Business To Business / Re: Supplier Of Bulk Palm Oil Needed. by OnyeBabe1(f): 1:14pm On Oct 02, 2012
@poster do you have refined bleached deodorised palm oil. I need that but a small amount around 50 kg to check the quality and usability for my company before bulk ordering.
thanks
Business / Re: Why Do Nigerian Small Businesses Fail From Inception? by OnyeBabe1(f): 3:36am On Feb 26, 2012
We all know businesses fail around the world no need to explain that.
In Nigeria, you notice a huge problem of inadequate record keeping and planning, this leads to a vicious cycle of missed opportunities and short comings. There is also the problem of spend as you earn, business owners hardly set a fixed salary for themselves rather they take whatever they want directly from the business, due to lack of discipline and 'big man' disease.

The infrastructure in Nigeria sucks so even if your idea is great without the suitable support network, it might fail.

We should be discussing Nigerian specific issues here, not general issues.

my mom buys in bulk in the trade fair market or balogun market, just go to the big markets.

What is the focus of the magazine? Fashion, Business, Gossip, Design etc. That should be your first decision. Let us know.
Business / Re: Is Cement Busines Stil Lucrative In Naija. by OnyeBabe1(f): 4:52pm On Feb 07, 2012
ask dangote, lol. The business is growing as demand has not really slowed down since Nigeria is experiencing high economic growth so would the construction industry.
Education / Re: Nigerian Varsities Fail To Make Top 1,600 by OnyeBabe1(f): 4:16pm On Feb 07, 2012
@queensmith, why so serious? Babe chill, I am talking about a business university. I am not saying the entire school is funded like that but the really good ones are helped by big businesses and they do give preferences to get poorer students because diversity in very important for balanced learning since you learn different things from everyone.

I am just proposing an idea and you can always fault it one way or the other, but bear in mind that I just came up with it. I have not sat down to think about every aspect of it, so relax a bit, it is all good.  wink

PS: if I had or have the money, I would definitely create a business school.

and the rich that own and run the big companies and businesses of nigeria will award their children the scholarships, supplement the schools with their extravagant culture and sabotage any welfare introduced.

seriously this is Nigeria we're talking about, not only that. Even in London no such school exists. and no welfare can balance out the disparity of the nation.

Not when it is my school.  Most Business Schools have their income supplemented by companies. Also in the UK, universities reserve places for poorer kids and give them scholarship so that they can achieve diversity, its a crazy world smiley
Religion / Re: Is It Odd To Want To Marry A Pastor? by OnyeBabe1(f): 3:49pm On Feb 07, 2012
My dear, please marry whoever you want, but make sure it is because of who they are, not what they are. Also, they have to be right for you, it is a tad selfish for your partner if you marry them for their professional whatever that may be.
Politics / Re: Atiku's Political Adviser To Wole Soyinka - You Speak "like An Illiterate by OnyeBabe1(f): 3:44pm On Feb 07, 2012
But seriously, this guy is a political adviser to Atiku. Come on, does it sound like he would ever be remembered for anything but the failure of his oga? No, so lets talk, argue and insult each other about people that can create change.  cheesy

queensmith:

^^ in the end the rich will go and the poor will be left behind, is it not naija?

Not if the school is funded by the big companies in Nigeria and I charge international students twice as much, I could have many people on scholarships or have them work in the school part time to supplement their fees. Too many ways to work these things out to an extent because the school needs different backgrounds and cultures to succeed, that is what most good schools do. smiley

It is a free world dear, just stating my opinion
Religion / Re: Should Money From Sowing Of The Seed Go To Pastors? by OnyeBabe1(f): 5:02am On Feb 07, 2012
Simple, stop wasting your money in all these so-called churches, use that money to support a local orphange. Make it a point to always ensure they have food, clothing and health care, God does not look down on such help.
Politics / Re: Ngozi Okonjo-iweala Must Resign – Prof. Tam David West by OnyeBabe1(f): 4:59am On Feb 07, 2012
Nigerians want change but dont want to pay for it. Chinese wanted prosperity and pay with their freedom, now their economy is booming. Nigerians cannot accept rapid change without crying, I know the so-called subsidy removal was too abrupt but it does exist and needs to go. All OPEC countries subsidise fuel, do your research.
Education / Re: Nigerian Varsities Fail To Make Top 1,600 by OnyeBabe1(f): 4:33am On Feb 07, 2012
I just see a business opportunity to create an elite business school in Nigeria. Seriously, accept only 1000 people based on top grades and interviews, build a campus in a town like Ibadan or Benin or Abuja, focus on business development, leadership and innovation, create industry networks and work hard to get my students in the top job positions and well, Okoro is your Uncle.
Politics / Re: Ex-militants Bomb Hotel In Osubi, Okpe LGA,Delta State by OnyeBabe1(f): 4:28am On Feb 07, 2012
Gov. Uduaghan is more useless than Ibori, there is always projects half and half but you never see any thing completed and better. Delta state has gotten worse, the amount of area boys including these illiterate thieves/militants is increasing on a daily basis. Hopefully, he would get better advisers and create a program to educate the youth on entrepreneurship and greed management.
Business / Re: CAC To Register Businesses In 48 Hours - Aganga by OnyeBabe1(f): 4:17am On Feb 07, 2012
ose_o:

lets get our facts together. it does NOT cos $600 to register a limited liability company in Nigeria, You probably just overpaid your lawyer or whoever did it for you. Seconly if it takes you 3 months the fault is not from the government its from whoever you hired to register it for you. The longest I have ever heard of was 3 weeks.

I know companies which were registered and operational within 2 weeks. and im talking about companies that are running multimillion Naira outfits. Its all about the lawyers/agents you use. If you use someone reputable it should not take you more than 3 weeks.

If you want the process to be fast what you should do is provide a good number of alternate names when they do the search so you can avoid time wasted on back and forth.

I would have to disagree with you, if dont have money to bribe all the mountain of staff in the office, it takes 3 months. I dont pay bribes so it took me that long, It is absolutely immoral for them to demand bribes and I am not one to oblige to that because I dont feel it is ethical, it is harder but I rather do that.

The staff in the CAC are incompetent and rude, every single time.
Business / Re: Soap-making Business In Nigeria by OnyeBabe1(f): 2:27am On Nov 07, 2011
Hi guys sorry I stop checking my mail for a while so I didnt see some of the replies on here. I want to post a recipe, that is based on ingredients that can be found in Nigeria. I dont know where you can get them but I suppose you can find them somehow. Try looking for the representatives of croda chemicals, I know of Orkila is a rep in Lagos. Check to see the surfactants and ingredients they have: SLES, Cocamidopropyl betaine, sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, Guar gum, fragrance oil (whatever scent you want) and preservatives (find out the exact one as it would affect the formulation)

ORKILA CHEMICALS LTD
PMB n° 21439
32B Lapido Oluwole Av.
IKEJA / LAGOS
NIGERIA
info.nigeria@orkila.com
Tel: + 234 1 774 21 82
Fax: + 234 1 345 33 71

I got the contact info above from their website, so I doubt the tel would work. Let me know if can get hold of the ingredients above then we can start from there.
Religion / Re: Is It Compulsory To Go To Church On Sunday? by OnyeBabe1(f): 2:16pm On Oct 14, 2011
Most of the replies are hilarious. I personally do not think it is compulsory to go to church on Sunday, we have to make sure that we all dont start misinterpreting the Bible so that it fits with what we think and feel. Your relationship with God is not quantified or accessed by what others can see you doing or what others think is right. It helps to worship with others because for me it is more fun and I like sharing that experience but at the same time bear in mind that many of the horrible things done on a daily basis are done by people who go to church.

There are many of us that go to church everyday but when outside the church we behave horribly to people, act rudely, judge others, indulge in fraudulent behaviour etc. So going to church every Sunday doesn't make you a good Christian.
TV/Movies / Re: Insensitive And Funny Laws Of Multichoice Ng by OnyeBabe1(f): 1:58pm On Oct 14, 2011
@OP - The rule is basic and standard, it has nothing to do with them being South African. You should learn to read terms and conditions, also how are we sure that you were not also rude to the Nigerians you spoke to. Just saying, Nigerians working anywhere, are generally rude, lets be honest here.
Business / Re: Soap-making Business In Nigeria by OnyeBabe1(f): 6:51am On Jul 01, 2011
Caustic soda does not cause cancer, Formalin does.

stop chatting poppycocks!!!

lets have your recipe here and lets break it down alongside mine . . .

u know very little yet YAP TOO MUCH!!

utter rubbish! angry

Quite immature, I only commented because I was shocked that you use formalin and Natrosol, which we dont use where i work because of the negative side effects and long term health problems. Dont really like slag matches so forget I even mentioned anything.

a formular that is outdated and yet producing results is better than a formular that NO ONE HERE WOULD WANT TO USE . . .

your formulating cosmetics doesnt mean others dont, u love to denigrate others forgetting that not only one way leads to Hell grin

well ignorance is bliss. Keep selling products that are harmful to your customers in the long run.

hannie:

what has Soda Ash got to do with Laurel Sulfate? shocked

and what has my recipe containing Guar gum and emulsifying wax got to do with Natrosol? are u kidding me? shocked

I produce liquid soap that ARGUABLY cant be bettered by anybody nor factory so I dont understand why u feel Guar gum and emulsifying wax will give more consistent results, as far as I know we are not talking of HOME-MADE LIQUID SOAP here grin

Home made liquid soap is too complicated for you so dont worry about that.

How can u justify using Natrosol in your product? all it does is thicken the product and it is an irritant , I am suggesting a better thickener. I formulate cosmetics including shampoo so I know. your formula is outdated, stop believing your own marketing spin.
Business / Re: Nigerian Entrepreneurs Have Dislike For Research by OnyeBabe1(f): 11:42am On Jun 24, 2011
Absolutely on point, most people just see what others are doing and what to imitate without proper understanding of the business and the various aspects it entails.
Business / Re: Soap-making Business In Nigeria by OnyeBabe1(f): 11:32am On Jun 24, 2011
Also Formalin in harmful to people's health and as u use it in manufacturing ur health in affected by regular exposure. In most countries formalin in banned in soap.
Business / Re: Soap-making Business In Nigeria by OnyeBabe1(f): 11:30am On Jun 24, 2011
these recipes are awful, the amount of soda ash or whatever u use is based on the other ingredients, you cannot just reduce b y percentages. And why are u still using soda ash if you use any laureth sulphates? Why use Natrosol, when u can use guar gum and emulsifying wax and get better consistent results?

Researc your recipe, it has too many ingredients that raise the PH level of the product and make it unsuitable for daily use which affects you profitability.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Airtel’s Slave Yard by OnyeBabe1(f): 9:56am On May 18, 2011
lagerwhenindoubt:

True: Your Qualifications does not equate actual job skills or experience
True: Being too qualified for a low-paying job-role does not mean you should snob it
True: Low Take-home pay (as long as it is above average) does not mean you should not be committed to the job

However the gripe is not about all of the above but particularly about the gripe below

Argument: Considering the size of the Airtel's Nigeria customer-base and the frequent customer-experience issues non-technical (average-skilled) Staff have to deal with, if Take-home pay cannot be reconciled with present economic hardship, then work hours must be reduced
Argument: If Airtel's profits allow, then pay-increase must follow to match the extra man-hours demanded by the company

Interesting argument, thank you.

However, one of the reasons Zain was sold to Airtel was because the profit margins were such that it showed no sign of improvement. People get stuck in their ways whether efficient or not, this level of inefficiency and the shortsightedness of people to see that they have to tighten the purse strings, is why businesses fail.

I find that most workers in Nigerian dont appreciate the need to downsize. Mobile phone tariffs in Nigeria are amongst the highest in the world and we all blame the government or other people but we never think that maybe if the company paid less to match the market rate or a bit above it or stop employing celebrities for adverts or stop the annoying unimaginative competitions and gimmicks they use, we might just get better price and service and thus more satisfied customers and less hassle for the staff.

This is my opinion and nobody has to agree that is why we are different.

twinstaiye:

That opinions aint fair. Working in abuja is expensive, 75k is not much, Most of them are graduates, taking up such jobs because of the situation in the country.

Point being? The term graduate only implies the person has completed a university degree programme, it does not mean they have the skills for the job even though the role is not classed as a high skilled position neither does it mean you should get paid a certain amount. There are many graduates around the world who do the same thing, you don't snob an opportunity because you have a degree, the job pays above average wage so because the salary cannot buy you a house does not mean the job is not worth committing to. smiley

Our Labour Union Executives have been Compromised;God save us and once we have a good & corrupt free Anti graft Agency then one just need to file up a suit against them with evidence and make sure that all the Nigerians who participated in the Corrupt practices and un human activities are brought to book.

Regards,

Dejavu! angry

Are you kidding? Stereotyping helps no one and not all Indians are ripping off the economy so dont go and start harassing people going about their business. This is exactly what is killing Nigerians, lack of multiple world views, lets all join on the band wagon and penalise the Indians for maintaining jobs that local companies cannot maintain. You lack commitment to your job that is not a good sign for any employer, how wont they mistreat you? If you have no regard for your job, it would affect your performance and you would get fired anyway. So chin up and stop bearing grudges, it is not the way to live. smiley
