One of deadliest diseases around is HIV and AIDS. That is why Corp members serving in Asari Toru local Government in Rivers state, in partnership with the department of Disease and control, Ministry of health, Rivers state, took it upon themselves to go out on sensitization tour on safe sex, campaign against the diseases, and testing.
It is believed that 2 out of 5 teenage girls you find in the streets of Asari Toru LG must have given birth to a child. And safe sex is out of it for them. According to the “Observational Survey” conducted by a few Corp members, it is believed that some few teenage girls in that region, from between 13 to 17 years of age has either died of complications due to abortion, died of Abortion and suffering from some kind of sexually transmitted diseases. Abortion is so rampant in Asari-Toru LG.
All that made us corp members go out for sensitization on safe sex, HIV and AIDS. We majourly went to schools, chemist shops and the streets. We also conducted HIV tests on people. The sensitization and campaign took place in Buguma and Oproama communities of the LG. Here are couple of photos from the event

Romance / How She And Her Friends Took Her Boyfriend To The Mortuary On His Birthday by onismate: 5:11am On Jun 02, 2016
I grew up in Cameroon where my dad was temporary based due to his business. My parents gave I and my siblings almost every good thing we needed and wanted. None of us studied in Nigeria. My parents made sure they took good care of us.
July, 2015 after graduating from Kwame Nkrumah University in Ghana, I returned to Nigeria. It was like starting life again. I was fully back in the country. I had never spent up to 5 months in Nigeria on a straight. I only come for just a month or two months holiday. But this time, I was back fully in Nigeria.
Immediately I returned to the country, I moved to Port Harcourt where my house is. The first Sunday I attended a church, I met a guy. He was all over me during the service, trying to chat me up, thereby distracting me. Though I never wanted to look rude. I just had to condone his excesses till the end of the service. He said his name is Preye. We talked and he said he just finished his NYSC. He took my mobile number before we went our different directions.
That was how I and Preye began talking often on phone, then we moved to whatsapp. We became more closer. I began finding him appealing, and I was single. I was loving his swag, confidence and tenacity, even though he was from not-well –to-do family.
Barely 2 months we knew each other, that was in September, he asked me out and I fell for him. I loved him. I never knew that I was up for some bad attitudes.
We (I and Preye) officially started dating late September 2015. But I came to realize that my sisters and few friends don’t like him (preye). One of my friend said he has a questionable character, an aspiring gold digger because of the way he behaves in our midst. But I still defended him because I was in love.
In October my dad bought me Iphone 6 when he was coming back from London just a week to my NYSC orientation camp. I only used the phone for 2 days before Preye collected it from me when he visited. He said he wanted to show it to somebody. Well, he’s my boyfriend nah so I trusted him. Till I entered the camp he didn’t return the phone. I called him the day I was going to camp to return the phone, only for him to tell me he travelled out of town. I was very angry but later he apologized. He even visited me in camp because I served in Rivers state, begging that he lost his phone where he went to do a job. I forgave him. He even asked that I leave the phone for him. After much pleas, I left it for him since I can afford another one easily. When I left the camp, he asked me for N50,000. He said he wanted to use it for business. From the savings I had, I gave him N55,000. After a week, he came back again requesting for another N35,000. He said he was urgent. When I told one of my friends, she was so mad at me that I even gave him N55,000 the first time. But I no listen. I just love him. I wanted to make him happy while manipulated my mind because he saw my dad was rich. Even when I told my friends that I won’t give him the N35,000, but I secretly gave the money to him.
This year January 2016 while I was in my PPA in Buguma. Preye called me that he would be visiting me. Well, I accepted even though I have a roommate who is also a female too. Preye finally came. I thought it was just a one day visit. That when he just comes, he will leave that day. But my guy said he’s sleeping over to go the next day. Na so the thing be, from one day to 2 days. Before I knew what was happening, preye had stayed one week. I myself was not confortable. I want him to leave. My roomie had started complaining about him (Preye). I was even forcing him to go but he refused. He was just eating free food. Osho free. After much talks and quarrels, he finally left but not after extorting N12,000 from me. He left on the 17th of January.
After 5 days, Preye came back to Buguma again to see me. After couple of hours of talks and chats, I and my roomie went to the market to buy food items to cook. We were at the market when Preye called that he was on his way back to Port Harcourt. We were surprised because I thought he should have waited for us. It was just unusual. Well, he said someone just called him and it was an emergency and he had some pressing issues to attend to. When we got home, we discovered that the brand new Apple laptop that my roomie got had suddenly disappeared. Na so we begin find laptop oo. And we are the only corpers in the compound. And preye left the door open when he was leaving. The door was just wide open when we came back. It was when I finally called preye to tell him about the laptop that he said he was the one who carried the laptop. He said he thought the laptop belongs to me because I had told him that I was going to get an apple laptop. Immediately he said that, I was so angry because that was a total embarrassment. I told him that the laptop does not belong to me. And he didn’t even tell me before carrying it. I told him to bring the laptop back and he refused. I had to go to his place in Port Harcourt but he never came back home. He switched off his phone. I was able to get him the next day. Na me even beg make he give me the laptop with assurance that I will get him a tangible gift on his birthday. All to avoid embarrassment from my roomie. I finally took the laptop and returned it to my roomie. When some of my friends head what happened, they said the guy was using me. “The guy na scam,” one of my friend said. They said I have gone mad.
As days went by, I never had rest of mind. He kept on disturbing me about his upcoming birthday. He even said that we will be expecting a car from me. If he talk I go just laugh. When I told my friends what preye said about birthday gift, na so one of them say make thunder fire the guy. I no even get rest of mind because anytime he (preye) calls me, he will first remind me about February 13 which is his birthday. I totally became uncomfortable. I was tired and fed up, with fear in me. My friends asked me to break up with him but I suggested that I just buy him a nice gift on his birthday, after giving the gift to him, I just call it off. Not until another of my eccentric female friend suggested a weird approach which I was forced to buy into but wasn’t just convinced about it.
As time went on, one of my friend who knew someone working in the hospital had gone and negotiated with the person on how to lure Preye to that mortuary on his birthday. When she (my friend) told me, I was scared. “To what end are we luring him to the mortuary for,” I thought to myself. Because I don’t see any revenge in it. I felt maybe my friends had hired bad boys that will kill him that day. But my friends convinced me that they never hired anyone to harm him. That I should just forget and play along and fell relaxed.
On 13th February, at about 7am after I had called Preye to wish him a “Happy birthday,” Preye called me back that 3 of my friends called him to wish him happy birthday. He said he was surprised because he knew that my friends don’t like him at all. But my friends sounded jovial and nice on the phone when they talked with him. He said he was happy that my friends were beginning to like him. He said one of my friend said that we were taking him to somewhere that day. Na so I tell him “Yes,” that we will be taking him somewhere. He was just excited and told me that make sure that I give him a tangible gift. I told him to come him to come over to my place by 10am. I was just scared how the plan would turn out to be. I had to tell my friends that I didn’t have the mind to just carry on with the game. My friends had to come to my house while I was asked to go to the hospital to wait.
About 9:56am, Preye called me that he was at my place in Port Harcourt but it’s only my friends that is around. Before the his call, my friends had already called me that they told him that I was where they were organizing a nice party for him. So they (my friends) are to take him to the place. So when preye was asking me on the phone to confirm, I told him to just follow my friends, that they will bring him to where I am. The mumu followed them. He wanted a surprised birthday gift.
I was at the entrance door of the hospital when I saw preye and my friends waking in from the gate. Na so fear begin catch me. I couldn’t bear it. I had to go stay at one corner as I saw one of my friend covering Preye’s eyes with a black piece of cloth. I didn’t know how they managed to convince him and he agreed as they climbed upstairs towards the direction of the mortuary. Na so I begin follow them for back. They turned and saw that I was following them, and they began smiling. But me, I wasn’t finding it funny. As we got to the door written, “please keep off, MORTUARY. Not for non-staff.” I was just scared as one of the mortuary came and open the door. I couldn’t just follow them because as the door was opened, the atmosphere in the environment changed. I began felling cold. Everywhere seemed cold. “My friends shah get mind,” I thought to myself. I noticed that Preye was being uncomfortable as he asked where he was. I stood at one corner outside the room peeping at what was going on. I guess preye was somehow uncomfortable. He couldn’t bear it any more as he asked where he was. He had to forcefully remove the veil from his face and got the shock of his life. Dead bodies around. Na so Preye begin shout oo. “Shebi you wanted a surprise, I guess you are seeing one,” a friend of mine said. He began shouting that we brought him to a mortuary. As he was angrily walking out of the place, he saw me at one corner. He began quarreling and shouting at me that I was part of the people, I connived with my friends to come and kill him there. He nearly began beating me not until the mortuary attendant threatened to deal with him if he lays a finger at me. Na so Preye walked out of the place and out of my life for good. He later sent me a text that I am wicked nd witch. Me sef no reply the stupid guy even though I felt for him. My friends took some guys to his home and threatened him to stay away from me. Indeed Preye is a real gold digger. Couple of days past, I saw one of his posts and chats with a girl on facebook. He actually tagged me. Well he has moved to another girl, another mugu that he will scam. The girl was busy falling and blushing for his compliments. I guess she’s the next maga.

Jobs/Vacancies / How He Wonderfully Got A Job In An Oil Coy After A Distasteful Exam At Mobil by onismate: 5:28am On May 28, 2016
I had made up my mind to make it in this life no matter what it takes. And when it’s your time, no one can change it.
October 2013 after my passing out parade (POP) of NYSC, two months later I was informed by a neighbour of mine that mobil oil was recruiting. I called about 6 of my friends to inform them so we all will apply. We applied together and we were invited for their test. It was unfortunate when we got to the test hall because I felt it was our first ever attempt of job hunting. The questions given to us, each has 4 options with 2 correct answers. So we were asked to pick two answers from the options. It was so annoying to us. When we came out of the test hall, I and my friends were complaining.
Few weeks later when the test result came out, it was only one of us that made it to the next stage which is the oral interview. The worse part of it was that the guy that made it to the next stage had written mobil test before but never told us. He was used to that pattern of test, he had the experience so he was able to cross. It pained us because he never informed us that that is how mobil tests are so we could prepare for what was to come. It was after he had been called that he began telling us that he had done mobil test before and how they operate. The thing pain me enter my bone because me sef wey get the job information I shared it among us friends and he couldn’t tell us what he knew. Well, after everything I moved on with my life.
few months later, I took out two weeks to move round some major oil companies in Port Harcourt. I got their addresses. I also did research too and got some on their websites. I was preparing to submit physical (hardcopy) CV to those companies. I edited my CV, printed and did photocopies. I took out 2 weeks to submit my CV to about 23 companies in Port Harcourt. Na so I begin wait for calls. One month pass, two months pass and three months pass, yet no call from any company was coming into my phone. Na so I just remove my mind from them. I decided to upgrade my knowledge. Since I studied Mechanical engineering, I felt like going for training on Autocard. After registering for the course, I still continued with my job hunting.
Two months later, still no job yet. I was coming back from Autocard class when I received a call. The caller was a female. She said she was calling from ******* oil, one of the companies I submitted my CV to during my mass CV submission period. I had even forgotten sef. She called my name and asked if she was really talking with me! I told her “yes.” She asked me couple of questions about me which I answered. She asked where I was and I told her. She said If i should come for an interview the next two days. That day sef was the day I was to write my exam for Autocard lesson. I was very sincere. I told her that I have an exam that day and it won’t be right for me to just leave like that but I will inform them first. She said I was right, that I should inform them. After the call I called my people in my Autocard office. They asked me to go that after the interview I should come back for the exam.
I went to the company’s office. I was expecting a major interview but it turned out to be a familiarity session. After everything, I was asked to go to the HR for my appointment letter. I was sooooo happy. When I told my friends, they were so surprised how I got a job in that oil company because it’s believe that if one doesn’t have any connection or any one in that company they can’t get any job in that company. Some of my friends asked how I manage to get into the company. Me sef I no know. I tell them say na God. Not after a month later, one of the staff played me a tape and explained how I got the job. He said the former person occupying the position was a female who studied chemical engineering. Her dad was influential and rich so she just got the job on a platter of gold. But she was inexperienced and not into the job. If they ask her to bring plyer she would go get a scissors. That was where their boss asked that she should be removed from that department and asked that they should find someone who studied mechanical Engineering to fill the position. So the HR team had to get all the over 200 CVs their post box. And I was the only one that studied Mechanical Engineering. So they had to call me. “Chaiii, na so my body dey do me yori-yori.” I was very lucky and favoured. All that made me remember the day I came to submit my CV at that company. The gateman no even allow me enter. I had to kneel down and begged oooo. He had to just collect my CV and closed their company’s gate. But when I resumed I didn’t see the gateman again. Today I am so grateful to God Almighty. I am just rising.

Family / See The Prank A Girl On Him When FG Was Yet To Pay Corpers March Allowee by onismate: 6:24am On May 13, 2016
The month of April was the most difficult to some corpers due to delay in payment of corpers allowee for the month of March. Hunger nearly killed some. We have waited, prayed for the credit alert to enter the phones, but it seemed the Federal Government had forgotten corpers. It seemed they were not going to to pay us for the month of March, and we are in April 9th.
On April 10th a colleague of ours began shouting in the lodge, “Alert don enter ooo, NYSC don pay.” Na so everybody begin check their phone ooo. He was the only one that received credit alert from FCMB on NYSC payment. Na so my guy dress up that he was going to the town to withdraw. He was full of excitement. “Chaii, wetin come dey delay our own nah,” I thought to myself. We had to tell the one that received alert to still wait so some of us can confirm ours before giving him our ATM cards to help us withdraw. And the waiting began. Two hours past, 5 hours past and still yet no alert and it was getting late.
The next morning, alert never still show. Na only my guy wey dey use FCMB get alert. It was surprising to us. My guy said he can’t wait for us. That he wants to go withdraw his money before hunger finishes him. he had to borrow about N1000 from a friend. we gave him our ATM cards, hoping NYSC must have paid but we were yet to get alert. And he left for town.
Two hours later, our guy we sent to withdraw for us called us to say that he used our ATM and there was no money in our accounts, so NYSC is yet to pay us. He said he even tried to withdraw his own but was told “insufficient balance.” He had to check his balance and discovered there was nothing in his account. “But how come he got the alert that NYSC has paid?” he checked the message again to confirm. But there was a message that FG has paid. “Or maybe they credited but the bank reversed the payment! He tried another ATM and same thing. He went to another ATM joints and still the same thing. He had to visit the nearest FCMB branch where they verified there was no payment yet into the account. “But how come he got an alert?” He showed them the alert he got. Na so dem begin dig the matter up. It was discovered that it was his fellow corper female friend that sent the credit alert message to him. She went into his phone, the name she used in saving her number, she changed it to FCMB and sent the message to him.
When my guy realized this, the thing pain him. It was a heavy prank. And the lady was not on ground. She did it and travelled. When he called the her, she laughed at us to badly. Well, my guy dey prepare him own revenge prank. But thank God Federal government began paying on the 11th and 12th of April. FG, abeg make una no try that kind rough play again, paying allowee of the previous month on mid of the next month.

Jobs/Vacancies / After Being Humiliated In Her Former Place Of Work, She Got A Very Good Job by onismate: 6:46am On May 10, 2016
Here is a beautiful and inspiring story of how this young lady got a job that changed her life.

I want to share this beautiful life experience of mine, how I got a job that changed my life.

November 2010 when I finished my NYSC in Rivers state. I was joy to me, but also sadness because I wasn’t retained in the Government school I served. I gave my best, my all in all. I even donated text books to the school library. Even the church I attended, I was a very serious church worker who participated in virtually all church activities. I was so pained because it looked as if I gave my best and I wasn’t rewarded by God for my hard work and loyalty to God.

After my passing out parade (POP), I went back to Benin. I began searching for job. For 4 months I couldn’t see a reasonable job with a fairly moderate pay. All was just teaching jobs with 10 to N15,000 per month. I was so devastated because N15,000 couldn’t go any were. My Aunty in Mararaba, Abuja invited me to come over to stay with them. When I came down to Abuja, there was a school close to their house. She (my aunty) linked me to the proprietor of the school that they were looking for a chemistry teacher. Well I decided to apply. But the day I came to the school, I changed my mind. The school was built with palm fronds, and I don’t think it was even registered. The principal. I even heard the principal can only pay me N7,000 if they employ me. Na so I refused ooo. “I can’t imagine myself working there” I thought to myself. When I went back the house, I told my aunty that I can’t work in that school. Though my Aunty was angry with me that I didn’t want to do anything. But it wasn’t so. I was only looking at convenience.

As time went on, I got a job in a hotel (not a big hotel) in Mararaba. I was being paid N25,000 per month. The pay was fair enough to me and my work operates in shifts.

As time went on in the hotel, I tried as much as possible to maintain my dignity. Some customers came to like my jovial and working attitude, that they tip me regularly. Infact I get up to N10,000 in tips monthly.

There was this particular day that the owner of my hotel came with a guest who lodged in the hotel over the night. When the guest was leaving with my Oga. My Oga turned to him and was like “see one of una people ooo. She’s from Edo state.” Referring to me as he (my Oga) was telling the guest about me. The guest laughed and asked my name. I told him. He asked where I came from in Edo state. I told him it’s Ekpoma. He spoke the language while I replied with the language too. We all laughed as he introduced himself as one of the Managing director (MD) in Federal Government owned bank. He gave me his complimentary card before he left. When I looked at the complimentary card sef, I was impressed, but I kept it inside a bag some were in my room. I felt contacting him later would be a waste, he may take advantage and or sleep with me.

I continued with my job and my life, enjoying the little tips I get from my working place with the shifting job. It seemed I wasn’t ready to leave there. I was just so comfortable.

2 months later, I was on afternoon shift. I came to work a little bit late due to traffic jam caused as a result of protest going on in some parts of Abuja. Na so I come inside the restaurant, the manager began shouting and quarrelling for me. I was trying to explain to him what made me come late but wasn’t ready to listen. Before I knew what was happening, a hot slap landed on my right cheek. “kaiii, na that one pain me pass.” I wanted to slap him back but I kept cool and angrily left the place. I don’t want us to start disgracing ourselves in front of customers and guests. Make them no come dey separate fight. As I left there, I went to a corner of the building and started crying. I was so pained. If my Oga(the owner of the hotel) was around, he wouldn’t have supported what the manager did because he likes me and would understand because I don’t just come late to work. I felt belittled because the manager in question, the way he was abusing and raining raining curses on me as if I was her daughter. This was someone who is just an SSCE holder. Just because he was opportune to be the manager of the hotel. As I cried, a friend of mine consoled me. As at then I wished I had a better job. My friend asked me about the MD that gave me his card. I told her I didn’t know where I kept the card, and I had even forgotten about the whole incident because I felt he may request to sleep with me before helping me. She (my friend) encouraged me to try and find the man’s (MD) number and call him. She said in as much it’s rampant that bosses are sleeping with their employees in exchange for favour, it’s not every boss that does so. And this MD might be different. She said I should just try but if he tries to do anything funny, then I can run as fast as my leg can carry me.

I got home that day and began searching for where I kept the MD’s card. I couldn’t find it. It took me 2 days to later discover it inside one of my handbags in my clothes box. Immediately I found it, I called him but the number was switched off. I tried the number the next day and it went through. I told him I was, at first he couldn’t recollect but I had to describe the incident that happened the day him and my Oga came to our hotel. Na there he come remember. He asked why I didn’t call him since all those while. I no even know wetin I wan answer. He asked me to come see him the next day.

The next day I just abandoned my hotel job and went to his (MD’s) office to see him. He was kind of angry that I didn’t call for over two months he gave me his card. I no hide myself ooo. I told him I was In need of a good job when he asked me some few questions about me. Well, he told me that his bank is currently recruiting and they gave him only one slut. Though he has a cousin of his who needs the job, he reserved the slut for him. but as it is, he will collect the both of us CV, any one the company picks from the both of us is the lucky one. I thanked him so much.

The next day I brought my CV to MD. I resigned from the hotel I was working just to avoid the too many embarrassment I was facing.

A month and two weeks later, the MD called that I should come to his office. I came to his office the next day. He sat me down. “Do you know what?” he said. I was kind of scared and curious. I asked what was that. “You have a good head,” he said as he laughed. He said he just wanted to tell me that the bank preferred me over his cousin that submitted his CV. He congratulated me because I have been hired. “You are just highly favoured and lifted by God” he said again. As he was saying it, tears ran down my eyes. I didn’t even know how to express myself as he asked me to go to their HR department. He even asked why I was crying. Me I no know wetin to tell him.

To be sincere with you, that was how I got the job. Since I got that job, my life had not remained the same.

Fast-forward to one year later, my boss(MD) sent me to the hotel I work before to deliver something to the Oga who was his friend. And guess what! I went there with my car. When the Manager saw me, you need to see the way he ran to hug me. This was someone that abused me when I was working there. But now things had changed. We talked so well. Thank God things changed for better for me.

I am telling this story to encourage those that are looking for job. God will do it for you. It’s just a matter of time.

NYSC / Here Are Advantages And Disadvantages Of NYSC (my Opinion) by onismate: 5:53am On May 09, 2016
7 Advantages and 4 Disadvantages of NYSC And Being A Corper
The dream of any Nigerian undergraduate is to serve their fatherland, obeying the compulsory clarion call of NYSC. After graduating from the university, I was so anxious to go for my NYSC. Now wey I don dey serve, thing come tire me.
So many are of the opinion that NYSC is beneficial why others disagreed, saying that NYSC is a scam. But for me, here are 7 advantages and 4 Disadvantages of NYSC and being a corper.
Seven (7) Advantages
1. Driving without a License- As a corper, you can drive a car without a “Driver’s license,” provided you are on your NYSC uniform or proper identification as a corper.
2. You are Known, not Anonymous- As a corper, you are known and not anonymous to people. Imagine travelling on the high way and the police or Army stops your car. You will realize that every other people in the car will be searched and interrogated, but tell them you are a corper with your ID card, they won’t even search or interrogate you. So you are not anonymous.
3. Federal Immunity- There are some special privileges enjoyed by corpers. One of them is federal immunity. That is why you see that there are some places as an ordinary person you can’t just enter. But as a corper, with your uniform there are so many places you can enter and doors are opened for you. And to an extent you are untouchable. I heard of a story of a guy who was walking towards a sensitive area in Aso Rock district. The security officials had to send him back and told him that if that he wasn’t a corper, he would have been badly beaten, because no one can just walk through that area ordinarily. But the federal immunity covered him and he was just sent back.
4. Respect and Recognition- As a corp member, any were you go with that NYSC uniform, or even the cap, and you are identified as a corper, people will respect and regard you.
5. Job- You can use the NYSC certificate to secure a job unless you didn’t serve or given certificate of exemption. If not, it will be difficult to get a without NYSC certificate.
6. It Makes Nigerian Youths Tougher- The scheme, starting from camp makes one tougher mentally, physically, spiritually and mentally. It helps you blend in job hunting times.
7. Unification, Socialization, Networking- The scheme helps to unite Nigerians from every state, ethnic and religious backgrounds. Socialization aspect, it helps people to mix, mingle and socialize, get to meet new friends they have never met before. Networking is also important. You never can know who will be of help to you.
4 Disadvantages of NYSC
1. The scheme is time wasting – To be sincere with you, with the current state of the NYSC scheme in Nigeria, it seems to be a waste of time and resources. The paper certificate has become more important than the entire one year scheme. The scheme needs to be restructured. Most corp members are being posted to classrooms which won’t enhance their skills, and out of line with what they studied in the university.
2. No Insurance scheme- There is no insurance scheme for corp members. There should have been a reasonable insurance scheme for corpers to make it more palatable.
3. No Job Guarantee- After serving the country, we are just left on our own. The Government should provide a viable and reputable structure that after service, we are integrated into good jobs. Not after service we are being left alone. Even though there are no jobs, rather than engaging in the scheme, they should just gather all the allowee money and give it to us to start a business after the compulsory 3 weeks orientation camp.
4. The NYSC paper certificate is more important than the scheme- The NYSC has highly exalted the certificate more than the scheme that it’s virtually impossible for any employer to give you a job in Nigeria, even to do your post graduate sef na problem without the certificate.

Advise to NYSC. They should try to infuse better skill acquisition program to the scheme that will be beneficial to corp members. So after passing out, they must have gotten a good development, they must have gotten a skill that will help them.
NYSC needs to restructure the scheme with greater innovations and improvements.

Check Out The Amazing Designs And Skills Of This Corper Who Is Into Painting, Wall Screed And POP Ceiling....

The bible says that “A man’s gift maket way for him.” that is why am not leaving any stone untouched in achieving my goal. In this our present day Nigeria, one can’t leave a comfortable life depending on just a single monthly job salary. That is why NYSC decided to infuse SAED to the program. To enable corp members learn at least one skill in addition to their degree. The job market is saturated, no much available slots. Na handwork be the koko.
My Name is Isikuma Innocent, am into House painting, wall screed and P.O.P ceiling. This is the work I am into even before obeying the clarion call, and it’s paying me so well. I have done couple of beautiful design works for big hotels and buildings, and still doing it. Here are couple of photos of my works.

When you never serve body go dey catch you. Yes nah, young Nigerian graduates wants to wear that NYSC uniform. But when you enter there, you will want to run out. Being a corper serving your country is sweet. At least to an extent you have a federal immunity. Atleast as a corper, you can drive without the “driver’s license,” provided you are on that uniform. That and many other things you will enjoy as a corper. But there are too many rules and regulations in NYSC. The fact you are a corper, possess the federal immunity doesn’t give you rooms to just misbehave. If you do that, I believe you will be punished with extension or even exit from NYSC scheme.

Being given extension in NYSC doesn’t mean it would be in your certificate, no. NYSC will only withhold your certificate till you finish serving your extension. Extension can be one week, two weeks, one month and up to three months.

Here are bad things that can give you extension, or even exit out of the NYSC scheme.

1. Disobedience in Camp: When you get to camp, the NYSC rules and regulations, By-laws will be given to you, so any disobedience to it can lead you out of the camp immediately. Or sometimes they will wait till your passing out day before giving you an extension for the offence.

2. Wrong influencing of your Place of primary assignment (PPA) posting: This has actually giving too many people extensions. Your last day in camp you will be given your posting letter to your PPA. But some people will chose to stay back in camp when they don’t like where they were posted to, or even go to their state secretariats to work things out to be posted to a better place. This gives rooms for them to be preyed upon, money will be extorted from them by some dubious NYSC staffs promising to help them. But when the thing will backfire, NYSC will discover it then hit you with an extension. About 5 of my friends from the recently passed out 2015 batch A corp members received an extension because of this. They were posted to a place they didn’t like. They tried working it out and a fake way. NYSC discovered it and reposted them back to their original location. On their passing out day, they hit each and every one of them with a maximum of two weeks extension. Note, if you have a viable and good reason to relocate, redeploy or influence your posting, NYSC will not hesitate to do that for you provided its genuine.

3. Missing Head count: Missing head count can give you an extension of service in NYSC. Anytime you are called upon for head count, please make sure you are there because if not, that one go be extension. The Devil will be dancing skelewu on your head. So many people had been given an extension for missing head count.

4. Gross misconduct: I had to embed some offences into this. As a corper, the NYSC uniform opens way for you in some cases. But you will be warned that you are not to wear the uniform to some occasions or events. Failure to heed to it will be extension. Another instance is rape, and also sleeping with your female students and getting them pregnant. This might even give you an exit from NYSC.
Some must have committed this offences and nothing happened. But you may not be lucky.

NYSC / Re: Prospective Corp Members; Some Things You Need To Know About Serving In Rivers by onismate: 7:21am On Apr 21, 2016
You NYSC journey starts after your orientation course in Nowna. Orientation is just an important addition. Rivers state Government pays state allowee. Infact they are the highest paid in Nigeria. If you serve in main Port Harcourt town, your state allowee is N10,000 monthly, while outside port Harcourt is N15,000 monthly. It was formally N5,000 for port Harcourt and N10,000 for outside port Harcourt but Governor wike increased it by N5,000 due to the death of a corp member during the Rivers state re-run election. But Rivers state has not paid corp members state allowee since 2012. But we are expecting and hoping that as wike has said he will start paying starting from the 2015 Batch A corp members that passed out on April 14th.

There are too many advantages serving in Rivers state. It has been known that 20 to 30% of corpers who served and serving in Rivers state don’t return back to their states. There are too many opportunities in Rivers most especially Port Harcourt town if you are hardworking and smart. Disadvantages is that things are unnecessarily expensive and over hyped. As a corper, if you want to leave a comfortable life, eat good food, you can barely save up to N5,000 in Rivers state. Transportation cost is tooooooo expensive. Another disadvantage is security. Rivers has security challenges with too many cult and political clashes and fights. As a corper in Rivers state, any were you find yourself, most especially outside Port Harcourt town, please do not cross your boundary, respect yourself and do not interfere with the community and political matters, because they don’t joke with politics in that state.

Another thing I want you to note about serving in Rivers state is, if you think you will be posted to a big oil company, that a lie. All corpers are entering classrooms. You are coming to teach unless you studied law or medicine.

Another thing about serving in Rivers state, don’t think because you are a corper wearing the NYSC uniform it will give you an edge, not at all because to an extent they don’t regard corpers here unlike the North and other parts of the country. Don’t think they will be worshiping you, fetching water or even your students do your chores, lai-lai. They won’t. If you be corper, na for your own pocket because them no send you.

Please note that you cannot have it all in Rivers state. One of the most important things you need is electricity, good communicating network, water and good house. There are some areas/local Governments like Phalga(Port Harcourt), Obior akpor and other places. Light na problem for those places and they pay for it monthly. While for someone like me who is serving in Asari-Toru, I don’t pay for any electricity. The local Government pays electricity bills of the whole communities in that local Government. And there is always constant electricity. But browsing network is a problem in some of the communities. In Rivers, so many of the communities don’t pay electricity bills. It’s either oil companies provide them with power or the local Government pays. Examples are Asari-Toru, Bonny island, Onelga.

Serving in Rivers state is wonderful. Have a great time..

In camp, make sure you respect the soldiers, but don't fear them. They can't beat you. They have been authorized not to harm any corp members or beat them. The only thing they do is to instinct fear into corpers. But please respect them, if not you will be on your way out of the camp and out of NYSC. If You don't respect their rules, you will receive punishments.
Then the carnival. Towards the ending of camp, you will have your carnival, camp Burn fire night.. It was so exciting. Here are couple of photos from my own carnival.

NYSC / Prospective Corp Members; Some Things You Need To Know About Serving In Rivers by onismate: 7:17am On Apr 21, 2016
If you are interested in Rivers state or posted to Rivers state, here are couple of things you need to know about serving in Rivers state.

Preparing to go for your compulsory NYSC orientation camp, you need items like, 3 to 4 white shorts, 4 white t-shirts, white sucks(3), a rubber canvass. You can only take 2 or 3 mufti clothes because white shirt, short and canvas will be what you will be wearing throughout your stay in camp.

Rivers state is an oil rich state with 23 local Governments. The state orientation camp is located in Nonwa in Tai local Government area of Rivers state. It is in the heart of the popular Ogoni land.

Life in camp in Rivers state during my time, Batch B 2015 (October 2015) is very exciting. Things in rivers state are pretty expensive. A plate of food was N250, but now things won’t be like that. Nigerian economy is not helping matters. So expect that a plate of food in Rivers state camp may be up to N400 or N450 or even N500 for 2016 in coming Batch A corp members. For making calls, all the four major networks of Airtel, Mtn, Glo and Etisalat are working. For browsing, Mtn seems to be the fairer out of the four for browsing in Rivers orientation camp. The other 3 network providers are just okay but not the best unless things have changed this period. Life in camp is so sweet and wonderful. Your first allowee of N19,800 will be paid to you in cash on camp. The Rivers camp is very swampy during rainy season. The hostels are okay, even one of the best in Nigeria. During my time I stayed in hostel B3 and there were sockets to charge my phones. We don’t go to mami to pay N50 to charge phones.

For the hostel toilets and bathrooms, I have couple of photos. They are neat but trust Nigerian graduates to mess them up as quickly as possible. You will definitely meet different characters of people in camp. Some will go to toilet without water. Here are couple of photos..

Politics / How Americans Would React (vs) How Nigerians Do About Pmb's Frequent Travels by onismate: 5:29am On Apr 16, 2016
We Nigerians are funny set of people. And our mouth too sharp. Now I did a brief comparison if Americans were to be in Nigeria and Buhari is the President, here is how they would react to the President’s frequent travelling.

Jackwon Mayor- I think President Bubu should resign. He is an a5s Hole who doesn’t know what he’s doing. Fuel is getting more expensive and scarce by the day and he’s the minister busy junketing around.

Theon wawick- Can somebody tell that old man to stop travelling the world and stick to the nemesis his incompetent decisions is causing.

Katty shawn- My dog, Jack couldn’t go for treatment the other day because there was no fuel in my car. It was a pity that my dog jack died. I want the senate to impeach the president. The suffering is too much.

NOW HERE IS HOW NIGERIANS REACT

Aboy Omo Jesu: SMH for my beloved country. I think Buhari’s brain needs to be examined. He is the ghost on rampage sent by the devil to torment us. End time travelling. Ajala the traveller. Nkechi Tabansi -- It seems the first time PMB travelled out of this country, he left his brain and came back. Since that time this country has not remained the same. Maybe he’s travelling around the world searching for his lost brain or looking for the president that will borrow him.

Gej supporter – It shall not be well with Buhari. Where are those who trekked for him, or have they entered ghost mode? APC and Buhari is scam. The old man is virtually ruling us from the skies. Junketeer in Chief. When GEJ was there, he didn’t travel much but we saw results, but what do we have now. Buhari, a president who lives and breathes on the skies, spending our heart earned money, foreign reserve. He’s just a he-goat. GEJ my role model.

Buhari pikin-- @Gejsupporter, your father is the he-goat. Has your father or any of your generations attained the height of even councilor? No, but you are here running your mouth. When your so called role model, GEJ was there, the Otueke palm wine tapper and his drunkard cabinet where busy stealing our money and taking it abroad. It is the problem he caused that President Buhari is fixing. He’s travelling is not in vain. Atleast we are seeing great improvements in the economy, investors are trooping in. his trip to China is to bring in huge investment into the country.

Gej supporter --- @Buhari pikin, Which investment is he going to China to bring? Oh, he’s going to import china phones, Tecno and infinix phones abi, or second hand china products. And please don’t forget to tell him to import water, fuel, light, and China products that don’t last, mumu. Has Buhari ever stayed in this country for straight two weeks without travelling? A man who has never conducted a successful election since he came in! Kogi- Inconclusive, Bayelsa- Inconclusive, Osun central-Inconclusive, Rivers-inconclusive. Even his life is inconclusive. May God punish you and your entire generation.

Buhari Pikin-- @Gejsupporter, Mr wailer, now I know where your problem is. You have no good site for greatness. My Bubu, please continue your good work. May God bless you.
hahaha hahaha .... Na joke ooooo

Sports / He Won Huge Sum Of Money And Nairabet Agent Frustrated Him From Collecting It by onismate: 6:59am On Apr 09, 2016
“Poverty na disease,” just like Naija comedians do say. Indeed poverty is bad. When you don’t have money you are not celebrated, and when you are not celebrated you are just tolerated.

This particular Wednesday, I was so hungry. No food at home and my mom was yet to be back from market she went to. I just came back from my dad’s carpentering shop. The remaining N100 my dad gave to me was what was left with me. I went to Iya labake’s food canteen. Na beg I wan go beg to see if she fit sell food for me. But it was unfortunate that Iya labake chased me away. The one that pained me most was, she said I always come there to buy things on credit. That one pain me for bone. She said it in front of many customers. Even customers that come normally come to my dad’s shop to give my dad work. I had only bought things on credit from her just 3 times. “She no wan even wan look my face as I bring out N100. Though I wanted to buy a food of N200 then give her N100, to come back later to give her the remaining N100. With annoyance in me, I left with my N100 with terrible hunger holding me to ransom. My tummy was playing royal rumble. Na so I take my money waka dey go back home. While I was going back home, I saw a friend of mine in Nairabet shop. Na so I say make I enter go greet him. I never had any intension of betting on any game. The ones I have been betting I had never won any so I felt there was no need of betting make I rest for a while because I no get money. But the way those guys were arguing about the games. Something began to push me to play. I tried to hold myself because na that only N100 I get. Part of me was like “You know you don’t have money. You only have N100 and remember you are still going to your father’s shop, and you wan bet.” Another part of me wants me to bet.

I decided to take the risk to just bet. I just wanted to relieve myself of the insults I received from Iya labake. And I wasn’t a pro in betting game. Na so I just I decided to bet with the N100. I had to bet on just 30 games. After betting with the money, I went back home to drink garri.

2 days later, I had almost forgotten that I had a bet on some games two days back. It was when I was walking across the Nairabet shop in my street that I remembered I placed a bet on some games. And even the games I had a bet on I was not familiar with them. It was 10 English games and 15 European games and 5 Asian games out of anger. Na so I run go house go find my bet slip come go back to the shop. When I got there I gave the slip to the guy at the shop to check it. At first he objected when I gave him the slip. He said the games had passed so he can’t check it. Na so I begin beg ooo. He finally accepted and helped me check. As he was checking it, I noticed he became gentle at a point. He turned and gave me the slip and asked me to tear the slip that only one game spoilt the whole 30 games, and it was one of the English premiership game. “Chaiiii,” as he said it was only one game that spoilt the entire winnings, I was so sad. But I was able to peep on the screen of the computer, but I wasn’t seeing any red bar. I saw all green. As he noticed my eyes were on the screen, he immediately closed the tab. But I was still sad. With the slip still in my hand, I left the place sad. As I was leaving, the guy at the shop still insisted I tear the slip. Well I just ignored him and left. He saw me as a novice in betting game. As I left the shop, I saw a friend of mine. He was going to bet. He asked why my face looked odd. I told him that Manchester united had spoilt my game. He laughed at me, “eyahhh, sorry,” he consoled me. He asked if I had the slip with me. I told him “yes.” He asked if he could see it. I gave it to him. “No nah, man u win this game nah,” he said. He asked If i didn’t watch the match. I told him I didn’t. “And I rarely watch matches. I just bet then go back to check the outcomes at their bet shops.” He said the game the bet shop guy said Manchester united lost, they actually won it, and he even watched it. Me sef come dey surprise as I hear the thing. He said we should go back to the bet shop. We went back to the shop and the bet shop guy refused to even answer me. The guy sef com dey shout for me. He said shebi he had already asked me to tear the slip. Na so me and my guy come dey beg him make he open the thing again. The guy no gree. He was just trying to intimidate me because I am just a teen at 17. We just want him to open it so we see it ourselves. As we waited and begged, the guy refused. But as we begged more, other people coming into the shop became curious about what was happening. The pressure was immense on the bet shop guy to open my games. Na so the guy come finally open the game. “Chaii, Jehovah is too good.” This guy nearly scam me oo. Everything was green. I have won N180,000 with N100. Na so people come dey carry me up for the shop oo.

After everything, the bet shop guy said he would call the manager to comeso my payments will be sorted out. when the manager came, he said they will give me N100,000 that day, then I should come collect the remaining N80,000 the next day. When he gave me the N100,000. Na iya labake canteen I first go. I just wanted to show her that there is nothing God cannot do. The fact say I no get money to buy enough food for her shop, it was even a blessing that I didn’t even use the N100 in her shop. When I got to iya labake’s shop, she didn’t open for market that day. It really pained me.

I was so happy, the next day I was given my remaining N80,000.

Jobs/Vacancies / His Friends Called Him An Errand Boy, But Today His Errand Has Paid Off by onismate: 4:50am On Apr 07, 2016
Life is a journey and we never can tell who we meet on the way. My own case is slightly similar to that of Abraham in the Bible who came across an Angel. Unknowingly, he gave them bread and took care of them, that was where he was promised a child from God, and the rest is history.

My mom was an Akara seller who struggled to put I and my brothers through school. And life isn’t easy at all will all its short comings.

2014 after graduating from the university and awaiting my NYSC, I moved to Port Harcourt to join my uncle and his family. I started working in a Business center in Choba, close to Uniport pending till I go for my NYSC. Due to it’s a student environment and its 8am to 6pm, and the manager just started new in the area, I still managed the pay, N8,000. Customer response was very poor. Sometimes I do stay the whole day without any person coming to do any printing, photocopy or any job in my center.

This particular Wednesday afternoon after a rough morning. PHCN disconnected our power without no good reasons. So we were just left to use generator. Secondly, a man came and did a job without paying. It really hurts. I thought I had had enough that morning. Coming to afternoon, I was in the shop when a lady just walked in. the way she badged in sef was annoying. She was in a haste and looked angry. She asked if we have internet service. I told her we do. She said I should Google some works, do printing and photocopy for her. I just smiled. “My friend come and do this things for me, you are just looking and smiling like a goat,” she shouted at me. I was surprised because of her outburst as if I was her slave. I still kept my cool and calmness as I collected the work from her. “Don’t you people have A.C here?” she asked. I told her we didn’t. Na so she begin complain that other business centers have but it seemed we are so wretched. She couldn’t just understand why she was just raining curses on me. We have never met before neither has she been to our center before. I kept cool and told her not to worry that we would get A.C. I began her work. At a time she began complaining that I was too slow and I wasn’t getting the right results she wanted from Google and I was wasting her time. I looked at her and smiled and kept calm even when I was boiling inside me. I looked at her and told her to calm down that she will get what she is looking for. She began comparing our center with other big centers around Uniport. That if not because the other big business centers were full of people working she wouldn’t have come to our own. I began pleading with her to exercise patience. I even went as far as getting her refreshment when she said she wanted to get something to eat. I became the errand boy. After about 3 hours of work. After I don burn about 1gb of data and the printing and photocopies, she gave me N350. I tried to explain to her that her money was N2,750, but madam no gree. She said she wasn’t going to pay for the internet service because I didn’t get the actual things she wanted. And infact sef I don’t deserve to be paid. The thing pained me but I still smiled, trying to be friendly. But I no fit drag with her. I had to let go as she left. But she didn’t leave without telling me that I was useless in that shop, that my Oga should even employ another person. And she packed the work she said I didn’t don well. She carry dem go, and na generator I take run the work. To think she was very beautiful, young with that kind of attitude. I was really troubled when I got home. I felt humiliated but I still encouraged myself.

The next day, I was sitting in the shop when the troublesome woman that woman that didn’t pay me the previous day came in. I greeted her so well as if nothing happened the previous. And she replied me well, asking me how my night was. I was surprised, that was a woman that was abusing me, saying she won’t come to our shop again. Everything about her seems to have changed that day as she told me that her project supervisor approved and gave an excellent recommendation of her work, the one I help her with the previous day. I smiled in happiness. Na so she begin apologize for what she did the previous day. She said I should just forgive her because she had a bad day in her office and one of her kid was sick, couple with her pregnancy. She gave me money for the previous day and additional N1,000 for me. She went out and bought snacks for me oo. She asked me for my name and number. I told her I was a graduate and awaiting NYSC. She said I should call her mummy Nifemi. She asked why I didn’t even react when she was raining abuses the previous day, I was just smiling. I told her I am slow to anger. She said she liked my nature, that I know how to handle customers.

That was how became friends and she became a special customer. Infact she directed all her friends doing PhD and masters degree to our business center to be doing their works. Before we know wetin dey happen our shop don dey full with so many customers. Sometimes she calls me to come and collect work from her house to do for her. She introduced me to her husband sef and I became a very good friend to the family. Their family is very rich. Her husband works in a popular gas firm in Port Harcourt. They deal in supplies, marine gas. The company is owned by the husband, Daddy Nifemi.
Fortunately, when I printed my call-up letter, I was so surprised that I was posted to Rivers state. I was happy oo even though I wanted Abuja. Unfortunately, my uncle I was staying with was transferred to Abia state. He and his family moved to Abia while I began my PPA in Akuku-toru LGA. Even when I had stopped work at the business center, mummy and daddy Nifemi still keep intouch with me. Sometimes they do call me and I go to spend weekends in their house. At a time when am less busy, daddy Nifemi do take me along to work as his personal assistance (PA). He even takes me to oil rigs. After the outings, he would give me some money. They trusted me to the extent that I was part of the few they allow into their home and even stay with them. Sometimes I do leave Abonuma to Port Harcourt to bring back their kids from school. i help in supervising the cleaning of their homes. Sometimes they will give me money and some other times they won’t. I go just come back empty handed, but I didn’t care. My friends would laugh at me that am an errand boy. Dem go say na house boy and plate I dey wash for daddy Nifemi’s mansion.

One particular incident, I had withdrawn all my money and sent to my mom and siblings for upkeep and school. I barely had money on me. Daddy Nifemi invited me to their house for a paper work. I went and spent 3 days there and when I was coming back nothing was given to me. Even though I expected it but never saw, I was very broke. I managed to get to Abonuma to my friends laughing at me that my errand didn’t work that day. Dem say my errand for that day na in vein because I was not given money. Though I never complained because the Nifemis are trying so well for me. And I was doing everything for them from the bottom of my heart.
On the 5th of January 2016 after I had resumed to my PPA, daddy Nifemi called me that I should come to Port Harcourt immediately that he wants me to do something for him since corpers are yet to resume in their schools. Na so I go Port Harcourt. We went to an oil rig with his workers. After 2 days with him, when we got to his house in Port Harcourt. He said he has bought a new car to his fleets. He handed me the key to one his cars, a Honda EOD. He said I should take it, and the next day he would follow me to go and change ownership and paper works to my name. He also gave me an appointment letter that I have been automatically employed in his gas company. He said I should officially resume after my passing our parade (POP), but I will still be on salary for the remaining months of my service. He also gave me money for my project management program. I had once told him that I will be doing the course after my service. He gave me money and asked me to register immediately because I will use the knowledge in his company. I was so happy because I never expected it. One of the things he told me was that I am loyal and he had been watching me. He admired my approach to things.
Men and brethren, na so my life don change oooo. I am not telling this story to brag but to inspire us. I began to reminisce when I first met mummy Nifemi at my former working place. As she was ranting that day, what of if I had shouted at her? What of if I abused and chased her arrogantly from the shop? With her attitude, what of if I had treated her badly the way she did, she may not have returned back and I might not get to see her again. I might not have seen this kind of opportunity. I didn’t judge her from the attitude she portrayed that day, I still welcomed her the next day, which made us become close and now I am favoured. Now the errand boy has become the Oga. My life has changed. Na my friends wan start to run errand for me now.
