Wizkid ’s last known girlfriend Justine Skye has been tweeting in her feelings.
The singer on Twitter in series of tweets appears to be battling heartbreak. She wrote, “I don’t mind, you ain’t mine. Falling in love is embarrassing”. In another post, the 21 year old wrote, “You don’t know your own strength until you need to use them”

According to reports earlier this month, Justine Skye and Wizkid have called it quits. The reports adds that Wizkid went to find solace in the arms of his first baby mama, Oluwanishola who was in the States with him for about a week alongside their son Boluwatife.
Wizkid, Oluwanishola and Boluwatife have since returned to Nigeria for Christmas.

Why are Muslim elites coping Christian wedding ceremonies?
Just like when IBB's son invited American R&B singer Joe to perform during his wedding and the marriage crashed later even after the Ndimi girl was calling him my boo on Instagram.

Nigerian Muslim elites are hypocrites of Islam.

Career / Re: How To Write A Good Sales Pitch Letter by Orikinla(m): 8:34am On Dec 21, 2016
BiafranBushBoy:
In one of my former articles How to earn as a writer in Nigeria, I specifically mentioned becoming a freelancer. In order to become a great freelancer, you must know how to write a good sales pitch letter. Like you saw where we explained in Top writer’s secret to earning more, the difference between freelancers who earn more and those who still pick up crumbs, lies in their ability to pitch potential clients. A freelancer writer, who doesn’t know how to write a good sales pitch letter, will end up picking up jobs that are not worth it.

I remember when I first started out as a fresh freelancer on Upwork; I suffered the frustration of not getting enough jobs, just because my sales pitch letter couldn’t even convince my dad to give me a job to handle. The frustration of not getting any job would be small, as when you realize that other writers are making a whole lot of money from that same system. I finally developed and learnt how to write a good sales pitch, and I will be sharing in this article.

A lot of sites/blogs will keep repeating the same old junk, and keep recycling tactics that are either outdated or just can’t work presently. I believe that whatever I am sharing with you now would be your winning ticket to earning a lot of money from writing.

Do your Homework

Just the way you prefer giving out good things to friends and people within your trust circle, Clients also feel the same way when a potential employee address them personally. Nothing disgusts a potential client than when you send out random pitch sales. If you are on a freelancer website like Upwork, instead of typing out “Dear sir”, you can try out “Dear Mr Bill”. Most of their names are already down for you to see, so it would cost nothing to add it up your sales letter. All you do is customize it with a little background search, and you are on the right track.

HI, I am/my name is

Once you have addressed the letter to whomever you feel is the recipient, move fast to introduce yourself. Give out necessary information about yourself that will give you an edge.

For example “My name is Mike and I am the founder of topwritersden, a blog where we tutor freelance writers.

Once you are done with this kind of opening, move fast to the body of your letter.

Opening Speech

A good sales pitch letter isn’t meant to be a wish/love letter where you get to express all your heart desires. It is about researching exactly what the client wants, and you promising to deliver in your sales letter.

In most freelance sites, clients take out time to list out their requirements. As a good freelancer, you should take note of every one of them. That is the reason I insist you make proper background check on the requirements of the client.

Do well to include some personalized details, so as not to make your letter sound like another cold pitch.

You can say “I saw your advert about creating a short fiction romance story, and I believe I have all it takes to complete the job. I have written about 5 short fiction stories and you can access them at www.myshortfictionstories.com...

Summarize

Once you are done with your opening speech, you should summarize immediately by highlighting your achievements, experience and any other thing you feel can convince someone to give you a job.

Keep it brief

Nothing sucks more than a lengthy sales pitch letter. Most upcoming freelancers feel that by typing and pouring out their minds on their letter, it would give them the job. Keeping it short and simple yet filled with reasons to be hired, does the magic.

Go for it

At the end of your sales pitch, you should put out a call to action. Ask for the job and you will get it. It is as simple as that, once you adhere to the above rules.

Proof-read

We are all prone to mistakes, so don’t bother hitting the send button immediately after typing. Take your time and check out for errors. Imagine asking for a writing job and your sales pitch letter is filled with errors.

Deliver

After checking for errors, go ahead and send the sales pitch

Follow up

95% of freelancers don’t do this and it has costs them to miss out on a lot of jobs. Following up in a well-planned way shows the client that you are really passionate about the job.

For freelancers who are just starting out, it is necessary to include it in your mail.

Example “I will check back in a few days to know when we can commence the project.”

You have said you will do, and then make sure you do it.

This may take a bit of work and commitment, but once you have gotten a winning format, it keeps serving you. A good sales pitch letter will give you an edge over other competitors in the same industry as you. If you still need help in drafting a good sales pitch letter, do well to contact me. Thanks!

Politics / Re: 1989 Recession Was Worse, But Nigeria Survived – Fashola by Orikinla(m): 8:26am On Dec 21, 2016
nairalandaddict:
Babatunde Fashola, the Minister of Power, Works and Housing, on Tuesday told the youths not to despair because of the current economic situation, stressing that “there is light at the end of the tunnel.’’

The minister spoke in Abuja at the Special Town Hall Meeting for the youths, organised by the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture.

The town hall meeting was conceived to bridge communication gap between the government and the citizenry and also keep them informed of the policies and programmes of government,

Addressing the gathering, Fashola said that government felt the pains of Nigerians and was working hard to bring the country out of recession.

He said from his experience as a Nigerian, he had seen the country even in a more precarious situation when he was growing up and he never lost hope.

“Between 1979 and 1983 when I was in School, Nigeria had a lot of money in reserve. There was nothing we couldn’t buy, but by 1984 the money was gone.

We spent the money on all sorts of things including drinks. There is no kind of drinks that you will not find in the country then.

That was the time we started importing rice, other food items and exotic drinks.

However, 1989 was my first contact with recession. That was when it became very difficult to buy sugar and milk and all kinds of imported drinks suddenly disappeared,’’ he said.

Fashola also said that Nigeria was in recession in 1985 when it became difficult to sustain the cafeteria system in schools.

“We used to eat a meal at the cafeteria at 50 kobo including chicken, egg, bread and tea. To feed as a student then was N45 a month for three good meals daily. In 1985 when that disappeared, Nigeria did not disappear.’’

The minister said that when he left the university, it was the time travelling out of the country popularly known as “checking out Andrew,’’ was in vogue.

He said many of his mates left for greener pastures abroad but he remained in the country because of his strong belief that Nigeria is a land of opportunities.

“I believe so much in the future of this country, I remained, worked hard, though I never knew I will sit here as a minister. So, I want to say to you the youth, don’t lose faith, don’t despair, there is hope and light at the end of the tunnel,’’ he said.

Fashola said that the 2017 budget tagged “Budget of Recovery and Growth,’’ is meant to address recession and the government has set up the parameter for its success.

He, however underscored the need for Nigerians to “roll up our sleeves and work hard’’ to get the country out of the economic quagmire.

“Only the President, cannot recover and grow the economy, everybody must understand that we are at the time when we must work our hardest,’’ he said.

He recalled that for upward of three years before he was made minister, no contractor was paid, which led to shedding of jobs in the three sectors he is overseeing,

He said so far, the government had made two disbursements to ensure the contractors went back to site and recover lost jobs.

Speaking in the same vein, the Minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun, said the country “is coming out of one of its most difficult periods.’’

She said the government is investing massively in infrastructure and diversification of the economy to move away from dependence on oil.

nwabobo:
2% of Nigerians own 90% bank deposits — NDIC

By Emma Ujah, Abuja Bureau Chief As a major indicator of wealth distribution in Nigeria across income groups, a mere two per cent of Nigerians own 90 per cent of total deposits in Nigerian banks. This represents the wide gap between the rich and the poor in Nigeria, which continues to pose major socio-economic development challenges to the nation. Director of Research and International Relations at the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation, NDIC, Alhaji Mohammed Umar, disclosed this at the Businessday Capital Market Development Annual Conference in Abuja, yesterday. His words: “Our current deposit insurance coverage is N500, 000 for the Deposit Money Banks. And some people have said that it is low. I can tell you that it is very adequate for the majority of accounts. “It will interest you to know that it covers over 90 per cent of accounts in the country. Indeed, Nigerians who have more than N500, 000 in their accounts are just two per cent. Emefiele CBN Governor “What we found is that this two per cent Nigerians have 90 per cent of banks’ total deposits. Look at that – two per cent Nigerians own 90 per cent of total banks deposits, while the remaining 98 per cent have just 10 per cent of total deposits. What that tells you is that the gap between the rich and the poor has continued in this country.” Alhaji Umar added that there were about 70 million bank account holders in the country. The total bank deposits stood at N17.2 trillion, as at December 2015, according to a post on the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, website. Earlier in his address, the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, Mr. Mounir Gwarzo, urged Pension Fund Administrators, PFAs, to invest more in the nation’s capital market, with a view to deepening it and ensuring better returns on contributor’s funds. He said: “Deepening Nigeria’s Capital Market through Maximum Utilization of Pension Funds is a conversation our country must continue to have in order to ensure that the impressive pool of savings we have been able to mobilize over the last decade is put to productive use for inclusive economic growth. “We are confident that with greater participation by PFAs and return of retail investors, our capital market will emerge as one of the world’s biggest and most liquid market capable of supporting the socio-economic development of our country. “We are delighted that the National Pension Commission, PenCom, has been very proactive in making the necessary adjustments to the guidelines that allow PFAs sufficient flexibility to determine their optimal strategic asset allocation. “The draft new regulation on investment of pension fund assets allow the investment of up to 30% in equities (for Fund type 1) and up to 45% in corporate debt securities (for Fund types 3 and 4). As a whole, we believe the adoption of a multi-fund structure is a very positive development that should produce economies of scale, risk diversification and further deepen the Nigerian capital market through pension portfolios and management strategies of PFAs. “There is, therefore, an urgent need for the draft guidelines on multi-fund structure to be approved. “The question is: Based on the current asset allocation by Nigerian PFAs, are they paying sufficient attention to generating the necessary returns to provide sustainable benefits to contributors? Can we say that Nigerian PFAs have achieved an optimal strategic asset allocation or explored all viable investment outlets? “March 2016 data from PenCom shows that Nigerian PFAs invest only 8.16% of their assets in the domestic listed equities market and 1.24% of their assets in foreign equities.

Romance / Ingratitude In Relationships by Orikinla(m): 7:19am On Dec 21, 2016
The Witchcraft of Ingratitude

Ingratitude is witchcraft, because when you don't appreciate acts of goodness and loving kindness, you are rewarding good with evil.

Ingrates suffer from what I call the Amnesia of Ingratitude.
It is of the evil spirit of the power of the dog.

You find a lovely dog wagging it's tail as you feed and take care of the dog for years.
But the day you fail to give the dog what it has been eating and enjoying from you, the dog stops wagging it's tail and growls or snarls at you in anger and fury. The dog can bark and bite you. It does not remember all the years you have been feeding and taking care of it.
Many humans behave like dogs, because they are possessed by the evil power of the dog.

King David prayed thus:
"Deliver my soul from the sword; my darling from the power of the dog."
~ Psalm 22:20 KJV:Holy Bible.

1997, The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Trinity Tabernacle Parish, Adekunle Fajuyi Way, Ikeja G R A.. Lagos, Nigeria.

We were in a night vigil when our pastor prophesied that the world would be overwhelmed by an internet boom and a digital ecosystem. I was totally clueless about what he was saying, because I did not even know how to use a PC and did not know anything about the internet. After his prophecy, Yahoo was launched in the same year 1997.
Linda Ikeji was introduced to me in our office on Shiro Street in Fadeyi, Lagos. Mr. Boniface Oyem, the young Publisher of the defunct Affections International magazine brought her from the ghetto of Mushin to meet me as the Editor of Affections who could help her fulfill her ambition to be a model. She was 17, tall and slim with beautiful brown eyes.  She just finished secondary school.
Afterwards, on another day that she came and left, I was on my way to the Fadeyi Bus Stop nearby when I saw a photograph on the ground along Shiro  Street, and I was moved to bend and take a closer look. It was the postcard size photograph of Linda Ikeji! It must have slipped out from her hand bag on her way to or from my office. I picked it up and kept it for her until she came again.
We became best of friends and I took her along to the important corporate occasions I was invited to. I took her to her first time to eat at Mr. BIGG's on the Adeniran Ogunsanya Road in Surulere and giggled as she spilled the jam in the doughnut on her blouse. Then I took her to her first buffet during a seminar hosted by Chevron Nigeria at the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) on Kofo Abayomi Street on Victoria Island, Lagos. In 1998, she later found her way to the Silverbird Group of Senator Ben Murray-Bruce and got her first opportunity to catwalk as a young model at 18, for one of the fashion and beauty shows organized by Silverbird Entertainment.
I did my best to motivate her and later met her family.

Google was launched in 1998. But I was still clueless about the internet until 2001 when I paid N100 at a cyber cafe beside Ekesons Transport Company at Jibowu Bus Stop near Yaba, Lagos. The young manager, Frank registered me for my first email address kingofkingsbooks@hotmail.com for my first company, King of Kings Books International I started in 2000 with the financial contributions of Bishop (Dr ) Mike Okonkwo, the General Overseer of The Redeemed Evangelical Mission (TREM) and the divine anointing of Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, General Overseer of RCCG in whose office I worked as a counselor for the official Redemption Light magazine of our church.
I paid N100 for every email Frank helped me to type and send.
Then he taught me how to send and reply emails before I used emails to lambaste Shell for fueling the Niger Delta crisis in 2004. Shell International directed me to meet with Mr. Bisi Daniels, Head of Corporate Communications at Shell Nigeria on Broad Street in Lagos. I wanted to produce a conflict resolution documentary film to dialogue with my brother in- law, Asari Dokubo and other Niger Delta militants. So, one night in 2004, I arrived Port Harcourt in Rivers State. I went straight to the two storey block of flats of my elder sister, Mrs. Pauline Chiyenre William-West. I stayed with her before I crossed the Bonny Channel to the Nigeria LNG Limited on Bonny Island where I stayed with my younger sister, Mrs. Stella Unah and her family in the RAs. Her husband, my brother in- law, Mr. Sunday Unah welcomed me and I lived with them to do my recce for the documentary film, "Winds of Fire, Winds of Change".  But later, Shell dropped the project when the Federal Government sent the Nigerian Armed Forces to crush the Niger Delta militants and built a Garrison on Bonny Island in 2005.

I discovered the mass communication power of the internet and blogging in 2005.
Seun Osewa and other Nigerians in Nigeria, America and the UK were already having blogs. Later Seun launched Nairaland the same year and it became popular among Nigerians and foreigners interested in Nigerian affairs. I started my Nigerian Times, Kisses 'n' Roses and The Rhema Blogs. Then I met Queen Ime Ebong, as one of the few Nigerian female bloggers. Bella Naija started blogging in Canada.
Mark Zuckerberg and his buddies founded Facebook in the same 2005.
I was traveling from Bonny Island to Lagos to see Linda and others and also travelled to Calabar and Abuja to visit Queen.
I introduced Linda to Nairaland and created a blog for her defunct Fashion, Modeling and Beauty ( FM&B) magazine. Then the following year 2006, she started her own blog.

As our pastor prophesied during a night vigil in 1997, the internet phenomenon overwhelmed and transformed mass communication on the world wide web within ten years.
The world is now in the matrix of the digital ecosystem of the Internet of Things (IoT).

In 2011, Jason Njoku launched and soon made millions of dollars from his iROKO TV on the internet.
Chike Maduegbuna and his fellow developers launched their Afrinolly mobile video app in 2011 and then expanded into Afrinolly Space for GSM entertainment worldwide last year.
My iPost Nigeria was shortlisted for the 2014 FIRE Awards in Africa as the only Nigerian innovation that made the list of 10 finalists.
Blogging has made Linda Ikeji a  famous and rich millionaire in U$ dollars and highlighted on the CNN.
eCommerce is now dictating how we buy and sell.

Then on August 31, 2016, I met Mark Zuckerberg, the Cofounder and CEO of Facebook at the Afrinolly Space in Oregun, Lagos. Zuckerberg chose Lagos for his first ever visit to sub Saharan Africa.
Linda Ikeji has launched her own social network site, Linda Ikeji Social (LIS).
The prophecy has come to pass!

A video is currently making the rounds of this poor lady being molested and abused by these guys who were obviously intoxicated in the name of dancing as revelers cheered them on. The event is house party held in someone's compound as shown in the video.

The saddest part is when you realize that the lady was smiling most of the time as she allowed these idiots to degrade her and humiliate her like this in the name of entertainment. She however eventually started struggling for safety when it looked like the abuse could lead to death. Some people online said, that the reason she was smiling most of the time was because she was drugged.

Other ladies watched in amusement while the men hit her against a wooden table, jumped on her, threw her on the floor, toiched sensitive parts of her body and even threw her in a pool. It's one of the most extreme and bizzare videos one will ever see and it's currently trending on Facebook. From the music being played and the voice of the guy, it appears they are South African.

The lady also looked far more decently dressed than other ladies at the party. Here are shocking screen-shots from the video..

About two decades ago, I knew a young pastor who started his church with wooden benches in an open shop at the Morocco Bus Stop in Shomolu, Lagos. He invited me to fellowship with them and I accepted his divine invitations. Afterwards, I had a dream in which I saw him as the owner of a blue sedan. But he did not even have a bicycle then. I did not tell him about the dream And shortly afterwards, the dream came to pass. He got a blue sedan.

About six years ago when famous and rich millionaire celebrity gossip blogger Linda Ikeji was still struggling and she often visited me in the office. Sometimes, she would come with her laptop to sit by my side to learn as I mentored her.
We shared drinks, snacks and I bought her a whole pack of chocolates once.
"I want to be as popular as Bella Naija," Linda said to me.
"You will become more popular than Bella Naija," I told her.
She almost gave up blogging when a young rich son of a Nigerian millionaire wanted to marry her. He said he would give Linda N5 million to give up blogging as one of the conditions for marriage. She asked me for my advice. And I advised her to reject his proposal. She did as I said against the wishes of her parents who wanted her to marry the rich Lagos Big Boy and stop blogging.

Then Nokia had the first Bloggers Forum in Nigeria and I was invited. Nokia did not invite Linda Ikeji.
I spoke at the forum (see attached photograph) and later I told Nokia West Africa to invite her to the next Nokia Bloggers Forum. She was invited, and she told her younger sister Sandy to be there. That was how Linda got her first big break with Nokia.
Today, Linda Ikeji is not only more popular than Bella Naija, but she is the most popular and richest blogger in Africa and among the top ten richest in the world.

Just early this morning I saw a young girl living nearby in my vision. She boarded a public transport bus with me and we later came down at a certain place like we were going to the same place and I was her guide.
About an hour ago, I went to greet a woman who is an African braids hairstylist and has been the mentor of the girl.
"What of your daughter?" I asked her.
"She has gone to Cotonou with her mother for the Christmas holidays," she replied.
"When? Yesterday?" I asked.
"No. Today. In the morning," she replied.
I did not tell her about my vision.
I knew why Almighty God JEHOVAH showed me the vision of her trip. Because, I was the one who insisted that she must go to school instead of being used as housemaid by the Muslim landlady in the next house. And she started primary school in September. She told me earlier in the year that she wants to be a school teacher. I featured her with the mentor in my "Lagos in Motion" documentary film series and also included them in the first edition of the photo album of the film already published by Amazon. I must send a copy to her in Cotonou in Republic of Benin. Her family will love it. Almighty God JEHOVAH will make her a blessing to her family and generation.

Bible prophecies fulfilled:

Below is a selection of prophecies in the Bible that found fulfillment in the birth of Jesus the Messiah about 2,000 years ago.

The commentaries below are from the second edition of the book, 100 Prophecies, by George Konig and Ray Konig, who are the authors and copyright holders of the material. The commentaries are reprinted here with written permission from the authors. The third edition, revised and expanded, of 100 Prophecies: Ancient Biblical prophecies that foretold the future is available through Amazon.com.

100 Prophecies explains how Bible prophecies have been fulfilled in history. Click for more information.

Isaiah foreshadowed the virgin birth of Jesus

Bible prophecy: Isaiah 7:14
Prophecy written: Between 701-681 BC
Prophecy fulfilled: About 5 BC

In Isaiah 7:14, the prophet Isaiah addresses the "house of David," meaning the family and descendants of King David, and speaks of a virgin being pregnant with a child, and giving birth to the child. Isaiah says this in the context of it being a sign from God. He also says that the child would be referred to as "Immanuel," which means, "God with us."

The New Testament books of Matthew and Luke record details involving the birth of Jesus, who was born about 700 years after the time of Isaiah, saying that he was born of the virgin Mary and is the Son of God. Because he is the Son of God, Jesus literally can be referred to as "God with us."

Non-Christian scholars have challenged this interpretation. They say that the Hebrew word "almah," which is the word that Christian Bibles often translate as "virgin," actually means "young maiden" or "young woman." It should be noted that the Old Testament uses the word to refer to young, unmarried women, and that unmarried women were culturally and religiously expected to be virgins. One example can be found in Genesis 24:43, where it speaks of a person being sought as a bride for Isaac.

Isaiah 7:14 (NIV):

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

The Messiah would be born in Bethlehem

Bible prophecy: Micah 5:1-2
Prophecy written: Sometime between 750-686 BC
Prophecy fulfilled: About 5 BC

In Micah 5:2, there is a prophecy that reveals that Bethlehem would be the birthplace of the Messiah.

As pointed out in the book, 100 Prophecies, by George Konig and Ray Konig: "The prophecy is effective in a simple way: It eliminates all other cities and towns throughout the world as a place in which the Messiah could be born. It narrows the possibilities to one tiny village just south of Jerusalem."

And throughout the span of the past 27 centuries, from the days of the prophet Micah up through the present time, Bethlehem is credited as being the birthplace for only one person who is widely known throughout the world. And that person is Jesus Christ.

The New Testament books of Matthew and Luke name the town of Bethlehem as the birthplace of Jesus. Matthew 2:1-6 describes the birth of Jesus as the fulfillment of Micah's prophecy.

In recent years, however, some non-believers have attempted to discredit Matthew's interpretation of Micah 5:2 by claiming that the prophecy refers to a person named Bethlehem, not a town name Bethlehem. This claim has been widely circulated on the Internet by a college professor who describes himself as a former Christian minister.

The first problem with this claim appears in Micah 5:1. In that verse, the prophet establishes that he is speaking of Bethlehem the town, not Bethlehem the person, by setting up a context in which he contrasts the great city of Jerusalem with the humble town of Bethlehem.

A second problem with the claim is that there is also evidence outside of the Bible that shows that Micah 5:2 was regarded as a Messianic prophecy involving the town of Bethlehem. Here is an excerpt from the Jerusalem Talmud, which is a collection of Judaism-related writings completed about 1600 years ago:

"The King Messiah... from where does he come forth? From the royal city of Bethlehem in Judah." - Jerusalem Talmud, Berakoth 5a.

Micah 5:1-2 (NIV):

1 Marshal your troops, O city of troops, for a siege is laid against us. They will strike Israel's ruler on the cheek with a rod.

2 "But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins are from of old, from ancient times."

The Messiah would come from the tribe of Judah

Bible prophecy: Genesis 49:10
Prophecy written: As early as 1400 BC
Prophecy fulfilled: About 5 BC

In Genesis 49:10, Jacob is blessing his 12 sons. This blessing was also a prophecy. Jacob told his son Judah that his descendants would be rulers and that one of his descendants will be an ultimate ruler. According to the NIV translation: "The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs and the obedience of the nations is his." Christians acknowledge that this is a reference to Jesus Christ, whose kingdom will have no end. Jesus was born about 2000 years after Jacob died. Jesus' ancestry is traced back to Jacob's son, Judah, in Luke 3:23-34 and in Matthew 1:1-16. Today, there are some estimates that claim that there are as many as 2 billion Christians worldwide who follow the teachings of Jesus.

Genesis 49:10 (NIV):

The scepter will not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until he comes to whom it belongs and the obedience of the nations is his.

Nations would seek the counsel of Jesse's descendant

Bible prophecy: Isaiah 11:1-10
Prophecy written: Between 701-681 BC
Prophecy fulfilled: By the birth of Jesus about 2000 years ago

In Isaiah 11:1-10, the prophet Isaiah speaks of a ruler who would be a descendant of Jesse. Jesse was the father of ancient Israel's great King David. This descendant would rule with true justice and true faith, and he would establish true peace. This peace would be so great that even wild animals would be able to lie down next to one another. This descendant would also become a standard for people throughout the world. And, this descendant would be sought by people throughout the world.

This is an important prophecy for Christians because we believe that Jesus is the fulfillment of this Old Testament promise. Jesus, as explained in the New Testament, is a descendant of Jesse. And Jesus has become a standard for peoples throughout the world. In fact, Christianity is the first religion to spread to every country in the world. The words of Jesus, which speak of true justice, true faith and true peace, have been taught to people in every country in the world. We Christians also believe that Jesus will return in the future to establish a kingdom on earth, a kingdom of justice and righteousness.

There is an ancient Hebrew text, called the Targum Jonathan, in which Rabbis sought to interpret passages of the Old Testament scriptures. The Targum Jonathan shows that at least some of the ancient Rabbis believed that the message contained in Isaiah 11:1-10 was a reference to a Messiah. Here is an excerpt from the Targum Jonathan: "And there shall go forth a King from the Sons of Jesse, and the Messiah shall be anointed from his children's children." Jesse was the father of King David. But the Messiah would be a descendant of Jesse, specifically through his son David.

Isaiah 11:1-10 (NIV):

1 A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit.

2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him-- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD--

3 and he will delight in the fear of the LORD. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes, or decide by what he hears with his ears;

4 but with righteousness he will judge the needy, with justice he will give decisions for the poor of the earth. He will strike the earth with the rod of his mouth; with the breath of his lips he will slay the wicked.

5 Righteousness will be his belt and faithfulness the sash around his waist.

6 The wolf will live with the lamb, the leopard will lie down with the goat, the calf and the lion and the yearling[1] together; and a little child will lead them.

7 The cow will feed with the bear, their young will lie down together, and the lion will eat straw like the ox.

8 The infant will play near the hole of the cobra, and the young child put his hand into the viper's nest.

9 They will neither harm nor destroy on all my holy mountain, for the earth will be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.

10 In that day the Root of Jesse will stand as a banner for the peoples; the nations will rally to him, and his place of rest will be glorious.

NIV Footnote: [1] Hebrew; Septuagint lion will feed

The Messiah would be a descendant of King David

Bible prophecy: Jeremiah 23:5
Prophecy written: Sometime between 626-586 BC
Prophecy fulfilled: By the birth of Jesus about 2000 years ago

In Jeremiah 23:5, as well as in other Bible prophecies, we are told that the Messiah would be a descendant of King David.

The New Testament books of Matthew and Luke trace back Jesus' genealogy to King David. (Some scholars believe that the genealogy in Matthew is Jesus' legal line, through his adoptive father, Joseph, and that the genealogy in Luke is Jesus' bloodline through Mary).

Jeremiah 23:5 (NIV):

"The days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will raise up to David a righteous Branch, a King who will reign wisely and do what is just and right in the land.
