How to get a job or possibly increase you chance of getting a job in Nigeria This article is based on the following premises • Whether you want to agree or not there is no much job in Nigeria. The Federal Government estimates that about 39 million youths are unemployed. (recent statics put this figure at 40 million, 25% of the population, considering the insincere nature of the government chances are high that the figure is even higher. 40 million is the combined population of Ghana, Togo and Benin Republic. then imagine that everybody is in these three countries are unemployed, no one of them has a job. that is how scary the situation is) • Despite the above, there are still limited job vacancies. (It is this limited job vacancies the writer hope can be grabbed using the tips given) • There are about 100 person more qualified than you for almost any job vacancy so to get a job you have to outsmart the others Every now and then you hear youths mostly on social media blaming the Federal Government for not providing job for them or atleast creating an enabling environment to create their own job. While one cannot totally fault the youth for blaming the government one cannot also exonerate the youth for not doing much to secure job for themselves. The tips given in this write up does not in any way guaranty you of securing a job but will atleast increase you chance of getting one if followed. 1. Connect with your well to do relatives and contacts. There is no gain saying that one of the surest way of getting a Job with the state (Ministries, Departments and Agencies) and in private firm in Nigeria is relatively through what in colloquial term is known as ‘Man know man’ that is securing a job through your connection. Whether this is right or wrong is a topic for another day. Do well to reach out to your contacts that you think might help you secure a job. There is no shame in calling your lecturer, your maternal uncle, that big man in your church, your friend’s dad, your pastor, well to do classmate, a well to do friend on facebook to ask if he or she can assist in securing a job for you or putting a word for you in their place of work. If you don’t have any such contact take it upon yourself to look for it. Join social network of professionals like Linkedin to help build relationship with people of higher social caliber, write a letter to your councilor, your local government chairman, the law makers representing your zone etc. no matter how small the chances may be there is still a possibility that you can get a favourable outcome. God is likely going to use people you know to bless or favour you for job opening. However, it is equally not advisable to solely depend on man for woe is him who putteth his trust on man. I was a victim of this I graduated with a good grade. I have a fair share of ‘connected people,’ as a matter of fact because of my so called connection I didn’t deem it fit to apply for any job opening all through my service year (expect for one time when I wanted to test the worthiness of my CV) thinking that with my grade of degree and the people I know securing a job after service won’t be much of a problem. That was a silly mistake because the work didn't come immediately as i thought it would. Although I finally got a job based on who you know I realized that not seriously searching for a job in the course of NYSC was very risky as your “connected fellow” maybe not be in the same position to help you when you finish your service or that even if that “connected fellow” sincerely wants to help you there might not be any available job because the sad truth is that there are no much jobs. i know atleast two highly placed Nigerians heading top government position that can't secure job for their children simply because the job is not there. 2. Apply to professional companies. Yes you can argue that securing a good job in Nigeria is not much of designing a winning CV but in the context of Nigeria “man know man” yet you can’t take away the fact that most multinational companies recruit mostly on merit. So therefore you have to make research, ask question about companies that recruit on merit. One of such company is KPMG, Guinness Nigeria. Even if there exist favoritism it is not so high, meaning those candidates who do well in the test and interview organized by these multinational have about 70% likely to be employed. For this reason the writer is encouraging the unemployed youths to get themselves acquitted with nature and manner of test and interview conducted by these multinationals. Elitist government |
Afam4eva: Whether it was a payment of his evil deeds does not distort the fact that he won the election and ought to be crowned. If the Nigerian populace decide to vote in satan as their president, who are we argue otherwise. We're in a democracy.Abacha used his power and was adopted as the presidential standard flag bearer of all the political parties then, does that make him the choice of the masses? same thing is applicable to Abiola |
By all means without intent of perjury Abiola should not be celebrated as a national icon or hero. Lets call a spade a spade abiola was a sponsor to coup plotters. I wonder by what standard we declare or celebrate people as icon or hero in this country. Others that should not be celebrated as icon include but not limited to the following. Ojukwu, general murtala Mohammed etc |
And after Abati will lie to us that their is no running battle between amaechi and gej. |
360command: Okay now! I am ready to sign up to become a soldier for the Nigerian govt so as to fight this new group. PM me if you need my service .Please is this Sam Loco? |
Pro Gej and Jonah jang shouldn't heat up the polity. The state of the nation is very fragile now. Concede to defeat while there is still peace. |
Amaechi 3points Gej 0 point |
You mean to say achebe did nothing to renovate the primary school he attended. Achebe was too disconnected from Nigeria for my liking |
Amaechi 1 FG 0 Am expecting another victory today after the election of the governor's forum |

i hope people who have been shouting to justify that university education is not important and often point to mark to buttress their point can equally see how crucial the few years he spent as a student of Havard was instrumental to what he is today? mark before he dropped out of school has been developing lots of software and you dont have any tangible skill and handiwork and you are advocating university education is no the ultimate. |
This government is indeed a joke. How can you send people who are not employing labour (am sure the total no. of people p square n aki directly employ is not more than 50) to a world economic submit. I have nothing personal with the celebrities but with the ......government |
the only sure way to know if she is cheating is. grab her fone from her, run inside the toilet and lock the door. if she tries to break the door in an attempt to get her fone back then know that she is not just cheating but that you are equally single |
Boston bombing. President Obama 'we will find you and you will face justice' Baga and other related boko haram bombing. President Jonathan 'We will find you and we will grant you amensty' |
actually there can be a school without an exams. to the one that said there cannot be school without exams. many centuries ago the likes of socrates, aristotle, alaxendra the great taught people wihtout setting exams for them. am see looking for the man who introduces examination as a yardstick to measure academic performance. Anyway without exams a greater percentage of student wont read. i need not to tell you the danger of students not reading. |

Religion has killed one more person |
I like Buhari but however you look @ it him is guilty for this one. Evil thrives where good men do nothing..marthin luther king One of the most dangerous thing is to act indifferent or keep mute in terrible times. It is no doubt that buhari is a well respected elder statement in the north. His words are law. Why has he not categorically made serious effort on his own to talk to the boko haram boys which am tempted to believe that atleast they will give ear to him. Condemning and not giving out solution is a sin |
profjustine: The pig looks exactly like seun's grandfatherSomebody gave you a platform to express youself free of charge and all you can do is insult the person? Smh 4u |
Buhari is the only nothern candidate I can vote for. Buhara and ezekwizili for 2015 This way the ibos will be given a fair representation and thus a possible shot at the presidency after buhari's tenure Just so you know am not ibo am south south |

15 Police men killed by Niger Delta Boko Haram "MEND". Buhari should also appeal to them to stop killings right? Nigerians, we are yet to confront the main issues. Our problem is not Christians vs Muslims, it's bad leadership, extreme poverty, and massive corruption at the top. Despite the huge population of Christians in Lagos I don't know of any Christian that could've won against Babatunde Raji Fashola (a Muslim) at the last Governorship election in Lagos. Yet, most of these same non-Muslims that were able to different between result-oriented leadership and religion will allow themselves to be deceived by the Federal Government of the day that "the Muslims are trying to make Nigeria ungovernable because we have a Christian president" . Common now, for real? Nonsense! Well, it's on record that the first terrorist bomb blast in Nigeria (Abuja) was carried out by MEND - A terrorist group from the Christian dominated Southern part of Nigeria - take it leave it. So Our problem is neither the Nigerian Muslims nor Christians, rather, it's corruption and "kill-and-divide" religion strategy that is well played by politicians to disunite Nigerians, which is also highly supported by our respected spiritual leaders knowingly or unknowingly. Anyways, ignorant is not an excuse in the court of law so probably KNOWINGLY.... This is one topic most Nigerians are shying away from, religious sentiments and fear (False Evidence Appearing Real) has eaten deep into some souls. The political merchants and some corrupt Christian and Muslim leaders knows this quite well - and they have fun playing the same card every now and then..... Nigerians, we all need to wake-up and #kickoutsidonlook. Oladeji Ikuesan |
We have intelligent people in this country but corruption won't let them do the right thing. Am not gullible. I am seeing things from a different angle. I use to like elrufia but his incessant unconstructive criticism for jonathan is his weakenss. The interview is very mature and revealing. Gej might have fallen short but ... |
Ini edo was sent to represent AGN president. I did love to see her give a formal speech. @op RIP thespian. Sometimes I wish RIP means return if possible |
Gosh. Opray is so over hyped. |
henrisco: I really appreciate all ur contributions. However, i still hv a lot of reservations. God is supreme, Do men hv the right to change the command of God?If God has a problem with that am sure he would have communicated it to the church |
