Dismiss, prosecute soldiers who murdered 348 Shiites – UK urges Nigeria The United Kingdom on Thursday urged the Nigerian government to implement a White Paper which recommended the dismissal and prosecution of soldiers who murdered 348 members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria aka Shiites in two days of deadly clashes. Soldiers attached to the Chief of Army Staff, Gen. Yusuf Buratai, opened fire on the Shiites after hundreds of them blocked the army chief’s convoy on Kaduna-Zaria Road. The brutal attack was followed by a deadly raid on the headquarters of the Shiites in Zaria, during which some of the sons of their leader, Ibrahim el-Zakzaky, were killed. They also abducted Zakzaky and kept him incommunicado till date while the state government demolished buildings owned by the group. Following public outcry, Kaduna State Governor, Nasir el-Rufai, set up a panel of enquiry. Upon the conclusion of its assignment, the state government issued a White Paper, in which the Nigerian government was called upon to dismiss and prosecute the soldiers. In a tweet commemorating the first anniversary of the killings, the British High Commission in Abuja recalled that “it’s been a year since the tragic event in Zaria, which reportedly resulted in the deaths of 348 civilians and one soldier.” Making specific demands, it stated: “We call on the Nigerian Federal Government to take the recommendations made in the Zaria report forward in order to ensure that any future actions taken by the Nigerian Armed Forces are in accordance with international human rights law and/or international humanitarian law.” Source: https://newtelegraphonline.com/dismiss-prosecute-soldiers-murdered-348-shiites-uk-urges-nigeria/ |
Monitor Shiites seriously, Nigeria Police chief charges officers December 14, 2016Mohammed Lere and Agency Report A police chief has charged officers to monitor the activities of Shiites in a part of Nigeria. The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone One, comprising Kano, Katsina and Jigawa States, Adamu Ibrahim, charged police officers in the zone to remain vigilant and monitor activities of Shiites in the zone. Mr. Ibrahim gave the charge while addressing officers of Jigawa Police Command in Dutse on Wednesday. He explained that the recent clash between the Shiites and police in Kano indicated that they were a violent group and must be monitored seriously. The AIG said that intelligence report had shown that the group had members all over the country and had leadership structure in 36 states of the federation, including Jigawa. According to him, the leader of the group in every state is called ‘Governor’, pointing out that the police would not allow the group to form a parallel government in the country. Mr. Ibrahim, therefore, tasked officers of the state police command to monitor the Shiites to ensure peace in the zone. Mr. Ibrahim’s statement comes a month after at least nine people were killed in Kano after police forcefully stopped a Shiite protest. The police said eight Shiites and a police sergeant were killed in the clash and blamed the religious group for the violence. The Shiites said over a dozen of their members were killed when the ice used force to disband a peaceful protest. Wednesday’s statement by the police also comes a few weeks after the Kaduna State government labelled the Shiites, a religious minority in Northern Nigeria, an “insurgent group” that should be dealt with. The group has repeatedly protested to demand the release of its leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky who was arrested without trial since December last year after over 300 Shiites were killed by soldiers in Kaduna. Rights groups, activist, lawyers and the U.S. have cautioned the Nigerian government against criminalising the Shiites for their religious beliefs. On Wednesday, Mr. Ibrahim also commended the Jigawa police for tackling the menace of kidnapping, armed robbery as well as farmer/herdsmen clashes in the state. NIGERIA: END REPRESSION OF GROUP, RELEASE OR CHARGE LEADER Human Right Watch December 14, 2016 (Abuja) – Nigerian authorities should end their violent repression of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), a minority Shia group, that began with a three-day lethal crackdown on December 12-14, 2015, and free its leader, Human Rights Watch said today. Sheik Ibraheem El Zakzaky, leader of the IMN, and his wife, Zeenatudeen, have been detained without trial for a year. On December 12, 2015, the Nigeria army used disproportionate force against the group’s street procession in Zaria, Kaduna State in northwestern Nigeria to clear a route for the army chief’s convoy. In an ensuing three-day violent crackdown, the army killed 347 members of the group and injured and arrested scores more. The violence against the group continued in a series of episodes in October and November 2016. “The involvement of soldiers in the Zaria incidents, and subsequent police actions against the Islamic Movement raises major questions about Nigeria’s commitment to military reform,” said Mausi Segun, senior Nigeria researcher at Human Rights Watch. “The Kaduna state government’s continued repression of the group without holding the attackers responsible turns justice on its head.” Nigerian authorities should hold accountable anyone who has committed crimes against Islamic Movement members, and take immediate steps to comply with a federal court order mandating the release of Sheik El Zakzaky and his wife, Human Rights Watch said. Human Rights Watch reported in December 2015 that the killings were unjustified and called for an independent and impartial investigation into the carnage. A judicial commission of inquiry, appointed to investigate the events, found that the army used “excessive force” against protesters and was responsible for the deaths and mass burial of the 347 members of the group. It recommended the prosecution of soldiers involved in the killings. The commission also recommended holding Islamic Movement members responsible for their “acts of habitual lawlessness,” and said that El Zakzaky bore responsibility for failing to call his followers to order when requested to do so. In a White Paper responding to the report released on December 5, 2016, the Kaduna State government unilaterally declared the Islamic Movement to be an insurgent group against which the army was justified in using lethal force. Contrary to the commission’s findings, the state government stated that soldiers who shot at protesters, laid siege to religious sites belonging to the group, killed 347 members and buried them in unmarked mass graves, acted according to the army’s rules of operation. The Kaduna State government is seeking the death penalty against 50 members of the group who are facing trial for the death of the only military casualty in the episode, Corporal Dan Kaduna Yakubu. But it has essentially exempted the army from any responsibility for the killings of the Islamic Movement members, and no-one has been held responsible for the deaths. On October 7, the state government banned the Islamic Movement, citing the commission of inquiry’s finding that the group was unregistered. The move appears to have triggered a wave of police and mob violence against the group’s members participating in its annual religious processions, and the destruction of their properties in Kaduna as well as neighboring Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Plateau, and Sokoto States, where the police followed the Kaduna example of banning activities of the group. Media reports allege that at least 12 people died in the violence in October, and more than 10 more were killed in subsequent clashes in November. A federal high court ruled on December 2 that the continued detention without trial of El Zakzaky and his wife by the State Security Services, “amounted to a gross violation of the constitution and the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights.” The court ordered the government to release the couple within 45 days, pay them approximately US$170 million in damages, and provide them with a secure residence in view of the December 2015 destruction of their home. The federal government, in whose custody El Zakzaky and his wife have been detained, has not indicated whether it will comply with the court’s decision. Hundreds of the group’s members have remained in prison since the Zaria incident and subsequent arrests during religious processions and protest marches to demand their leaders’ release, the group says. A few detainees, mostly women and children, were released but most others have been arraigned in courts in Kaduna, Kano, and Jos for offenses including disturbing public peace, incitement, unlawful assembly, and homicide. The pattern of violent repressive conduct against the group may violate Nigeria’s constitution, which guarantees the rights to life; personal liberty; freedom of thought, conscience, and religion; peaceful assembly and association; and freedom of movement. Nigeria may also be in breach of its obligations under African regional and international human rights law to protect these rights. “Nigeria’s federal and state authorities should reconsider the heavy-handed crackdown against IMN members, take urgent steps to protect them, and hold those responsible for the unlawful deaths of group members to account,” Segun said. “The government should carry out its law enforcement responsibilities without jeopardizing its own credibility by ignoring court decisions that rightly seek to check its agents’ excesses.” Region / Country Africa Nigeria https://www.hrw.org/news/2016/12/14/nigeria-end-repression-shia-group cc Seun Lalasticlala |
swazpedro:The biatch is not a Nigerian. Don't mind the silly girl. They sent her to nairaland to influence Nigerian public opinion and campaign for her terrorist friends in Syria. Those animals called rebels or rather terrorists as they should be called eat human heart raw. They are cannibals. These animals committed all sorts of atrocities against Syrians. But the western media turn a blind eye. Immediately their puppets are about to be given a knockout punch in Aleppo all of a sudden these hypocrites, sectarian bigots and liars and supporters of terrorism became caring for civilian lives. Tell this same biatch about the famine in Yemen and how children are as skinny or bony as skeletons, and she will pretend they don't exist because her country sells weapons to Saudi Arabia and Saudi is using those weapons on Yemeni children. The bombing in Yemen is foreign aggression and indiscriminate from the air. The western media cannot tolerate the fact they have lost in Syria. All the time terrorists used civilians as human shields in cages for being pro Assad, these hypocrites didn't care about civilians and the fact that majority of Syrians support their leader. She's no humanitarian. There's nothing to be done about Aleppo for terrorists fighting a legitimate government. Aleppo was a normal city under the same Assad they are trying to demonize (because he's not a western puppet), before the west and its puppets supported terrorists from around the world to invade and fight a sectarian war with regional undertones. |
Nigerian researchers discover cure for HIV/AIDS Author: Eromosele Ebhomele Updated: 4 hours ago Views: 20986 - Leaders around the world have constantly expressed concerns over the state of HIV/AIDS in different countries - As a result, many researchers, including from Nigeria, are busy with possible solutions to the scourge - A team of researchers from a university in Nigeria recently received global applauds for their discovery of a cure for the disease Nigerian scientists and researchers at the Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Abia state have broken a major record with their discovery of a cure for the dreaded HIV/AIDS. The discovery was made at a time the world is waiting in anticipation of a vaccine that is being tested in South Africa. Thisday reports that the Nigerian team is led by Prof Maduike Ezeibe and has been able to prove that Medicinal Synthetic Aluminium-magnesium Silicate (MSAMS), which it developed, can cure HIV/AIDS. This result of the clinical trial of the MSAMS in male and female HIV/AIDS patients has been published in the British Journal of Medicine & Medical Research 18(11):1-7, 2016; Article no BJMMR.29018. The report further said the result was among the papers presented recently at the World Virology Conference 2016 held at Texas, US. Though Ezeibe was not at the conference because he could not raise money for the trip, he sent a video presentation that caught the fancy of the participants. Ezeibe, a professor of Veterinary Medicine, spoke with journalists and lamented the lukewarm attitude of Nigeria’s health authorities to his discovery. He said since 2014 when he was given the national patent right (Ref. No. NG/P/2012/639, 2014), the government had not done anything about commercializing the discovery. He said that the medicine that he had discovered to have antiretroviral properties had been in use. The professor said: “We Africans lack confidence in ourselves. “The only science we did is that we discovered that it has charges – negative and positive and since HIV has positive charges, the MSAMS use its negative charges to attract and destroy HIV.” According to him, HIV/AIDS has remained incurable because of the small size of the virus and immune deficiency it causes. “HIV destroys lymphocytes (immune cells that clear infections from organs that are inaccessible to medicines. So, nothing was known that could terminate its infections (and) for that the infection was said to be in ‘sanctuary’,” he said. He noted that since Aluminum-magnesium Silicate (AMS) molecular platelets (nanoparticles) are smaller (0.96nm) than HIV, the nanoparticles cross physiological barriers to act on all body cells. https://www.naij.com/1077407-nigerian-researchers-discover-cure-hivaids.html SEUN LALASTICLALA |
#ZariaMassacre:No Justice For Victims One Year After December 12, 2016Uncategorized #ZariaMassacre:No Justice For Victims One Year After I went to Sokoto in mid October, 2015, and on my way back I decided to stop over at Zaria to meet my friend Dr. Isa Waziri of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (Samaru campus). While at his office his two sons who were twins, Hassan and Hussein, came and when they saw me as usual they were very happy. I greeted them and asked after their mother, brothers and sisters and I also asked after their education. Their father informed me that they had completed their High School and just secured University admission. I advised them on the importance of education and the need of hard work. They told their father that they will be going to Husseiniya (Shia Islamic center destroyed by Nigerian government) for a religious program and they left. Unknown to me that was the last time I will see Hassan (18) and Hussein (18). They were brutally murdered by the Nigerian army in the residence of Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky and the Satanic Governor of Kaduna state, Nasir Elrufai, dumped their dead bodies in a single mass grave. The Waziri family also lost another son, Muhammad (23), and daughter, Fatima (21), who were both undergraduate students at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, during the inhuman ZariaMassacre. On 12th-14th December, 2015 Nigerian President Buhari sent the Nigerian army to Zaria and attacked members of the peaceful Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) under the leadership of His Eminence Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky. The army killed more than 800 Nigerian citizens, burnt and destroyed the iconic Husseiniya and burnt and destroyed the residence of Sheikh Zakzaky that included his famous Library. After the inhuman massacre President Buhari, Gov Elrufai and their gang of mass-murderers dumped the dead bodies in mass graves at night. To this day no single person is arrested for the heinous crimes of the mass-murder of 800+ Nigerians. In its most recent letter to the Nigerian government the US government called on it to prosecute the murderous criminals who executed the Zariamassacre. The Nigerian government failed to prosecute the murderous criminals who slaughtered 800+ Nigerian men, women, children and the aged because President Buhari ordered the brutal massacre and all the actions of the government since then was to bury the massacre just as they buried the victims of the massacre. Nigerians are at a loss as to why will Nigerian government massacred close to one thousand Nigerian civilians in less than 48 hours and dumped their dead bodies in mass graves. The inhuman ZariaMassacre was an evil imperialist agenda that have the Saudi regime as a front and that was why the Saudi King called President Buhari four days after the massacre to celebrate the mass-murder of Nigerian civilians. Inhuman war crimes were committed by the Nigerian army during ZariaMassacre, they burnt Nigerians alive, they raped girls and women, they shot women in their private parts and stabbed their breast with Rifle bayonets while chanting ‘No Shia in Nigeria’ and they deliberately bombed civilians in a religious site. During the mass burial by Gov Elrufai some Nigerians were buried alive in the mass grave. The ZariaMassacre will go down in history as the peak of inhuman savagery and naked barbarism by the Buhari administration. Hundreds of Young Nigerian students like Hassan and Hussein were brutally murdered by the Soldiers that are paid to protect them and the Satanic Elrufai dumped their dead bodies in mass grave. None of the families of the victims is contacted by Nigerian authorities as the authorities are desperate to bury the massacre. On a final note, as students of history we know that it is impossible to bury inhuman massacres like the ZariaMassacre. One day the true picture of what actually happened will be know to all and the mass graves unearth for the world to see. Heartfelt condolences to all the families of the victims of the massacre and God heal the injured as there are Nigerians still nursing the injuries they sustained during the massacre. US Calls for Release of Shiite Leader 09 December, 2016 09:01 Abuja - The United States has urged Nigeria to abide by court rulings and release Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) leader, Ibrahim Zakzaky.* The call comes a year after clashes between IMN and Army resulted in the deaths of a reported 348 civilians and one soldier. “We fully agree with the White Paper’s recommendation that members of the military who were involved in the unlawful killing of civilians must be held accountable and punished appropriately,” John Kirby, Assistant Secretary and Department Spokesperson, said. Kirby said as the one-year anniversary of the Zaria Massacre event approached, they called on the federal government to be diligent, and transparent. He encouraged the federal government to act on the recent Abuja high court’s decision that Zakzaky and his wife should be released from prison within 45 days, as they had been held without charge since last December. Kirby raised concern the characterisation of IMN as an insurgent group. - CAJ News http://www.news24.com.ng/National/News/us-calls-for-release-of-shiites-leader-20161209 CC: Seun Lalasticlala |

This is very much unbecoming of Professor Ishaq Akintola. he released a statement yesterday (Titled:MURIC Blasts Kaduna Government For Labelling Shiite IMN “insurgent Group” ) referring to the IMN as "pacific" (meaning non-violent). that was the word contained in his statement. within 24 hours, the same Professor of the same Sunni Islamic group (MURIC) he is speaking on behalf of is claiming "fresh information" (WITHIN 24 HOURS!!!) that the IMN used to kill Islamic clerics (meaning Sunni clerics) in the north. we need to know the names of those clerics and when they were killed. you cannot widely propagate such viewpoint as your own statement and claim with no basis, and still declare that you are "not holding brief" for the authors of the allegations. then why propagate such claims and make a second statement? within 24 hours Professor Akintola is being made to retrace his steps and disassociate himself from the IMN and even went on to launch scathing sectarian attacks on the entirety of the universal or global Shia Islamic faith calling their beliefs "heretical". it is either the professor has been pressured to retrace his steps, or this his second statement is part of his game plan. but from the contradictions in the two statements, it is apparently pressure that made him to issue another statement to neutralize his first. Lawyers express divergent views on Kaduna govt. labelling Shiite IMN “insurgent group” December 7, 2016Evelyn Nigerian lawyers have expressed divergent views on the legality of the action by the Kaduna State government designating the Shiite group, IMN, an “insurgent group.” While one of the lawyers who spoke in interviews with PREMIUM TIMES said the declaration was constitutional, others said it was not. The Kaduna State government in a White Paper released on Monday said “for all intent and purpose, the IMN is an insurgent group and ought to be treated as such.” The government also vowed to prosecute the group’s leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky for “crimes” committed by him and his followers for the past 30 years. Mr. El-Zakzaky and his wife have been detained without trial since December last year after soldiers killed over 300 members of his group. The soldiers accused the IMN members of blocking the road and plotting to kill the Army Chief, Tukur Buratai; a claim the Shiites denied. The killing was condemned by local and international rights group. A Federal High Court in Abuja on December 2 declared the detention of Mr. El-Zakzaky as unconstitutional and ordered his release within 45 days. The judge, Gabriel Kolawole, also awarded a N50 million fine in favour of Mr. El-Zakzaky and his wife, against the State Security Service, SSS, and the Attorney General of the Federation. He ordered that a safe place of residence be created for the cleric and his wife in Kaduna State, and that the IMN should not be demonised. “I am of the view that the applicant need not be demonised, but that they should be allowed to practice the faith they choose,” said Mr. Kolawole. Three days after Mr. Kolawole’s judgement, the Kaduna government announced its decision to label the IMN an insurgent group. The state government had earlier banned the group. LAWYERS REACT In his reaction, Akin Olujimi, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, said the Kaduna government acted based on law, and therefore the declaration was constitutional. “The terrorism act contains provisions empowering government to declare an organisation a terrorism organisation. These are security issues that rely in intelligence which you and I may not be privy to. So when they have those intelligence they can now come out to say the group is a terrorist group,” he said. “But we must also know that the court has a power to determine a matter before it. If the court has enough evidence before it that a group is a terrorism organisation the court will make such a pronouncement. But if it does not have enough evidence to make such a declaration, it will not make such a pronouncement. It will only ensure that the fundamental rights of parties are respected.” In a contrary opinion, another senior advocate, Simon Ameh, said the declaration is null and void. “The people are entitled to peaceful assembly, it is their constitutional right. He (the governor) has no right to ban them. The Kaduna State government just has a duty to ensure compliance to law and order. But this declaration in law is null and void,” said Mr. Ameh. Similarly, another lawyer, Jiti Ogunye, said the declaration is a complete aberration of the provisions of law and an invitation to disaster. “Even without a positive pronouncement of a court order, the act by the Kaduna State government is illegal and unconstitutional,” Mr. Ogunye said. “The right to freedom of religion is guaranteed by the constitution and government ought not to make it a habit to infringe on that right. “The Shiite are a religious minority in northern Nigeria and the invasion by the northern part of Nigeria including the Nigerian government is that they are using state authority to wage a sectarian battle. Nigeria is not an Islamic state, so whatever problem the Shiites and the Sunni Muslims might have, ought to not be the problem of Nigeria. So when you use state apparatus to destroy the lives and homes of these people, declare them an insurgent group and then ban them; what impression are you creating. “The attack of December, 2015 did not result in the death of one military officer; innocent Nigerians were reportedly killed in that incident. You cannot use state apparatus to wage sectarian battle against a religious group. When the Boko Haram issue started, that was how it was poorly managed till today it has become a Nigerian problem,” Mr. Ogunye said. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/217210-lawyers-express-divergent-views-kaduna-govt-labelling-shiite-imn-insurgent-group.html CC Seun Lalasticlala |
kazlaw2000:My dear, let us talk like educated people. What is happening is exactly the reason Iran would want to use these people to cause Nigeria headache. These people are Nigerians. They share faith with the Iranians. Sunnis share faith with Saudis. There's Saudi-Iran rivalry. Is it by killing them, and making provocative labeling that will ensure Iran hands off? The allegation that the IMN would become another hezbollah is myopic and speaks either of someone who is uninformed of world affairs or biased. There is no parallel between hezbollah and the IMN other than both being Shia and there is also no parallel between hezbollah and takfiri Sunni terror groups. Banning IMN because you fear hezbollah is like banning Wahhabi Izala because you fear Alqaeda. You can look at the genesis of hezbollah in Lebanon. Going through Wikipedia will explain a lot. Hezbollah started as a reaction to Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon which is predominantly Shia. It is a liberation movement just like Mandela's ANC and the bolivarian movements in Latin America. Hezbollah doesn't go about bombing Sunni and Christian places of worship. Recently, Lebanon elected as president the former military chief, a Christian who heads a parliamentary bloc. This man is Christian and he's an ally of hezbollah. Hezbollah is an ally of the Syrian government and fighting against ISIS. They have singlehandedly prevented ISIS from infiltrating Lebanon. The allegation that they are stronger than the government of Lebanon or the army of Lebanon is again ignorance. Hezbollah is a political party in Lebanon. It has ministers in the Lebanese government and elected members in parliament. It represents the Shia Muslim lebanese who make up the single largest religious community in Lebanon. Such a group is only terrorist if you follow American and Israeli view points that anyone who resist Israeli occupation is anti Semitic and a terrorist. Or if you're Sunni Wahhabi and you hate everything Shia! The same powers calling hezbollah a terrorist group for fighting Israel are the same powers that have caused hezbollah to be more powerful than the Lebanese army. The Lebanese army is under armed. The Nigerian army of recent has suffered the same fortune. The western powers refuse to sell and arm the Lebanese army to defend Lebanese territorial integrity, because no Arab country is allowed to be strong or stronger than Israel. The Lebanese army couldn't ward off the Israeli occupation of southern Lebanon. This led the citizens to carry arms and organized themselves into what became hezbollah. Self defense against occupation is not a crime. Fighting for the liberation of one's land against a foreign enemy is universally accepted human rights. Arm the Lebanese army, they refused. The Lebanese army is described as well trained but under equipped. Since the conventional army couldn't defend its people , a non conventional force came into being. And this force is an ally to both the Syrian army and the Lebanese army. Thus you see that hezbollah vehemently supported the election for Lebanon resident of two former Christian army chiefs by parliament. The Sunni led Arab countries have a long history of victimizing and persecuting their Shia populations. That has given Iran opportunity to meddle. Now take the instance of Kuwait. Kuwait has a population that is 40% Shia. Almost evenly divided between Shia and Sunni. The royal family is Sunni. But do you hear any Shia wahala in Kuwait? No. The royal family treats all citizens well. The Shia are not victimized in Kuwait through government, even though Kuwait is not a democratic government. And there's room for improvement in the polity. You don't victimize your citizens for being Shia or whatever, and then complain that they are resisting oppression. That is the problem in Saudi. A Wahhabi Sunni doesn't care if a Shia is pro-Iran or anti-Iran, insurgents or peaceful Angels. The Wahhabis are against the beliefs of Shia Islam and anyone who adheres to them. In Kuwait, Shia have mosques, schools and businesses and treated fairly well. So your fear mongering of hezbollah and Iran while you're justifying victimization of Nigerians, will only end up playing against your fears. It's counterproductive. We are a democracy and a secular state. Freedom of religious should not be compromised out of fear of anything or any excuse. |

BREAKING: Court orders immediate release of Nigeria Shi’a leader, El-Zakzaky December 2, 2016Evelyn Okakwu https://i2.wp.com/media.premiumtimesng.com/wp-content/files/2015/12/zakzaky-27.jpg?w=585 Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky An Abuja Division of the Federal High Court on Friday ordered the release of the leader of the Shi’a Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky. Mr. El-Zakzaky was arrested by the military on December 14, 2015, after a clash between the movement and officers of the Nigerian army. The army killed at least 347 members of the group. Mr. El-Zakzaky approached the court to demand his release, months after he was arrested without being charged to Court. He asked the Court to declare that his arrest and continued detention violated his fundamental rights. His lawyer, Femi Falana, said the court should declare that the continued detention of his client without charging him, was unlawful. Delivering the judgement, Justice Gabriel Kolawole, rejected the submission of the counsel to the State Security Service, Tijjani Gazali, that Mr. El-Zakzaky was kept in protective custody of the SSS. He said the decision to hold the Islamic cleric and his wife for their safety was not based on law. “I have not been shown any incident report or any complaint lodged by residents around the neighbourhood that the applicant has become a nuisance to his neigbourhood,” said the judge. He said the decision of the government to hold the applicant for so long amounted to great danger. Citing the death of former leader of the Boko Haram leader, Mohammed Yusuf, the judge said; “If the applicant dies in custody which I do not pray for, it could result in many needless deaths”. Mr. Kolawole said the government should within 45 days release the applicant and his family to the police, who shall within 24 hours take them, guarded by escort, to a safe place. He added that the SSS will pay a fine of N25 million each to Mr. El-Zakzaky and his wife, making N50 million. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/216936-breaking-court-orders-immediate-release-nigeria-shia-leader-el-zakzaky.html CC: Seun Lalasticlala Mynd44 |
This is very commendable by the police commissioner of sokoto. All the bloodshed against the Shia up north is not needed and can be avoided if there is channel of communication between the security agencies and citizens. For peace to reign it's not always about force. The Sunnis and Shia have long lived in peace. The problem is Wahhabis among Sunnis who insist on declaring the Shia as heretics. Thus many would suspect foreign (Saudi Wahhabi) influence going by the magnitude of force that dealt with the Shia since last year. Nigeria is for all Nigerians regardless of their creed. Therefore this visit is commendable and let's hope to see more of its kind. This commissioner is a good person going by this move. Building bridges and peace making are good thing in the country. Bloodshed justified or not is a bad thing and stinks of backwardness and retrogression. I see nothing so complicated in this Shia brouhaha that cannot be peacefully resolved without bloodshed. Before the 2015 elections, El Rufai himself visited Zakzaky in his house. I don't understand why El Rufai couldn't have made a repeat visit after the election to avert misunderstanding and bloodshed. |
Nigeria: evidence emerges of mass burials after Arbaeen massacre News ID: 3833233 - Thu 24 November 2016 - 20:58 Politics TEHRAN, Nov. 24 (MNA) – Photographs have emerged showing the graves of over 30 victims of last week's massacre of civilians in a peaceful religious procession on the outskirts of the northern city of Kano. Scores of people were killed and many injured after Nigerian security forces attacked them with live rounds as they marked the 40-day anniversary of Ashura. The procession was one of many strands from all over the country trying to reach the city of Zaria to join up with a gathering organized by the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) which in previous years has attracted several million people. The photographs show several rows of freshly dug graves in a cemetery in Kaukau village in Kano State. The graves, all unmarked, are believed to belong to some of those gunned down in the military assault on November 14. The discovery comes as the Nigerian government faces mounting concern over its recent treatment of the IMN. Last week Nigerian authorities also demolished schools, hospitals and seminaries belonging to the IMN in the state of Kaduna just as the Attorney General and Minister of Justice was flying out to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague to answer questions about another massacre last December. The Nigerian government has been waging a bloody crackdown on the IMN which has seen its leaders and followers killed, shot, arrested, raped, beaten and harassed since December 2015 when an army attack led to over 1000 people, mainly IMN members and supporters, being massacred. RABIUSHILE04:Stop lying. All the attacks in the countries you mentioned and even more, of recent and of the past in western countries, were carried out by Sunnis. Do you have any shame or do you think you are here talking to zombies? The same things and attacks your own people carry out you want to use to shame the Shia. You guys are terribly sick. All the terrorists and terror groups that carries out and claim to have carried out those attacks in France, Belgium and the US are Sunni. ISIS follows Sunni Wahhabism. |
Re:Now That Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) Has Attacked Police November 18, 2016Uncategorized Re:Now That Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) Has Attacked The Police My attention was drawn to the above article by a UK-based Nigerian activist. The article appeared on “The Breaking News” website and was written by the fictitious character “Kolawole Anthony” that was used extensively by the Nigerian army Chief Buratai after he supervised the inhuman ZariaMassacre that killed close to one thousand Nigerian civilians. The fictitious “Kolawole Anthony” always use the Nassarawa state university as an address but such name does not exist in the staff list of that institution. For the sake of clarity and setting records straight I will debunk the fraudulent insinuations and conclusions of this fictitious character “Kolawole Anthony”. The Kolawole character coined the above topic from the Arbaeen massacre by the Nigerian police in Kano that happened on the 14/11/2016 in which more than one hundred Shia Muslim mourners were killed by the Nigerian police and many more injured. The Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN) under the leadership of His Eminence Sheikh Ibrahim Zakzaky organize the Arbaeen Walk yearly where Nigerian Shia Muslims from various locations Trek to the iconic Husseiniya in Zaria to mark one of Shia Islam most important religious activities which is the Arbaeen. Due to the pogrom that occurred last December in which the Nigerian army mass-murdered close to one thousand Shia civilians and dumped their dead bodies in mass graves, some Nigerian Activists decided to join this year Arbaeen Walk. One of those Activist is Dr. John Danfulani who had shared his horrible experience in social media platforms of how the Nigerian police barbarically attacked the peaceful Shia mourners in Kano. Dr. Danfulani stated that the Nigerian police opened fire unprovoked on the Arbaeen mourners and killed many of them. When the Kolawole character claimed “The group is no longer confined to what used to be it’s enclave in Zaria, Kaduna state. It is desirous of spreading it’s influence – Plateau, Niger, Katsina, Kano, Sokoto, Yobe and other northern states are in it’s crosshair for the short term.” he is been sentimental to deceive the gullible observer. IMN have millions of membership in Nigeria and other West African countries and its members are peaceful and law-abiding in anywhere they exist. In my introduction of the Kolawole character I said he is a fictitious character use by the Nigerian army Chief Buratai, Kolawole underlined this when he wrote “IMN is testing the waters elsewhere. It found the Nigerian Army formidable and beat a tactical retreat. It fights the army and wages war against the military in the media and cyberspace. It’s experience cannot be disregarded. Iran provides tactical training for fighting on the streets while unleashing propaganda in the media and online. The truth placed the military above IMN.” Massacre of defenseless civilians will never make the Nigerian army “formidable”. Mass-murder of civilians are heinous war crimes that are condemned by all and the murderous criminals will be prosecuted one day. The International Criminal Court (ICC) have began investigation on the inhuman ZariaMassacre of last December and so the masters of the Kolawole character are uncomfortable with this development. To put pressure on IMN they created another front that IMN have attacked the Nigerian police. They said:”The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is IMN’s new test case. It appears to want to use it’s failed strategy against the army on the NPF. Fanatics attacked policemen on legitimate duty to stop a protest in Kano. They were intent on killing other Nigerians.” Those executing the evil foreign imperialist agenda in Nigeria that has the Saudi regime as a front are obsessed with Iran and the Kolawole character proved that here when he wrote:”The lies were coded by Iran. Proxies in Nigeria would deliver them. Dangerously Iran is sending more than lies to Nigeria. IMN members go to the Islamic Republic to acquire fighting skills. Iran sends in experts to manage propaganda for IMN. We are all reeling from the deluge of misinformation that proceed from this crime.” It is not Iran that is killing defenseless civilians in Nigeria, it is the agents of the Savage Saudi regime who are killing innocent Nigerian civilians and dumping their dead bodies in mass graves. The head of the Nigerian police claimed that the Arbaeen mourners were “armed to the teeth” and that was the reason why the police opened fire but when the Nigerian police displayed the “weapons” recovered they displayed cutlasses and Hijabs! It is impossible that responsible and sane IMN members will use cutlasses and Hijabs to fight heavily-armed police and soldiers. What happened was that Nigerian security forces attacked and killed Shia Muslim mourners on Arbaeen Walk. Fayose condemns Shi'ites killings, calls for ICC, AI probe By Doyin Adebusuyi, Ado Ekiti | Publish Date: Nov 17 2016 4:12PM Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose, has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC), Amnesty International and other world bodies to investigate the killing of members of Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN) otherwise known as Shi’ite Muslim group in Zaria, Kaduna and Kano states. The governor, who also called for the release of the leader of the sect, Ibrahim Zakzaky, described his detention and some of his members since last December as inhuman. He said their continued detention was a contravention of their fundamental human rights, and an affront on the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. Reacting to the latest onslaught of the Shi’ite Muslims in Kano State, which reportedly led to the death of over 10 people, Fayose, who spoke through his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, said; “murder of over 300 Nigerians, who are members of the IMN in one day and their burial in mass graves, as well as continuous murder of the Shi’ite sect should attract the attention of the ICC.” The governor said he was worried that firearms, which should only be used as a last resort, are now being used to prevent Nigerians from expressing their religious faith, adding that; “Under international human rights law governing the use of firearms during policing operations, the intentional use of lethal force is only permitted when strictly unavoidable, to protect life.” He described the detention of Ibrahim Zakzaky, since last year December as unjustifiable, saying; “In a month time, it will be exactly one year since Ibrahim Zakzaky was arrested and detained without trial. This is unacceptable in a democratic society where there should be strict adherence to the rule of law.” Governor Fayose also expressed worries over the persistent killings in the Southern Kaduna where four communities were invaded and over 30 persons, including pregnant women and children killed this week alone. Regrettably, federal government has kept mute.” “Democracy guarantees freedom of religion, movement, association, opinions and thoughts. It is, however, worrisome that inspite of these inalienable rights, members of the Shi’ite Muslim sect are still being persecuted and alienated. “Therefore, the ICC, Amnesty International and other relevant international organisations must intervene in the killings of the Shi’ite Muslim group with the aim of bringing those found culpable to justice, thereby putting a permanent stop to the inhuman acts,” the governor said. Nigerian Shiites Say Army Plans Attacks on Holy Day By THE ASSOCIATED PRESSNOV. 8, 2016, 2:33 P.M. E.S.T. KADUNA, Nigeria — Nigeria's army is planning attacks on Shiite processions scheduled Nov. 20, the Islamic Movement in Nigeria said Tuesday as the London-based Islamic Human Rights Commission asked Nigeria's president to ensure their protection. Nigeria's military did not respond to requests for comment Tuesday evening. The Nigerian army gunned down and killed some 300 Shiites in December and buried them secretly in a mass grave, according to an independent government-appointed committee into the killings in northern Zaria city. One soldier was killed. The Shiites say more than 1,000 were killed. Dozens remain in illegal military detention including leader Ibraheem Zakzaky, who was shot seven times and lost one eye. Nigeria's army accused the Shiites of trying to assassinate the country's army chief — a claim human rights groups call unbelievable. On Tuesday, Shiite spokesman Ibrahim Musa said Tuesday's appeal from the Islamic Human Rights Commission to President Muhammadu Buhari was based on reports from military intelligence officers privy to alleged plans to attack processions and burn members' businesses and homes. Shiites have antagonized other Nigerians by forcefully blocking main roads with processions that draw hundreds of thousands. Nigeria's 170 million people are equally divided between Christians and mainly Sunni Muslims. Zakzaky is believed to have about 5 million followers. The group has been attacked in the past. In 2014, soldiers opened fire on a procession, killing 34 people including three of Zakzaky's sons. Last month, the Shiite movement was outlawed in its home state of Kaduna, a move analysts warn could spark another Islamic uprising. The Shiites insist they are peaceful and note that suicide bombers of Boko Haram Islamic extremist group attacked a procession last year, killing several people. Boko Haram emerged as a much more radical and violent group after a military attack on its headquarters in northeast Maiduguri city in 2009 killed about 700 people. ___ Associated Press writer Michelle Faul contributed from Lagos, Nigeria. APCsupporter:You're very funny...you cant eat your cake and have it! Both Russia and China are staunch allies of Shia majority (Iraq,Iran,Lebanon) and Shia led (Syria) countries. It is Sunni countries, especially those following the Wahhabi ideology that are western puppets. |
iambijo:Doesn't the presence of kids indicate the procession or call it protest is meant to be peaceful? If the presence of kids doesn't give the procession immunity from being attack, then it means being a Shia Muslim or choosing one's beliefs freely is under threat or in danger. There is no guaranty that if those minors are kept at home or even under their beds, they will be safe once identified as children born to Shia parents. The freedom of people is at stake. You do not justify a wrong action by asking people to take precaution and hide their children. Tomorrow you may as well say Wahhabis or whoever do not like their faith and they should change. Is persecution justified? That is the ultimate demand as it appears, but is that right? Who is the next target? |

Stop attacking Shi'ites, Emir cautions Muslims Date: Oct 17 2016 7:27PM Stop attacking Shi'ites, Emir cautions Muslims The Emir of Argungu, Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera has called for caution over attacks on Shi'ite members in the country. “I think we need to be careful. If you look around the world, the problem between Sunni and Shiites is terrible for Islam and Muslims. I hope our religious leaders would step in so that we don’t drift into unwarranted violence and killings among ourselves," he said. Commenting on recent attacks in some states in northern Nigeria, the Emir said it was worrisome that citizens attack and kill one another cautioning that such could led to anarchy. "The gory pictures from Kaduna and Funtua, in Katsina state are so sad. Muslims picking arms against fellow Muslims. Muslims are not expected to pick arms against Christians or even atheist, how much more, fellow Muslims," he stated. Alhaji Mera stressed the need for the rules of law should always be allowed to take its course. “You find adherents of Sunia and Shiites everywhere, their differences was not pronounced as it is today in Nigeria, in the last five years, at least,” he added. The Emir pointed out “What we believe is that anybody who believes and follow the tenets of Islam are Muslims. How someone chooses to worship is between the person and his God." http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/news/general/stop-attacking-shi-ites-emir-cautions-muslims/167242.html#rXW21eRVPbuMkls5.99 |
Boyooosa:You're not making the intended sense to implicate the Shiites and particularly the IMN. In fact your posts vindicates them as being targeted for their religious beliefs. There are Salafist/Wahhabi groups and clerics in the north who share the same ideology as Boko haram, yet no one sees them as threat or as "baby Boko haram" to nip them in the bud. Izala is a Salafist/Wahhabi group. Ahmed Gumi is a Salafist/Wahhabi hate preacher. Their ideology is that Shiites are apostates and heretics. Find out what they believe should be done to apostates and you will not be shocked as to what is happening to Shiites. They believe Christians are indidels and impure. With the plethora of Wahhabi scholars and groups, all of a sudden you're scared of Shiites who in fact are a neutralizer to the Wahhabi menace and extremism because Shiites don't attack or fight people for holding different beliefs to theirs. Two days ago, a Sunni Wahhabi lecturer and cleric in sokoto university was boasting that the government crackdown on Shiites is due to the pressure of Sunni Wahhabi clerics on the government. You remember all the visits Sunni Wahhabi clerics from Saudi have been paying to Nigeria? Perhaps that's what the bragger is referring to. If Muslims believe the Shiite version or interpretation of Islam is what they want to follow and that is where the truth is, I don't understand the use or need for using force on people to change their mind. |
