That's why we should vote for a government that would take us industrial, and away from oil dependency.

We are not a rich nation and the looting you speak of makes the matter worse

Thank you and good morning
oil dependency is not a problem. Saudi Arabia, Iran, Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Kuwait etc ALL OF THEM were SOLELY DEPENDENT ON OIL and used their oil revenues to transform their literally DESERT COUNTRIES into global hubs of prosperity, but in Nigeria reverse was the case and the country sank deeper into poverty while some few extremely corrupt hands became multi-billionaires for life and 100 lifetimes to come. Even if Nigeria diversifies to other land or mineral resources, or even mind resources, same thing will happen all over again. It will be exploited and looted. Because the system of govt is so corrupt, in fact it is corruption personified. I remember watching on live TV when Saro Wiwa (God rest his soul) was sentenced to death. His crime was simply because he wanted better accountability and an a better environment and living conditions for his people and region. He was later hanged. Yet the people looting this country and sucking her soul dry back to back, if they ever get caught don't get beyond a slap on the wrist and are later released to enjoy their remaining loot, after some of it is collected or recovered to be re-looted by the same people in govt. Until we have a better justice system with zero tolerance for govt corruption and stealing, this country will keep running in circles. A country that executes an environment activist but spares corrupt massive looters that loot with impunity, is that one a country? Let them make death penalty laws for govt corruption and looting and watch how, and enforce it, the way they executed Saro Wiwa and watch how this country will start making progress. Watch how the thieves in govt will abandon ship. But this is NIGERIA, it can never happen because the thieves themselves are the ones in power grin Thanks for wishing me good morning. Have a nice day smiley

1. Russia also exports industrial products and some agricultural products.

They aren't at our level.

2. Nigeria has a very high population, and the amount we earn from oil is not enough. We don't export industrial products, and our agric sector is poor and hampered by obsolete methods
We don't export, we don't have industry, your agric sector is poor...etc all this excuses boil down to bad leadership. No country met good agric sector in the world, no industrialized country in this world met the machines and industries in their country. They built it, they built it all themselves because they had good leadership with visionary leaders in government. Your country is a serious mess nearly beyond redemption because it has been unfortunate to have the worst set of government in this world successively. Our oil earnings are not enough? Are you joking or what huh Since 1960, Nigeria is estimated to have earned over $$$$$ 600 billion (USD) in crude oil earnings alone, yet the country has nothing significant to show for it. Did they share the money with the population or what, because I don't understand this your claim and blame on the population. Did the FG govt or state govt ever pay some of its crude oil revenue to you as a citizen? What amenities did they provide. This is 2020, many places in this country don't have govt water, terrible roads all over, poor social infrastructure, the few govt amenities that exist are nothing to write home about, like govt hospitals etc, go to civil service, rotten to the core, what of armed forces, go to their barracks, decay and suffering everywhere.... Citizens provide their own water, pay for their own vigilante security, carry all kinds of social amenities burdens on their neck because they have the most useless govt. Yet you are blaming population? Was Nigeria always estimated as 180m, was it not recently (about a year ago) we were put at this number. Abeg all your excuses don't hold water at all. This country is just unfortunate to have had chronic thieves in power since it was formed. Shift your blame where the blame really lies..... Or is it the 180 million Nigeria masses that spent N81.5 billion within 4 months as detailed in the picture below?

Saudi Arabia produces 11 million barrels of oil a day and has 11 million people.

Nigeria produces 2.3 million barrels of oil a day, and has 200million people

Do the math
That's not the reason. Saudi produces it's crude oil at a very efficient production costs, sometimes as low as under $10 per barrel and this gives it huge margin gains and profits when it sells the crude oil. But your country Nigeria crude oil production costs is as high as $30 per barrel. Which shows how inefficiently corrupt your government and the crude oil sector is. It is massive unabated corruption that is responsible for it, not population. Are we the only oil country with about 180m people? Russia sells oil, have about around the same population range with us, are we even anywhere close to Russia in terms of national development or citizens average standard of living?

Saudi Arabia's King Salman was admitted to the King Faisal specialist hospital for tests related to gall bladder inflammation, according to the official Saudi Press Agency
Bandar AL-JALOUD

Saudi Arabia's 84-year-old ruler King Salman was admitted to hospital in Riyadh Monday for gall bladder inflammation, the royal court said, prompting the postponement of the Iraqi prime minister's high-profile visit.

It is rare for Saudi Arabia to report on the health of the ageing monarch, who has ruled the top oil exporter and the Arab world's biggest economy since 2015.

The king was "admitted today to King Faisal specialist hospital in Riyadh for some medical tests due to cholecystitis," inflammation of the gall bladder, the royal court said in a statement released by the official Saudi Press Agency.

The announcement made around 4:30 am (0130 GMT) did not disclose any further details.

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhemi's scheduled visit to Saudi Arabia, which was due to start on Monday, has been postponed after the king's hospitalisation, according to the Saudi foreign minister.

"In recognition of the extremely important visit and a desire to make it a success, our wise leadership in coordination with our brothers in Iraq have decided to postpone the visit" until the king leaves hospital, Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan wrote on Twitter.

Hours before Kadhemi was to set off on his first trip abroad as premier, his office said they heard King Salman was suffering from "a sudden health issue".

"It was decided to postpone the visit to the earliest possible date agreed upon by the two sides," his office said in a statement.

Iraq's oil, finance, electricity and planning ministers arrived in Saudi Arabia on Sunday to begin meetings ahead of Kadhemi's visit, Iraqi officials told AFP.

The delegation is set to return to Baghdad after the meetings wrap up on Monday afternoon.

Under the king's rule, Saudi Arabia launched ambitious economic reforms for a post-oil era and gave more rights to women, but also adopted a more assertive foreign policy and entered a war in neighbouring Yemen.

King Salman took the throne after the death of his half-brother Abdullah, who was around 90 years old.

In 2017, Saudi Arabia dismissed reports and mounting speculation that the king was planning to abdicate in favour of his young son, Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman, who is widely seen as the de facto ruler.

"There is no possibility whatsoever that the king will abdicate," an unnamed Saudi official told Bloomberg News, adding that Saudi kings usually remain in power even when poor health prevents them from carrying out their responsibilities.

Prince Mohammed's meteoric rise to power has coincided with a sweeping crackdown on critics and dissenters, as well as royal family members.

Saudi Arabia has been engulfed by a series of controversies since he was named crown prince and heir to the throne in June 2017.

That includes the brutal October 2018 murder of royal insider-turned-critic Jamal Khashoggi by Saudi agents at the kingdom's consulate in Istanbul.

Emeka Okwuome assaults 14 yr old in bathroom.

Respectively in Ijegun and Ejigbo. In Lagos state.

On nairaland, I came across one statistics of crime rate per state in Nigeria. It was uploaded to explain one jaundiced impression about people leading in crime.

From the two rape cases above in Lagos, it is obvious who the champions are. Note, it is 99% impossible to have Ayodele or Ibrahim involved in crime outside his region.
stop this. Crime cuts across all countries, all races, all tribes, all colors. Condemn the crime, condemn the criminals but don't condemn a race, or tribe, or country for the sins of a few. Hushpuppi, Woodberry, Invictus etc are all arrested fraud scammers for huge money, will you be happy if the international community labels the entire Nigeria as fraudsters because of that. Should every Nigerian be labelled a fraudster? I'm not a fraudster, will never be a fraudster, no matter how many Nigerians are caught for fraud. This early Monday morning, no need for tribal fight abeg. Thanks

CrimeMan Defiles 11-yr-old Girl In Church, Widower Assaults 14-yr-old Inside Bathroom by Openbusiness4(op): 8:04am On Jul 20, 2020
While a 33 years old man, Maurice Peters, 33, was arrested for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl inside a Church located at Tijani Qudus Street, Ijegun, a widower, aged 55, assaulted a 14-year-old girl in a bathroom at Ejigbo, both in Lagos State.

The 55-year-old father of three, identified as Emeka Okwuome, was caught inside the bathroom, while he was assaulting the primary six pupil.

Vanguard gathered that the 14-year-old victim lost her mother and was brought from her home town to live with a relative at 22, Oladuni Street.

She had gone to take her bath on Friday, when the suspect, a trader at Ladipo Market, knocked on the bathroom door and ordered the girl to open for him.

Meanwhile, Vanguard gathered, the building had three bathrooms.

During a chat with the victim, she disclosed that it was not the first time the widower would assault her sexually.

According to her, “he met me in the kitchen one day and started handling my breasts. He pulled me close to him and released me when he heard footsteps approaching.

“And he warned me never to tell anybody what happened.

“I was bathing on Friday when I heard a knock. He said he was the one and ordered me to open the door, that he wanted to urinate. I opened the door out of fear.

“When he came in, he started handling with my breasts and inserted his fingers into my virginal. When I told him to leave me alone, he said if I shouted he would beat me.

“He covered my mouth with one of his hands, but I continued moaning in pains until one of our neighbours, who wanted to a bath asked how many people were in the bathroom.

“The neighbour insisted she would not leave there until those in the bathroom came out.”

It’s the devil— Suspect
On his part, the suspect admitted culpability, blaming the devil for his action.

Asked why he had to assault the teenager in the bathroom, he replied: “It was the devil’s handiwork. I went to look for the devil

“When I came out, I begged the woman not to expose me, but she did. I have also begged the police to allow us to settle the matter among both parties, but they refused.

“If I go to jail, who will take care of my children, especially my daughter who is mentally deranged?”

Meanwhile, the second suspect, Peters, reportedly took the 11-year-old girl to a Church, where he allegedly defiled her.

Like Okwuome, he was caught in the act and both suspects were charged before the Ogba Magistrate’s Court.

Foreign AffairsAt Least 14 Dead In China As Yangtze River Rises 50ft Above Flood Level by Openbusiness4(op): 8:58pm On Jul 19, 2020
Communities along the Yangtze - the country's longest river - have been the worst affected by the annual monsoon season.

China's longest river has risen more than 50ft (15m) above flood level, as the country struggles with some of the most severe flooding in years.

At least 14 people have died and tens of thousands of others evacuated as central and southern parts of China are ravaged by floods caused by torrential rain.

Communities along the Yangtze, which flows from west to east, have been the worst affected by the annual monsoon season.

Three floodgates of the Three Gorges Dam that spans the Yangtze were opened as the water level behind the massive structure rose more than 15m above flood level, the official Xinhua News Agency reported.

Vast swathes of China have been inundated by the worst flooding in decades along the Yangtze river

The dam was holding back about 45% of the water, it said.

Earlier this week, authorities warned the country was entering a "critical period" with some 433 rivers affected by the floods - 33 of them reaching record water levels.

China's ministry of water resources said the situation along the Yangtze, as well as Dongting Lake in Hunan province, and Poyang Lake and Taihu Lake in Jiangxi province, was "severe".

The Yangtze is an important waterway in the country, irrigating large areas of farmland and linking industries along its inland corridor with the financial hub of Shanghai on China's central eastern coast.

Images showed residents building makeshift barriers with sandbags and rocks to keep the floodwaters at bay.

A house topples over due to the flooding in China's central Jiangxi province. Eleven people were killed in Chongqing, China National Emergency Broadcasting reported. More than 20,000 people had been evacuated and 1,031 homes destroyed.

Three landslides in Dunhao town in a mountainous part of Chongqing left six dead, the city's Emergency Management Bureau said.

Three others died in neighbouring Hubei province, the emergency management department said.

Firefighters and workers finished filling in a 620ft break in a dyke on Poyang Lake, China's largest freshwater lake, Xinhua said.

The dyke gave way nine days ago, flooding 15 villages and farmland in Jiangxi province. More than 14,000 people were evacuated.

Residents have been putting up makeshift flood defences.
Poyang Lake, which is formed from the overspill of the Yangtze, is 2.5m higher than its warning level and has swelled by more than 2,000 sq km (772 square miles) during this flood season.

It comes as China continues to deal with the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Major cities have been spared from the flooding so far.

However on Friday, the central city of Wuhan - where the coronavirus emerged late last year - and the provinces of Anhui, Jiangxi and Zhejiang declared red alerts as heavy rain swelled rivers and lakes
