Jobs/Vacancies / Re: PART TIME EMPLOYMENT FOR STUDENTS IN HIGHER INSTITUTIONS (2.5K – 5K PER WEEK) by ONNYX: 12:58am On Jan 08, 2021 |
I typically do not respond to naysayers, time wasters and scam prone individuals especially in an anonymous platform such as this one. However I am obligated this time for the sake of posterity to bring about a certain degree of clarification here. On the strength of the above I would like to emphasize that this is a legitimate project that has already taken place in several schools already. This is however the first time that I am soliciting of participants from this forum. There is no request for payment of any sort. In the course of the entire activity you will not be called upon to make any registration, subscription or indeed any other payment. Its a simple model; We identify, screen and approve your eligibility and appoint you as an ambassador. You undergo a free remote training (usually via Whatsapp) You are guided through a practical session. If the model suits you and we are satisfied with your performance at this stage we swing into action that will ensure you earn as advertised. Again, no scam here. Just a genuine process aimed at adding a little extra income to the pockets of serious and business minded undergraduates. |

ONNYX: Please read the quoted text which appears earlier on this thread. So the very first step in starting out as a bread merchant is to conduct a comprehensive survey of the locality with a view to unveiling the fastest selling bread size/type in that market. This could be attained using a number of measures but the one that I would advise is through striking some chord with the retailer such that he is open to provide this information for you in sincere terms. The target here should be thefolllowing; 1. Mallam/Aboki Gate house shops, 2. The regular provisions shops ....... and of course 3. The smaller to medium sized supermarkets in your neighbourhood. The result of this survey is what will help you in deciding objectively where to start from and what type of bread to start out with. Comments and questions please before we move to Step Two. 1 Like |

Wow! Its been quite an age. I've not been able to post on Nairaland for several months now owing to a very tight schedule. The events of the year 2020 has however propelled me to once again make a little contribution to those interested in the food and beverages segment of the economy. This will be done by reviewing and updating this thread for those interested in starting or expanding their foray into the bread distribution business. I will also attempt to update my other threads regarding the bakery business. I hope you guys read and follow the thread to keep it as exciting and as productive as may be required. |

savysu: You really need to re-work the prices you advertised. It is obvious that you are completely oblivious of prices of new equipment in the market. You are advertising a 3 deck/ trays oven for 600,000.00? That is preposterous. A brand new oven of similar capacity will be acquired at that very price. As a matter of fact with an additional 100k you will get a 9 trays oven if you know how to deal in Alaba Int. Note that my intention is not to rain on your parade but to show you how you can quickly offload this equipment. You may wish to consider my advice which is truly heartfelt. 1 Like |

I have received a significant number of requests from many readers who seek guidance as they intend to start out in the bread distribution business. Many of them usually start out with complaints of not having enough capital. Very sad and defeatist position as you will soon realize. It is on the strength of this that I wish you write a few lines about commencing a thriving bread distribution business. In the next few posts I will be describing the startup requirements for those who are interested in starting out as distributors. I will take it from a three dimensional approach so that everyone who is interested can identify the category where he/she fits in and start out from there. Please note that even though it is crafted with Lagos as the basis, it will be a broad perspective and can be adapted for use in any part of the country. If you have any comments or seek further clarification, you may raise it here. |
Food / Re: Bread Business In Nigeria; Demystifying The Bakery Industry Myth. by ONNYX: 4:02pm On Apr 22, 2020 |
Even during this crisis, some small business are still plying their trade and making money in the process especially those in the essential services segment. There are many lessons to be drawn from here. I work in a bakery and I can tell you there has been no dull moment. We produce everyday even though we have experienced a 13% drop in our production volume but we are still producing nonetheless. Our distributors have also been making money especially those ones that have their own cars and come to the bakery to lift products. For those who don’t have vehicles we have worked out a mutually beneficial delivery arrangement that ensures that we have a win-win situation. On the whole it has been an interesting experience even though we also look forward to a return to normalcy. |

Waksdabos: Would you be willing to fund a new product line within an existing business with 5% monthly profit with quarterly cycles? Commencement would be on the 1st May 2020 with a termination date of July 2020 when your entire investment is returned. Your monthly 5% would however be paid on 31st May, 30th June and 31st July (together with the capital). The above arrangement is irrespective of the Covid19 Lock-Down. |
Career / Re: Will Salary Be Paid During This Lockdown Period? by ONNYX: 12:47pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
Beedude: I don't understand why we are so enamoured by the deadbeat concept; 'graduate'. If you are running any business in Nigeria and have had need to interview for vacant roles you will come to real terms with the emptiness of that word as given expression by the majority of contemporary school leavers. It is a very sad situation but it is not discussed because of the sensitivity of the subject matter. The school system is just producing husks for us at least in the majority of cases. Somebody will be telling you that salaries should not be paid from immediate income which in real terms is not practicable for a small business that is perhaps new underfunded, underpatronized and run by inexperienced though passionate minds. An interaction with those Alhajas selling lace and Guinea brocade in Tinubu square will unveil the mockery of an educational system and its products. Experience will yet come to our aid in everything. |

With the obvious lack of any reasonable palliative for its citizenry the Nigerian state will have to undergo a very grim post Lock-Down experience. Our government is not providing any stimulus for small and medium businesses that will have immediate and direct impact on the macro economic ecosystem. Companies were already under-performing as a result of the very poor economic atmosphere prior to the Covic 19 induced lock-down. While I do not wish to appear completely pessimistic it is important that we look at this thing the way it actually is. Its going to be a very tough phase in our evolution. This knowledge should however not terrorize us but prepare us to face headlong the reality that will be presented at the end of the lock-down. I am of the opinion that despite the fact that things look rather dour, if one should open his/her eyes and look closely and perhaps shift our paradigms a little one could emerge unscathed from all of this. the only way this can happen is for you to be prepared. So many people will take advantage of the gaps that will emerge as a result of this Lock-down crisis and thus set a foundation for greatness from there. Others will refuse to look at the opportunities but will rather brand themselves as victims of the pandemic. Truth be told the labour market is going to be stretched beyond its seams as a result of job cuts and company insolvencies. There will be a hue and cry everywhere. Government will not be able to help because they will be overwhelmed naturally. Despite this a lot of people will still be able to stand tall and swim through the murky waters of the post Covid lock-down environment. Will you be among the strong? How do you intend to weather this storm? |
Career / Re: Will Salary Be Paid During This Lockdown Period? by ONNYX: 12:17pm On Apr 15, 2020 |
sucess001: I hope this is only applies to only large establishments as many of the smaller ones cannot run this efficiently at least in this economy. Finally, there is a clear cut distinction between theory and reality. It doesn't look like you have any experience running a shoe string or hamstrung budget micro business. 1 Like |

What good can possibly come out of the isolation we are all going through at the moment? We seem to have a lot of idle time on our hands. What can we accomplish with this time? How can it be put to use to bring about some benefits in the immediate and remote future? What lessons have been brought to bear on us as individuals and as a people? |
Business / Re: BREAD DISTRIBUTION - A QUIET, UNTAPPED GOLDMINE; THE MYTHS & THE FACTS UNVEILED by ONNYX: 10:10am On Apr 15, 2020 |
I suppose that this lock-down experience would have different effects on different people depending on your world view. I am of the opinion that this experience can be used for good. It is for this reason that I will create some time during this break to discuss possibilities that can arise as a result of this experience. Please let it be known that we live in a country where we cannot in our right minds expect anything from government by way of stimulant packages, palliatives and any other form of support. It therefore becomes our direct responsibility to cater for ourselves (and our immediate dependents) directly and in all ramifications. I will expand on the opportunities that exist in the foods distribution business especially as it is directly related to an area where I have some considerable experience and competence; Bread distribution. |

hamid6249: Wow! Its amazing how you can profile personalities just by reading between the lines in every post made. Hamid, the venom in your post is forgivable primarily because you have no idea of how a small business runs especially in this country. Many small businesses are operating on the edge of the precipice. Indeed I know many bakeries that have shut down (hopefully this is temporary) just because of the increase in the cost of essential raw materials. Some have also been threatened because they operate with a minimal gross profit margin which is predicated on a keen competition the are facing in their segment. At the end of every month they can barely meet payments to suppliers and other contingent costs. I will however assume that your post was anchored on your humanitarian leaning and not on experience as a business owner or as a dispassionate observer of the economy and our local business atmosphere. Please understand that many companies are operating on hope and it will take a while before they break even and thus have a reservoir they can tap into. These are definitely not easy times for the business owner. Many suggestions have been advanced above and some of them are quite sterling. The solution i would like to proffer is that when work resumes workers should work a bit smarter and harder to ensure that things get back to normal as soon as possible. One of the options available is that there will be no bonuses and 13th month this year. Companies should collapse those monies into April salary and start paying it off weekly. Where there is a will there is a way. 7 Likes 1 Share |
