ChiefOtunist:
It's less than 5 months of CC swearing in, why make a claim about "Massive Infrastructural Decay?
I thought Willie was the best in Anambra in terms of infrastructure, what changed?
Mister,
Unlike you that come here to sing praises for 10k or 20k, neither Obiano nor Peter can afford me. I even donated to Peter Obi. So all my effort is for the progress of Anambra state. If money would change hands, its likely me paying them and never the other way round. As i said, they can't afford me to even consult 1hr for them.

Obiano worked despite what you revisionists write about him. Of course it was obvious that in the last three years of his administration, he devoted every available resource to complete the airport. Which was a good strategy. Else it would have become the worst atrocious abandoned project in Anambra's history had he not completed it. Of course even during the campaign, Soludo acknowledged that the state of the roads deserve a state of emergency to be declared on roads in Anambra.

Soludo would have realized that the state's allocation could only pay salaries. Raising taxes to a level that will guarantee significant development resources would be very very unpopular. Thus the reason for suggesting developing a LASTMA style traffic agency to stem the spate of reckless driving in the state, while generating huge IGR from fining these perpetual dangerous drivers. Also using Direct Labour under professional engineers as supervisors for his roads emergency project later this year.

The only issue is whether Soludo would device a system of accepting traffic fines payments only via POS to ensure there are no leakages that will defeat the purpose.
PoliticsRe: Update on developments in Anambra state-photos by OreMI22:
I observed in total dismay that all internal township roads in onitsha, Nnewi and Awka had totally collapsed with huge swimming pools called potholes!

Gov. Soludo must understand that N100 billion naira will scratch the surface of massive infrastructural decay in Onitsha and Nnewi. Not to mention Awka, Ekwulobia, and Aguleri. Unless he uses DIRECT LABOUR!

For Direct Labour to work, he has to plan it differently from the traditional direct labour utilizing ministry of works. He should employ qualified civil engineers from reputable construction companies to design and supervise the direct labourers. He should also invest in road construction equipment to make their work of high quality.

Also, i was shocked that Anambra government was stressing itself on how to raise taxes to generate IGR when there was ample vehicles breaking traffic laws. When Soludo could easily create a Lagos Mass transit authority (LASMA) organization using OCHA brigade. Anyone breaking traffick rule is apprehended and fined 10k or 20k on the spot. They MUST pay via POS into the state account. No cash is accepted for traffic offenses.

Also big vehicles causing obstruction by parking on the road or abandoning broken down vehicles on the road are towed and fined 100k or 200k for trucks with goods. Soludo has lived abroad and knows that many local and city governments get their entire funding through issues of tickets against traffic offenders. So this idea should be quite obvious to him.

On just sanitizing Anambra roads and enforcing traffic laws, Soludo will get enough IGR to execute any project he wants. Moreso, people will praise the sanity and law of heavy traffic from blocked road junctions. Gov. Soludo must think outside the box to increase IGR and not merely the easy option of raising taxes.

Soludo must see the abundant financial opportunity in enforcing traffic rules and fining the abundant offenders according to their offenses. Enforcing traffic rules alone can double Anambra's IGR without even raising taxes on the already impoverished citizens.

This is DMGS roundabout in Onitsha, Anambra State.

Sitting at DMGS roundabout in Onitsha Anambra state is the beautiful Statue of Nnamdi Azikiwe, better known as Zik of Africa, sitting under the Elephant Tusks peculiar to the Igbo culture, and bound by the ring of beads holding them in place.
The smaller and real ones are easily found among the male folks when you attend a traditional event or visit a traditional igbo home. About the beads... That is very popular.

The tusks and beads are cultural symbols revered by the Onitsha people, particularly, the ancient Agbalanze society.

Meanwhile about late Nnamdi Azikiwe,
He was the Governor General of Nigeria from 1960 -1963, Became Ceremonial President from 1963 - 1966, the same time Nigeria became a republic.

Meanwhile, its refreshing to see that the airport is still being developed gradually. Avio bridges installation being finalized.

God bless Gov. Soludo and former Gov Obiano wherever he is, for his courage to concieve and execute such transformational project for the state!

God bless Peter Obi for helping to conserve the funds utilized in executing the project!

Mekus91:
I don't want to be subjective about this matter, let's see the agreement between the two parties.
This is the response of Imo state government:

Imo state government has described as distasteful and cheap blackmail the claim by Innoson Motors that it is owing the company N2.5b being cost of the vehicles it supplied to it some months ago, insisting that the company’s claim are half truths ,intended to impugn on the integrity of the state government for ulterior motives.

Reacting to a threat by the company that it is filling a lawsuit to recover” over N2.5B debt owed’ it by the state government, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Hon Declan Emelumba deplored the manner the company is going about the recovery of the so called debt.

The Commissioner said the truth is that the government bought vehicles worth over N5b from Innoson motors and has so far paid them N3.5b.

According to him, contrary to the claim of Innoson Motors, the said N2.5b is actually the balance due from the original value of the purchase. He regretted that Innoson motors, for reasons best known to them, decided to hide this fact from the public.

Emelumba insisted that the total value of the vehicles supplied was in excess of N5b and that the government has been servicing the debt since then.

He said the management of Innoson Motors was actually the one that breached the contractual agreement with the state government regarding the sale and maintenance of the vehicles.

According to him, there is a clause in the purchase agreement stipulating the siting of a maintenance workshop in owerri and a mobile workshop as well , by Innoson Motors, for the maintenance of the vehicles.

He noted that inspite of the fact that the company breached this agreement, the state government has been servicing the debt and still maintaining the vehicles, disclosing that more than 70% of the vehicles have already broken down.

He said both the threat by the company and resort to media trial of the government were in bad faith.

“It appears the company is out to rubbish the integrity of the government, otherwise it would not have twisted the facts of the case and published same concerning this honest business transaction , even when it failed to show the public the terms of the contract and the clauses the government breached therein. “The whole thing smacks of mischief and bad faith” Emelumba added.

He also regretted that Innoson Motors had not actually exhausted all means of negotiation before threatening the government with a law suit.

He said “the mischievous resort to media trial has confirmed that the company is more interested in compromising the integrity of the government rather than being paid its outstanding balance from the contract sum”

The commissioner disclosed that although no court process has been served it, the government will meet the company in court as soon as a process is served.

When 419 shady characters are allowed to "govern" a whole state or country, they pretty much use deceit and theft in every action.

Innoson's bitter experience with Hope Uzodinma should serve as a lesson when dealing with other rogues masquerading as governors.

If we were Russia with roboust industrial base, huge oil and gas exports and small population, we would be raiding the moon now for the depreciation of the Russian currency to the US dollar.

The Anambra International Airport Departure Lounge is UPSTAIRS, not downstairs.
Currently, the cargo inspection room downstairs is used for departures as the shops are still being installed in the departure lounge upstairs.

Anyone visiting the airport would be told this by the staff there.
I have used the airport at least 4 times. I am frustrated with the slow pace of work on the remaining areas such as arrival waiting lounge and departure lounge.

Though i don't think their lack of completion should be used as excuse to deny the Airport International operations.

Kano, PH and Enugu airport departure lounges , runway and other facilities are way smaller than similar facilities at Anambra International Airport. Yet they are allowed to operate International flights. I think Ezeoke was ill informed by insinuating that the airport was not fit for International operations.

Nonetheless, Prof. Soludo earmarked 4 billion naira in this year's budget to complete ongoing projects at the Airport. Thus soon we shall see a completed departure lounge as enemies of Anambra are already converging to use Ezeoke's excuses to frustrate the airport. As unfounded as that excuse is. This is Nigeria afterall!

The idea of placing steel dumpsters on major roads is archaic and should be stopped. Refuse should be collected house by house wrapped in plastic bags (waterproof bags) by private companies contracted by the state government. The people pay a very small monthly token for trash like 100 or 200 naira, while the state government subsidizes the rest. The resistance to adopting modern ways of doing things is the bane of the southeast. Everything must be done exactly how it was practiced in the 1950s.

By the way, the ONLY way that inner streets can be tarred is if Soludo finally figured out how to utilize direct labor in road building. Training Ministry of works staff to employ laborers to grade streets, build gutter, and apply concrete, interlocking or asphalt overlay is the ONLY way that Soludo can make any appreciable achievement on roads. Many governors hate this method because they cannot steal from the inflated contracts of construction companies. But it is the ONLY way to get many roads completed with the available resources.

One hopes that Soludo will not drop the ball on developing this airport to the fullest. Although Obiano did a fantastic job, it must be emphasized that his facilities were still the minimum required for the airport to become operational before his exit as governor.

The airport still needs a lot of development such as its Cargo terminal, the cargo storage facilities within the airport, the flight school, parallel taxiway, airforce base terminal at the 06 end, aviation fuel dump supplied by a mini-refinery in Nsugbe, and so many others. One hopes that Soludo will pursue all the projects to make the airport an international passenger and cargo hub as well as one of the important aviation refueling facility in West Africa.

By God's grace, Soludo will succeed despite their snares and traps for him. I was so glad to see Anambra youths invade and destroy the criminal camps of these evil people.

I am so glad that Ndi Anambra are gradually opening their eyes to the plot. I tried so much to ask Ndi Anambra that had not seen the deceit why the same people that said they wanted No elections in Anambra in 2017 and 2021 in order to cause a "crisis and appointment of a northern sole administrator", do not see the same plot as good for their own state in 2019 and 2022? Why are they not calling for "No elections" now ?? So we can have sole administrators in their states and we will achieve Biafra very fast? Are their states not also part of Biafra?

I just hope Anambra people will stop paying all their attention to buying and selling, to notice what is being plotted, and what is actually going on. A lot of people are unhappy that the state is on a progressive path, and would like to return it to its shameful past of being governed by thugs and known criminals. Nigerian army and Russian soldiers are kind of similar. They specialize in killing unarmed civilians. Both would rather torture and molest women than fight another professional army.

But, sill Russia obvious have more professional soldiers who can fight armed adversaries. So Russian army will likely obliterate Nigeria army in less than 2 hours of combat.

Those people should first of all, go and get rid of the Fulani parties (APC and PDP) ruling their states, before they start flexing muscle in Anambra that is being ruled by an Igbo party at least.

Anambra people chose Soludo, so Anambra people may feel insulted and disrespected if non-Anambrarians are trying to undermine a governor they chose with no magomago.

Let those non-Anambrarians first go and rescue their own states. Soludo has done his utmost best, better than any governor to give IPOB a listening ear, but if any unreasonable faction of IPOB thinks they can take a cruise with Soludo, very shortly they will notice that ndi Anambra will not stand for that rubbish.

Imagine what will be said if evidence shows that all the gunmen operating in Rivers state in the name of IPOB/ESN are from Anambra, which basically means any violent action taken by this group has no Rivers state indigenes input.

So basically we are now in a situation where non-Anambrarians are bearing arms in Anambra and causing all manner of hardship, including undermining the governor massively voted in by Anambrarians. Such actions should not be taking place without first having the buy-in of Anambra youths

Simon Ekpa can first of all start going to rescue his own state. Thank God IPOB-DOS seem to be cooperating with Soludo

Nnamdi Kanu has become a Prisoner of Conscience.

Whether you kill him, jail him, release him or exile him, you will still have to deal with the marginalization issue. At the minimum, Nigeria must be restructured so that the feeling of one ethnic group lording it over others in their own homeland will be addressed for good.

Else, I don't see any way this issue will be resolved without a second really bloody civil war. For those Russian-Nigerians among us, that think war's outcome is a result of the side that has the most tanks and airplanes at the start of the war, hopefully, the ongoing humiliation of the mighty Russian army in Ukraine will help them understand how a war's outcome isn't decided by who is superior at the start of the war. No need to mention that Adolf Hitler also had the most tanks and weapons at the start of World war 2, but we all know who lost.

To read through this thread is to witness the recapitulation of all of the nonsensical development ideas which have led Nigeria to remain a Third World cesspool while many of its former peers have joined the ranks of developed nations: inane conspiracy theories about "the West" plotting against Nigeria for some unspecified reason or other, insistence on the "essential" nature of what is a commodity in the age of machine learning and biotech, vehement appeals to "infant industry" arguments which have never shown any success in all of Nigeria's history, appeals to tribalism and insistence that Ajaokuta would have been a roaring success if only the "right" people (aka their "kinsmen" ) were left in charge, even pompous boasting about a supposed 160+ IQ from someone who clearly couldn't reason his way out of a paper bag!

As far as I can see, only one contributor to the entire thread clearly sees Ajaokuta for what it is: a ridiculous white elephant project which was already obsolete and uncompetitive when it was being initially built by Shagari, let alone today when Chinese operators are flooding international markets with steel at prices no one can compete with - not even the Americans, the South Koreans and the Japanese, let alone a third-rate country like Russia whose sole remaining exports are raw materials like oil, gas and manganese. Pouring more money down the black hole that is Ajaokuta in the name of "development" is the most pointless and ridiculous policy any government could follow, as would be obvious to anyone who understood what the "sunk cost fallacy" means.

The belief that manufacturing has some sort of sacred role that justifies diverting scarce funds to, at the expense of essentials like reducing infant mortality, providing clean drinking water, and ensuring everyone can get a quality free primary through JSS education, is at the foundation of much that has gone wrong in Nigerian history, even leaving aside all the rampant corruption. This pathetic superstition is what has given birth to Dangote's monopolies that double the price of housing for every Nigerian, it's what has led to rampant smuggling of adulterated food products and drugs that kill vast numbers every year, it's why oil bunkering and "refining" have ruined the Niger Delta with pollution, and it's why "herdsmen" can hold a nation to ransom in the name of more expensive and vastly inferior beef to what could be imported from Argentina and the USA. One would think after 62 years of failed protectionism and import-substition policies, Nigerians would have started to know better, but threads like this are a real eye-opener in that regard. Nigerian history in a nutshell: largely stupid masses go along with largely stupid policies of largely stupid leaders, then act astonished when the results of their stupidity are further failure and impoverishment!
Very valid points and exactly the truth!

Why pour extra $20 billion dollars into another fake obsolete factory when we know if we give the Chinese a $1billion dollars concession, they would build a bigger and more modern steel company in Nigeria?

Ajaokuta steel factory is a cash cow for Nigerian elites and Russian Oligarchs endlessly milking Nigeria through the bogus project.
