Good morning good Nairalanders. I have an amateurish interest in history and have been wanting to delve into Nigerian history for a while now.
Therefore I am requesting the help of Nairalanders for book recommendations and suggestions on Pre, during and post colonial history of the Nigeria, Yoruba especially.
threads and other materials will be appreciated.
thank you. |

festacman: These throwback pictures show that Zlatan had NORMAL childhood with stable background. I am not sure if that's his objective but it is an excellent image building act that would positively position him in people's minds as a GOOD BOY who is only ACTING 'crazy' as part of show business stunts. It will soften people's negative perception of him in view of his close association with Naira Marley. Apt |

cococandy: When he gets the Filipina to America and or he is lucky to get one that is already here who he won’t have to file visa for, he will know what’s up.
Just two purchases of Louis Vuitton and Chanel per month will make sure that any dream he has of having a bit of money is squashed.
They don’t joke with their material stuff.
The grass is always greener on the other side.
A typical Filipina will spend $3-5k per month on only luxury goods. He should make sure he can afford that. And they are not like Nigerian women who hustle into medical fields to make money for their husbands and families back home.
I just laugh at the ignorance on this forum. so in your haste to defend your people, you choose to use a negative stereotype about Filipinos just to boost yourself up.... it's quite fascinating really, the ability to be stupid while accusing others of abandoning their brains |

NPComplete: Jesus dude. How does illiteracy equate to knowing nothing about science? Even the illiterate knows how to use a phone; knows to visit a doctor or pharmacist when he is ill; knows to fill up his car with fuel and not water etc.....
I am disappointed at this your explanation. Dude, the fact that I'm using something does not mean I know something about it. That an illiterate goes to a doctor doesn't mean he knows there's science involved, all he knows is that he goes to visit the man in white coat when he's feeling ill, the man gives me a slip, another man in a white coat gives me some pills and he takes then and feels well. the man has used the product centuries and decades of scientific research, yet he remains completely ignorant about it. I do hope you realize you can use something and remain ignorant, know absolutely nothing about it. And for Bleep sake, how can you be scientifically literate if you can't even read |

kay29000: I'm not talking about the names she used. I'm talking about the theme... she used traditional Nigerian gods (Orishas) and sorcery, not made up stuff. The girl grew up in America, so she is a little more American than Nigerian, but I like that she asked her parents about the Yoruba culture/language and incorporated some Yoruba/Nigerian stuff in it. You have read the book... you want to say you didn't feel connected to some words she used, unlike Black Panther that was purely fictional. I didn't realize she grew up overseas, the ami inclusion on her name took me away. Although, in retrospect, that makes more sense, a lot more sense. |

NPComplete: Did u just pull this number out of a hat? Even your 90 year old grandma knows about science. She may call it Oyinbo stuff but she understands its usefulness. Short of undiscovered tribes in the Amazon and other parts of the world everyone else knows about science. And, collectively, they are hardly up to 5 million.
So where did u get your number from? If u had said "hundreds of millions of people get by without science", that would have been a bit more tenable. The world has an overall literacy rate of 51.3% that means approximately 49.7% of 7 b people are illiterate do the math |

emperorlaqrin: Mr in as much as I don't want to go into words with you cos I understand clearly the area you coming from but I challenge you to your "UNBELIEVER".
You see because you a xtian and the opposite person is a Muslim does not make you nor the person and UNBELIEVER cos you both know the religion you are practicing .
Sincerely we have allowed religion to eat deep into our soul in this country and thereby we neglect the fact that We are all created by one SUPREME BEING.
I am a Muslim but am from a family of xtian and Muslim and there as never been issue of all this natures since I have grown as an adult from my parents likewise we the children chose the religion we want to practice without anyone dictating to us.Yeah I accept the fact that they should both talk things over before marriage cos that's the KEY to there successful union.
I am a very good example here and this just happened to me few months ago , I had a xtian lady am dating for say like 3years and I am practicing Islam and this lady eventually ended the relationship with me few months ago on the basis that she can't be living in the house with different believe .
Also I have a cousin who is an Islamic fanatic who as some believe s about xtian, I usually argue with him by telling him those things he believea are not right about xtianity . I have practiced both but I chose to be a Muslim not cos I think xtianity is bad but cos I am matured to make a decision and know which is best and I believe the more .
We all have a right to religion and is there in our country constitution and we should not allow religion dictate our lives .
peace Respect brother. |

kay29000: Yeah, you are right but I think it is a good thing. Tomi Adeyemi's book, Children of Blood and Bone is about to be made into a movie...with big budget like Harry Potter or Hunger Games. The reason I am excited about this is, unlike Black Panther that has just made up stuff about fictional Africa, her book uses the Yoruba language, Yoruba traditional gods and all that. How is Zelie Amali and Inan traditional Yoruba African names. I loved that book though. |
TV/Movies › Re: Disney Is Developing of the First African Princess Movie by Outofsync(m): 10:59am On Jul 29, 2018 |
frankmoney: yea seen that video , they used more of motion capture . Disney and Pixar use keyframe based animation for more flexibility and you need a real good professional for that . But to do a standard animated movie , I think the major thing is funds , with the right budget you can hire people Hmm..... And no movie production company has thought it right to sponsor just one animation? kai |

justtoodark: thats not true...
we have some nice movies too...but we concentrate more on drama and interacting...thats not a bad thing actualy.....
we concetrate on the human part than special effects.... The human parts themselves are predictable, the drama is stale and the ending is always, ALWAYS, predictable. Can you mention just one movie based on kingdoms that doesn't end with someone begging for forgiveness, happily ever after and "to God be the glory"..... We don't even have sensible special effects, Special effects in Nollywood makes me cringe. |

frankmoney: it takes a whole lot to produce a 3D movie , you need an army of professionals and I doubt if we have any standard studio in africa I once watched a trailer of a Sango 3D cartoon made by a Nigerian studio, in 2016 I think ... Yet, till now, no movie. And given the global age we're in now, is it so hard to outsource and hire freelancers |
