If you can't afford to pay for your heating then whose fault is it that u dress like an eskimo or freeze to death. No food or heating for lazy man. There is no place like Naija but England is not as bad as people say. You can be a cleaner to pay your bills and attend school but that is temporary. Quality and hard work is lawys rewarded.

And most people who find it tough over a long period of time are those who lack relevant documentation and are stuck in the country. That is another topic entirely.
You must be very daft. Do you pay heating bill at a hotel or bed and breakfast?

That is why i wont mind going back to Nigeria if i get a job from here but i am happy with the company i am working for  currently because i am getting valuable experience and not working in Tesco and i am learning a lot,  I am fortunate because i had no need for a student loan or need to do any menial jobs. These were well taken care of.I live with my siblings
The way you guys mention Tesco, our equivalent of walmart,it's high school drop outs that work those jobs here.
Oh you don't even have a place of your own and you pay no bills and you call yourself an adult. How on earth will you understand what it is to pay heating bills and rent?
Let adults who are taking care of themselves talk while you stick to what you do best.(I'm sure you know what I mean).

Nov. 27 (Bloomberg) -- As many as 80 people were killed and 240 injured in India’s financial hub of Mumbai as gunmen armed with rifles and grenades stormed five-star hotels in the country’s first terrorist attack targeting foreigners.

“Mumbai is the New York of India and this is a clear attack on Westerners,” said Clive Williams, a terrorism specialist at the Australian National University. “The targeting of British and Americans means there is a new modus operandi.”

Fire spread through the luxury Taj Mahal Palace and Tower hotel, where terrorists were holding as many as 15 people hostage, the Press Trust of India reported. Army commandos were trying to flush gunmen from the Taj and two other luxury hotels, the Oberoi and Trident.

Targeting foreign nationals at key tourist hotels and restaurants adds a new dimension to a wave of bombings in India this year that has killed more than 300 people. A little known Islamist group called the Deccan Mujahadeen claimed responsibility for the attacks that began late yesterday, PTI said.

Multiple attacks have rocked India’s cities this year with bombs planted in markets, theaters and near mosques.

‘Sheer Chaos’

“It was sheer chaos,” said Manuela Testolini, a Canadian businesswoman who was dining at the Oberoi when gunmen burst in hunting for foreign nationals. “Every time we heard gunshots they were right behind us,” Testolini, who escaped through the kitchen with guests and hotel workers, told CNN television.

Militants remain in control of the Taj, in the heart of Mumbai’s Colaba tourist district, and the Oberoi and Trident, which are adjacent to each other in the financial district of Nariman Point, NDTV reported. Nine terrorists have been captured, five killed and three escaped, it said.

President-elect Barack Obama led global condemnation of the attacks as his transition team said the U.S. would work with “India and nations around the world to root out and destroy terrorist networks.”

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon called for the attackers to be “brought to justice swiftly.”

The U.S. State Department said it wasn’t aware of any American casualties in the attacks “at this point.” Two Australians were among those injured, according to the government in Canberra. One Japanese citizen was killed and another injured, the Foreign Ministry in Tokyo said.

Unilever Chief Executive Officer Patrick Cescau and members of the management team visiting the city are safe, the company said in e-mailed statements.

Explosions, Gunfire

The attacks, the worst in the city since train blasts in July 2006, began late yesterday with explosions and gunfire ringing out across the city. Shootings occurred outside Cafe Leopold, in the Colaba district of south Mumbai and at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, CNN-IBN television reported.

There was an explosion near a junction in Vile Parle, near the airport, where the remains of a taxicab were strewn across the road. Another explosion in a taxi was reported at Mazgaon dockyard road, according to PTI.

The miserly way of life in England is terrible.
You'll even feel bad eating their foods.
We once stayed in a flat with central heating.
My hubby and myself almost turned to icefish by morning.
They told us it wasn't yet time to turn on the heat. shocked shocked shocked shocked
freezing cold weather,a couple straight from Naija left to freeze to death because of  miserly UK
we dressed up like eskimos every night to go to sleep.
The romance in our marriage disappeared for the length of time we stayed there since I wasn't ready to turn to stockfish all in the name of cuddling.
That experience still sends shivers down my spine.

I know a man in London that started drinking and hanging out in the parks with homeless men.
A doctor o who was  a medical director of a hospital in Sokoto before he left.
Frustration set in when he couldn't pass his exams initially
His wife wanted to run back home with the kids and he hid the passports.
But things  changed for them eventually.
He told this story himself.

nice story osisi but some people are in that your category at the moment and some nigerians will look down on them.my bro in law also had to go through all that when he first relocated to america but he is doing quite well now.i really don't like the way nigerians make fun of certain jobs.for some  people those jobs are just a means to an end. Also agree for you to have a clear idea of your destination not just wanting to 'travel' beacuse everyone is travelling or beacuse 'abroad'i.e 'ilu or obodo oyinbo' is heaven. You are in for  rude shock.
You have to struggle man.nobody gives u anything for free.
I remeber when i was in UNI apart from my parents,i had like 2 uncles who saying Good morning to meant like 5 or 10k for baffs, where you wan see that one abroad.Your are On.Your.Own.Its good small sha it makes you appreciate when people give you because i sure know i used to take people giving me things for granted alot when i was younger.
Menial jobs as a temporary solution is Ok.It's survival job.
If a person with a degree leaves Naija  and comes here and for 3,4,5 ,8 years later, they're still changing diapers in a nursing home
Something is wrong
That's not right
That individual ought to enroll in school and study a marketable course or perhaps relocate to a new state and make new progressive friends

Another problem with Nigerians is that we all tend to cluster in the same areas with high naija population when we arrive
That's good initially but can be detrimental in the long run if care is not taken.
People would advise you based on their experiences and you could make fatal mistakes in the process.
There's a time to fashi the Nigerians you know and venture out with God's leading.

@ osisi

Where is the job here too, on average 1600 jobs are being lost daily and people are joining the dole queue. Go to the hospital A&E it is full of alchoholics who have lost their jobs and turned to alchohol.

As for the family one, that's the one that sends a shock to people's spine. The rate at which people ask their close relatives to leave is alarming. Can you imagine how many people arriving in UK and staying with your own blood sister and being asked to live after two weeks that they cannot afford to look after you again.

Hmmn, i don't even want to start on the number of people who arrive at the airport to find out that noone had bothered to come and pick them up. When you eventually get through to them, they tell you to take the public transport and find your own way shocked
This is a different environment so visitors should not expect to harboured till eternity.
Personally I only allow holiday makers in my home.
anyone with a visitors visa hoping to turn illegal and stay on is not welcome ,even if he's my blood relative
I can't arrange illegal marriage and don't have the time to drive people around looking for jobs and what if they fall sick ?
It's a big responsiblity to keep people with no concrete plans

My first job after I left Naija was washing dishes in an Indo/ paki restaurant.
Before then I had never worked a day in my life
Here I was from an average Nigerian family with 2 cars with an enviable degree from a prestigious first tier Nigerian university in London washing dishes in a smelly Indian restaurants with all the abuse.
But I needed to survive.
I had to eat so I did what I had to do but my goal was clear before me.
I knew that all I had to do was pass the professional exams and my situation would be reversed dramatically.
But there are many Nigerians who don't even have a degree falling over themselves at the embassies to leave Nigeria for England and America.

There are equally a good number of pofessionals in this country who are struggling too. Middle class people who should be relatively well off too struggle, they make an average of £30,000 per annum which is slashed to around £21,000 after tax, what are they left with after paying their mortgages, nothing, they often have to take on second, third jobs just to make ends meet, heard of moonlighting cheesy

So it's not easy everywhere and with the impending recession taking hold eveywhere, Nigerians in diaspora are in for a rough ride, fasten your seat belt firmly lest you fall cool
At least they can work a 2nd and a 3rd job.Where are the jobs in Naija talk less of 2nd and 3rd?

I already know people that have lost their jobs here.
And this is not a place where you can move in with relatives and go down to the East from Lagos to ride out hard times. The only place you can go to is a homeless shelter if not the streets.
People are suffering here sadly, they hide it very well from folks in Naija due to distance.

For Nigerians thinking of emigrating to the USA,I always tell them ,if you're not in the medical field or ready to switch over, please reconsider that move.
If you studied Philosophy,or BK in the University and hoping to live well here, you're kidding.
Anything you study in Nigeria that cannot earn you a professional registration with a board here in the USA after you take their exams, you're in for a steep climb. That's just the gospel truth.

I love this thread.
People ought to know that living "abroad" has it's challenges.
Leaving Nigeria without completing your degree to move "to abroad" is the most foolish thing anyone can do and I've seen several do it.
A girl left Unical after her third year to marry an americana husband, she regrets it daily.
