Fantastic! Fantastic!! Fantastic!!!

Govenor Dave Nweze Umahi is truly "Aku-bara-Oha 1"!!!

I cannot believe what I have just seen is actually in Ebonyi state! Chai, God bless that man o!

Many African countries and even some Eastern European countries don't even have an international airport terminal building that is this massive!

The effort now is to develop the tourism potential of Ebonyi state to attract many visitors and businesses to the state and keep this airport among the busiest in West Africa.

IGBOSON1:
My sentiments down to a T!

In the past one or two years in the south-east, we’ve seen new big-ticket projects (capable of serving as economic drivers/multipliers and a catalyst to uplift other sectors of the economy and society) being launched only in Anambra, Ebonyi and Abia to a lesser extent (GEOMETRIC power plant)!

Meanwhile, other states or regions are using the political/economic advantages they’ve acquired for themselves over the past decades of operating a unitary national gov’t to attract multi-billion dollar industries and initiatives to their own states/regions, while some of their states (like Lagos, Rivers, Kano and Kaduna) can, to a large extent, run on their own steam courtesy of these political/economic advantages garnered over the past decades!

Some may not realise it, but the subtext to your submission points to the need for every region to have the capacity to have their own ‘Lagos’….their own centre for cultural, social and economic interaction with the global community, so each region can sell themselves to the outside world to the best of their ability and develop at their own pace using their own human and natural resources which wouldn’t be appropriated by others or lost in the ‘unified’ confusion that is ‘one Nigeria’! Basically, i’m talking of the need for a TRUE Nigerian federation….not one only in name, while reality on the ground is the opposite!

The damage for our entertainers to first have to go to Lagos in order to make it globally cannot be quantified! We may not like to hear this, but some have appropriated Lagos for themselves and see our presence there as an ‘irritant’! They can easily use their control of the machinery of state governance to frustrate us in many ways, and this has actually been happening….mostly codedly!

Part of the problem is also self-inflicted, as we’re a bit docile in promoting and hyping our own! In the late 50s and 60s, some of the best Nigerian entertainers came from the East…mainly of Igbo and Ijaw extraction! This was a period when there was true federalism and each region didn’t have to first go to Lagos in order to be a success. Though Lagos, even then, was still the cultural and entertainment capital of Nigeria, this prominent position was achieved organically as then ALL Nigerians saw Lagos as theirs without one group or ethnicity claiming it and its governance!

The dangers and unfairness in operating a unitary system of national governance in such a pluralistic and diverse country as Nigeria can also be seen in how the Anambra airport has seen NO federal push to see it grow beyond what the state gov’t has done! There’s zero effort from Abuja in seeing it can handle one or two international destinations, even though it’s one of the most functional and best equipped airports in the country! Can you imagine Hadi Sirika hasn’t visited the airport even for once!

Also, we see the negative impact of operating a unitary system of national governance in how they’ve been playing mind-games with that Onitsha river port…almost mirroring the way they used 2nd Niger bridge for political football! Leaving aside the fact that it’s possible to upgrade Onitsha river port to a sea port (yes, a bit difficult and capital intensive, but still possible), the little river port operations that are possible and easily achievable are yet to commence! All we’ve seen thus far are teasing and empty platitudes and promises of commencement of operations! Remember we’re not just talking of any other town or city here! We’re talking of Onitsha…..a city that held so much promise in the 50s and 60s, and was once one of the centres of gravitational pull for commerce in West and Central Africa!
@ bolded, 100%!!
Many Igbos think they cannot succeed in anything unless they are in Lagos! I'm glad that INNOSON showed them that you can survive even in Nnewi if you know your business very well.

I love that you called out "Lagos" in your submission. The urge for Igbos to always take everything they invent to other regions A.K.A "Lagos" where they often end up losing it or are relegated to second fiddle due to the Nigerian factor is sad.

I'm glad that some of them who left Onitsha's fledgling film industry for Lagos in the early 2000s but were finally edged out of the Lagos film industry due to the "Nigerian factor" were able to organize themselves and return back to Asaba. Where they kept the light of Nollywood on in that city. The multiplier effect now is the addition of the new Asaba film village and leisure park.

Great information Sir! Thank you so much for taking the time to explain this history of filmmaking to those who always doubt if modern Nollywood originated in Onitsha or not.

It is obvious that the BIGGEST weakness of Ndigbo is the ability to IMPROVE anything from its initial basic model/version. Like the Chinese, we are expert copiers but unlike the Chinese that continuously improve their initial model/version, we pay little attention to innovation and improvements. Thus, once something is successful, we copy it exactly without trying to improve our version of it to match the current or future trends of the same thing. If we had improved the Mike Orihedimma model instead of trying to repeat it exactly for many decades after the 1970s until it became obsolete, we would have been somewhere now. Those types of Mike Orihedimma Igbo traditional films would be on Netflix now competing with other international standard films.

The reason I LOVE Flavour and Phyno is that they understood that playing Hi-Life did not mean performing it exactly like Osadebe, Oliver De Coque, or Morrocco did in the 1970s. They understood that they had to work hard to adapt the beats and evolve Hi-Life to the current trends of the 2000s so that it would remain relevant and not an archaic beat of the 1970s.

That is what we must imbibe as Ndigbo today. We should strive to IMPROVE on what we had and not blindly copy everything without making any effort whatsoever to improve anything. Then we would wonder why people find it tasteless or inferior to currently trendy technology and modern ways of doing the same thing.

That is also exactly why crude toys and fabrications do not impress me. Since we need to jettison and discard the cultural idea of "awalawa". Which literally translates as producing an inferior quality of something instead of aiming to improve on what is already available. We must strive to improve anything that we wish to copy instead of aiming to make a substandard version of the original thing. The same mental mindset of continuous improvement should be applied to our culture, our music, our industrial products, and the way our schools, markets, hospitals, and cities are built. That is the way to evolve as a modern society when we strive to always make things better, and not always blindly copy to produce a substandard version of anything we do. That is the way we can continue to grow from strength to strength as Ndigbo.
The idea espoused in this post is the reason I hailed Obiano for striving to build a modern airport with a longer runway and modern facilities than what we already had in Owerri or Enugu.

It is also the same reason I am currently hailing Dave Umahi for upping the standard in his new airport facility, modern Abakaliki mall design, modern university structures at the King David University of Medicine, and using flyovers instead of a roundabout to solve serious traffic gridlock points in his state.

We should force our leaders and people to IMPROVE on what is already obtainable than sticking to the mindset of "awalawa" and creating substandard quality of what we had already achieved several decades ago. That is the only way to grow from strength to strength as a people.

Mike Orihedịmma— The First Man to Start Igbo Movies in the whole world.

His real name is Solomon Eze. Popularly known as Mike Orihedịmma.

Popular Nollywood stars such as John Okafọ—Mr Ibu, Ngọzi Ezeọnụ, Stephen Alajemba (Ụwaezuoke), etc came into movie life through him.

Mike Orihedịmma started in the 70s. He was a friend with Oliver De Coque. According to him in his interview with Ugwumba TV, he said while Oliver was playing guitar and ekpiri, he was playing mouth organ.

Oliver would finally got sponsored in 1975 and release his album, expo 76. He too went in search of sponsor and couldn't get any even though he had recorded songs and produced them in cassettes.

He noticed that it would make sense if films were produced in Igbo. He had watched Indian movies, French movies and decided to replicate Igbo films.

Then, there was nothing like Nollywood. A few television series like Zeburudaya, Ichoku, Ifesinachi were showing on NTA and were popular in the 70s. Things Fall Apart would later showed up in 1980s where Pete Edochie acted as Okonkwọ.

Mike Orihedịmma gathered a lot of people. He was looking for sponsors but couldn't get any. He started a program called "Ka Ụwa Si Aga"

He started from radio. But said he want his face to be known. NTA was promising him. ABS started then, they were promising him. None gave him platform. Come today and come tomorrow. He started producing films in cassette.

From "Ka Ụwa Si Aga", he started "Okpuru Anyanwụ."

Ngọzi Ezeọnụ was into makeup then. Mike Orihedịmma brought her into her first ever film. Mr. Ibu started through Mike Orihedịmma.

Ụwaezuoke was taken to Mike Orihedịmma by a man he often changed his clothes in his shop who saw him as a talented man.

Mike Orihedịmma made many actors and actresses. He produced Nwaude Nwakpụda.

The Igbo films we know today started through him.

The first film he produced is called "Ọtaakị."

Maazị Mpịrịmpị was popular TV series in the 80s as well.

His name was very popular in the 70s and 80s as well as 90s.

Mike Orihedịmma became a popular name.

He hailed from Ihitenansa, Imo State.

He is late now.

He made English films as well.

I'm disgusted and ashamed by this reportage from the presenter.

How can she call Anambra an unknown hub for movies?
This is a quite unfortunate.

Back in 2000s ,most nollywood movies watched here in Cameroon were mostly from Onitsha .
You can't decide movies in WestAfrican sub region without a city like Onitsha.

I think there's an implicit agenda to hide treasures of Igbo region to the outside world.

I made some research and I found what I expected
Exactly the same thing is happening in the music industry. They are frantically frustrating Hi-Life genre of music and now call fuji "afrobeat" grin

My only problem is WHY Southeastern producers cannot borrow a leaf from their northern Kannywood counterparts and just totally do their own thing independently? Northern movies continued their own thing until they finally polished themselves and even made it into Netflix!

Why must southeastern producers attach to someone else to feel complete? ? ? ? ? ? Is it a sort of complex or lack of self-confidence in their own ability?

This is long overdue. Especially if you recall that modern Nollywood practically started in Onitsha, but due to a lack of infrastructure and a harsh environment, it moved to Asaba and helped to grow the city.

One really hopes that those ruling Anambra would see how we have continuously lost every investment due to the gross lack of infrastructure and a very unconducive environment. We really need to fix Anambra and make it the liveable homeland that Soludo promised.

I tell you!

One reason why i miss Obiano is QUALITY!

Everything Obiano did was above the usual Anambra standard! He was the first Anambra Governor that I'm aware of that built a DUAL-Carriage way from start to finish! Every other Anambra Governor would have opted to do the usual single-lane tiny road to the airport, which will be hopefully dualized in the far future (If ever!)

God bless Soludo who has actually started working on many roads across the state! I just hope that Soludo would keep a keen eye on QUALITY in whatever he does. I am impressed with his efforts so far to address potholes and make Awka roads pleasurable to drive on. However, his road inspectors should ensure that the road level is ALWAYS above the gutter level. So that water can easily flow from the road surface into the gutters. Instead of some situations where the gutter is higher than the road surface, so even with gutters beside the roads, the roads are water-logged because the water on the road cannot flow into the gutter.

Why don't you and Chino take this argument to the Owerri thread? We shall gladly come there to comment positively on the great strides happening in Owerri. Instead of bringing it here as some type of negative thing that we should be annoyed that it happened in Igboland.

Granted that Owerri has indeed modernized greatly under the regime of Rochas. Even Uzodinma has tried to modernize the city further amd plant flowers to beautify it. We are all very happy to see positive developments in Igboland. But, this is Anambra thread talking about Soludo's modernization agenda. So lets focus on Anambra events here and Owerri events in the Imo thread. Rather than distractions and stirring negative spirits against positive developments in Igboland.

I agree absolutely, however Anambra has to start from somewhere no matter how small...................The kind of modernization you envisage will be quite invasive......a lot of demolition and relocation of infrastructure ( something we can ill afford now). Let me assure you that whatever infrastructure you put in place will be swarmed and overwhelmed in no time!

I drove all the way from Enugu to Igbuzor.....then all the way to Port harcourt via Ughelli last summer!( a trip I did thrice) ! Nigerian cities are not well run and administered.............Activities and transactions that ought to be done in designated facilities and complexes are carried out right on the roads or walkways. Even those who own stores carry out all their wares unto the road in the name of sampling..........welders,carpenters,funeral homes, block industries all have their showrooms on the roadway and walkways.........it is exponentially worse in Alaigbo! From headbridge in onitsha to the old toll gate ,it is bedlam all the way.....keke,wheelbarrows,container semis, commuter buses all on top of each other!

I remember when Amaechi implemented his policy of frontal fences not being no higher than 6feet and fences had to be see through as well, the whole GRAs outlook changed overnight for the better! We are saying the same thing o but we differ on the ways to get to our target goal! Onitsha metro is built up and hardly any room to expand......bulk of the money for urban renewal should be saved for developing new towns in and around Awka.....................Decongest Onitsha, maintain existing infrastructure, expand where possible and improve municipal services........let the private sector modernise and introduce new services and businesses!
@bolded. That is the crux of the matter!

The type of houses in Nigerian cities such as Onitsha are way better than houses in many European capitals. However, because the whole place is unplanned, with lots of bad roads and overflowing trash everywhere, no sane person would like to live in a Nigerian city.

Thus, a total lack of town planning code and appalling bad roads with overflowing trash everywhere is what turned Nigerian cities into slums. If you look at the quality of buildings, you will agree that Nigerian cities have better buildings than many European cities. Only that the European cities have paved streets, without trash all over the place and of course the buildings are better organized.

Black and yellow state... May Soludo keep succeeding, and Anambra keep soaring
This is really heartwarming to see. I arrived in the state for the 3rd time this year and observed a simmering disillusionment among the people.

I hope that Gov. Soludo will be mindful that apart from patching up roads, the people had high hopes that he would deliver concrete projects that would leap-frog the state into the Dubai he promised.

There were 4 key projects that had been identified as cornerstones to accelerating industrialization and commerce in the state. One of which was the Anambra International Airport project which Chief Obiano managed to deliver before leaving office.

The other three are:
1. The Orient Refineries Project
2. The Anambra Light Rail Network
3. The Anambra Independent Power Plant and Natural gas network

One hopes that Gov. Soludo will endeavor to achieve one or more of these cornerstone projects before leaving office. Anambra people do have very high hopes that Gov. Soludo would open up the future of industrialization and build a liveable homeland by finding finances for these cornerstone projects that would spur the growth of other industries.

It was so refreshing to see that Gov. Soludo has started operation zero potholes in the major cities of Anambra.

If Soludo could repair every pothole in Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, and other cities before the next rainy season, he would have contributed greatly towards the habitability of these cities.

Hopefully the current effort at closing potholes within our cities are sustained for once. That will be a phenomenal achievement in transformation of Anambra cities by Soludo's anniversary.

Anyway, i will not attack Peter Obi. You have FAILED in your childish prank.

All i would tell you is that even Peter Obi could not dispute Obiano's rebuttal that the phantom money was not as stated.

Again at the twilight of his regime, everyone was aware that Peter Obi kept flagging off new roads, hired 10,000 new workers and a plethora of abandoned projects such as Agulu and Onitsha hotels, Awka, Nnewi and Onitsha malls to name a few. The fact that he does not mention the liabilities and how much it cost Obiano to complete them speaks volumes about his character.

Whether you like it or not, Peter Obi had very limited capacity to achieve big projects, and thus focused his effort on achieving only the millennium development goals , while Obiano had great dreams for Anambra state and huge personal capacity to lead people towards achieving great feats. Thus, he focused his attention on landmark projects to help Anambra become the great state that it is today.

While i wish Obi victory in 2023, it should not be done on the alter of forcefully claiming all Obiano's achievements as his own. We were all here when Obi refused to even acknowledge or use the Anambra International Airport! Even after Andy Uba and Ngige had done so and publicly praised Obiano for achieving the age long dream that they all played limited roles in helping to secure the land when they were governors. Till date , Obi has not publicly commended Obiano for achieving the dream of Anambra people to own an airport since 1982! Shamelessly claiming that the project he criticized an unnecessary waste of funds was indeed his brainchild just because Obiano ignored him and worked very hard to deliver the project!

Today, Soludo is working very hard to execute his vision for the state. While Peter Obi is busy junketting Nigeria for his personal ambitions. When Soludo succeeds, Peter Obi will go and meet the governor of Nassarawa state to claim Soludo's achievements as his own.

I'm not impressed by all these cutting cost of governance and travelling economy class. That to me is playing to the gallery and we have moved way beyond that phase. Anambra is not a poor state and now every governor will be judged by their projects and records, IGR etc not lifestyle.
The problem is how to increase IGR, expand income from taxes and levies WITHOUT overburdening of the taxpayers.

I think Soludo's finance commissioner and budget&Planning team are intellectually lazy to dream up new sources of revenue and expand the tax base.

For instance, i was in Awka to inspect my building projects. Now, there are more than 10,000 plots of land in just the new estate alone! All the landlords had applied for C of O from the government and the state government officials said that they were not issuing any! Mind you, each land owner in the estate was willing to pay 200k each for a C of O from Anambra state government , yet they won't issue and gain the revenue. Instead, the only idea that comes to their head is how to increase taxes on keke snd okada operators! This is why Soludo needs those exposed to internal revenue services abroad to advise him. Than the current clueless people in the finance ministry.

Again as i previously mentioned , Anambra csn quadruple its IGR simply by creating an agency that enforced traffic laws. Those who contravene traffic laws are fined 10k to 25k on the spot! The money must be paid via POS or bank transfer to avoid leakages from cash payments. If Anambra had s traffic agency like LASTMA whose job depended on meeting stipulated quota, they will apprehend traffic violators and make Anambra roads safer. While helping to generate revenue for their continued employment and boosting the state's IGR.

Why is Ebonyi owing workers and building phanthom flyovers?

Workers pay must be prioritized first over white elephant projects by the governor.

Its pure wickedness to owe workers that you can comfortably pay. Just to divert their salaries to avenues where you will get kickback.

What about the arrears placed in an account until the Commission determined if Anambra's oil had indeed been paid to Imo and Delta states by the fraudulent Indian company?

Meanwhile, Soludo is doing his best to cut down the cost of governance. He travels to Abuja alone, and flies economy class with every other passengers on the flight.

May God help him to find the funds for his transformational agenda for the state.

No place like home. Enjoy your good work Akpokuedike Agulueri...

Chest beaters bragged he is on the run and will never returned back to Nigeria...
While HE. Willie Obiano is in Anambra enjoying his good work.
Obiano deserves a hero's welcome each time he is back home.
His vision is still gradually unfolding for Anambra.

Imagine that a pilot told me that the airport was one of the few in the country where aviation fuel was constantly available. To top it up. They don't play with safety while refueling aircrafts. They even pull out a crash tender to stand by even for just refueling. Talk about doing things by international standards.

God bless Willie Obiano and may God help Soludo to suceed even more than Obiano!

Again, let me use this opportunity to dispel the lies by one online media man, Njenje Media that claimed the airport could not sit up to 100 people. I counted 634 seats just in the upper deck alone! On the day i flew to Abuja from there, i came quite early in order to do a thorough inspection of the facility and have documented picture evidence for the future. When people would throw out their lies.

Meanwhile, the seats were not crammed together. In fact, you could add more if you wanted. All these lies just to convey the false impression that Anambra International Airport was not standard just to spite the builder of the facility is very shameful.

But Oseloka Obaze was later called by Obi in 2017 which you also supported them and they collectively got the beating of their live with both of them losing their polling units to Obiano. Listen Obaze will never become Anambra Governor and Obi will never make a godson Anambra governor, the earlier you accept this truth instead of your everyday whining the better for you!

Before the airport, was Peter obi not traveling, why didnt he continue to travel how he was traveling without using the airport. You are just deluded. The airport should have been built many years ago if not that obi wasted our oild boom period when Nigeria economy was good, building his own family business as governor.. What Obiano spent to build the airport would have cost the state half if Obi built it, but ofcourse he lacked the capacity!
As much as some people deny the astounding accomplishments of Obiano especially in the Anambra International Airport, it is just impossible to wish away these very tangible things!

Meanwhile lettable shops have been completed and Stanel mart already operates daily at the airport for all your edibles while awaiting your flight.

The avio bridges are being completed and all other facilities are already functional.

The only thing remaining is to lobby one European or Middle Eastern airline to begin scheduled international flight services to the airport. In fact, the facilities are better than the current so called international airports in Nigeria. Except perhaps only Abuja airport.

Again, as much as some faceless characters would like to lie that these things don't exist or downplay their HUGE significance in the economic development of Anambra, i will continue to commend Obiano for his service and huge accomplishments! The same way that i would commend Soludo when he begins to make his own marks in the sands of time.

Obiano mjnus the airport and ICC presided over armed robbery of the Anambra treasury. He sold off all the US bonds Obi bought with Anambra savings. He collected over 40 billion refund from the FGN for the expressway Obi fixed from head Bridge to umunya and the old enugu Road from Nkpor to Awka. He collected FAAC of 90 billion every year for 8 years plus IGR. And his legacy was oil rig bridge, airport, awka flyovers and icc all which cost less than 100 billion in total.
Only crooks with zero regards for facts will type the type of rubbish you typed.

Your aim is to irk Obiano to use him in Destroying Obi's ambitions.

While Obiano would have been justified to go gun blazing exposing the assets and liabilities he inherited, he is a decent man that will rather allow bygones be bygone if Obi would learn the art of statesmsnship and forgiveness too.

Obiano gave Anambra the most important facility which is the airport. Soludo is ready on other infrastructural developments.
We seriously hope that Soludo will concieve and deliver the Anambra light rail network system.

Phase 1 will be from Onitsha to the airport.

Phase2 will link phase 1 at the airport and reach Awka.

Phase 3 will connect Ekwuluobia to Nnewi to the airport and

Phase4 will connect Aguleri to the airport.

Thus, the airport will be the major interchange for traveling to other parts of the state.

It will be as ground breaking as the airport. If not better.

We don't want to even mention what Obiano did again, let them mention what their own useless salary owing governors did so we can compare. We always bring our cards to the table for people that have nothing to bring. cheesy cheesy
Frankly, the attempt to rubbish Obiano's fantastic achievements is very annoying and shameful. Who said that you cannot promote Peter Obi and still accord Obiano his due? Both men served Anambra from two different perspectives. Peter Obi proritized millennium development goals(MDGs) while Obiano prioritized enabling infrastructure of his 5 developmental pillars/priority areas. He achieved the 5 pillars including the oil and gas pillar that was considered a tall order when Obiano said he would make Anambra an oil producing state.

Even if anyone denies that Obiano was known as the alert governor for 8 years, that he funded schools, hospitals, small scale industrial clusters. If the person with retrograde amnesia denies that Obiano intituted rice revolution in Anambra before our own eyes in this forum. Even if they deny that they were not aware that the state medical school and several courses in the state university were accredited due to Obiano's special priority funds to accredite all programs in Ojukwu state university.

No one can deny that Obiano built some of the most outstanding physical infrastructure as roads, flyovers, bridges, hotels, mall, airport, stadium, conference center etc. All his projects especially the hotels. Mall are still the best available in the state till this day. Every where you see anything modern or of international standard / quality in Anambra, it was built by Willie Obiano!

Don't take my word for it, Go and verify!!
