and after they graduate what do they do?
Drive okada, sell okirika wake up or carry guns and harass innocent citizens.
Nonsense.
Are there any  sizeable percentage of graduates from SE,SW or SS that  go on to good jobs after graduation?
Most are living with their mamas and selling recharge cards and "trooping" to the American embassy to try their luck

The few that graduate from the improverished and illiterate north end up in Aso rock

The only thing this thread shows is that the SE and SW go to school in today's Nigeria more than other regions and  the SE and SS do better in test scores.
@ asha,I have read the statementt you alluded to about Igbo men being illiterate traders from several non Igbo Nigerians.
That is a myth,obviously.

The SW obviously was far ahead of the others for a while and cannot be said to be lagging behind in education by any stretch.
Even outside of Nigeria, most notable professors and academics you meet are mostly from the SW and SE

The take home message here is that Nigerians population census figure is false.

The SE may actually be the most populated area then the SW
But then again we all knew  way back that northern Nigeria has manipulated everything in Nigeria starting from it's wealth to their advantage
why they still lag behind in everything despite being in rulership for almost 40+ years beats me.
and some people would want to tell me there's no God.

CultureRe: Dowry For Igbo Wife by osisi2(f): 6:06pm On Feb 23, 2009
In most of Igboland from what I hear the dowry aka brideprice is not the issue
It's the list of things to buy that gets you.
In Abiriba for instance, the dowry is 6 naira 50 kobo or so and it has remained so
But the list on that small 20 leaves exercise book eh grin
IslamRe: Sharia Law Now Official In Swat Region Of Pakistan by osisi2(f): 5:45pm On Feb 23, 2009
Iran universities has around 65-70% girls compared to boys
girls that are forced to wear hijabs they detest, imposed on them by the menfolk.
girls are arrested, detained and flogged for wearing sexy hijabs
give me a break.
Do you know how many that have fled Iran for the US and thrown their hijabs in the toilets?
Of course there are more girls in school since the men are learning how to tie explosives to their lower regions and head to Aswani market grin

Saudi Univerities have separate campuses with thousands of girls studying
Girls that are taught by male professors they can't see face to face or ask questions face to face.
Girls that die in house fires because the fire fighters are not allowed to go rescue girls lest they turned on
Girls that only 5% of thm go on to be employed lest they turn men on.
Rubbish.
Girls that can't drive, started voting just the other day are forced to wear black penguin outfits and escorted by little boys around town.
Girls that can't own ID cards in their names and need male permission to even go to the doctors
Girls that can't go out to a restaurant to eat.
Girls that are flogged for having noisy shoes
UAE has univeristies with also different campuses with thousands of girls studying there
and after studying where do they end up?
married to some old man witrh 3 other wives.

Syria,Egypt,Yemen and every other middle easte countries have women studying extensively.
The muslim countries of Indonesia,Malaysia andeven in Pakistan all have women studying.
Studying and crying out to be freed from their hell on earth.
Studying as second class citizens stuck in a class and listening to man on TV
will you hire such a person
How many go on to get jobs?

It is more than evident that there is no basis for girls not studying in Islam
then tell us where is the Taliban get their views from?

.
Aisha the wife of the Prophet was a notable Hadith scholar as thousands of ahadeeth were transmitted through her and men would go to her to learn ahadeeth of the Prophet (SAW).
She also received punches on her chest for being nosey.
There's also a haith on that

Islam emphasises female medical practitioners so are they supposed to emerge if women werent allowed to learn. The occurence of this in a particular region showes it is more to do with the culture and not islam
.
and somehow that "culture" like child marriage, vvf, honor killing, beheadings, rape of slave girls, subjugation of women, suicide bombing and terrorism seems to operate in places where pilgrimage to mecca is a noble fit.
I wonder why?
God help you if your wife should have a complicated labour  that a midwife can't handle and there's no female OBGYN around since that field is taboo to men in shariah lest they get turned on by a dilated cervix.

However the introduction of shariah for the is a welcome development as they wish to live in accordance to their faith. The only issue of correct is the girls school which i said earlier
There are different sharias, and the Koran is their reference.
In Bahrain, shariah allows grown men to finger 1 year olds
allows child brides in most Islamic shariahs
cutting off of hands and feet and stonings of rape victims
In some areas shariah allows honor killings
still the same shariah.
shariah also allows men to beat up their wives.
Give me a break.

PoliticsRe: Bauchi Religious Crisis by osisi2(f): 1:38am On Feb 22, 2009
At least three people have been killed in the eastern Nigerian city of Bauchi, close to the scene of clashes between religious gangs last year.

Several churches and mosques were set on fire in the violence on Saturday and at least 28 people were injured, but it was not immediately clear what triggered the unrest.

"A number of churches and mosques have been burned and at least three people killed," the Reuters news agency quoted a Nigerian Red Cross official as saying.

But local residents said normalcy was returning to the city.

"The military has been drafted in now and everything is coming back to normal," Abdullahi Kwarbai, a resident, said.

Isa Yuguda, the Bauchi state governor, said: "The security agencies have been directed to deal decisively with the perpetrators of this mayhem."

Past violence

Hundreds of people died in Jos, the capital of neighbouring Plateau state, last year, in violence between Muslim and Christian gangs sparked by a disputed election.

Jos lies at the crossroads of Nigeria's Muslim north and Christian south.

The fighting was considered the worst unrest in Africa's most populous nation for several years.

Security forces in Plateau state were on high alert as a result of the deaths in Bauchi.

"We have placed security here in Jos on red alert. We want to forestall any eventuality here," Dan Manjan, a spokesman for the governor of Plateau state, said by telephone.

Nigeria is roughly equally split between Christians and Muslims, although traditional animist beliefs underpin many people's faith.

More than 200 distinct ethnic groups generally live peacefully side by side in the West African country, although civil war left one million people dead between 1967 and 1970 and there have been bouts of religious unrest since then.

Woman Turns Husband Into Punching Bag

A 50-year-old estate agent, Gbenga Ayeni, has approached an Agege Customary Court for the dissolution of the marriage with his wife, Moyosore, over alleged frequent physical attacks on him.

Ayeni pleaded with the court to dissolve the four-year-old union after accusing his wife, a hairdresser, of being responsible for his misfortune in life. The estate agent claimed that since he started living with Moyosore, he had had no rest of mind because she always fought him with broken bottles and other dangerous weapons any time they had misunderstandings.

He said there was a particular day she stripped herself when she fought with him and in the process, tore his clothes with the broken bottle she had in her hand. He told the court further that such repeated actions had made him to be fed up with the relationship and thus prayed the court to dissolve the marriage.

In her defence, the hairdresser said they were not legally married but her estate agent husband conned her into living with him as husband and wife. She said Ayeni borrowed some money from her, years back, to pay for his house rent, but when she needed her money to pay her own house rent, he could not pay her and in the process, she was sent packing by her landlord because she could not meet the deadline given to her.

She said Ayeni asked her to move into his house and that was how they started living together as husband and wife. The hairdresser further said that it was while living with Ayeni that she got pregnant and later bore him a male child, who is now one year old.

Moyosore added that she was surprised Ayeni wanted her out of his house after her money was used to rent the apartment in which they both lived, and impregnating her. Delivering his judgment, the presiding judge said since both agreed that the child was theirs, then, Ayeni should take the responsibility of the child’s upkeep. In addition, he was asked to get another rented apartment for Moyosore, for peace to reign.
so why should a man be asking the courts to dissolve a marriage that was never legal?
All he needed to do was move out.

Christianity EtcRe: Christian Girls And Modesty. Whats Your Take On This? by osisi2(f): 12:36am On Feb 22, 2009
The Bible expressly tells Christian women to be modest in dressing.
Modesty doesn't necessarily mean tying a scarf 24 hrs a day.
A Christian woman shouldn't have her boobs hanging out for all to see.
Anyone truly led by the spirit of God should know not to dress like a LovePeddler.
