Ogbonaikenna: Imagine a civil engineer teaching civic education. Is it design of indeterminate structures or retaining wall that i will teach them. Tomorow they will complain about quack engineers. Putting round peg in square hole. Mitchew. I laugh in agatu
U are serving in Agatu!!!! I heard the place is Fvcked!!!!! I'm currently serving in Ohimini LGA... Abaole?

@op... generalisation of the whole thing is rather fallacious! I was thought(maths) back in secondary school by a corper who read computer science...we gained so much from him! The guy was very good!...he was even better than some maths teachers back then..so dedicated! Most teachers now ain't dedicated @ all! I know this because I'm serving in a secondary school... Imaging students coming to the staff room to remind a teacher that she's supposed to be in their class and the teacher, instead of telling them that she's coming, she'll just shout @ them and walk them out....This is what some permanent teachers @ my PPA are fond of...
I read Mechanical engr. and I'm handling maths SS1,2&3(there was no maths teacher before I came)..... Anyone who studied engineering can handle maths and physics comfortably(I'm good in geography as well).... Most of these so called Teachers copy all the examples in their text book(s) and give to students..they can't even formulate one example with their head(s)!
And for the record, the permanent teachers in my school are not up to 7.....

I'm outta here folks..... Peace!

@OP....it's like a taboo for parents to keep their Children From Speaking Vernacular.
There is this family friend of mine who married a spanish woman...he came back last december with his wife and 2 kids for the first time in almost 15years and guess what, his kids and wife were able to speak a lil bit of IGBO....we couldn't believe our ears @ first..his wife and kids have never been to 9ja before.....we were all Shocked!!..He taught them Igbo language....
I enjoy learning other languages...I'm a proud IGBO man and my children MUST speak IGBO....Period...

Culture › Re: The Hardest of the 3 Major Language to Learn by Onyenna(m): 7:42am On Nov 10, 2012
ChinenyeN: The hardest would have to be Igbo. Aside from the artificial dialect, there is no generally accepted standard. Then, even after learning the artificial dialect, you come to find out that it is practically useless to you, since most native speakers don't actively communicate in it. Instead, you hear tongues, accents, phonemes and even lexicon that are simply divergent.

Example; You learn 'ihere' (shame), based on the artificial dialect, only to come across a speaker saying 'whnuwhnerne'. This is just one of countless examples.

Don't get me wrong, each language has its selling points for difficulty, but the fact that Igbo can attest to such high degree of divergence, in such a comparatively close proximity, puts it a step or so above the rest (in my opinion), because learning 'Igbo' (the artificial dialect, doesn't mean you can speak with others, and that is the point of learning a language to begin with.
Nwanne, it's like that everywhere......Yorubas find it difficult to understand some dialects say ondo(akure)...... None is easy to learn.... I think the most important thing would be to learn the basics.... I'm currently serving in benue state(idoma zone)...I can now speak idoma a lil bit.. It took me a while to put some things together...sometimes if u wanna translate from english to idoma, people will tell u different things/versions...
