Career › Re: Phd From Abroad, Trying To Get Lecturing Job In Nigeria by OreoPaschal(m): 3:18pm On Feb 24, 2018 |
djbrahim: Hello all,
I am looking for advice. So I recently obtained a PhD in Urban Planning in the UK, as well my previous degrees, but I am returning home for NYSC. My plan is to be a lecturer in Nigeria or elsewhere. I know things in Nigeria are bad and many people will tell me to stay where I am, but it’s not possible to remain, I don’t want to be here illegally, the job market is not nearly as nice as people with engineering degrees and I want to do NYSC and get it over with. I don’t have any high expectations when I return, I'm expecting to start from the ground up, so I understand that things would be difficult.
I was wondering if people could offer insights on how hard it is to get a lecturer job in Nigeria. I know having connections is the most important factor but can one find a lecturing job without it connections?
As for NYSC, I assume I’ll be posted to teach in a secondary school, but is it possible to get a university post? Any advice on what I can do during NYSC to help my chances of finding a job after. I already have academic papers under review at journals and I continue to work on my research.
Thank you Did you graduate from a Nigerian University?? If Yes, it would be very easy to get a place from the University you graduated from. Good luck in your search. I hope to attain this level someday. |

Health › Re: Bad Mouth Odour And Persistent Headache. Help! by OreoPaschal(m): 10:52am On Feb 23, 2018 |
AfflictedOne: Good morning Nairalanders , especially doctors in the house. I have a very serious case of bad mouth odour that has persisted for a long time, at least 8years.
Sometimes I have to brush as many as three to four times a day and bad enough, it will still be there.
Occasionally, I remove some yellowish smelly stuffs from my throat and after sometimes I see them again. Also of late, I have persistent headaches even without fever, even when I wake in the morning expecting to be refreshed, the ache will still be there. I don't know if these are related.
I have seen two or three doctors and normally there give me antibiotics and recommend mouthwashes. Now it is still here an am worried and depressed.
I am in my late 20s and this has affected my life in ways space will not permit me to write. I just cannot function well anywhere because I cannot talk for fear of the odour. My social life is zero, and I am almost always alone.
Please advice me if you have or know someone who has experienced this, or you are an expert or you know something I can do to be free from this. Its so bad its the only item on my new year prayer. I don't want to spend another year in this. Thank you all in anticipation.
This is a new profile, just for anonymity. Please help an afflicted brother. Thank you. Sorry Brotherly... I only wish you well. I will advice you visit the hospital and run test to ascertain what could be the cause of the mouth odour. Also, limit on what you eat... Take more of refreshing vegetables like mint leaves. Get a good mouth spread to help subdue till you find a better option that will be permanent. Concerning the frequency of headache whenever you wake up from sleep, I can be point that to be as a result of Snoring habit. In all, I will advice you go to the hospital for proper diagnosis and treatment. Stay bless and get well soon. |

dukeprince50: good days nairalanders, I'll be 24 on wednessday, due to Nigerian education system, I'm still in school. I left my former school due to the fact that my course of study was not accredited. when I got another admission 2014 in my present school, I worked hard, read all night just to graduate with a good result cos my dept will employ anyone who graduate with excellent result but right now I'm not motivated about that. I've changed my thought, to own a business of my own rather than serve someone and call them boss and the business on my mind is capital intensive, a multi million naira business which by my estimate I could put it up at age 35 if I start now, now the problem is Nigerian education system wants me to be in school till 26yrs plus nysc is 27 and my school NDU was on strike last year so we lost one academic year, it seems I'll now leave nysc at age 28. God 4bid dat at age 27 I still want to depend on my parents. and now im on strike that only God knows when ill go back to school.I couldn't raise money cos the money my parents give to me is not enough to meet schooling demands and save, I told my dad I want to leave school and start something else then when I established myself I'll come back to school, life is a race against time and I have goals set up for myself which I can't accomplish if I waste any more time, he didn't want me to, I told him to open a shop for me which someone will run it for me while I'm in school, he said no that I must go to school and focus, the thing is focusing on education is the last thing on my mind, I need to have something doing before getting married and raising kids, and oh, I don't think I want my children to study in nigeria and waste their time as I have, please how do I convince him that I can get a degree at age 60 cos I have no interest looking for a job and I think certificate is pretty useless if you won't use it to look for a white colar job and even if you want to, job opportunity is choked in niger, but I need to do something now if I must survive. No hurry in life bro. Take every step one at a time, and don't be faster than your shadow. Try and finish up with your schooling before you embark on any other venture. Education is never a waste of time or effort, only a hater of knowledge will say so. |
Business › Re: Zenith Bank Overtakes First Bank As The Largest Bank In Nigeria by OreoPaschal(m): 8:56pm On Aug 27, 2017 |
Yazmin: Hi. it obviously a mix up, but even if correct , shows a good rather than bad scenario for customers and the bank alike.
what it simply shows is liabilities (deposits from customers) versus it's assets (loans/placements/non earning ownings/BA's, CP's , TBILLS. ..et.c.).
Even if the figures were correct (which they are not), it means that stanbic bank has collected deposits from customers to the tune of N912.7billion (liabilities) and that the value of loans to customers, plus all its buildings worth, plus placecents in t bills,Bankers acceptances , commercial papers, funds with CBN all total up to 1Bn (obviously wrong figure). I know of a single customer of the bank whose loan figure is over N4billion.
But following your conclusion above,it would be rated the best bank since customers are sure that their monies deposited are still intact and not given out to anyone as loans which may become bad and thus make them unable to access their funds when need. it doesn't work as such however.
Net-worth considers Capital ( shareholders equity and other capital tiers), which is not even mentioned on the post. Thus no meaningful analysis can be made from the snapshot above.
Stanbic is a sound bank in all ramifications and from the view of any sound financial analyst.
You may ask any treasury management banker or any banker with at least 3 years experience on customer relationship for detailed explanations of financial analysis. Yours faithfuly could also answer more questions you may wish to ask or clarifications.
Shallom. ..! Can i have your whatsapp contact?... I will need to discuss privately with you. I am anticipating, Thank you. |
