Politics / Re: I Blocked Atiku From Becoming President — Anenih by Orikinla(m): 10:24am On Nov 27, 2016
shaiba:
A former Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party’s Board of Trustees, Tony Anenih, said he blocked ex-Vice-President Atiku Abubakar from succeeding former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Anenih stated this in his book, titled ‘My Life and Nigerian Politics,’ which was presented in Abuja on Saturday.

Anenih, who served as the Minister of Works and Housing between 1999 and 2002, said Abubakar became too ambitious during the build-up to the 2003 presidential election in which Obasanjo was seeking a second term.

“As a result of my preparations for Chief Obasanjo’s second tenure, I stepped on the toes of many of those who did not want him to seek a second term. These are the people I can now refer to as members of the ‘G3’. These were General Ibrahim Babangida, (ex-) Vice- President Atiku Abubakar and the (ex-) National Security Adviser, General Aliu Gwarzo.

“There was no other way I could have offended the vice-president other than that I prevented him from being PDP’s presidential candidate in the 2003 presidential election. He erroneously believed that he was the only politician at the Villa and that he was better qualified than the President. I was well ahead of him in all his plans to prevent Chief Obasanjo from running (for re-election).”

Anenih, however, noted that after blocking Abubakar, the former vice-president also ensured that he (Anenih) lost his position in Obasanjo’s cabinet.

The former PDP BoT Chairman also claimed that he was the one who made Atiku second-in-command in 1999.

He said after the PDP presidential primary of 1998, the then Chairman of the party, Solomon Lar, recommended three northerners to be Obasanjo’s running mate.

The three nominees were Prof. Jerry Ghana, Abubakar Rimi and Adamu Ciroma.

Lar was said to have told Obasanjo that Rimi was his preferred candidate but Obasanjo wasn’t convinced.

Anenih, according to the book, then advised Obasanjo to pick Atiku, who had just won the governorship election in Adamawa State and was waiting to be sworn in.

He added, “I asked Obasanjo whether he would want a vice-president that would give him absolute confidence and allow him to sleep with his two eyes closed or whether he would want a vice-president he did not trust.

“He answered that he would like to sleep with his two eyes closed. It was at this point that I asked him: ‘What about Atiku?’ Chief Obasanjo’s answer was that Atiku had just won his governorship election and the law might not allow him to come on board as his running mate.

“We both decided to get a lawyer to advise us and Barrister Alimi Rasaq of Kwara State was sent for. He advised us that there was nothing in the constitution that prevented Atiku from being his running mate; especially as Atiku had not been sworn in.”

Speaking at the book presentation, which had in attendance several PDP leaders, Anenih announced that he had quit politics.

However, former President Goodluck Jonathan, who was a special guest of honour, rejected Anenih’s retirement, urging him not to abandon the PDP.

Meanwhile, the ex-minister said he survived death after an eight-hour heart surgery.

He stated this during a thanksgiving service held at Our Lady Queen of Nigeria Pro-Cathedral Church, Garki, Abuja.

He said, “There is nothing God cannot do if you believe in him sincerely. I had a problem with my heart. So I was subjected to eight hours of surgery and seven doctors were carefully selected to do that because of their experience.

“Before the operation, the seven doctors told the people that accompanied me (to the hospital) that I wouldn’t make it. I heard them.”

The event was attended by ex-Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar; ex-Vice-President Namadi Sambo; Aliko Dangote; Second Republic Vice-President, Alex Ekwueme; a former Governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada; ex-Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido; a former Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu; Prof. Jerry Gana and others.

Northerners are among the hardest working people in Nigeria as farmers and labourers.
Go to the north and see the rice pyramids; date palms, onions, tomatoes, red pepper and groundnuts.
And in the south, they are our most trusted "Mai" guards to be our gatemen and "Mai Ruea" watcher fetchers and suppliers.
Northerners are now taking over the "Obioma" street tailoring business from the Igbo's in Lagos.
Without them, how many non northerners will do these compulsory jobs.

Saying northerners are lazy is idiotic.

I will bring up oil because it does count. In economics anything produced within your domain counts towards gdp. The Allocation arguements and mineral right arguement holds weight. It's also reason why akwa ibom get most out oil money.

Let's more to IGR the north boast lowest gdp, IGR gdp grossly, lowest per capita IGR as well. Let's look at Kano vs Akwa Ibom or Anambra. In terms of IGR both southern state beat it. Mind you Kano is largest state with second highest population that can bearly match either state toe to toe on any metric.

If you look at graphs of poverty rates the northern regions always comes out higher aswell. As a region and state by state. In terms of IGR SE is 3rd highest politicial region and still bigger that at least 2 Northern regions put together.

Northern region boast many mineral deposits but remains under developed. The fact is that if laziness is subsidized through Allocation states will remain lazy. Thats why people on nairaland generally agree reform would be best.

You should seek help ASAP. Your condition keeps getting worse.

If you had an iota of sense, you wouldn't have made such silly comments.

You see, being educated does not imply being brilliant. You, for one, are learned, still, you're dumb as f.u.ck!

If I hadn't been down south, I wouldn't have cared enough to respond. But as someone who has seen it there, here, and somewhere inbetween, I assure you, the difference in education is only in numbers; not quality.

Both smart and dumb people abound everywhere. Education is good, but I've seen even the highly informed brainwashed like they never saw the the gates of a school.

As for economy, Lagos is what it is. It is a country in its own right. That aside, I do not see how much better the rest compare.

Northern political leaders have a master plan to retain the highest political office of President of Nigeria for 12 years from 2015 to 2027.

President Muhammadu Buhari is meant to do only one term and hand over to another northern Nigerian in 2019. Then his successor will rule as President of Nigeria for two terms, before handing over to an Igbo or Yoruba leader. But former President of the Senate, Senator David Mark is still thinking of becoming President of Nigeria.
He can become a Vice Presidential Candidate in 2019.

Former Governor of Lagos State and current Minister of Power and Works, Mr. Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, may become the Vice Presidential Candidate of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar who will leave the ruling party, All Progressives Congress (APC) if President Buhari insists on contesting for a second term with Owelle Rochas Okorocha, Governor of Imo State as his Vice Presidential Candidate.

Mallam Nasir Ahmad el-Rufai, the Governor of Kaduna State also wants to succeed President Buhari. But Alhaji Atiku is the political stumbling block in his way.

The whole political arrangements for national leadership of the Federal Republic of Nigeria were already planned from when retired General Yakubu Gowon was the military Head of State until he was toppled in the military coup d'etat of 1975 to prevent him from handing over to the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, the great sage and Patriarch of the Western Region whom former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo masterfully prevented from becoming President of Nigeria in 1979.

247frolicboss:
The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, SAN, has stressed the need for Nigeria to develop its own plan capable of effectively addressing the current economic downturn.

Fashola, who spoke while delivering a lecture on “Freedom from Fear, Choices before the New Generation” to mark the 42nd convocation of the University of Benin, Edo State, said that Nigerians must overcome their fears and use their natural resources to create solutions and improve their lives.

While addressing the graduating students, he said, “We will not pray our way out of recession; we will plan and produce our way back to prosperity and out of recession and you are the freshest, youngest and most energetic workforce we will have to work with.

“You are the new batteries to power the engine of growth of our country. Your choices must be clear, free from fear, not reckless but driven by analytical thought, questioning and probing and ultimately determined by convictions.”

According to him, young Nigerians must, like their counterparts in developed countries, free their minds from fear, rather than depend solely on spiritual answers to the problems.

Celebrities / Re: Toke Makinwa Reveals How Ex-husband Maje Ayida Almost Ruined Her Life by Orikinla(m): 8:16pm On Nov 25, 2016
FlirtyKaren:
Media personality Toke Makinwa has survived a whole lot. At the age of 8, she lost her parents in a house fire.

As an immature teenager, through her twenties, she fell in love with a man who would nearly ruin her life - with a sex tape, side girlfriends. A man that almost drove her to commit suicide by drinking Dettol after he cheated, got babymama pregnant, their wedding crashed and the story blew into a huge international scandal.

Toke Makinwa now has a soon to be released book – On Becoming in which she shared her incredible survival story and it has been an interesting and eye-opening read so far!

Toke says it “is not a tell-all but a must tell. Here are some MUST-READ excerpts.

The Discovery
I got on my knees in front of him, my voice calm as I can make it. “Maje, you can’t keep lying. What is going on?
He walks away, leaving me there with my heart in my hands. I see him pacing, like he is
having a private conversation. Then all of a sudden, he walks back to the living room, looks straight into my eyes and says, ‘She’s pregnant’.
I fall to the ground. My head….
‘What’s she having?’
‘A boy,’ he says.
‘How long have you known?’
‘I’ve always known…. It was what I thought I wanted,’ he says.

The Wedding

“Finally, I thought. He chose me! He has stepped up and he’s finally ready to make us a priority.
It was my wedding day.
I was happy, yet I was waiting for something to happen. Maje had disappointed me three times before. We would pick a date to go to the wedding registry and he would call it off…. We had discussed eloping, but he’d never committed to any plan.
It wasn’t until we shared our first dance to John Legend’s ‘All of Me’ that I finally believed that it had happened.
We got back together (after a quarrel because Maje took ‘an ex’ to a party he bluntly told Toke he wasn’t taking her to and he and the ex were ‘touching freely and kissing’)…
Maje invited me to Abuja…. As I was putting away my things I saw all kinds of feminine items – earrings on the dresser, sanitary pads in the drawer….”

The Other Woman

“Who was that girl?” I asked
“That’s that girl”
“Which girl?”
“The girl I told you about. Her friends are always calling me to say she really likes me and has a crush on me. Her name is Anita.”
“So that’s the Anita girl they say you are dating.”
“I’m not dating her. How can I date someone that is always saying ‘can I come and see you? I’ll bring my friend that you think is cute’?”
I accepted Maje’s explanation and concluded that Anita was not important. So I’ll be with Maje and she’d call and I’d tell him, “The girl that has a crush on you is calling.” And it would be nothing.

The Sex Tape and Bleaching

“At some point while we were dating, Maje had asked if he could tape us having sex. This was a new one for me but I would do anything to keep my man, or so I thought, and so I obliged.
But I was nervous afterwards because I didn’t want the tape to get into the wrong hands….
I dragged the file back to his desktop, and I could tell from the stilled image in the video that the person in it was not me…. I clicked play and watched horrified as Maje had sex with Anita.
Watching that video, all of the inadequacies I thought I had dealt with over the years came rushing back.
I had been with Maje from when I was an immature teenager, through my twenties, and for most of those years, Anita had been the standard I had to live up to. I had lightened my skin at some point – Anita was half Lebanese and half Ibibio, and Maje made me feel like he preferred her lighter skin.”

Breakups and Makeups

Months passed and I still couldn’t find a job (in London). And I was still heartbroken. Maje and Anita were officially an item, and I stalked them on Facebook. Maje would put her picture up and they would write on each other’s walls.
…one cold night as I got off the bus, I got a Facebook message from Maje. It read: ‘I miss you and I cannot deny or hide it, come back to me’.
We started talking again… I convinced myself that he had changed.
Maje and I had been together for nine years, on and off, at this point, and it had been an unending cycle of hurt and betrayal. Every time we took ten steps forward in our relationship, we took fifty back. Each time I gave up and let go, Maje would come after me and hold on so tightly till I gave in.

Another child

… there was a 70-day fasting and prayer programme at my church. I joined in: I was praying for Maje and I. On the final day, I prayed and asked God to reveal why Maje and I couldn’t find peace with each other.
…I opened my email address and typed Maje’s email address in. I had no idea what his password was but I was determined to get into his account…. I went through email after email until I found pictures of a boy that looked exactly like Maje….

Contemplating Suicide

I was sitting in the bedroom one day. There was a bottle of Dettol in the bathroom and a thought came, very strong, “Just drink it and die. What’s the point? The whole world is laughing at you right now. Just end it.”
Faith
The devil finds a way to fill your head with lies when you have just gone through a period. These lies can make you question everything, including the very purpose of your existence. Lies like:
‘You’re not good enough’
‘This is the best thing that could have happened to you and now it’s falling apart’
‘This will end you’
When this lies came, God’s word provided a much-needed comfort and a reminder of my identity and His plans for me.

Moving on and Healing

Maje hadn’t made it easy for me to move on. He’d begged like his life depended on me staying….
And then there were the outrageous comments:
‘Maje spent X amount of time with Anita so she wasn’t the mistress, Toke was’
‘She didn’t break your home, you did. You came between two people who loved each other by marrying him’.

…. That day’s topic was about making marriage work, and it hit me so hard that I cried like a baby. I wasn’t a virtuous woman; I was a girl! A girl with a daddy-void so large that she had all of her issues and expectations on a man who was still trying to discover his purpose.

All my mistakes became clear to me. I hadn’t lost my marriage to another woman. I had given my marriage to her.

While I’m not sure if I’ll find love again, I am sure of the contentment I have found in a God who’s got my back 100%.
