luckygirl02: It's either she changed or the husband can't handle his wife fame. Some men really have inferiority complex. But that's their problem anyway. I am only concerned with how Nigeria will get better. I wonder why people are blaming the girl. The guy refused to grab the fame and use it to his advantage; develop himself and evolve. Imagine he learnt a skill, create an Instagram handle and advertise himself to the world. His wife's fame would have pushed him further. Rather, dude turned to a babysitter and was expecting his wife to bring money home, and expect her not to get dicked in the process. Mumu. |

It happened in 5 situations now as seen in the picture below. It is believed that whenever drake takes a selfie with any footballer from a club, the team goes on to loose their next game.

Same thing I told a colleague this past week. If you marry and have kids early, if at a long run you're still struggling to provide for them, the kids would at a time wish you never gave birth to them, or wish a rich person was their father. Which insult is worse than that? |

Ladies & gentlemen, we are about to witness what I call the Negro Delusion Syndrome (NDS). A common condition among apes where an ape begins to hallucinate about things that do not exist.
Madam, whites perfected your formal educational system, science, religion, laws, immigration, government systems, healthcare, art / literature, financial institutions, transportation, warfare, architecture etc.
Hell, they even came down here and changed your own culture for you! Now Yorubas think they own Agbadas & Aso Oke, Igbos think the George and Isi Agu belongs to them and Hausa/Fulanis think they own babaringas. All these attires are made from materials invented / perfected by whites!
Please ma, list ONE THING Blacks gave the world? The whites didn't meet the yorubas naked. Go and read more about it. I don't know about the rest though. |

Op, as for your future questions, one step at a time is all I can tell you. Learn igbo first, since you say you often find yoruba speakers willing to teach you yoruba, you can also pick one or two words during a conversation. However, devote more time to learning Igbo. Who knows, your kids might even be more passionate than you in their time. And I believe the Igbo language is not gonna die. Stop worrying about future events, when you get to that bridge, you will cross it.
Another suggestion I would like to make is, listen to Igbo songs, then ask any igbo person around you for the meaning of some expressions. That will also help. |

uchefefe: The bolded are good points. I guess I shouldn't let my frustrations get to me. I just get tired becuase it's not as if I want someone to sit down and give me lessons every day. Just speak to me in it, point out some objects a few times a day and tell me their meaning, anything. When I was putting effort into Yoruba, I always had friends willing to teach me and speak to me in the language. Maybe I will have to look online and find a tutor somewhere.
In your personal experience, do Igbo people in Nigeria often speak their language the way Yoruba people do?
I would like insight onto how you came to this conclusion. I think it will help me. As for that question, Yes they do in Lagos where I reside. However, there was a thread created by a guy who was frustrated at the fact that igbo people don't speak the language like yoruba speak theirs. He pointed out several instances. You will find the thread here, it was created not quite long (I think this year). Also, during my NYSC, I nearly had a scuffle with one of my Corps member over this issue of language. I served in a yoruba state, she was posted to the same school that I was serving. She and some other corps often complain that we Yorubas speak our language too often, and that it isn't the case in the east. I got angry not because she was totally wrong, but because she saw it as a bad thing, and bragged that igbo people speak English more than they do their language. Then I wondered why she should bragged of such? I thought she was being mischievous because when in the midst of Igbo people, they often speak in their mother tongue, until I came across the thread, and realised that she wasn't entirely lying. Albeit the way she bragged about it got me pissed of. It's a shameful thing. Some Yorubas are also like that, preventing their kids from speaking the language, my sister is guilty of this. I have preached the beauty of being bi or multilingual to her, all to no avail. Her kids can hardly say two words in yoruba, which shouldn't be. But I'm sure they will learn when they grow up. |
Crime › Re: My Phone Was Stolen And Money Withdrawn From My Bank Account by Opiletool(m): 8:27pm On Apr 04, 2019 |
manitobor: On the first of April 2019, I boarded an intra-city vehicle and dropped at my destination unaware that a guy sitting beside me in the bus had stolen my phone from my pocket. The bus I boarded had picked the guy on the way and he sat next to me. I had no inkling at all that he had the intention of picking my pocket though something told me that this guy's way 'no pure' as he was casting uncanny and surreptitious glances towards my direction, with a weird look on his face. Little did I know he was busy with my pocket.
It was several minutes after I had alighted at my destination that I realised that my smartphone was missing from my pocket. I used a friend's phone to dial my number and found out that the criminal had already switched it off. I resigned to fate knowing fully well that my chances of getting back the phone was slim. I however kept dialling my number till evening, it was still switched off. 6 AM in the morning of 2nd April I dialled my number again and it was ringing but wasn't picked up at the other end. After a few more attempts, the rogue switched off the phone again.
I decided to contact MTN that day to block the line, which they did. However, to my chagrin, when I went to the ATM that same morning to make a withdrawal, I found out the my account balance had changed and that the criminals have succeeded in withdrawing some thousands of Naira from my account. I rushed inside the bank immediately and blocked the account.
What I am still dazed about is how it's possible for criminals to withdraw money from someone's bank account just by getting hold of the sim card. Mind you, my phone can only be accessed via a PIN, so the possibility of them making a transfer using my bank's mobile app is ruled out. So how did they do it?
Has anyone ever been victim of such? Please share so others can learn.
Mods, can you please move to front page so others can learn? Thanks. Probably recharged through the line, especially with MTN sending that stupid recharge directly from your bank account message every dn time one's airtime go low. Same thing happened to me last year. I found out at the MTN office when I went to retrieve my line, and was told that there was about 3k airtime on the line. I quickly rushed down to bank, requested for statement of account, and realised those fools have been recharging through MTN code. MTN is really stupid with that move. |

uchefefe: I know Nigerian Pidgin fairly well actually.
I do plan on learning all of them someday. I don't want to just scratch the surface with them though; I want to learn them deeply and fluently. It is difficult to balance that with also working on my doctorate. I will take what you said into account thought, that may be a good approach!
See I really do want to, but it feels as though it has so many more obstacles than the other languages. Learning in the U.S. I have to use books and dictionaries that use Izugbe. Because Izugbe isn't a real dialect I've learned Igbo that no one actually uses to speak. The first time I went to Nigeria and tried talking with my aunts and uncles, none of them understood what I was trying to say becuase Izugbe is so different compared to their dialect. There's also olilo uduame which makes it incredible difficult for me to understand what people are saying. On top of that, Igbo people seem really reluctant to help or even speak the language (at least abroad). I grew up outside of Ala Igbo, but I did belong to a small Igbo community with around 30 adults. I asked all of them and only one was actually willing to help me after my father refused to teach me, the rest just dismissed me. In addition, all the Igbo people in my generation I've met at colleges can't speak Igbo. Even many of my cousins don't speak the language despite being born and raised in Ala Igbo. My experience is limited, so I ask is the language really thiving and worth learning like the other two? I really do understand your plight, but I'll advise ou go for that which your heart really desires, which I can deduce is igbo, and which I still insist you learn considering the fact that it's your parent's tongue. See, I am yoruba, and if I'd been in your shoes, I'll go for my language, not for my sake, but for my unborn kids'. You will not give birth and start teaching them a language that is not of their people will you? You can break the odds, come and enroll for Igbo class over here in Nigeria. People will hardly want to teach you because it takes lots of effort and time. And considering the fact that money is not involved (joking). We have whites studying our indigenous languages over here. I knew of two back then in yoruba linguistics department of my school(university), so, if white people could go through all the troubles, why can't you? |
