State creation is the single greatest threat to Nigeria's unity.
Since it was introduced, all hell broke loose and the center stopped to hold. If we don't reject state creation for the evil of its original intent, one day, the type of war that will happen in Nigeria will make Afghanistan look like child play.
Imagine Abia state with a city like Aba which was largely developed by Sam Mbakwe (an Imo son) waking up to sack Imo indigene workers
Anytime I pass through Aba, I always remember Mbakwe.
IMHO, Imo and Abia should NEVER have been separated for any reason. (I know some of my brothers from there will disagree but they are entitled to their opinion); same with Anambra and Enugu and Ebonyi.

Whatever we think we are losing though federal allocation, can be gained many times over through unity and pulling our resources together.

NO MORE STATES!  angry  cool

Imagine this type of thinking -"if current importers don't import, others will step in"; pray for how long has Lagos existed as a sea port? Did import duties become a major income earner for Nigeria until recently?
I bet you all that there are many industries in Nigeria TODAY still untapped (auto manufacturing for instance), which if tomorrow some Igbo dude by share grit and "Igbo spirit" makes it a major income earner for Nigeria, people like this guy will come to make the same deranged argument "if they don't do it, others will ,   blah blah".

Anambra state alone has more resources than the whole SW.

My personal theory is that more states leads to more dependence on Abuja handouts and less development.
I bet you that if SE was one state, the problem of electricity supply for instance would have been a thing of the past now.
The state would be big and strong enough to fund MAJOR projects.

All these states should be scrapped!
PoliticsRe: Don’t Create Unviable States –senator Oyofo by Onlytruth(op): 6:09am On Feb 23, 2012
We don't need any new states!

The existing states should be thoroughly scrutinized for viability and many of them MERGED.
My state Anambra is SELF SUFFICIENT. Nobody should balkanize it for any reason. We are fine!
The more they talk about this state creation thing, the angrier they make some of us.
I see it as an act of WAR.  angry
The evil of disunity exploded sponteneously after Gowon unleashed this wicked plot against Nigeria in 1967.
Nigeria has never recovered from it, and it has turned Nigeria into an evil crucible where disunity is cooking silently below the surface waiting to explode.

Don’t create unviable states –Senator Oyofo

From TAIWO AMODU, ABUJA
Thursday February 23, 2012

Former chief whip of the Senate, Senator Victor Kassim-Isa Oyofo has warned against proliferation of states in the country.

Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, last weekend alerted the nation that the agitation for new states across the country was increasing and had given the number as 45. But reacting to the development yesterday in Abuja, Senator Oyofo submitted that some of the existing states were finding it difficult to survive and warned against further creation of unviable states, which thrive only on revenue from the Federation Account.

“In addressing the internal architecture of the federation, we must do what is obvious. This means consolidating our gains and formalizing them into laws.

“It is clear that states have to be viable. A situation where a state is created to rely on the revenue share from the Federal Government, which in turn comes 85 percent from crude oil, is unviable and when deeply considered, a sin. It is a sin, because it inhibits the ability of the citizens to develop its potentials, which lie in the talents God bestowed on each of us.

Through the hands of General Sani Abacha, the idea of six geo-political zones arose. Today, we have three zones in the North and three zones in the South. This arrangement eliminated the fear of what was once called the hegemony of the North. However, the dominating criteria should be the viability of a unit.

“Its ability to be self sustaining.’’

On the raging controversy, surrounding the agitation for a sovereign national conference, Senator Oyofo aligned himself with the position of those, who insist that the national question could better be addressed by the national assembly.

“Some have argued for a new assembly called Sovereign National Conference and there are those who say the legislative arm can do this.

“It is true that the legislative arm can do this, if they can rise above petty interests and become statesmen. Already, they are talking of over 45 states, which is clear evidence that those who talk like this do not have the real development of their people at heart. They are thinking of sharing the oil money and their limited political ambition.

The responsibility should be with the Presidency, which can drive the concept to fulfillment. Such a president will remain towering above all others for all times.’’

^^^The problem is not with the Ndigbo that celebrated, who were civilians. The question is this; where the civilians part of the coup and killings? NO. When did killing civilians en mass during coup become part of military.

Again forget about who i quoted and the source of the exerpts, pray tell, those names Ojukwu mentioned were they part of the coup/revolution? Those that were killed including the Igbo soldier, was he killed or not?

Honestly, I wouldnt want to join issues with you because you see nothing wrong with the killings of over 30,000 innocent Ndigbo civilians. It goes further to explain why the trend is prevailent till date. I rest my case with you, cos I can deduce that the problem you have is that "Ojukwu said it" so that makes it wrong, but you have done nothing to prove that the names he mentioned did not participate. Your hausa masters have programmed you guys brains to see anything Ojukwu said as wrong, so it will always affect your judgement process
Frankly the bolded is why I stopped believing in the idea of a common nation between Igbo and Yoruba. I know for sure (at least judging by opinions here) that they would NEVER condemn the killing of 30,000 innocent Igbo and Eastern Nigerians in 1966. I have seen here on this site that even some Northern minorities have condemned that action; but not Yoruba. Now, I also know that they would not wish same on themselves for any reason, so I've concluded that only the purest form of wickedness and hate can produce such convictions. BTW Hausa did not program them to hate us like this. lol This is ingrained and even inbred.
That is why I laugh at those thinking that Nigeria will survive. Like I keep saying, Nigeria cannot survive and we Ndigbo don't have to push it over the edge. It was programmed to fail. cool

Oh, really? Is this how what Igbos are?. . .lmaol  500 thousand just left Kano on compulsory exile trip to east. Soo much of "loving" brothers,  . . .Pathetic

Small humor gist.
"Aminu, ko nawa ne a mota?" the driver asked.   "Aminu, How many are you left in the car?", enquired  the driver

Aminu replied"Mo goma ne da dan nyammiri daya".  "We are ten people with one Igbo man", replied the conductor

Igboman got angry and yelled at Aminu" Ya za kace ko goma ne da dan nyimmari daya, dan nyanmmir ba mutum ba?". How could you speak such " You are ten people left with an Igbo, Is Igboman not human being?"

The Igbos are viewed as different entities entirely due to thier tendency to cheat, lie and commit fraud in the face of small trust. This notion cut across all regions and tribes, as you would be overtly advised to trade carefully with Igbos when doing business.
You misunderstand. I lived in Kano too.
The anecdote likely means that the Hausa are in AWE of Igbo. The only tribe they FEAR in southern Nigeria.
The Ijaw is gradually entering same shoes as Igbo because of MEND.
Can anyone say that about you? Nope.
So, to rephrase it, "There are 10 goats in the car and ONE LION".  cool

Ji_sun_pack:
You are indeed the greatest fool here. Take a trip to any northern state as an Igbo woman and see whether they wont call you "Karuwa" or "Arniya" or "Kafira" or "Shegiya".

We share values with the northerners(though not ruling out inner sentiments from both side), they respect, treat and trade with us in an open minded manner, while you Igbos are not ever consider humans in a normal northern settings.

Can ANY Igbo man toast a typical Hausa girl or contemptlate marrying her?
Na who born the monkey wey Hausa man go gree him marry his daughter!

You guys are irritants and parasites seeking for relevance, little wonder why touts like Asari can make you have political orga.sm with few "motor park" chants.

"Kai ka yi hankali da dan nyimmarin nan, ka san su da sata", trade carefully with those Igbos owing to their dubious and cheating nature.

No sane person between north and south that can not attest to the cheating and decietful nature of Igbos which they termed as being "smart". Pathetic.
Why do you do this to yourself.
Everybody in Nigeria knows that speaking about marriage and husbands, the HOTTEST CATCH BY FAR is an Igbo man. I won't debate that with you because every Nigerian woman knows this. The reason you don't see much Igbo marrying Hausa or even any other tribe much is quite simple: Igbo men prefer to marry Igbo women for a whole number of reasons, ranging from hygeine(nobody beats Igbo woman in hygiene), to natural cuteness (nobody can touch Igbo women in these. FACT  cool ), to food types (Igbo man don't joke with Igbo foods), and of course we are mainly Christians. However, even at that, I can count quite a few Hausa women married to Igbo men in my village alone (not my town o). The one had 10 children for the husband, and their kids are my friends.

We are the golden tribe in Nigeria. Your jealousy will not change that. It may even kill you! lol  wink  cool

Despite this, cities like Awka, Onitsha, Owerre, Portharcourt, Aba, Abakaliki, Umuahia, Asaba, Nnewi and Agbor are still growing fast in importance and size.

It is very laughable for any Yoruba to call Igbo "slave" in Nigeria. I don't even want to go into who played what role in terms of presidential elections and politics.
History records that since the existence of Nigeria, that there was a WAR between the Igbo and the rest of the country, talkless of the North. History also records that Igbo have fought back on several occassion IN THE NORTH.
History also records that Yoruba have NEVER done either, even though they have suffered some of the worst humiliation in Nigeria, from the jailing of Awolowo, to the jailing of Obasanjo (who almost died in jail), to killing of Abiola and his wife, to the humiliation of Diya, Abachas second in command (notice that Ebitu Ukiwe simply resigned in dignity from IBB regime).

I have to admit that I don't know how close (culturally) we Ndigbo are to the Igalas. All I know is that even Ikwerre that is Igbo teamed up with some Ijaw elements in PH to steal our properties there (though I learnt they have returned most of it). That is why I said before that we really have two options: Invest only in Igboland, or invest in a place you can at least fight and defend your property. I have always told my Igbo brothers that the myth of land scarcity in Igboland is nothing more than a MYTH. We have ABUNDANT land in Igboland, from Abakaliki all the way to Agbor.
If any Igbo wants to be really secure in his land, there are only TWO ways to go about it.

(1) Stay within the boundaries of Igboland where there is abundance of land
or
(2) Go to any part of Nigeria to develop your properties ARMED TO THE TEETH and be prepared to fight and die there.

We must be realistic.

By the time we FULLY embrace these two options, I can assure you that either these types of offers would die a natural death, or we would NEVER AGAIN hear of "abandoned property" in any part of Nigeria.

Bros, I am not against any alliance as I have not spoken against it. In fact, I am for this alliance.

With that said, one thing I must point out is that Asari is a political thug. The idea of working on the emotions and sentiment of people to gain power is indeed silly. Notice that since I have started advocating for Southern Nigeria (any group that does not want to join SN can go their way, no wahala about that), I have never, not for once called any group a "parasite", "leeches" or what-not. That my friend, is the way to be civil and humble, and surely God gives grace to the humble (1 Peter 5:5). We produce oil (that will finish in less than 35 yrs time) does not mean we should demean the Northerners. The North has indeed tried for this Nation called Nigeria. Before Oil, we had Tin in Jos, groundnut, cotton etc. With that said, I love the coalition.
As for the SW, its should be their choice whether they want to join anyone or not. If they decide to join this coalition, fine; if not fine.

One thing I must point out though is according to the article, the union is purely based on political power not a "useful" common idea. As I always say, our unity should not be based on the hatred for the North or politics or whatever but on progress, education and development. That, Onlytruth, is what binds us. Every other thing is a fallacy. If its hatred; when the North goes we would look for another "parasite" to chase away until the last community that does not produce oil.
If its politics; that can change anytime. The Core-North, might field a MB candidate (possibly David mark) and support him with all their might to get the support of the MB and bring back the MB to the fold through Bello's respect policies. The SS might support a Northerner 2015 (you never know) and et.al.

Now, what is left for us (you and me)? Nothing! Bruv, I'll prefer credibility than all this. We need to elect a credible leader not an ethnic or regional leader. Asari's utterances is treasonable but as usual, in Nigeria, na my person. As we speak, a new MEND is forming. Why? because the issues have not been addressed. The old militants are feeding fat in Abuja while communities are still suffering but Internet propaganda is hiding all these things.

Until we start speaking the truth in things, there would be no head way.

Btw, notice when these sort of topics are out, not many, in fact, just one Niger-deltan comments. Hahaha. What happened to Ibime? Edo.girl? Kpogede? C'mon guys, think.

No amount of money is enough by Ndigbo to repay Ikemba for his boldness and courage to defend his kinsmen from blood thirsty Northerners and their cohorts in 1967.

I have read some silly postings on this thread where some conceited opinions tend to thwart history. Myths of a people and ingredients of heroism is garbed in relativism, thus I found it intellectually tasking that some people from a different ethnic background are at pains to convince Ndigbo on who should be their hero(s). If we have found heroism in the person of Ojukwu, why the whole fuss? Since you guys did not and will never live the Igbo experience, no amount of theory will ever negate the obvious: that Ojukwu is our hero.

The argument that he should not have gone to war knowing very well that he would loose is more of a yoruba trait than Igbo. If today the hausa/yoruba conduct another genocide against Ndigbo, we shall do the same things again, defend ourselves even at the risk of loosing. I know this may be difficult for some of our sw brothers to fully grasp. Ojukwu knew when to quit the war stage after a meeting with the elders in Igboland - that also is an act of heroism
Dalu nwanne

I don't think that they would ever understand. lol

If they lock that thread, they should also lock this one

Stop being a hypocrite.

Selective locking of threads is driving away quality Igbo posters from this site.
