I forgot to say that only ICC can address your suit well. Nigerian courts will sweep it under the carpet.
So, straight to ICC. If your suit fails, the next guy or the guy after that . . . will succeed. cool

Take Enugu for instance. I believe that all areas around Ogui and Obiagu should eventually be densified. I don't think that old bungalows should still be found at the Enugu city core which these areas represent.

Along Ogui road and Okpara Avenue all the way to New Haven should be systematically densified.

If done well, these areas can accommodate all current Enugu population. The Independence layout and Trans-Ekulu phase two should keep expanding, but planned to include tourist things like top class resorts and hotels, and corporate business offices. The rest of the Hills should be designed to be breath taking.

Nna menh, we need to unleash our creativity on our lands. It has been abandoned for too long and our people are dying in northern Nigeria for nothing.

About the idea of going for new towns instead of expanding old ones, it is just to create a sense of "new-ness", and give impetus to Igbos living in the north to return. Let's remember that the thread is also about wooing them back home.

Of course Igbos in other parts of Nigeria who are secure in their locations don't need to bother about coming back home.

So, yes, expanding old towns is good too, provided they are planned, renewed and with increased density at the core, because the last thing we need is a sprawling old city: Old, unplanned and decayed at the core; new at the suburbs. It is like putting old wine in new bottle. grin

@Amaka,

I addressed your concern about local opposition to the plan by pointing out a major provision of the Nigerian Land Use Act which vests land on the governor of a state. That law is similar to the US Eminent Domain law; a landed property can be "taken" by the (in Nigeria -state governor; in US - local/city ) for public use. The difference is that in US, the land must be paid for, while in Nigeria, if it is undeveloped (no building or farm) it can be taken without compensation/payment.

So, the native community cannot stop the governor. Simple.
Unless I'm missing something.

@PapaBrowne

My respect for you just tripled.

This is a great idea and you have the support of all well meaning Nigerians who want to put a final stop to mass murder in Nigeria. Please start to organize that facebook movement and post link here so that I can forward it to my contacts all over the world.
Like the saying goes; the only reason evil thrives is that good men do nothing.

I have to warn you that you may not succeed in the final aim of putting the mass murder candidate behind bars this time, but believe me, you have started something that is far bigger than the rest of us. If this thing gains momentum, it would solve a whole lot of similar problems all over Africa.

Kudos to you man!  cool

This e-goat sef. undecided

Before this election, he was one of the mor-ons running around here trying to put something on top of nothing, trying to tell us that black is actually white and vice versa.

We rejected him and his fanatical candidate flatly, which is why they both lost.

Now he is here trying to twist his demented imagination out of shape.

Simple fact remains that even now that northerners killed southerners in the north, there is still no mass murder in the south. Or does anyone believe that we don't know how to wait out security forces and kill in the night hours?

OP should be feeding on grass. cool

Anyway, not to derail the thread with talk about state creation, this idea is aimed at doing something to forestall mass Igbo migration to hostile parts of Nigeria.

It will also solve other problems like job creation for our graduating youths. All these must happen outside the control of the federal government of Nigeria, else they would kill it like they killed Tinapa.

All it takes is leadership, and I pray that such will emerge after the elections.

@KnowAll,

I also believe that the only state Ndigbo need right now is Anioma state which MUST be joined to SE zone.
For us, it is about balance of power at the center. If we get Anioma state and join it to SE zone, Igbo voice will be heard loud and clear at the center.

And we can plan our cities together too. cool

I would like to believe that the map Amaka posted was obtained by asking about state of origin. So, in essence, it already includes Igbos living in other parts of Nigeria.

I know for a fact that each state in SE can create several new towns.
I deliberately stated at the opening post that the new towns should be located within short distances of existing business towns in order to survive. Ultimately, with good planning, we can network the towns together through modern transportation planning. So, they don't necessarily have to be near existing towns.
All they need is anchor business, eg a modern international standard university hospital can create a new town on its own.
Like someone already stated, existing towns like Enugu can accommodate about 5 times its current population.
The new towns are for innovation and modernity. These would attract skilled work force and corporate businesses.

@ekt-bear,

If it makes you feel better, we have more oil and gas in Igboland than most African countries. Why I don't emphasize it is because the federal government will become involved once you start talking about minerals.
We will do this on pure HUMAN capital. cool
PoliticsRe: SE Governors Should Map Out And Plan New Towns Now by Onlytruth(op): 6:22am On Apr 22, 2011
@ekt-bear,

The economy of any place depends on HUMAN BEINGS not oil or natural resources. Though Igboland is rich in oil and gas. Anambra state alone has 3 trillion cubic feet of gas.

The economy will revolve around manufacturing. We will establish industries there, but the first to spring up will be commerce.
First, commerce, which will attract banks, which will attract corporate businesses, which will attract skilled labor, and tech outfits, health care outfits, research institutes, etc.
PoliticsRe: SE Governors Should Map Out And Plan New Towns Now by Onlytruth(op): 5:53am On Apr 22, 2011
@Amaka,

The plan will  use near vacant lands, and there are plenty of such in Igboland. I've seen them personally in Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Abia, Ebonyi and parts of Delta north.

The Land Use Act vests land on the governors. So, they can "take" lands without paying compensation to communities, provided such lands are not developed, and are for public good.

So, your fears are taken into consideration.
PoliticsRe: SE Governors Should Map Out And Plan New Towns Now by Onlytruth(op): 5:42am On Apr 22, 2011
tpiah,

Yes it occurred to me that some Igbos like to live among other groups, but they are not safe in the north. 80 years or so of history has proven that the north is not safe for them. They can move south. If they don't move then, they will be on their own.

My plan is also aimed at defeating this lie that Igboland is congested. It is NOT. By a looooooong shot.

The plan will create a new economic zone that can grow and create opportunities for peaceful southerners.

@Amaka,

I am from Anambra state, but my soul dwells in EVERY inch of Igboland. I would rather serve as one of future Igbo leaders (even as a gate man sef cool) than bother with my state leadership. I have philosophical, and cultural convictions about Igbo destiny. cool
