with an unfaithful woman or serial men lover? 4. Some women NGOs with call for Maje’s Head- Many NGOs most especially women related would call for maje’s head for publicly embarrassing a woman. Some might even sue him. some threaten to arrest him because he couldn’t cover her ex-wife’s shame. NGOs would make sure they disgrace Maje. 5. Women will curse Maje, call for his head- Trust Nigerian women nah. They would finish Maje with their mouths. Maje Ayida would keep on trending online with insults and embarrassment for embarrassing Toke. Don’t be surprised that many women will debate the topics online, TVs and radios. Many will threaten to arrest Maje Ayida. 6. Some women would falsely and publicly accuse Maje of infidelity too just to humiliate him as he did to Toke. http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/1256-6-things-that-would-have-happened-if-maje-ayida-was-the-one-that-published-the-book-on-becoming |

“Can this kind of thing happen in Nigeria?” “For where! Impossible,” so many would reply. But yet it’s happening in developed countries like America which we are borrowing their type of democratic system. U.S President-elect Donald Trump is gradually putting together his cabinet, waiting for January 20th 2017 to be officially sworn in as President. Few days ago, Donald Trump picked South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley to be the US ambassador to the United Nations. Haley, who is the daughter of Indian immigrants and South Carolina’s first female and first minority governor. Governor Haley has accepted the offer. She would be reigning as a Governor to officially take up the position. Then come down to Nigeria. Can this type of thing happen in Nigeria? Imagine Osun Governor resigning from his post were he has over two years remaining to be Buhari’s minister or Nigeria’s Ambassador to United nations. Or You tell Governor Wike of Rivers state to resign to be one of Buhari’s Ambassadors. That will not happen. Maybe in the future but not Nigeria of today. There is so much wealth in Nigerian politics. Too much power and money attached to it. Nigerian Governor cannot resign to be an ambassador to the president, except he finishes his tenure. They will rather tell the President to wait first till they finish their tenure. When they think of the people they control, the power, money, pride and respect, they won’t resign. Or maybe am wrong that it’s not possible for a Nigerian Governor to resign to become an ambassador. Or maybe am right sef. http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/1245-can-this-type-of-thing-happen-in-nigeria-governor-resigns-to-be-an-ambassador can it happen in Naija?

You can’t have everything in life, but you can have some you desire. In life, there are steps and stages to greatness. And NYSC is a phase in some people’s life just like me. Not everyone who just finished service got a job immediately, and not all of them would have a good story to tell. At first, I saw NYSC as just a scam, but it wasn’t. It’s a reality that shapes the future, for those who are willing. An experience I will ever live to remember. Mid-September 2016, I was on my way to Port Harcourt from my Place of assignment for pressing matters. I was fortunate enough. I met a man who gave me a ride. He said he came to do some few things and he was on his way back to Port Harcourt. He took me in his Toyota Avalon car, and we started talking. He asked me my name, where I was serving and what I studied in school. I told him. He only told me his name as we talked. We talked about so many things from politics, sports and the current unemployment rate in Nigeria. I got to the direction I was heading to. His car stopped and I came down. He said there was a job opening in one of the firms in Port Harcourt so if I was interested I should come in the next two weeks with my CV to the place. He gave me the address and he left. It was an oil and gas company in Trans Amadi. Two weeks later, I got my CV ready which I had earlier printed. I was excited because it was just a few days to my passing out of NYSC. I was feeling fly because I was going to get a job just immediately after my service. I got to the company in Trans Amadi. It was really a nice place to work. As I saw the environment, so many thoughts began running through my mind. “How I am going to work there.” I want to eat the oil money. I was in deep thoughts when one of the staffs asked if I was part of the interview, because he saw me standing and looking around. I told him “Yes,” I was part of the interview. He said I should go and join the others at the waiting room. I got to the waiting room and met about 7 candidates for the interview. I had thought I was the only one for the interview. But I was wrong. I was even told by another candidate that I was fortunate because others had submitted the CV some weeks back. All candidates for the interview were seated when one of the staff came and addressed us on working for the company. He doesn’t even need to explain. With what I saw, working in that company is best to none. But he said something that struck some of us. He said before the company picks the best candidates, applicants will sure pass through logical test. I began wondering the kind of logical test he means. After addressing us, he collected my CV, because I they were yet to have my CV. An hour later, one of the staff came and told us that the interview had begun and we would be going one after the other. The staff asked me to go first. I was so scared. “That would be my first ever interview. I had never gone for any interview in my life.” I told him they should allow another person to go first instead of me. The staff smiled, “you are scared?” he asked. He called another person and he refused going. Other candidates were refusing to go first. So who go come go! it just looked as if we were not ready for the interview. no one wants to go first. We just want to stay back so the first person that goes, comes back and gist us how it went. One of us who is a lady summoned the courage and said she would go. She followed the staff and they entered the interview room. And we began waiting for her to come out for the next person to go in. 30 minutes gone and she’s not yet out. An hour later, the lady came out with a man from the room, with smile on her face. The man directed her to go to another office. The man said the interview was over, and that they have gotten the person they wanted which is the lady. So the rest of us can go home. All of us (candidates) began wondering what was going on. “So they wanted to choose just one person and they invited us?” “What kind of company is this?” “why will they pick the first person when they have not tried the others?” So many thoughts running through my head. We were asked to leave the premises. I was so disappointed. As I was leaving, the security called me that someone wants to see me. I followed him. And it was the man the man that carried me in his car, who invited me for the interview. He said he doesn’t need to ask me how the interview went because he saw everything. “In life, to succeed; rule number one, don’t be number two,” he said. I was trying to understand that statement when he said there was camera at the waiting room we were. He said he saw us candidates rejecting to go first for the interview. He said that was so wrong. And that even in business when there are competitors, one has to be best, remain the best. “You don’t just be number 2 because you must be the best.” “Even in everything positive, strive to be at the forefront no matter what.” He said I really goofed big time when I was asked to go first. I should have just gone. Even if I failed, they will still hire and train me. After much talk, I left the premises feeling sober for myself. But at least I have learnt my lessons. To succeed in Life; Rule Number one (1), Don’t Be number two (2) http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/1241-to-succeed-in-life-rule-number-one-1-don-t-be-number-two-2 |

Call me greedy, or longer throat. Me I no send. Am so confident and believes he would win even when am not an American. Am at the verge of winning N70,000 of my friends on a bet we made on American presidential election. I have already seen the signs since January that Donald Trump will win the election. Few of my friends are rooting for Clinton. They hate Donald Trump. But if I ask them why they don’t like him. They won’t just give a reasonable answer. Many of the people that don’t like Trump, they can’t just give any reasonable answer why they hate him, why they don’t want him in white house. But am sorry, he’s winning. Yes he’s blunt and speaks the mind of most Americans. The way I was rooting for him. na so my guys dey follow Clinton. It started like a joke, but turning serious. We placed N10,000 each. The 7 of my friends said Clinton will win while am going for Trump. So if Trump wins, I will be N70,000 richer but is it’s Clinton, I will lose my N10,000 to my friends. #Nov8American Election http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/1233-2016-american-presidential-polls-am-about-to-win-n70-000-on-a-bet-on-trump-s-victory

Nigeria has really evolved, and 2016 has brought us so many news. Bad, good, weird, naughty and so on. So many has used the internet to climb to fame both of negative and positive light. The internet has killed so many careers, shattered hopes and dreams, like former Miss Anambra, chidimma Okeke. While internet has changed so many lives positively. People like Olajumoke Orisaguna climbed to fame through it. For you to become an internet sensation an unimaginable way, either negative or positive, here are 6 steps you need. 1. Put up your nude photo online- It seem nude content sells so much nowadays. Imagine waking up from sleep, strip yourself naked, snap and record video and upload on Facebook or any online platform. That will trend for days. Wait make Linda ikeji carry am. You are sure an internet sensation most especially if you are a female. 2. Become like Bobrisky or change your style - The guy bobrisky is the one of the hottest internet sensation presently. Maybe because of being first cross dresser in Africa. Though not the first in bleaching and cosmetics. So to be an internet sensation, its either you bleach your skin, become a cross dresser. Or you can equally change your own style to catch your own audience. I bet Linda ikeji will follow you. Nairaland will keep bringing your post on frontpage. 3. EFCC - Did you collect money from Dasuki? Omo forget that. You are already a sensation both online and offline because, dem go find you come. The whole media will put you on their Frontpages. Are you corrupt? And you are yet to be popular. Just wait. Let the EFCC or DSS visits you. Nairaland commenters are waiting to tear you apart. 4. Pre-Wedding photos - Are you preparing for your wedding and you are not getting much buzz. Well, maybe you didn’t launch any pre-wedding photos or the one you have is boring or not appealing enough. If you want to win in this department, let the whole internet be agog with your pre-wedding photos. What to do! Imagine doing any weird or unimaginable thing for the pre-wedding photo. As a corper I never knew how difficult life is not until I passed out of service. Coupled with the fact that I passed this year April. The period Nigerian economy is shrinking. Workers are being retrenched rather than being hired. Everything come tire me sef. Hiring managers are just using me to play Ludo. I had been thinking of relocating out of the Asaba city to some big cities that will boast my chances of landing a mouthwatering job. But am yet to make up my mind on the town to relocate to. On the 11th of August 2016, I was sitting on my home at home when a friend called me that he saw an advert pasted on the wall of a building close to his streets. The advert said they were looking for someone who studied any medical related course for a job. As my friend told me, I wasn’t interested most especially all those adverts on papers pasted on fences, walls. Na so my friend say make I just try and see if I can apply. We talked on phone and he said he would come pick me up to see the advert. He was pretty convinced it was genuine. Na so i begin wait till he came. My friend came with his car and picked me to the place he saw the advert. We got there, it was not too far from where he stays which is Okpanam road, close to Akpu junction in Asaba. The advert was on white paper pasted on a fence surrounding a very beautiful white building. As we were looking closely at the advert, the gate of the compound opened and a young man walked out. The advert clearly stated that the vacancy was in that compound. We (I and my friend) called the guy that walked out of the building and asked he said it was true. That his boss who is the owner of the house was currently and seriously in need of a special assistant. “Assistant keh,” I thought they said someone who is into medical field. Which one be special assistant. “Abi na political affairs,” I thought to myself. The guy saw the look on our faces. He went inside to call another man. I was becoming confused and I sensed “scam.” The man began explaining that he was indeed the son of the house owner who is looking for a special assistant on medical related field. He said they were looking for someone that would assist their dad who is a doctor and the building is his office. So the person would be a special assistant and studied any medical or health related course. He said himself is an engineer. I asked about the salary but he said they can only tell me when I am recruited. “for now they can’t tell me.” I was happy, feeling fly and confident that I was going to get the job. I gave them my CV and they said they will get in touch with me. Na so me and my friend leave. You need to see the way I was jubilating when I got home. As if I had landed a million dollar contract. Considering the fact the white building of the so called hospital was a beauty to behold so I felt the job was mine and the pay would be great. Two weeks later, I got a call from the white building asking me to come for a special interview. I was asked to come with some bunch of coconut leaves and two candles. And I began wondering, why “coconut leaves and candles?” I have never heard that any job applicant for any health related field was asked to get coconut leave or candles. When I told my friend, he said I shouldn’t just have any negative thought or ulterior motive about it. I should just do as was said. Maybe the coconut leaves would be used to prepare liquid concussion. “But how about the candle?” I thought to myself. The interview day came, you need to see the way I was carrying coconut leaves like shepherd going to feed his goats. As I was walking with the eves on my shoulders, n so people just dey look me. The white shirt I was wearing was turning coloured. I had to chatter a taxi with the last N300 I have to take me to the white building. The taxi driver even refused to take me into the street. He said he wasn’t going in, and I began wondering why. He dropped me Akpu junction. He said he couldn’t go farther than that. “Why the man no come tell me.” And I had already given him money. After much dragging with the driver, and the special interview was schedule by 9am. I had to get down from the car just to meet up with the interview. As I passed by the street going to the white building. The way I was dressed in cooperate wear carrying leaves on my shoulders. When I got there, my body had started smelling coconut leaves. The engineer son brought me into their sitting room. That would be the first time I will be coming into the compound. The compound was quite beauty to behold, with moulded sculpture of cat, lion and rat in front of the main entrance. The images look real that I was almost scared. Imagine a pregnant woman with typhoid fever coming into this compound for treatment. Those moulded images can scare that typhoid fever away. Them no born typhoid well. As I got to the sitting room, no one even collected the leaves and candle sticks I was carrying. I finally met the Doctor himself. The owner of the house and the man seeking for a special assistant. He was wearing a white agbada with white shoe, holding a walking stick with the head of a cat. As I looked at the man(owner of the house), he was pretty aged. And I wondered why he was yet to retire from service to go rest. “Shey this man fit see microorganism for micro scope?” I thought to myself. The doctor asked me to sit. I sat. As I looked behind the chair I was seated, I saw scull of human head, and some other creatures. I was tensed. I guess the doctor saw it on my face, he asked me to relax and not to panic. He started asking couple of questions like “if I know how the blood of a snake tasted. If I have seen dead people before.” And how am I supposed to know when am not a weirdo! The questions were weird. I told him I hadn’t done all those things. He stood up and asked me to follow him. Everything was just looking strange to me. I was just scared and not convinced about the whole thing anymore. The Doctor walked but I still stood looking as he walked. His son stood looking at me. He could see the fear in me. “Are you scared? Don’t you want the job?” the son said to me. Doctor turned back and looked at me. “My friend come with me joor. Are you not a man?” The doctor shouted at me. Na so fear enter my body I come follow him. We entered a room. Every were in the room was dark before he (Doctor) switched on the Light and I saw the shock of my life. I plenty calabashes, red cloths on the wall, tortoise crawling around and so many strange things, like the house of a native doctor. As at time, I was so scared. I felt I was going to die. I felt my life will end there with what I was seeing. Like I will be used for ritual. I didn’t know how to tell them I was no longer interested in the job, everything. I even felt my friend was even part of all the game to use me for ritual. I was just praying in my heart that God should just forgive my sins and accept my soul. The Doctor started explaining why he was looking for someone like me. That he wants to move and repackage his traditional herbalist work. Before I knew what was happening, he brought out a knife and asked me to kneel. I immediately told him I wasn’t interested. I was saying it in a fearful tone. “Why,” he shouted. I didn’t just know what came over me, I turned my back and worked out of the room and out of the compound. Immediately I got outside the gate. Na so I begin run leave that environment. I ran towards akpu junction. I saw one keke coming towards my direction. Na so I stop it. I jumped in breathing heavily. With my countenance, he asked me what was going. I narrated what happened. He said I should thank my God I came out of that place alive. When I got home, I called my friend that pressurized me to go for the job. I told him what I experienced. I even started by cursing him out, feeling he was part of the plan. I was so angry. Thank God. What of if I had continued the process with the doctor, maybe I would have turned to native doctor. After my parents had spent huge money on my education, after my years in the university, na native doctor I see to become! That’s impossible. http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/1225-how-unempioyment-led-me-to-mistakenly-got-me-a-job-in-the-house-of-a-native-doctor |

When I look back, turning back the hands of time to mid-October last year when I was called to serve my country as a corp member. I was posted to Rivers state. A place described as oil money. After the compulsory 3 weeks camp, I had received my PPA (place of primary). I was posted to Oproama community in Asari Toru local Government Area of Rivers state. A small island surrounded by water. When I first visited Oproama, I discovered that there is no electricity power, no portable water, mobile telecoms network is so poor. Browsing, online communication is just a no-go area. I was told to forget about browsing for the whole time I will stay. I began wondering if I could serve in this community. But lo and behold, how time flies. Today 06/10/2016, I have fully completed my service to the nation as a corp member. I came, I saw and I conquered. It’s not easy serving in this community for year. It is God’s doing. As I bow out, I want to appreciate everyone God has used to bless my life throughout my stay. A big thanks to the Nigerian military JTF. Even when so kidnapping cases where recorded along Tema junction and other routes in that LGA, sometimes they (JTF soldiers) would find a secured car for us corpers, collect the drivers contact. They make sure we get to our destination safely. The only recorded kidnap case of a corp member in this LG was last year. Shout out to Nigerian military protecting us, and I believe they would do more. I want to appreciate my school (PPA), Principals, teachers, Oproama community, indigenes. Even if I couldn’t mention your name, just know that you have a special place in my heart. I celebrate you all. God bless Oproama God bless NYSC God bless Nigeria. Here are couple of photos as memorial during this service year. http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/1224-diary-photos-my-story-and-experience-as-i-bow-out-of-nysc-today

A CORPER's MESSAGE FOR NIGERIA @ 56 Oh Yes, Nigeria is 56! And the color of the National flag is still Green and White. What are we celebrating at 56? Is it really a happy independence at this point? There is a general saying in the part of the world where I come from which holds that “a fool at forty is more likely to remain a fool forever”. But it’s obvious that we are fools at 56, in which case I don’t know what we would be called, irrespective of your academic cum social status, we are mental imbecilities. Our economy is down, politics over here has gone sour, the only thing that is on the increase is kingdom of God industries alongside social vices; we are being asked to serve with all sense of seriousness and dedication, a country which her leadership has nothing much to give the youth; the wrong choices and decisions we made right from the time a naira was equal a dollar, at elections and coups has all been proven wrong by the fact that a dollar equals some hundreds of naira; the leadership now serve euthanasia pills for developmental policies; the ‘blame game’ is at climax – big thieves lynching small thieves, while small thieves are screaming foul play. A lot on the negative is incessantly unfolding, and no one can or is willing to exactly tell us with some atom of certainty what the future is like for us the youth of this Nation. Please, can we all stop the blame game, can we all bury the hatchet, “Save Nigeria and naira for Nigeria sake: let us all admit the fault and cause of our predicament directly or indirectly, in order to forge ahead we failed our fatherland; so that we can see that it’s high time we wore our thinking and action caps, and redefine our unity of purpose”. #let’s_save_the_naira #let’s_save_our_economy #let’s_save_our_own #encourage_our_local_industries_to_grow #buy_made_in_Nigeria_goods #Nigeria_must_be_great_again #stop_the_blame_game_now! From N19,800 to N5m, SUV and recording contract and fame. Okiemute Ighorodje, 2016 MTN Project fame season 9 winner. Young, smart and intelligent young lady with a gifted voice. From earning just N19,800 NYSC allowance some few months back to becoming famous on Nigerian music scene. Writing her name in the sands of time on MTN space and Nigerian, African and world airspace. I could remember when I first met her late last year. I was posted to the same PPA (school) she was as corp member. So all of us na corpers. With that her energy and vibrant personality, she tried to make us new corpers comfortable. As time went on, I discovered she was a singer. Infact not just ordinary singer, but better singer for that matter ooo! But she was unknown, struggling to make her mark and find her way to the top. With that her swaggalicious NYSC kaki, matching it with that her designer black canvas like a tom boy. She would entertain us with her funny jokes. Trust urhobo girls na. Few times she would leave for auditions and gigs in Port Harcourt city. Few didn’t even give her the attention. Some would think she was too ambitious. But not at all. She’s a hard worker with a resilient spirit. Never giving up. I could remember an occasion in which the NYSC local Government inspector (LI) came to our PPA and didn’t find her on ground. Obviously okiemute has gone for an audition. She was slammed with query. Principal sef para. But Okiemute didn’t allow all that to deter her from what she was doing. Just like my friend Eghobaba would say “who query epp?” shey na N19,800 go feed me! After NYSC what next? Will FG still be feeding her? Oboy forget that thing. My girl Okiemute no wan hear. She no gree ooo. “Na who query epp?” She continued striving. By March 2016, she (Okiemute) went was part of the contestants that was sponsored by Airtel to South Africa for a singing competition. Chaiii, hustle don dey pay. She was edging closer to fame. Immediately she came back from South Africa, I watched as she inspired her students, her testimony was encouraging and motivating to her students. She spoke on how she had been down casted, mocked and pushed away during auditions, but she never gave up. She was persistent, resilient but never gave up. And finally, the singing took her to South Africa. I was motivated as she talked. Students were motivated too as they clapped. So many felt that would be the best she would get to. But not at all, She was still pushing forward. Fast forward to few months later, she had passed out of NYSC. She was still pushing. Before we knew it, Okiemute don enter project fame Academy. “She go even fit win?” some will ask. Well Okiemute has replied. On 24/09/2016 Okiemute won the 2016 MTN Project fame season 9. She don win oooo. From N19,800 to N5m, SUV and recording contract and appearance that took her to fame land. Some of the qualities I like about Okiemute are her drive, passion, the “not giving up” spirit. Her resilient nature is great. I must say, congratulations to Okiemute. I celebrate you. written by Christian C. Ozor http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/1220-from-n19-800-to-n5m-suv-recording-contract-and-fame-okiemute-ighorodje-2016-mtn-project-fame-winner

I used to think life is unfair to me. In 2010 when I finished my NYSC, some of my friends got a job immediately. Some got a month after service while some just a year. But mine, I was counting months and years while I continued the search. I was becoming weak and tired. 2010 had gone, and we are in 2015, yet no reasonable job, no plans for marriage while some of my friends are counting the number the number of kids they have. My strong 2.1 I graduated with was yet to save me from joblessness. I was still managing as a factory worker In 2015, February precisely, one of my relatives helped me got a job in ministry of works in Delta state. I had to relocate from Lagos to Asaba. Only for me to be relieved of the Job by June by the new Governor. I wasn’t even the only one sef. The new administration claimed that the recruitment was illegal so they had to lay off everyone employed from 2013-June 2015. It was so painful. The struggle continued. I waited if we would be called back but nothing happened. “But how long will I continue to wait,” I thought to myself. I had to move back to Lagos again after I was discouraged that we may not be called back to work. September, 2015 after returning to Lagos, I tried to see if I could raise money, N120,000 to see if I can start a second hand clothes business. But it was unfortunate that the N80,000 I managed to raised vanished from me. I don’t know if I will say it was mysteriously taken from me or carelessly threw it away the day I was going to give the money to the lady that will help make the purchase. Because that day, the only thing I could remember was that I woke up that morning after giving a call to the lady that will help me to confirm she was at home. I took N90,000 and shattered a Keke that will take me there. I was having the money in my trouser pocket. Only for me to get to my destination and discover that the money was no longer there. I only had my wallet with the little change intact, the money gone. And the keke man had gone. It made me look like a fool where the lady was. Who will I call and how will I explain the unexplainable to. I had gone into debt. I was tired of life. I felt it was just difficult to get just a reasonable job. The only job I was seeing that seem a little considerate was teaching but the pay was not encouraging. The administration will want you to teach 5 subjects for 5 days per week with take home pay of N20,000. I had to take up one which I resumed by January 2016. On 26th January, 2016, I was on my way home to Obalende from Victoria Island where I went to submit my CV to Zenith bank headquarters. I wasn’t even convinced about the job offer. I was even forced by a friend to do it. I had almost exhausted all the money I came there with. I was only left with N50 on me. I tried stopping a taxi that will take me out but all of them were asking for huge prices. No be even shatter sef. Any driver I told that I don’t have much on me, na so dem go dey look me with bad eye, with the way I dressed. And I can’t trek. 30 minutes gone by and I still dey there. As I was still standing wondering if I will trek or not, a black tundra came to my front and packed. Glass whined down, “eehe, young man what’s the problem, you have been standing here close to an hour,” the man inside the car said authoritatively as if he wants to arrest me. I told him I couldn’t find a car. He said he had been watching me for the past 20 minutes from a distance, and does it mean all the cars I had been stopping can’t pick me up. Or maybe I was 419ner or up to evil. Na so fear catch me as he talk am. I told him I wasn’t a con artist. But I had little money on me that will take me to my direction. He asked how much I had and where I was going. I told him I have N50 on me and I was going towards Oshodi area. Na so the man laughed and said, “all these scammers, you are looking for mercy. Look at how fine you are dressed and you are going to Oshodi without money on you. Is N50 money.” Na so I just dey look him. he said I was not serious and I was looking for a customer to scam. Na so him whine up come zoom off. As he moved, he stopped as if he forgot something. He reversed back again. He said that he was going towards that Oshodi direction, and since I have N50 I should enter so he will help me. As I entered, he began telling me that he’s a military man, and I shouldn’t tell him anything about dollars and if am a scammer, I shouldn’t play any deadly game with him, and if I do, he has a gun inside the car that will end my life. And that he was just trying to help me because he felt the urge. I told him I wasn’t a scammer, that I ran out of money that was why I was stranded. “Hmmm, na so all of una dey lie, so you can have free ride” he said. “Is there no ATM around, you should have gone to withdraw,” he repeated again. I just felt he was being harsh. As he moved, he asked me my name and where I work, I told him, but told him I was hadn’t gotten a good job, and I was only managing in one private school. I told him I just went to submit my CV to Zenith bank. Na so the man smile. He said it was because I ws always looking for a free ride that’s why I was yet to get a job. As the man said it, the thing pain me. I began regretting entering the car. This one no dey funny again, it’s an insult because he carry me for him car. It continued that any small thing, the man go tackle me. He would say that is why am jobless. Na so I just keep quiet come dey pray to get to my destination as soon as possible. But the man sef no gree. He will still be asking me unnecessary questions. At a time, he saw I was so quiet and wasn’t responding much to what he was saying. He asked if I was married. I told him I was yet to be married. “How can you be married! I believe you are also waiting for a free wife,” he said to me as he laughed. He said someone like me won’t get married, and infact he won’t even give his daughter or advise anyone he knows to give their daughter or sister to me to marry, abi what will I use to feed them. Maybe I will marry the woman for free, look for a free house to leave and after children don come, I will be looking for free rides for my kids to school and even free food. “kaiiii.” As he was saying those things, I was boiling in anger in me but I managed to smile. But who wan even marry his daughter? Because that one na problem. When we got to Oshodi were I will stop, I told him that I was getting down. He dropped me and asked for the N50. I was so shocked. I thought he won’t collect money from me. “My friend stop wasting my time, give me the N50 let me leave,” he shouted at me. Na so I dip my hand inside my pocket come begin find the N50. I no come see the money. As he was still waiting, looking at me to bring out the money, he saw I was unable to find the money. He began shaking his head, “you see your life, I said it, I just pity you,” he said to me. He dipped his hand into the front pocket of his shirt and brought out his complimentary card and gave to me. At first I didn’t want to collect it but I did. “Take my card, incase if you need free ride next time you can call me. Osho free,” he said as I collected the card and he zoomed off. Who will even want to enter his car again! With all those punch line of insults, mockery he has in his tongue. I won’t even dare to call him sef. Infact I even regretted it, that that would be the last day I will ever enter free ride again in my life. I put the card into my shirt pocket and left to my house. When I got home, I felt humiliated and in bitterness because of the incidence. I brought out his card from my pocket. I felt like calling him to insult him for the embarrassment he gave to me but changed my mind. I was still in bitterness and placed the card back into my pocket. Two days later when I brought out my clothes to wash. As I was searching my pockets to see if I didn’t have any valuable paper or money, I saw the complimentary card. At that moment i just felt like calling him to say “Thank you” for the ride he gave to me. Part of me said I shouldn’t because I was going to receive another humiliation. I obeyed the other part of me and called, he picked and I introduced myself. Me ------ I was the guy you gave a free ride the other day. Sir ------- Ooohhhh, the Osho free guy? If you want a free ride today, just forget about you because am not giving you. Me ----- No sir, I just called to say thank you for the ride you gave to me the other day. I really appreciate. Sir ----- Are you sure that you are not calling for a free ride? Am sure na free credit you take dey call me. I laughed as he said I was calling with free airtime Me ----- No sir. I believe you had a great night sir? Sir ----- Were you expecting me to have a bad night? Me --- No, just asking. Sir --- stop asking and go and look for job, or have you gotten ? Me --- No sir. Sir ---- Well its great you called. It shows you have regard for me and very appreciative of good things. But go look for a job. Before I know wetin dey happen, he don cut the call. Two days later I was surprised when I received a call from him. He asked if I have gotten a job. I told him no. He referred me to one of his friend’s company. He said I should go there and tell them he sent me, and he was going to call their big Oga over there. And that was how I went there and I got a job with six figure salary. Later I got to realize that he owns a share of the company and was part of the board members. Men and brethren! That was how I got a job ooo. Just from an irritating free ride. As time went on I realized that “Sir” told me the day he gave me free ride, some of them were true. He was just trying to motivate me. There are sometimes, some hard talks are hard truths we fail to believe about ourselves. He later liked me and we worked closely. I found him interesting only if you didn’t take most of the things he said personal and sometimes seriously. Today my life has changed. http://www.hovabuzz.com/frontline/1216-how-i-made-the-magic-appreciation-call-that-got-me-a-job |
