Anambra has always been a very unlucky state.

Obi is now the best they've ever produced.  embarassed

Continue langushing in your mediocrity.

Do you know how many Anambranians lodge and now live at Asaba because of the state of Anambra state?

This is the kind of thing you will never see in Yorubaland.
You dont get governors of Obis acheivements being generally lauded by a sizable number of people.
This is not to say that they do not exist there.

WHAT A SHAME !!
To think there was a time I thought you were a normal person! You had to show the Yoruba in you. undecided

First, you wanted to sow a seed of discord between the south east and south south, using a non-existent political rivalry over a stup'id presidential bid. You failed woefully because I called you out on that.
Now you are lamenting (duplicitously) that Obi is the best Anambra has to offer, as if it concerns you! What a character! Mind you, all your brothers have exhibited the same dubious character over and over again and I pity anyone who still think you guys are normal cry
Anytime something positive is going on in Igboland, you guys develop heart attack! Na wa o! I never knew hate can be this powerful.
Ndgibo have a lot to learn about hate to survive in Nigeria.  But, we are learning.

Obi is NOT THE BEST we have to offer, but we produced him IN PEACE not in assassinations. Something you animals can never achieve! cool

I've always spoken truthfully if you pay attention to what I write. The fact that my perspective may be different attimes does not mean that the relevant statement is a lie.  If I make a factual error and I'm corrected, I will stand corrected.

I still maintain that an interest group consisting of all Nigerians in the USA will be more effective than that consisting of one tribe, all things being equal. Standing up as one (Nigerian) will get you more clout in the USA than what you are indirectly promoting.
There is no "Nigerian" language out there. This is part of the idiotic mistakes of our founding fathers. They should have thought of that before lobbing us into this contraption of nationhood. If we wanted to be a nation, we should have adopted one African language, I don't care if it is Swahili. What we have is a situation where we have English as official language in Nigeria, but we don't speak it well enough to qualify as first language. It is a second language in practical terms. So we end up cheating ourselves. Numbers is not always the only advantage, sometimes it can even be a disadvantage. I better be well represented as a tiny minority, than not represented at all as a huge minority.

This suggestion is in the best interest of Igbo residents in the USA for obvious reasons. It is also legitimate because according to the census bureau, people may have chosen to provide two or more races either by checking two or more race response check boxes, by providing multiple write-in responses, or by some combination of check boxes and write-in responses.
Thank you for the above. This is the second time you've said the truth while commenting on my thread. tongue tongue

However, one would have thought a campaign to write-in "Nigerian" as a race would have served us better in the long run. Numbers matter.
Ol'boy you don start again o.
We are talking of the US census here. I don't know whether you've been to the US before, but information is GOLDEN here for planning. This census happens every 10 years. A Vietnamese goes to the hospital and gets attended to by nurses who speak Vietnamese. Why not speak french to them? Meanwhile they may even be less in number than Ndigbo. Nigeria is not even classified as one of the "English speaking countries" of note per se. In Africa, only South Africa qualifies for that in exams where English as first language is considered. English is a SECOND Language among Nigerians though the official language.
This is about proper representation in public administration. If you stand up, you will be counted in the US. That is why the announcer called it an "Onye kwe chi ya ekwe" moment.

Your post is misleading.
You can check multiple boxes in question #9 only if you are multi-racial (i.e. have parents from different races). Being Igbo and 'Black, African American, or Negro' does not qualify, as the former is a subset of the latter. If you feel so strongly that 'Igbo' should be recognized as a race, please feel free to check 'other' and fill in the text,  but asking people to check both boxes will only make them appear as semi illiterates who dont know the definition of 'race'.
If you must know, people actually asked questions from the census bureau and were instructed as posted. I don't know why Nigerians are so malicious. Why not do as you are advising here? Go ahead and take your own advise (if you are in the US), else leave us alone.

The aim is for Igbo to be recognized as a minority group. Leave the race definitions alone 'cos you ain't gonna win that argument.
Africa is comprised of so many races, and it is evidenced in the DNA roots found in Africa which is more than in any other continents of the world. Yes, there are races in Africa and most of them are black, yet distinct.

If there are 2 million Igbos in the US, the US government would like to have that information for planning purposes. This is a country that believes in getting detailed information, not Nigeria that is scared of information.

The main cat is out of the bag. Nigeria has to address this issue. The international carpet is too large for Nigeria to sweep things under. The wind has blown and everybody in the international community has seen Nigeria's fowl a's's. Recalling an ambassador is akin to self delusion of international proportions. If you can follow my logic, I am congratulating the "system" that produced him. What good is a governor if he is dead before he even contests elections? huh This peaceful system was denied us under Obasanjo who tried everything under his power to impose thieves and thugs on Anambra state to justice his plans of painting all Nigerians with one brush.

This is part of why I never buy the idiotic notion that all Nigerians are guilty of the same thing. No we are NOT!
Obi won elections; he may not be the best to win (though no one is sure of others); he won fairly and the state is peacefully moving on. That is enough for me. When he starts carrying out his second term agenda, then we can take stock and see whether the people made a mistake.

PoliticsRe: Gov Peter Obi Sworn In For Second Term In Awka Anambra State by Onlytruth(op): 6:35pm On Mar 18, 2010
What people said at Obi’s inauguration

Dame Virgy Etiaba, immediate past deputy governor of Anambra State. Yesterday the 17th day of March 2010 marked a new dawn in the political development of Anambra State. A new and rejuvenated APGA team had been sworn in to once again pilot the affairs of our state. Anambrarians should be proud that a once politically unstable state seems to be finding its feet in Nigeria’s new democratic culture.

Our journey has been very chequered and long winded and today’s event marks a remarkable advancement in that journey and while congratulating our re elected Governor and new Deputy Governor, I extend the same sentiment to our party [APGA], our Leader Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, all the other political gladiators in our state and most of all, the Good People of Anambra State, for all efforts in actualising our dreams.

I came into office in March 2006 under a politically charged environment and today, I go back to Madubugwu Villa, Inyaba, Umudim, Nnewi under a more stable political climate. I do so with a great deal of satisfaction that I came, saw and did my best towards the upliftment of our people, especially during a turbulent and traumatic period for our state. It has really been a roller coaster ride of an experience for which I will always remain grateful to The Lord that I did not betray the trust reposed in me by our people.

I call for support for their Excellencies Mr. Peter Obi and Mr. Emeka Sibudu as they will need and do indeed deserve our full support and cooperation. Dr. Chukwuemeka Ezeife, first Executive Governor of the State
You can see it, Anambra people have turned out en masse, what are we celebrating? We are celebrating the return of Anambra to its old glory. We are celebrating peace, the verdict of progress; we are talking as one people, no longer divided, no longer burning down the edifices of government. Today is a new day in Anambra State.

We prayed for it, we worked for it, we made all kinds of sacrifices for it and God answered prayers, God has answered our prayers. On those still challenging the outcome of the election he said, “What we are celebrating is the return of peace, its not absence of the tribunal. Anybody can go to court, for example, I didn’t vote, no Ezeife voted.

“The election was not credible in the sense of disenfranchisement of people but what was voted was counted and there was no violence, at least not much. So, we are celebrating that positive aspect of it.
“We don’t foul anybody for going to look for justice anywhere, but it doesn’t appear that there is any case that has merit.

“I want to advise Obi to face his manifesto and to borrow from other manifestoes, collect all the other manifestoes and see what loopholes they can pick up from the other people’s manifestoes and try to make peace, so that Anambra will now come back as a peaceful state.

Chief Victor Umeh, National Chairman of APGA
“This is the first time a credible election took place in the state and the result declared after the election was a true reflection of the votes of the people, so this victory is a uniting victory, it is a unity victory. The PDP you can see them, they are all over the place, they are happy, they said, this man won.
“The only way to have peace in a state where you conduct election credibly, transparently, if the winner emerges, everybody will congratulate the winner. So what the other parties are doing here today is very good for democracy.

“What they are doing is that they are now saying that in a credible election, one person will win and if that person wins, people should unite with him to serve the people. So, it is a very good signal coming out today and I’m very happy about it.

Senator Joy Emordi, Senator representing Anambra North senatorial Zone
What will I say but to say that Anambra State made history today by having an elected governor being re-elected in a free and fair election. So, this is a day for solemn and sober reflection for the Governor, Mr. Peter Obi and the people of Anambra State who elected him, to join hand together to ensure that we move Anambra State forward.

Again, I call on the Governor to exhibit his usual magnanimity to bring all the interest groups together to work together and push the state forward.

Hon. Vitalis Okafor, representing Ihiala federal constituency in House of Representatives
I feel alright, once a Governor emerges, you must give support to the Governor so that he will do his best to the state, so I’m very happy.

I however advice the Governor to accommodate all shades of opinion, sieve and take the one that will help in building Anambra State.

It is unfortunate that groups with lesser population have obtained better representation and public service than us. Obi was not my candidate, Ngige was. But, I am not in Anambra state right now and may not know the present state of things. The fact remains that even PDP governors (with the exception of Soludo supporters for obvious reasons) and other parties are saying that Obi won, and have tried to identify with his victory.

Obi's biggest achievement is his ability to be above reproach when it comes to prudence and accountability -two attributes Igbos love in leadership; he trumps others in the south east. He says he is laying a foundation of prudence in Anambra state, that is a HUGE achievement which will pay off big time in the future.

Nigerians have this fire brigade mindset, I'm only happy that Anambra people are still as wise as ever!

I don't understand how anybody will conclude that because a candidate was voted in one state then he has better records than every other state Governor in South East?

Everybody knows that what won Obi this election is not his records in office but cynical electoral tactics. he did not even run on his records of achievement.
But I don't want to go there because elections are over and its time to move on.

But what I wont accept is the conclusion that because Peter Obi was elected in Anambra then he is the best Governor in SouthEast.
I don't understand the premise of that logic.
I concur. The person that first made that remark (adigun101) was being mischievous, trying to sow discord between South east and south south. It came from virtually no where. He was jealous of what we are celebrating- which is politics of peace and unity, instead of politics of do or die, assassinations, militants and war. This is the real thing to celebrate, not any governor.

No Nigerian state can celebrate development yet because we still don't have some basic things: security, electricity and peace. In Anambra, we have started well with peace, other things will follow soon. Based on that I can say that if states are allowed to have their own police and electric companies that Anambra will do well. A peaceful and civilized state can achieve anything.

In his inaugural speech, Obi said he was laying foundation for the next governor. Foundation of prudence in government. That is all he needs to achieve. Nigeria is deeply rotten and the road ahead is still far. But, with our brand of politics in Anambra state, there is hope. cool

The outgoing deputy governor had only praises and good things to say about this governor and the state. PDP governors of the south east have all identified with his popular victory too, even the known thugs among them. Anambra state is making a statement - a very powerful statement indeed. We are saying that we are THE LIGHT OF THE NATION. Nothing more.

Anambra: Obi, Sibeudu sworn in as gov, deputy

All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate, Mr Peter Obi and his running mate, Engr. Emeka Sibeudu, in the February 6 gubernatorial election conducted in Anambra State, were yesterday sworn in as governor and deputy governor respectively by Justice Paul Obidigwe, Chief Judge of Anambra State, at a crowded ceremony organised at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.

Obi was declared winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) after the February 6, gubernatorial election, having polled a total of 97,843 votes as against Action Congress, Dr. Chris Ngige’s 60,240 votes, which put him at a distant second position. A total of 1.8 million voters were registered by INEC for the election.

In his goodwill message at the inauguration ceremony, Acting President, Goodluck Jonathan, said that he was happy to be part of the unique and historic occasion which was the outcome of a remarkable electioneering process in the annals of the country’s democratic process.
“I wish to most heartily congratulate Your Excellency for this remarkable victory at the polls and commend your abiding faith in our constitutional democracy.
“It is our fervent prayer that the Almighty God will continue to sustain the peace and progress that has characterised governance in Anambra State under your charge,” Jonathan said.

The acting president, who was represented at the occasion by the Governor of Abia State, Chief Theodore Orji said he was delighted to have been invited to the occasion just as he wished Obi well as he began his second term in office.
Also speaking, the Senate President, David Mark, noted that the peaceful manner in which the Anambra election was conducted was commendable, saying that the exercise was a good signal that the next general elections in 2011 would turn out to be even more transparent, peaceful and efficient.
“Your re-election justified the confidence of the people of Anambra State in you; this, no doubt, was based on your astute performance and commitment to the upliftment of the basic welfare of the entire people during your first tenure,” he said.

Mark, who was represented at the occasion by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Education, Senator Joy Emordi, advised Obi to keep up the good work he was doing in the state, saying that this was important in order to advance and consolidate on the successful record of his performance.
He urged him to continue to operate an inclusive mandate that would take cognisance of the views and expectations of all stakeholders.
Mark added that he was certain that Obi would work even harder to break new grounds in the interest of all Anambrarians, their happiness and overall development.

Governor Obi, in his inaugural speech after the swearing-in ceremony, thanked the people of Anambra State for the great trust, overwhelming support and solidarity they gave to him at the polls, hoping that they would remain available as they continue in the great task of building the state.
“My dear Ndi Anambra, today belongs to all of us. Today, with my swearing-in as the first governor produced through a staggered election, history has been made in Nigeria. This, in truth, is one of the ingredients of true federalism. Today’s celebration is memorable because, contrary to the predictions of pessimists that the February 6 election would be marred by a break-down of law and order, it ended up very peacefully, for which we remain thankful to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the security agencies, bodies and observer-groups that contributed in various ways to the success of the election.

“The election has, therefore, confirmed our abilities, in spite of all shortcomings, to do things in a civilized and peaceful way. This sacrifice by the people of Anambra State in ensuring a peaceful and exemplary election has proved that we are, indeed, the light of the nation.”
Obi reminded the people that the journey of his administration, right from his first tenure till now had been historic and chequered.
His words: “It was one mingled with hope and despair. When you recall our three years of legal battles in the courts, the impeachment saga and attempted tenure abridgement, which eventually led to the Supreme Court of Nigeria’s interpretation of the tenure of the governor, you will appreciate the trials we passed through. God, in His Infinite mercy, through the judiciary, has always seen us through.
“Notwithstanding the above constraints, we began the simultaneous rebuilding of all sectors of the state’s economy with the vision of achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by the year 2015, working through our delivery strategy of Anambra Integrated Development Strategy (ANIDS). As we look back today, there is no sector or community in the state that has not benefited from this government in one area of development or another, be it in the area of healthcare delivery or education or urban development or control of erosion or reconstruction of roads or sports, among others.”

The governor pointed out that looking around the state shows that challenges still abound which made him to add that in “this second tenure, the journey will be tough.”
He, however, assured them that “while we may not solve all the problems overnight or achieve 100 per cent result, we shall continue to put in 100 per cent effort,” adding that they would continue to lead a government that is accountable to all.
