hotmolo: D post says he was relieved for proper investigation to b carried out not dat he was found guilty nd sacked. Its normal for heads of organisations to b removed or resign in order not to interfer in an investigation. So long as he wasn't indicted, I see no issue herewhen people of high esteem are suspended/sacked, its almost always presented to the public in a less embarrassing way just for respect sake. Even when managers of football clubs are fired, the public is told that d contract was dissolved, based,on mutual agreement when we all know better so what is your point here? It says alot about the credibility of d minister. To be honest, I agree that this information coming out now suggests its meant to tarnish his image but that doesnt make the release of this info wrong if its true. We should all be aware of the kind of people we make our leaders. It shows Nigerians are the architects of their own problems because someone with this questionable history should not be awarded a leadership position |

Ashantiking: That's why I said african government are killing Ebola victims, I didn't mention any country because I was talking about countries that has had ebola for months now. Nigeria just got ebola two weeks ago.Well, even if they do not survive it, its not a conspiracy because the prognosis has always been poor and chance of survival slim. We all pray they do but d truth is its most likely that more of the already infected cases will still give in to the disease. Its not being pessimistic. Its just d statistical fact. God help us all. And for your info, the number of deaths in these other African countries u mentioned are a whole lot less than d number of cases presently. Google it yourself. |
Ashantiking: I haven't witness it but before the ebola became hot topic people were surviving it even it was 2 out of 10 cases but now we are yet to hear of any one surviving it. And how come people are dying so fast from it now.if you understand what Ebola hemorrhagic fever really is and how it progresses, u won't be making this comment of yours. Ist, we've had only abt 3deaths in naija and about 8infected victims presently. Did you read any news that the 8 other infected people are now dead? 2ndly, it is a known fact that 90% of infected people die from it. Early presentation in a health facility helps reduce that percentage to about 60%. 3rdly, the disease progression has always been very fast from when IST symptoms develop to death in d unfortunate many so d fact that ppl die quickly is not news. Do your research well and pls stop spreading these false rumor on social ntwks. Its not gonna do anybody any good |
Ashantiking: They are running because everyone with sense knows that african government are killing people with suspected ebola. Majority ilof the dead didn't die if ebola, it is the government that is killing them.it is people with this mentality of yours that has caused this outbreak to develop to this unprecedented level. Who is the "everybody" that knows govt has been killing people infected with Ebola? Have you witnessed any killing yourself? Do you even realize that even you, your family and friends are more at risk if you don't stop spreading all these false conspiracy theories on social media.. This is the first time there's an outbreak in west Africa; this is d first time an outbreak is affecting capital cities and this is the worst outbreak ever. This details enough should give you the impression that our African mentality is what's worsening this situation. If it were in any other civilized nation, we probably won't hear more than about 3 cases cos people take public health measures alot more seriously there and people have the sense not to spread conspiracy theories that would worsen the situation as you are doing now. Ebola is not a smart virus. public health measures like hand washing , hygiene and reporting suspected cases to the key bodies does a whole lot in curtailing the spread. This is the info u shld be spreading to the populace, not allegations that would put everybody's lives at risk. |
The United States, Thursday, took control of more than $480 million looted by former Head of State, General Sani Abacha and his allies after a court ruling, according to the Justice Department. The money which was stolen by Abacha during his 1993-1998 tenure and stashed in banks around the world will be returned to the Federal Government, the U.S justice department added in a statement. “Rather than serve his country, General Abacha used his public office in Nigeria to loot millions of dollars, engaging in brazen acts of kleptocracy,” U.S Assistant Attorney General Leslie Caldwell said in the statement. Reuters reports that, “U.S. District Judge John Bates in Washington ordered on Wednesday that the funds, frozen by the Justice Department in March, be forfeited to U.S. control. The judgment includes about $303 million in two bank accounts in the British offshore center of Jersey and $144 million in two bank accounts in France. Three accounts in the United Kingdom and Ireland hold at least $27 million, the statement said. Claims to another $148 million in four investment portfolios in the United Kingdom are pending Abacha, who took took power in a coup, died in 1998. Nigeria has been fighting for years to recover his money, but companies linked to the Abacha family have gone to court to prevent repatriation. Between $3 billion and $5 billion of public money was looted during Abacha’s regime, according to Transparency International. The Justice Department suit filed in November 2013 saying that Abacha, his son Mohammed Sani Abacha, their associate Abubakar Atiku Bagudu and others embezzled, misappropriated and extorted money from the Nigerian government. They laundered funds by buying bonds backed by the United States using U.S. financial institutions, prosecutors said. The assets were held in banks that included Deutsche Bank AG , HSBC Holdings Plc and Banque SBA, according to the lawsuit. In June, after a 16-year legal battle, Nigeria recovered from Liechtenstein $228 million stolen by Abacha and his associates. As of last year, Nigeria had recovered about $1.3 billion of Abacha’s money from various European jurisdictions.” http:///Z8esriVXPR |
It has been revealed that the late Patrick Sawyer who was Nigeria’s index case for the Ebola virus was actually under surveillance by the Liberian health authorities, even though he still managed to board a flight heading outside his country. The Minister of State II for Foreign Affairs, Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed said this while relaying a conversation between Liberian President Ellen Sirleaf Johnson and Nigeria’s Ambassador to Liberia, Ambassador Chigozie Oby-Nadozie. According to Mohammed, President Sirleaf Johnson in a telephone conversation with Nadozie had expressed regrets at the circumstances through which the virus had been brought to Nigeria by Sawyer who was under surveillance. There have been reports that Sawyer’s sister had died of the virus. http://nnd.ng/1olKrQK |
Well, there appears to be some conflicting reports then. Time will tell. September is just a stones, throw away. Hope your report is the right one though |
This is false. Just read a CDC telebriefing about the ebola outbreak in west Africa. It was clearly stated that there wont be any human trials of any ebola vaccine in this outbreak cos the vaccines are not ready and have not been proven to be effective. Heres d link: http://www.cdc.gov/media/releases/2014/t0728-ebola.html |
Erm, u seem to be misunderstanding some things here. I apologise if im wrong but u seem to be bent on the idea that virtually every r@pe victim engaged in some form of risky behaviour first which eventually led to the r@pe and that is soo not true. The 17yr old victim i mentioned didn't go for d vigil alone. She was with her mom but she stepped out of the church to urinate alone. Its not strange for a teenager to be in a night vigil.People do that with their families all the time especially on Christmas and new years eve. Even children below 5yrs of age get r@ped, many by neighbours, uncles or even their own fathers. Are we gonna say they did something risky b4 that happened? Of course not. The point is No matter how careful one is, sometimes, bad things happen. Yes, i talk to kids and young adults to avoid behaviours that endanger themselves whenever and wherever i can. Using a forum like nairaland makes the information dispensation alot more effective and everyone that cares should do the same or at least try to do something. Its not a pointless campaign. Plus, majority of the members of nairaland are young adults who are prone to this same risky behaviour we're talking about so im still achieving my goal. In addition, Sexual assault is a world wide problem. Its not unique to Africans alone. The incidence is also very high even in developed countries like the usa and their youths engage in alot more risky behaviours than ours so lets not be harsh on Africans about this. Its not an African disease though i agree that some certain African beliefs and mentalities encourage this. |
Well, you are very correct that a good number of cases result from risky behaviours which many victims had engaged in but lets not deny the fact that a very good number are also just victims of circumstance. Recently i met a 17year old victim who said the incident happened when she stepped out from a night vigil at church to urinate. She was attacked by three young men and was raped by two of them. Do we say it is her fault because, she didn't call someone to accompany her to the toilet? Certain risky behaviours of many women exposes, them to the crime and i mentioned many of them in my post but No behaviour justifies being raped. The crime has come to stay so the best way to handle this is to avoid putting oneself and ones children in risky situations which was the major point of the post. |
During the course of my practice as a medical practitioner, I fairly regularly encounter cases of sexual assault, most involving females between the ages of 15-24years, many even younger and everytime I get a combined sense of sadness and anger; sadness about the physical and emotional trauma these innocent beings have been put through and anger that very likely, the perpetrators would get away with it. It is a well known fact that sexual assault is the most underreported violent crime anywhere and everywhere in the world, the reason for this isn't far fetched: feelings of shame and guilt by the victims, fear of what the perpetrator would do to them if not fought or convicted and so on. Its also unfortunate that the community doesn't encourage victims to report the crime because of the very common mentality that victims must have done something sexually suggestive before they got raped, hence they usually don't take it as seriously as they are supposed to. For example, I was appalled one day when a 15yr old came to my clinic to report that she had been raped and one of the people I work with asked her why she was reporting the incident and that didn't she enjoy it? Its terrifying but the truth is a good number of Nigerians have this same mentality, however the truth is most perpetrators are people the victims are familiar with, people the victims have a certain level of trust in who then take advantage of this trust to commit this dastardly act. Another sad thing about this issue is that for the very few people who report this incident, the police usually bring the victims to the hospital thinking an examination is all that's needed to confirm the victim was molested but, the truth is usually, the best we can do with the facilities and expertise on ground is to get evidence suggesting that penetration was made, however, to prove that an accused is the actual perpetrator, a raape kit, a well equipped crime lab and well trained expertise is required which is highly deficient in this country and very expensive to do where it is available, hence, most times, if a confession or eye witness account is not available, the rapist very often gets away with it and probably moves on to plan for his next victim. Many serial rapists know these loopholes and take advantage of it. From all that has been stated above, its evident that the best way of controlling this cancer that is silently destroying our sense of wellbeing is to find ways of protecting ourselves and our children from this cause the physical emotional after effect can be brutal and the possibility of justice afterwards is not encouraging at all. Here are a few ideas: 1. Trust no one. Be vigilant with the people you surround yourself and your children with. Many incidents have been commited by people as close as family members, next door neighbors, house helps, gatemen, home tutors and so on. 2. Form an interactive relationship with your children so they can feel free to tell u things like when someone makes awkward advances on them and when someone asks them to do innapropriate things. Its also important to educate them from a very young age on what is inappropriate. 3. Only accept canned Orr bottled drinks that haven't been opened in parties and social gatherings. Date rape drugs are not a myth. They are very real and very much in circulation. 4. Drink alcoholic beverages with caution in parties and social gatherings. 5. Try as much as possible to avoid walking alone in dark secluded places. 6. Pepper spray: its a very effective concealed weapon but not so common in Nigeria. However, I believe one should be able to get it in d major cities like Lagos, Abuja, ph if you do your research well. 7. The most important is ALWAYS remember to pray to Baba God. Many have been extremely careful and still fell victims. One can only do so much on our own. We need his guidance everyday to see us through each day safely. |
James Avery -- the beloved dad on "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air" -- has died at age 68 ... TMZ has learned.Sources close to the actor tell TMZ he died in an Glendale, CA hospital last night. Avery had undergone open heart surgery and took a turn for the worse late yesterday. And we're told ... his wife, Barbara, had been at his bedside but left for a short period of time and when she came back ... she learned he had just died. http://m.tmz.com/2014/01/01/james-avery-dies-fresh-prince-of-bel-air-actor-will-smith-alfonso-ribiero/ |
Pentatonix-little drummer boy..mehn! This is one carol u'v just gotta watch or listen to. |
Its definitely risky.the nasolacrimal "duct" as the name implies helps in draining tears from the eyes into the nasal cavity.it doesn't produce tears so blockage will cause excessive tears production not drying of eyes.it'l almost seem like the person is crying everytime.its called "epiphora" |
We're so blinded by religion we fail to realise the truth even when its staring straight at us in the face.yes he probably did it but we the congregation are as much to blame as the pastor is because we made ourselvelves so easily fooled by people who claim to be God-sent.its normal to expect more from pastors but its just stupid to totally drop your guard and surrendering all authority over yourselves to mere mortals like brainless morons.the bible is there for all of us to study and meditate in not for just a few selected group of people to read out loud and interprete the way they understand it and for us just to accept it like that even if his/her explanations might not make a whole lotta sense.even if a certain pastor tells u to do something questionable, only common sense should let u know it is wrong.many have subconsciously given those bearing the pastoral status absolute power over them so if some supposed pastors choose to take advantage of that,we are as much to blame as the pastors are.God help us all |
I know miracles happen but there's more to this story than this.people are just so clowded by religion that they fail tosee beyond the surface. In typical turners syndrome,d womb is absent but In some variants of turners syndrome, there is actually a womb but not fully developed so pregnancy can occur only d possibility is slim.its possible this is d case here, plus there are other possibilities so u shld rule all these out before u start claiming d woman was wombless .Blind religious sentiments have made nigerians too gullible to deception. Someone mentioned womb transplant. Well, all I can say is =))º°˚˚˚°ºнaĦaнaº°˚˚˚°º=))!!! |
Well,he might look like a kid but his bank account doesnt |
justwise: That is not truethat is very true from sources that got it very recently.Except ur source's from ppl that got it years ago.Of course they'd be some exceptions but I'm talkin about the greater majority. Those that eventually stay there afterwards are those that have to come back and succeed in getting their visa's renewed. |
zumbigbo: Afam4ever is the only thing becoming redundant here.yes I agree the majority are suffering in nigeria but a good reason many of the nigerian immigrants in uk are seemingly able to "cope" there is because they get pity and help from other nigerians already there who many times are illegal immigrants.Even when u get a study visa or something to the uk,the duration is set so that it expires just about a month after you graduate making it difficult to get employment there so its obvious they don't want you around.their recent immigration laws buttresses on that fact.the truth is the standard of living is a lot better than here but its highly overrated.Even the citizens would confirm that so kinni big deal? |
sage_: Any incentive to encourage people who might want to leave the poorer-by-the-day UK?a lot of nigerians there don't even have the money to leave even if they wanted to so they might even prefer deportation.@least, they won't have to pay a dime |
I wonder why nigerians still dey rush go suffer 4 dis poverty stricken tax masters who obviously don't want you around. Iya buruku le ko maa lo je nibe. There are far better places to immigrate to |
aurenflani: So far you're the only poster who showed some level of rational thinking. The rest are just noise makers who themselves are guilty of many things yet have brains that only prompts to accusations against others.wow!so because some "supposed" states in the us practice it,its not a big deal ehn!u must be really "smart".never knew the us had become a yardstick for what is right and what is not.secondly, points without evidence in form of links to webpages is worth absolutely zilch so don't expect us 2 accept that point about the us hook line and sinker |
omonnakoda: There is no benefit to anyone from a doctors strike. Why should government fund doctors training? Truth is many of the doctors here still reason like undergraduates with little knowledge of the world or reality. Does government pay for training for pharmacists,or other health professionals? This is a political issue and in many places where government does this for doctors they(residents) earn much less than nurses and other professionals until they qualify. In short they make a sacrifice and then when they qualify they serve the nation. In Nigeria they bullied the nation into paying superlative on call allowances and when they qualify most leave government employ. Why should government pay for you to better yourselfnow its evident u don't av a clue what the strike is all about.it's about funding the training of residents not payin d residents for further training.proper Funding of training means providing funding for the necessary equipments and gaining of experience needed to standardise the residency program.residency is the post graduate program needed before drs can become specialists/consultants who are the major factors that help move the health setor.for example,a patient with fibrillations is brought into the hospital and there is no machine called a defibrillator around to help, and even when there is a defibrillator,no resident knows how to operate it because they have no training on it.hence, the patient dies only b'cos of lack of facilities or inadequate training.thesame thing will continue to repeat itself and drs will continue to be seen as incompetent if nut'n is done abt it.this is a perfectly good example of what we're talking about. Just try 2 wipe out the prejudice u have and visualise the greater picture. Shikena |
From the arguments above, its evident that many people are so beefed up against drs that they've chosen to overlook the benefits of this struggle to the general populace.the reasons for the strike has been clearly stated here, all amounting to standardizing and augmenting the efficacy of the medical practice in nigeria but I'm still amazed at how people have chosen to believe what they want to believe.the last time drs went on strike due to the failure of the govt to fulfil the agreement they made about salaries, everyone criticised them saying they weren't fighting on improving the health sector and that its always about money;now they are striking 2 better the health sector and ur still critisizing them.Haba!.that is very unfair.when patients die because of lack of facilities,we blame the drs.now that they are fighting for steps for improvement,we are still critisizing the drs.in other words, drs can never do anything right in this country.that's very naïve and shallow.we all know strike is the only language the govt understands so if other sectors have chosen not to fight for improvement, stop critisizing drs for doing so.yeah,I totally agree patients will suffer the most because of the strike but a lot more patients will suffer and die if nothing is done about the present situation of the health sector and unfortunately, this is the most effective means of making such improvements in this nation.plain and simple |
Double post |
One reason this will fail in this country:our lawmakers are our number 1 lawbreakers.this is a joke that won't ammount to anything.Even marijuana is illegal but we all know how easily its gotten on d market and how openly it is smoked.plus, a good number of our law makers and a great number of our law enforcers are addicted to cigarette and ganja so its certain little to nothing will be achieved by doing this.Stricter control measures on its sales and distribution so children will not have access to it,Banning smoking in public places and in enclosures with non-smokers is easier to execute than a total ban. unfortunately, even what I just listed is easier said than done in this country..lol. |
Dygeasy: I wonder why the family is still filing lawsuits. MJ was already weak in the body before his death and he needed to be up and doing. His doctor had to do something to keep him up hence the heavy dosage. Its painful he died tho, but the doctor only wanted to keep the superstar active.I agree there's no point to this lawsuit but make no mistake, the dr did everything wrong if you really followed the story well.propofol shld is a very strong anaesthetic agent and shld never be given to anyone at home and without supervision.the dr claimed he was monitoring him and only stepped out for a few mins but that short duration of abscence was what it took for what went wrong.I'm sure if not for the amount of money he was gonna be paid,he would never have taken the risk he did. |
A masters program is a great opportunity 2 diversify into whatever field u're interested in. There's even a masters program in medicine related to engineering of hitech medical machines which many schools offer.all u need to do is broswe through these various programs and pick 1 closest to your interest.I assume u did this before choosing an mph program which is not a bad idea.To be blunt with u,going back n starting afresh after @least 7yrs of the craziness of medicine is a stupid idea.I studied medicine too so I know exactly what u're going through |
I'm sure Jang understands that the majority supported him out in the open doesn't mean they actually voted for him.you don't need 2 be a genius to know that.its who has the majority as evidenced on paper that matters, not the assumption before the election. However,a rigging of an election with only 35 participants is probably not impossible in Nigeria, however pathetic and dissapointing it may seem.its sad but this country is trash.God help us all |
