@Alj harem,

This is where we part ways. cool

What you are proposing is what we've had for 12 years in Igboland, and has led to us being relegated to the backseat of Nigerian politics.
You cannot be a jack of all trades and master of none.
We need a party that originates from Igboland, founded on our own set of values, and build that party into a national party.

We cannot continue with our past, though I suspect that would serve YOUR interest of keeping us in chains.  undecided
Ain't happening.  cool cool

Alj harem,

You make sense with your points. However, I believe that APGA should be scrapped, or taken away from Peter Obi.

I believe that APGA has become an obstacle to our aspirations. They dashed a lot of hopes in this elections.

I hate spoilers. If APGA cannot raise its game, it should be scrapped immediately.

If they did, why is APGA keeping quiet?

There is nothing to "come back to my senses" for. I have always supported ONLY JONATHAN, not PDP.
In fact part of why I support Jonathan is because I thought that Peter Obi wanted to ensure that PDP does not rig elections in Igboland. Well, they apparently didn't (I have not found any evidence that they did).
But Peter Obi sold APGA. That changes everything.
APGA is the most popular party in Igboland. So, if the party failed to win, it can only mean that APGA failed to field and sponsor better candidates. And I say deliberately. angry
PoliticsRe: Yorubas Liberated, Igbos Still In Bondage by Onlytruth(m): 10:39pm On Apr 11, 2011
I know that some folks will like us to believe that PDP rigged elections in SE. I don't believe that.  It is only that
People just voted the best they could find. APGA did not provide better alternatives.
My concern is that PDP is a tower of babel, serving only the personal interests of elected officials.

The duty of parties like APGA and ACN is to woo away good materials from PDP, or present better materials to contest against PDP candidates. ACN delivered in the SW (some say by hook or crook), APGA failed to deliver in SE.
Bottomline, we are back to where Ekweremadu will remain the selfish lame-duck deputy whatever-the -hell- he-has-been.

The highest Igbo in government is a houseboy to the senate president. Pathetic.
So, if Jonathan for some reason fails to deliver on his promise to us, we have no one at the national assembly to speak out.

I supported Jonathan on the basis that APGA would perform well in the parliamentary elections. If Peter Obi sold everything to PDP, then, he should scrap APGA and join PDP.

I have always said that "Igbo enwe eze" is the greatest undoing of the Igbo nation. I don't buy it. I'm not proud of it. It is a bad culture, just like the killing of twins. IT HAS TO GO. cool That is if we are serious about surviving in Nigeria.
I believe that Ojukwu realized this problem and decided to take on the title of Eze Ndigbo gburu gburu.

The Igbo man must understand and accept that there is something greater than himself, and that thing is GROUP interest. cool

Selfishness caused a situation whereby Ngige (an Igbo political asset) stayed in ACN (where he feels he could get an easy ticket) than move to APGA to help build it up. The same thing (easy ticket) motivates ALL our politicians. Sometimes, the party that offers you easy ticket MAY NOT offer group interest. undecided

As for the APGA debacle, all blames should go to Peter Obi and Victor Umeh. angry

They were both on ego trip, forgetting that APGA should be fielding the best candidates in the whole East and supporting them with resources to win. They are probably scared of attracting better politicians (like Ngige, Chime and others) who could threaten their positions in APGA. That is why no other SE governor has joined APGA. That much became clear when Chime stayed put in PDP despite his troubles there.

Until we (Igbo) understand that today's individual gain could mean tomorrow's group loss, we will continue to be hewers of wood and drawers of water on the Nigeria political stage. cry

APGA under Peter Obi is blocking the way for us.
Obi should take his APGA into PDP, that way, we know that we are back in 1999. That would make way for another party to emerge and to speak for us (Ndigbo) in subsequent elections.
PoliticsRe: APGA Should Be Scrapped by Onlytruth(op): 8:24am On Apr 11, 2011
^^

So, what is the proportion of each party in SW?
Isn't it like 80% ACN, 20% others?
We clearly know which party would speak for SW.

Which party will speak for Ndigbo at the national assembly?
PDP?

I hope you see the fallacy of your position.
PoliticsRe: APGA Should Be Scrapped by Onlytruth(op): 7:58am On Apr 11, 2011
Thanks a million dayokanu.

I'm truly saddened by what is happening.

I started suspecting since last year that something was wrong with APGA. I became more convinced when people like Uche Chukwumerije could not join APGA after his debacle at PPA. Same with Sullivan Chime of Enugu state.
This election finally confirmed my fears.

Not to worry, we will advocate for a NEW party.  cool

Your points are all spot on.  cool cool

@Metalgoong

What is "Iru abua" about voting APGA locally and voting GEJ nationally?
Simple enough to me. undecided

I lay out the facts the way they are.

Since APGA has failed to deliver victory to APGA representative candidates, contrary to what Obi and Umeh promised before this election, it should be scrapped. They should all join PDP now.

Igbo individualism is one of our greatest undoing as a people. Truly sad.

I hope to personally help to build a new party (on the ashes of APGA) to speak for us by 2015.  cool
PoliticsRe: APGA Should Be Scrapped by Onlytruth(op): 7:33am On Apr 11, 2011
For us to have a voice at the center, APGA should merge with PDP immediately, and even if Ngige wins, he would be our eyes and ears in ACN.
For now, since PDP has won majority of representative positions in SE, APGA should be scrapped immediately.

Maybe one day, when some of us become old enough and gather enough clout, we can then revisit the APGA idea.
For now, it has failed. cool
PoliticsAPGA Should Be Scrapped by Onlytruth(op): 7:28am On Apr 11, 2011
The electoral results from the legislative elections has finally proven that APGA has been hijacked by lame politicians in Igboland.

Before this election, APGA Chairman Victor Umeh was boasting that APGA will capture the whole SE.
Well, as things stand now, APGA may not even capture Anambra State, and has already lost Enugu, Abia, Ebonyi , parts of Imo and Anambra states.

In what is emerging a show of shame, APGA's Dora Akunyili, a nationally acknowledged amazon, is fighting for her political life with a self centered and individualistic Ngige, with all kinds of allegations flying around.

SE has largely been captured by PDP. Some of us support only GEJ for presidential elections, but hoped that APGA could win local representative elections to enable us have a voice at the center; but alas that is not what is happening. We are losing the entire SE to PDP.

I don't have much grudge against PDP (especially the reformed PDP), but APGA should be scrapped if SE is a PDP zone.

We should then accept whatever ignominious political appointment we get from the PDP government ( as we've done in the past 12 years), and shut up.

I don't want to hear any one complain tomorrow about supposed Igbo marginalization in Nigeria.

So, Peter Obi should join PDP immediately, along with all APGA politicians.

I hate confusion, and what is emerging in Igboland now is total confusion.

One party should take charge and represent us well at the center. For now, PDP is that party.
PoliticsRe: Anambra central senatorial Election: Dora Akunyili (APGA) vs Chris Ngige of ACN by Onlytruth(m): 7:13am On Apr 11, 2011
I'm really amazed that a Yoruba guy like dayokanu is sympathetic to us and is really trying to teach some Igbo fools a simple political lesson by explaining the foolishness of dumping APGA.

Like I said before, I'm really angry at Peter Obi and Victor Umeh for this show of shame.
APGA should be winning the entire eastern Nigeria fair and square. Instead, they are scratching for straw.

Ndigbo have a looooooooooooooooooooooooooog way to go to survive the murky waters of Nigerian politics.
This unbridled individualism will certainly lead to our political death in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, I will advocate for the scrapping of APGA. cool
PoliticsRe: Anambra central senatorial Election: Dora Akunyili (APGA) vs Chris Ngige of ACN by Onlytruth(m): 11:20pm On Apr 10, 2011
The more I think about it, the more I suspect that there may actually be a hidden agenda by Peter Obi to kill APGA and replace it with PDP.
I don't see how else PDP could be winning in Anambra despite their disunity and fielding of multiple candidates.
It can also explain why APGA never won anything outside of Anambra so far.

I hope these PDP people have a plan for us.
PoliticsRe: Anambra central senatorial Election: Dora Akunyili (APGA) vs Chris Ngige of ACN by Onlytruth(m): 11:07pm On Apr 10, 2011

Well, first of all we must salute ACN for their savvy political strategies and tactics which have paid off for them in this election climate. Their political calculations paid off for them big time. For them to make inroads into the East signifies the failure of APGA to replicate what ACN did in the SW, in the SE. I've watched carefully, the gradual widening misdirection of APGA since 2009 but never expected it to be a failure on this scale.

First of all, it looks like they're a confused party with no sense and articulation of ideas for expansion beyond ethnic borders. Even within the SE, they couldn't win votes. What an abysmal shame. Just look at CPC - just formed last year, already winning elections. The whole APGA thing has been a
fraud to say the least.

It was really disheartening to see Peter Obi running around against Ngige (on behalf of Dora) where ordinarily, APGA should by now, have established themselves within the SE with major inroads into the SS. The South-South, by now, should be part and parcel of APGA - if Ojukwu, Obi and Umeh knew what they were doing.

I look up to the sky and I see nothing but circling vultures who have finally come from far but familiar lands, to feast on the carcass of my beloved but politically disintegrated South East.

Oh Akanu Ibiam, Okpara, Mbadiwe, Wachuku, Osadebey, rescue your children for their custodians have lost control of the steering wheel.
I cannot fault much of your comment except the Ojukwu part, mainly because the man had been out of his top game since after the 2010 gubernatorial elections. He had no influence how APGA turned out in this election. Take that blame to Obi and Umeh.

I will blame Peter Obi for APGA's misfortune if any. I would also blame the unbridled individualism of our people for this show of shame.
I have been shouting myself hoarse about this Igbo problem. If Ngige thought above his personal political gains, he would not be in ACN today. He went there because there was a ready ticket for him. Same with all the guys in PDP.

Without a dogged Igbo political leader, this trend will continue until we become irrelevant completely in Nigerian politics.

I'm still licking my wounds from the Enugu, Abia and Ebonyi which went to PDP.
There is chaos in Igboland politically now. This election was an opportunity missed. cry

PoliticsRe: Anambra central senatorial Election: Dora Akunyili (APGA) vs Chris Ngige of ACN by Onlytruth(m): 5:02pm On Apr 10, 2011
I have a hunch that this election is not over until we hear from INEC.

I have said it that Peter Obi has a PERSONAL interest in this election, and he and Dora come from the most populous LGA in this zone. So, lets wait.

All these Yoruba folks trying to shout us down have not explained why ONLY ACN is doing well in SW.
You could never convince a smart guy that other parties lack credible candidates.

I also said somewhere that Ngige (if he wins) will get to the national assembly to find out that he will not be given any leadership post, afterall he is from SE. Then states with majority ACN (SW states of course) will grab all the juicy posts, leaving Ngige with an empty bag. At that point, his victory will become our defeat, his gain then becomes our loss . cry

That is why this election goes far beyond personal achievements and personalities. You have to be able to represent your zone very well at the national assembly. I don' t see how Ngige can effectively do that in ACN. He will suffer from the same disease of negligence by those in PDP.

Someone should please launch a MASSIVE political education in Igboland. We appear the worst political illiterates!
PoliticsRe: Chris Ngige For Senate President by Onlytruth(m): 9:19am On Apr 10, 2011
Ngige will likely be a door mat in the Senate if he wins under ACN. I don't see Yorubas ceding leadership positions in the ACN national assembly caucus to him. That is when Ngige will learn a political lesson. His victory might actually become our (Igbo and Anambra) loss. I doubt he foresaw this. I often marvel at the political illiteracy of some top Igbo politicians.
See how ACN is sweeping SW, while APGA is struggling in SE.

I have never supported Ngige's moving to ACN. cool

Still waiting to be proved wrong.
PoliticsRe: Chris Ngige Wins Anambra Central Senatorial District Ahead Of Dora Akunyili by Onlytruth(m): 8:47am On Apr 10, 2011
He didn't win because he was contesting in the whole state.
Anambra is not an ACN state. FACT.

He MAY win this time because he is popular more in his home senatorial zone.

However, until I see the FINAL results, let's not jump the gun yet.

Peter Obi's relevance as the APGA de facto leader is on the line.
PoliticsRe: Anambra central senatorial Election: Dora Akunyili (APGA) vs Chris Ngige of ACN by Onlytruth(m): 3:08am On Apr 10, 2011
Ngige won this time because he competed on his HOME turf. Even in 2010 gubernatorial election, he beat Obi there too.

So, let's not get carried away. Anambra has some titans. And Akunyili is not Obi.
