You don't get it, do you.? A specialty you are not licensed in you should not roam free irrespective of the number of procedures/ surgeries you've performed. The case is still under a consultant and the consultant monitors the procedures specifically covered in his specialty. As a general surgery resident, all the surgeries performed are under the consultant's name and none under the resident's name and no resident can perform surgery outside of their training facility cos they are not authorised and licensed. Doing that is tantamount to quackery, pure and simple.
madam, if u work in a teaching hospital, u will know that what you stated is exactly the status quo. Intact, if a resident Dr mismanages a patient, the consultant in charge plus d resident involved will have some explaining to do. Hence, most consultant won't want to smear their name by allowing residents to handle surgeries they aren't well trained for. If a resident decides to do that outside the training hospital without the consultants permission and messes up, He alone will suffer the consequences. There are bad eggs in every institution so dont come here and start generalising because some over ambitious drs that u heard or read about allegedly caused some havoc. You seem like you are familier with the system so y are you acting like an ignoramus? I believe u shld know all these . All that your talk about not being licensed to perform surgeries as a resident Dr is bullsh*t. As a senior reg in surgery dept, if you can't prove with evidence that you can do surgeries and manage complications as a consultant would, u can never be allowed to even write d final exam to turn a consultant. Now madam! Pls tell me how to achieve that without doing surgeries as a resident. Its just common sense.

Consultants are paid to consult and treat not hand over to their trainees" and comes when their attentions are needed, they are being paid huge ...damn it.!!
Well, General practitioners in sane climates do some level of residency...using US and UK as a case.
House officers, MOs, reg, senior regs are not specialist and are not supposed to roam free in a particular specialty, they should be monitored. They are not authorised to practice the stated specialty they are in that's why they are placed under a consultant. We allows a lot of impunity in Nigeria. Aren't you shooting yourself on the foot per the bolded, then why is the consultant needed.
what do you mean They are not authorised to practice the stated specialty they are in? Who is roaming free? Do you understand how d residency program works at all? Madam, just say u dont understand if u don't know so we can enlighten you. Its apparent your ignorance is really rooted very deep. In the residency program, for every level u get go, there are specific medical/surgical cases you are trained to handle. Infact, in surgery, before one is allowed to write a promotional exam, u should have performed an already stated number of surgeries/surgical procedures first. So what do u mean they shldnt practice in their specialty until they become consultants? Oh! U think medicine is to sit down in class and memorise surgical steps then u write an exam and voila! U don turn consultant? Lol. . U really are funny! They were put through stepwise on how to perform those surgeries over time and are only left to perform the procedures alone when d consultant trust them to do a good job. Also, so wetin happen if consultants earn that much? Have you gone to other fields to ask what consultants earn and ask if they sit down at work every day from 8-4? Madam! That is not even worth arguing about so lets not go there.

Blinded by prejudice, hardly!!!! Consultants are the professionals patients are assigned to especially in a teaching hospital, the HOs, reg and senior reg are just their students and lackeys who are supposed to be monitored but are giving a leeway in Nigerian hospital to commit medical blunders.
I am not twisting issues, stating it as it is.
hahaha! Its remarkable how u cunningly used d term "students" to describe even the senior regs so as to indirectly beat down the view of their competence in the eyes of the public.. Well, u aren't wrong. Residency is a training program so they really are "trainees" for a specialty. however, the moment ur issued a graduation certificate and a medical license, u have the absolute backing and trust of d govt to see and treat patients as a general practitioner. Yes! House officers included with the guidance of other senior drs. So don't u dare come over here and imply that only consultants have d competence to treat patients. If u expect consultants to sit down in the hospital waiting for patients like they are still house officers, then u have no idea what d word "consultant" really means.

yea right. I've seen them....working....hahaha....working indeed...always.
Are you aware that your chain of commands differs from others and how they do things.? Do you go about monitoring others to check whether they are always on ground or not? You are observant of your own turf and have no right in telling me about mine.
You and I knows fully well that your consultants are barely around to do calls. Its rare to see a Nigerian consultant in the hospital at night, the bucks stop with the senior Reg.

Stop denying a common knowledge.
hahaha. Now I can confirm re really the blind one. Did you not read d part I stated that consultants only come over when their attention is required. Y are you so blinded by prejudice? You brought up d issue claiming drs are hardly ever around during calls. I never brought up any issue about other paramedics not being around during calls so stop twisting issues and make your point.

How can people argue so blindly like this? Do you know the categories of health workers that do calls? No. BUT you have to come to an open forum to spew and expose your ignorance. The perioperative nurses and the nurse anesthetist receives call duty allowances cos they do calls.
As if there is a superiority contest between call and shift.

Doctor this and that. Be truthful for one, how many doctors be it HO,MO,Reg,Senior Reg, consultants have you ever met in either the consulting rooms or wards by eight and has the human mind to stay behind till four. Story trying to whip out emotions and sentiments from the public. We knows what goes around and things are done in our hospitals.
my dear I'm sure u can read. I said "most" not all paramedics. So don't come here and start spewing rubbish like u know what's up. I work in a teaching hospital and I can tell u categorically that drs are always on ground either in their call rooms, wards or emergency units. There's a chain of command. Consultants are summoned when their presence is required but the major work is by the H.O.'s M.Os, Regs. Obviously, u are d ignorant one Implying that calls and shifts should be taking as one and thesame...lol

Oga stop misleading people. You are a liar. No body is complaining about basic salary.those medical doctors cheated other paramedic in allowances. Imaging giviñg paramedic 20 to 23k as call allowance compare to 60 to 65 k for doctors call allowance. That is a great injustice.
The major problem of you people is that you always look down on paramedics.
Remember am talking with experience. I see it by myself.
Imaging hearing doctors telling radiographer that what they know is to snap picture, pharmacy as drug counter.
oga! Ur d one misleading people. Most paramedics don't do calls. They do shifts. There's a difference so don't expect equal pay. Paramedics work 8hr shifts a day. Drs work 8am till 4pm the next day on call days. Abeg calculate that. Yet u still want to be paid thesame? Na wah o.

I am not a doctor nor a nurse but i know by experience that a patient's life is safer in the hands and care of nurses than all those lazy and quack doctors in all the teaching hospitals in nigeria. A lot of people have died and still dying because of carelessness of these doctors who cant even practice abroad because their licences will be seized and litigation by patients will send them to jail. u have spoken well. I salute you. I hope and pray u never need medical/surgical intervention in future, but if for any reason u need or a close associate does for a perforated typhoid ileitis,sub-dural hemorrhage secondary to head injury or anything else, make sure u go to that your well trained nurse for treatment.

For those who may not Understand, let me explain what JOHESU means to you.

The nurses(who spent three years in Nursing school. A few of them got part-time Bsc. )
The ward orderlies(in other words, messangers, secondary school leaving certificate holders)
Admin staff(who literally spend half of the day gossiping at their desks)
Technicians(who fix the bulbs and other hospital property)

but also,
the microbiologists, lab scientists, and the most pathetic of all, pharmacists.

Their agitation is that the Doctors get better paid than them. But, listen again, and think about it. Can all the afore mentioned people be paid the same amount of money?

Interestingly, pharmacists get paid almost as much as the Doctors. But the truth is that Doctors work all day long and as well do calls. whereas they shift their own services and what do Pharmacists do in hospitals? They DISPENSE drugs. Their mates in other countries manufacture drugs for the populace..but they ONLY dispense the drugs a Doctor must have prescribed for a patient. Most of these microbiologists and pharmacists chose medicine as their first choice courses but were given these courses of study. of course, logically there is a difference.

the level of expertise, the amount of mental input and the amount of workload have great effects. How can any of these, educated people not understand and think every managerial problem they have has to be against the Doctors.

Pharmacists forming a union with these other people irks me. they have thrown their profession to the dogs. and no, it is completely absurd for a ward orderly to want the same salary level as a Doctor and for pharmacists and lab workers to join in such ridiculous agitations.

These people are only trying to sabotage tthe Federal Government and should be dealt with accordingly.
God bless you. Though I disagree with some of your assertions. I know very commited lab scientists, pharmacists, nurses and more that take their work seriously. Its not all of them. There are also drs that are terrible with their jobs too so lets not go down that line. That aside, The funny thing is there is even a whole lot of dis unity within their unionism that d public isn't even aware of. Or u think medical lab scientists won't protest about salary increase if the salaries of lab technicians starts getting closer to theirs?

What lame excuse? There has always been a ratio/relativity between the pay of MD'S and other members of the healthcare team. When there's an increase in one isn't it only logical that the relativity be maintained? Or the other members should just sit and watch the margin grow wider?
this your point is the main reason drs protested for relativity and skipping and got their entitlement. If johesu feels there's still an imbalance with relativity, state your grievances and don't start tainting d image of drs in the process by professing lies that we don't deserve what we got.

Blog Reader Feels Molested by Male Doctor Who Squeezed Her Breasts

Hello Princess,
I dont know if I should tell my husband about this or just swallow it so as to avoid causing problems or a confrontation. I went to ****** hospital close at Alausa to check for chest lumps. A very young doctor came strolling in to the office where I was asked to wait. He looked so young that I was even tempted to ask him if he was really a doctor or was a student on houseman-ship but I decided to keep cool as he was wearing their white gown as was actually assigned to me by the admin at the general waiting area.
The hospital was actually recommended by my sister in-law who had her mammogram there. It was my first time and I was very uncomfortable when he asked me to remove my top and bra and then he started touching my breasts. I decided to close my eyes and wait for him to finish the examination. The touching soon turned to caressing and at a point he seen to concentrate on my nipple and to be honest, I have a very sensitive nipple and the always harden and jut out when touched (even breast feeding my babies felt that way)

This went on and on until I was almost shivering. I was embarrassed beyond words and wanted to ask if lumps form in the nipple area but i felt so violated to speak. I opened my eyes to tell him to stop only to discover that he was looking at me smiling sheepishly! All the while he’s been handling my breasts!

I felt so awful. I felt used and molested. He didn’t say a word, I removed his hands and dressed up while he continued smiling and then started saying some medical trash that didnt make no sense to me cos I wasnt listening anymore. When I finished dressing up, he even asked me to come back in 7 days time for another round of checks as I left his office.
This happened on Monday and up till now I have this heavy feeling of being violated by a kid. I still cannot calm down, as if I was defiled. I have been moody and unable to tell my husband. Please what should I do?

Your Thoughts?

Yeah, I know this was from an agony column on a 'blog' for Pete's sake but one can't be too careful these days as the #Endtimes chanters would wanna have you believe besides I'm yet to forget numerous tales of these pathetic souls who throw all caution to the winds on the path of destroying another's virtue and sanity (https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=doctor%20caught%20molesting%20patients&gws_rd=ssl).

But why any self-respecting person would do this i just can't imagine! The woman should just take up the issue, abeg.
im sorry You feel violated however i would like to point out what the Young dr did wrong.
1. He didnt explain the procédure to You before he started.
2. He didnt ask for a female colleague/nurse to be présent during the examination.
You would notice i didnt mention anything about molesting You. Here os the reason: The typical clinical breast examination involves all what You mentioned. Strange right? Here Is a brief overview of a clinical breast examination that all well trained drs should do in cases like urs:

Before your breast exam, your health careprovider will ask you detailed questions about your health history, including your menstrual and pregnancyhistory. Questions might include what age you started menstruating, if you have children, and how old you were when your first child was born. A thorough breast exam will be performed. For the exam, you UnCloth from the waist up. Your health careprovider will look at your breasts for changes in size, shape, or symmetry. Your provider may ask you to lift your arms over your head, put your hands on your hips or lean forward. He or she will examine your breasts for any skinchanges including rashes, dimpling, or redness. This is a good time to learn how to do a breast self-exam if you don't already know how. As you lay on your back with your arms behind your head, your health careprovider will examine your breasts with the pads of the fingers to detect lumps or other changes. The area under both arms will also be examined. Your health care provider will gently press around your nipple to check for any discharge. If there is discharge, a sample may be collected for examination

i Hope You now get the picture. If You have more reasons to feel You were violated, pls take up the case but pls be 100% sure cos This Is someone's carrer we're talking about. The damage Will be felt throughout his life time even if if You eventually realise you were wrong
